Review from Trudi C.
My go to for sushi/lunch in Gastown. But be prepared for BIG queues at lunch, it's pretty popular (dammit people I need my sushi - there's nothing worse than the disappointment of arriving only to see a huge queue).
Located underground, there are large booths, small ones, and single seater areas at the back. Portions are large, all tastes decent - not the best in town, but lunchtime isn't a quiet romantic deal, it's time to fill that monster in your belly! I usually order avocado rolls and yam rolls - all large and filling. Side not - have a read of the writing on the chopstick packets and prepare to be amused :D
I would mainly recommend take out from here. Take out is given priority if you're in a rush, and you can give that ever so slight smug smile to all the people queuing as you walk out with a bag full of sushi :P -

I'd really like to give this 2.5 stars instead of 2, because the food isn't bad, but I don't feel like they deserve 3, because there are so many better sushi options in town (even in the same price range) and I wouldn't go out of my way to go back.
- Somewhat rushed service even though they weren't all that busy.
- Chopsticks come in wrappers that say "Everyone who calls on the name of the Load will be saved"... yes, that's "Load". I am not a fan of being preached to while I eat, but at least the typo made it worth a giggle.
- Wouldn't substitute wild salmon in the special instead of farmed salmon, even for extra cost, even though they offer wild salmon as a nigiri item so they obviously have it.
Menu was standard, didn't notice anything particularly creative on there. I had a basic California roll and two pieces of nigiri, and it was all quite decent. The gomae salad was actually fantastic and really surprised me.
Basically, it's about what you'd expect for a small cheap sushi lunch spot in the most touristy part of town. -

Short and sweet.
it's cheap, it's close and it's a lot of food. Would I seek them out if I didn't work close, by, not a chance. But I do work nearby and I eat here every other day.
The sushi is decent and large proportions with astonishingly low prices. I can have lunch for $5 and be full.
I have never eaten in, always taken out (i am not a fan of smelling like grease and fish midway through my work day) so no comment on the service.
Note, I ordered the sashimi and the pieces were so huge it felt like i was holding a fish and gnawing its belly, not cool. Sashimi, if i remember right is a delicacy, delicate is not kebab sized chunks of raw fish... think slivers momo. -

Best chicken teriyaki in town!
Party box C is always filling and delicious.
They're friendly and fun and the prices are totally fair. -

The Salmon Sashimi slices are ridiculously big here. It's fresh, buttery and has good flavour. I love how there is some seaweed salad plopped in the middle - I am a big fan of seaweed salad.
The Chopped Scallop Roll should be called cucumber rolls with copious amounts of chopped scallop on top. I'm normally not a big fan of chopped scallop because of the fishy taste in most restaurants - but here the flavour is good. There is no distinct fishy taste to it and its well tossed in mayo but not overly done.
Up next was the Spicy Tuna Roll - these are massive. I haven't seen bigger spicy tuna rolls anywhere. They also put a healthy portion of tuna and just the right amount of spice that doesn't overwhelm the taste of the roll.

The food is cheap and the portions are pretty huge. That alone gets people into Japanese restaurants. The problem is that the food is mediocre, and at worst, it's inedible.
My prawn tempura was atrocious - thick, chewy, oily, and possibly day-old. The prawn didn't taste like prawn. It was pseudo-prawn, and it tasted stale. I ate one piece, gagged into my napkin, and didn't touch the rest.
The rolls are passable. They're big and heavy on the rice. If you're hungry and looking for cheap filler, order a roll or two.
I've been told the teriyaki is good, so maybe try that. Otherwise, this restaurant is just a "meh." -

Went here on a lunch date with a girlfriend of mine. I got here a little before noon, and it got super busy afterwards. My first time here, and I read a few reviews, but overall, I had no expectations.
The place is actually a lot bigger than it seemed from the outside. Service was pretty standard.
I'm a fan of donburi, so I got the chirarshi don. Big proportions and the sashimi was pretty good. Although the octopus was a little chewy for my liking.
The one thing I totally loved was the tea. I don't know why it tasted different, but I drank about 6 cups of it. -

