I'd walked by MUD a zillion times, and heard great things, but I didn't check them out until recently when I had a groupon.
My experience here was fantastic. From the moment I walked in the door, every member of the staff was friendly and helpful. My stylist was great and I really liked my cut. They had me in and out pretty quickly too.
After my cut, I was told to come back in 3 weeks for (free) touchups. I didn't end up going because my only problem with the cut was that a few parts were a bit shorter than I would have liked (my fault though, I didn't really mention it).
They also sell a bunch of funky accessories here. I'll be back! -

After trying several other salons I decided to trust the Yelp reviews and give MUD a try. My first haircut was AWFUL! There were sections right beside each other with a two inch difference in length. I looked like the third grade kid that tries to cut their hair with safety scissors at recess. Usually the manfriend can't tell when I get a hair cut but he definitely noticed this one! The styling also left a lot to be desired; when I returned to the office, one of my coworkers told me I was one Adam's Apple away from looking like a Drag Queen but if I added a pearl necklace and pumps I could probably pull off 50's housewife.
While the cut and style may not have been great the service was very friendly. I was helped right away and given a lovely steaming cup of tea. When I called to let the salon know I wasn't happy with my first cut they set me up with Tami, another stylist who fixed it at no extra charge. Tami did a great job with my hair and gave me a cut that has grown out nicely.
The service and 2nd cut somewhat negate the first terrible cut which leaves this hair salon with 3 stars in my books.
*Also worth noting, Dana (the owner) did follow up in response to this post. This salon seems to take customer satisfaction very seriously. Ultimately you'll come out a happy customer if you visit this salon. -

sigh, and then ALL the colour came out of it again about one wash after I wrote the last update.
A month almost to the day since I did my hair, and I'm practically blonde again :(2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

From the moment I stepped into MUD I had the feeling that they were willing to cater to my hair needs from start to finish.
I booked an appointment with Rachelle, who was really nice and went out of her way to understand what I wanted with my hair. Me being simple and not really knowing what I wanted other then to grow it out, clean it up and lighten the layers she was a great at helping me understand what I needed to do to get what I wanted.
Starting with the wash which was very relaxing and the massage was great, I wish it lasted longer :P Then the cut, it was pretty quick and simple since I only wanted a trim but she did a great job and booked me for a complimentary clean up in three weeks because it would help my hair grow faster. That was great of her to do and I am looking forward to my appointment :)
She also put on my file a complimentary session with her showing me how to style my hair.
I think I have found my new hairdresser :) and I'm super happy about it since I've been searching for years for a new one after my old one moved.
The price is reasonable, since I was a first timer I received 10% off but without the 10% the wash, cut and style would have cost $55 which really isn't bad at all.
The only bad thing I have to say is parking is hell! It took my nearly 20 minutes to find a spot(since I had no change on me I couldn't park in a meter parking spot) and I had to walk 4 blocks. They might want to consider telling you where to park when they call the confirm the appointment.
Other than that, The people are great! The Service is awesome! and my cut is perfect :) I can't wait to go back! -

Well after posting my first review...not even 24hours after the owner Dana contacted me and let me know basically that my experience was not what it should of been and offered me a free service....What a nice touch, sure wasn't expecting that. So a few weeks ago I booked with Dana and she took the time to talk to me (like 45minutes) to really understand fully what I was wanting to do and what would best benefit me and be cost effective. She was a fun! She didn't actually end up doing my service a gal that just started Ashley did it, she was great. We chatted the entire time- I colored my hair dark...which I am still not sure I like fully but it is the first time I have gone dark from being a natural blonde. They even tinted my brows!
I will say that even using the dry shampoo they recommended, my hair was still oily in the crown...maybe it is just the way my hair is... :(
Kudos to Dana and Ashley making my experience a fantastic one!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Wonderful salon.
I go to see Tammy (Tammi?) and she is fabulous at what she does, and friendly to boot!
Their price for a mens cut ($35) is on the steep side but includes fun bonuses such as a hot towel/moisturizer process for your face, and a neck and shoulder rub, if you request it.
The space is funky and there's a fun atmosphere here. I have been here multiple times, and will certainly be back. -

Background - I had booked wedding hair & make-up services with a local spa/salon which had been reccomended to me by a friend. This other salon was not returning phone calls to me, when I showed up there they let me know they were in the process of selling the salon & there would be no issues.
I was approached by a former employee there who said she'd be able to accomedate my whole wedding party - however, I had difficulty in reaching her at times as well....this was 2 weeks before my wedding.
So....I showed up at M.U.D. on a Saturday morning with a friend...and explained the situation to Dana...she was supportive, professional & kind - she immediately consulted with her team which included Jess, Jen & Blair & let me know they would make special arrangements to accomedate my wedding party!
I had a great consultation with Blair (who is FABULOUS btw!) - I feel he really listens to what I'm saying. My hair received a much needed TLC from him & we proceeded with a trial for my wedding hair after looking at pictures of the dress, veil & examples of what I liked.
On the wedding day the whole team was there, all of my bridesmaids raved about their stylist. Our make up looked gorgeous in person, and in the pictures! The whole morning (despite how very early it was) was light hearted & fun! What a great start to such a special day! :)
I've been back to Blair since that time & love the job he does each time - he is funny, professional & just an overall sweetheart! He gives the best head & neck massages & I really trust him to give me a stylish cut that suits me (both in appearance & maintanence)... Love M.U.D.! -

After 5 or 6 wonderful years with my last stylist, she's leaving the province. Sad face! So I turned to Yelp to discover my next great hairelationship. All those who reviewed before me were right - MUD, you are awesome!
I was booked with Erynn, who did an amazing job. She took my hair darker, like I asked, added some perfectly matched highlights (it reminds me of a calico cat - in a good way!), and added a very cute cut. I have real side bangs now! Woohoo!
Other pluses: massive windows which means lots of natural lighting; a bar-type