I haven't been here in quite some time, but the times I do remember, it was consistently large portions, decent food, at great prices.
... so I decided to take my friend here for dinner since she always walks by here on her way to work, but has never actually eaten here.... let me tell you she's a sushi fan :)
At around 5:30, the place was already starting to fill up, and we were sat in this little "hidden booth" up a half flight of stairs I never knew was there. Cute and private :)
She ordered the kapa maki, veggie and avacado roll, which came out on a large wooden platter and looked like a massive delicious meal.
I looked at special box A and it seemed to meet my needs - 2 pieces of salmon and tuna sashimi each, one piece of salmon and tuna sushi, 3 piece cali roll, salad, rice, fruit, and miso soup.... DONE... at what was even more shocking -the price tag at $6.95, no I am not joking.
I'm never sure if I'm going to be full after the specific number of pieces I eat, but believe me.. I was stuffed. I never touched the rice - it looked perfectly molded to the point that it was fake. But I didn't need anymore rice anyway.
The sashimi was okay - it wasn't bad, but it wasn't Toshi's... I had one piece of melting tuna, the other was O-K. The salmon was average but the California roll was largely filled with imitation crab, which I love. The salad portion was generous and the dressing was tasty.
To end off, I had a good dose of vitamin C with 2 slices of orange.
Good conversation, good food, and good night!Listed in: Let's go to Gastown Instead..., Extra Wasabi Please

Review from Chaicharn S.
After spending the day trotting around Vancouver, my wife & I were trying to find a good, cheap Asian restaurant. As it was getting late, we happened along this place.
We were seated in a location was a bit awkward by western standards - on the lower level, where the entrance conjoins with the mall hallway. But, in actuality, the seating arrangement reminded us very much of typical Asian malls & food courts. It didn't bother us since we were also quite close to the kitchen area & could see all dishes being prepared and brought out.
After feasting our eyes on the food coming out of the kitchen, we wound up ordering two items: Sushi platter "A" and Takoyaki (fried octopus & squid).
The sushi platter was the least expensive (less than 20CAD) and also listed as the least number of items (44, if I recall correctly). This was one of those cases, where the menu listing was less than accurate - in a great way! There was no way that the price correctly reflected that this was a great deal. The sushi was superb & tasty. There were ample portion that my wife & I had to take a "to-go" box back to Seattle with us.
Next time, we're in Vancouver, we'd be willing to try this place again. -

I am a fan of Momo Sushi.
I have been here many times and I have always had a good experience.
It is a good value option with good service.
I would recomend it for a quick bite to eat if you are in the area or somewhere to catch up with friends as the booths are big and comfortable. -
Review from Evilyn T.
I came here on the weekend with my friend for some late lunch. We were seated promptly and given hot tea (which was great for a cold day) and menus. After looking over the menu, I was a little bummed that they didn't have too many veggie sushi roll combos. They had quite a few veggie options, but not a lot of combos or boxes to save you a couple bucks, luckily it was not too expensive.
I ordered the miso soup, veggie roll, oshinko roll and another roll that I can't remember the name of. It was supposed to be filled with a yam-like vegetable, but when I got it, it looked like sliced and rolled up processed deli meat. It didn't really taste like anything though, so it was okay. My friend got a bento box which looked super yummy, but heavy on the deep fried side. Everything was pretty average, good, but not stellar. The veggie roll was a bit too big. I mean you are supposed to be able to fit a piece of the roll into your mouth in one bite, and this was just not possible, so there was shit falling all over the place.
The grand total was just under $20 after tax not including tip, which is pretty average also. I'd go back if I was in the area, but I'm not going to be sitting up late at night craving anything from their menu. -

The sushi is good. I just wish the rolls were SO FLIPPING HUGE!
I kind of want to fit them in my mouth... just sayin.
I go to momo because its convenient, but if it had more competition in the area. forget about it. -

After taking our engagement photos, my fiance and I needed someplace to eat fast. We were sort of on his lunch break...
We walked in and they seated us at the back of the restaurant where the restaurant ends and becomes a mall hallway. There are lots of booths, but they were all full being lunch hour and all. After being seated, it took a long time for someone to take our order... but it was busy, so it was understandable. I ordered a combo with salad and miso, chicken teriyaki, sunomono, tempura and a california roll. Phewf. That's a lot of food. And me bring the greedy piggy that I am, I also ordered a dynamite combo... with a dynamite and california roll. My fiance got a beef teriyaki don.
I loved my combo. It was plenty! The salad dressing was great... nice and tangy. The sunomono was the right size. Not too much, the noodles were soft and the shrimps were tasty. The rolls were nice, but they kept falling apart. I hate that because then most of the filling ends up in my soy and I have a piece of seaweed with some rice on the way to my mouth spilling soy on my white tank top. I like the way they make teriyaki. They take a piece of chicken and batter it up all crunchy like katsu. It's so good and stays nice and crunchy. I really tried hard to finish all the food, but I am not a warrior like I used to be. I left some soldiers behind.
They were attentive when they had the time. Coke was in a can, so that's a bonus. -
Review from Dave M.
I thought it was "okay" on my first visit 3 weeks ago. This time was well below par. All the rice was hard - whether scooped onto my plate or on my rolls, it was hard. My chopped scallop roll had all the scallop on top rather than inside! How do you even eat that??
The food was quick and they seem to sacrifice quality for speed. My hard rice? I envision pre-made rolls and plates with rice and salad pre-loaded. Chopped scallop roll? I imagine several rolls with some mayo and cucumber inside that they can just throw a topping on top of - such as chopped scallop.
Although it's cheap, I'll be spending that small sum elsewhere from now on. -

Average. Id been craving sushi ever since arriving in Vancouver, and came across Momosushi in Gastown. The reviews were good, so I gave it a try.
While not the worst sushi in the country, and definitely VERY fresh, the maki rolls were waaaaaaaaaay too big. Each one either needed to be shoved unceremoniously into my mouth (which was then covered by my hand as I tried to chew), or it needed to be bitten into 2 or 3 pieces, with a mess of rice and filling falling all over the place.
So, while 3 stars for taste, 2 for overall experience.Listed in: BC 2010

There's not much to say about Momo, its like all the other cheap sushi joints in Vancouver, with a focus on getting in and getting out. The portions are average sized, so don't expect Samurai-sized pieces of sushi. Price is typical, service was fast.
Momo is pretty popular among the downtown lunch crowd so it can be hard to get a seat in the awkward underground half-in-a-mall location. Careful of your elbows, the servers are buzzing around making sure they keep the turnover high. -

Well, I just had my first lunch at Momo and I am very happy indeed. There was so much food there I couldn't get through it all. I had Bento Box A and it had nice light tempura pieces, california roll, chicken teriyaki, salad and sunomomo I think it's called. Anyway all that for less than $10! Everything tasted great which is rare for me since I'm not usually a fan of Japanese food.
Fresh and cheap and fast! You can't ask for more and the staff were really nice. I recommend it highly. -

This is my favourite sushi place in Vancouver, and it is well visited by my coworkers and I on a consistent basis. Considering the quality and portions, this place will impress you. Try the toro, tuna or salmon nigiri and the size of the fish will make you happy. They've also got great dynamite rolls.
Service is fast and efficient, but if you still find yourself in a rush to go, pay directly at the till. Their more than happy to split a bill, and they do it well.
If we are getting take out, we often bring our own containers to cut down on waste, and Momo will fill them to the top. -

I've been here quite a few times and have never been disappointed. The food is good and the prices are cheap.
It gets super busy during meal times so try to plan ahead and either go a little sooner or a little later. -

It's an OK sushi joint in that area but Guu definitely has better food! Also there's a barber shop inside the restaurant, very weird

With all the Sushi options available, I just can't recommend this spot. Yes, it's cheap - but in this case you get what you pay for. The portions are quite large, but the food just isn't that good.

If you find yourself famished in Gastown, then Momo's is a solid choice for all your sushi needs. The food is fresh, well priced and what your would come to expect from a Vancouver sushi restaurant. The creativity is kept to a minimum, so don't go for Tojo's quality feasting, but the norm is here and done to my lofty standards.
Service is quick and polite, I recommend calling before arrival to pre-order for pickup, as the restaurant can get busy. Seating inside is ample, all in all, top notch. -
Review from Brenda R.
My husband and I were looking for a restaurant and stumbled upon this place. It was a quaint little place in Gastown. Some of the sushi that we ordered are the BC roll, unagi, smoked salmon roll, hamachi nigiri, and a spicy tuna roll. The bento boxes for dinner were such a good deal. I got a box with california roll, a tuna and salmon sashimi, rice, an orange, and a salad. They gave us big portion of the rolls that we ordered and it wasn't very pricy compared to the other sushi restaurants here in Vancouver.
The only thing was that there was only 1 server that night (we felt bad for her) but she was good at getting us the things that we asked for. I will definitely go back here when I come back to Vancouver. -

Where do we even begin? My wife and I were in town and were looking for moderately priced sushi for dinner one night. We found Momo on yelp, and despite some of the negative reviews, we threw caution to the wind and decided to give it a shot.
I'll spare you guys the Details (at one point my wife had to ask how many days ago they got the yellowtail...), but I'll tell you one thing: to this day, if someone just mentions the word "Momo", I run straight to the nearest toilet and try my best not to hurl. -

To be quite honest, I didn't really think much of this place and thought it was going to be a 2 star affair. The prices are pretty good and the portions are on par with other places. The sashimi that I had was actually not fishy tasting, but also strangely didn't have much taste at all. Other than that things were pretty standard. Also the place is quite a bit bigger than I thought as well. From the outside it looks like a small bar, but there is actually plenty of room in the back.

I ordered a 'bento-to-go' because I was feeling a wee bit hungover from the long weekend and was craving a combo of teriaki chicken/sushi/tempura/salad. What I received from Momo Sushi was vile and wretched! Since I was famished I ate about half of the disgusting mixture that did not resemble Japanese food in the slightest. Now I know there is cheap sushi and more expensive sushi but the cheap stuff should still be edible right?? Maybe if you sit down in the restaurant and order something other than the bento box you might be ok but I won't be back to find out.

Oh my God, I can't believe Momo has a 3.5/5 rating on Yelp! This is by far and away the worst sushi I have ever eaten. I have probably eaten at 25-30 sushi restaurants, including trashy all-you-cat eat places - and none of them can hold a candle to Momo in terms of poor quality.
I live in Gastown and got take-out once, which was very sub-par. Then a few months later I made the mistake of eating there again, just because it was convenient and I was craving sushi. This experience really put me over the edge, I think we finished about 20% of what was on our plate. The sushi rice was oily, the rolls were huge (a big tip-off for poorly made sushi), the tempura was cold and soggy. -

This place is totally ridiculous.. aside from awful service, the place smelt awful. Like rotting fish... the waitress sat us at a table that was practically outside the restaurant in a pedestrian mall walkway....no sense of any comfort, just a place truly trying to stuff as many people as possible to eat its mediocre fare...Now I realize I was not in a gourmet place and i was still willing to have a few rolls and some miso soup, so I decided to play along...the final straw was seeing some sort of a Christian bible quote on every packaged chopstick...when I went to the bathroom to wash my hands, same thing!!!..some christian bible quote on the wall above the toilet...
That's the last thing I want, is to be bombarded by religion in a sub par sushi restaurant...what a total nightmare...the food, whatever we tried, was also quite awful. Clearly no clue how to make decent simple Japanese food....oh and did i mention, some of the worst and rude service ever experienced. -

I came to this place a long time ago. Nothing really stuck out. The sushi was competent but there are other places in the area you can get sushi just as good for cheaper. This place gets pretty packed during lunch-you may bump elbows with your neighbors.

super cheap, fast and yummy. not a huge selection, basic lunch sushi and bento. they were a little stingy with the tea, but otherwise great!
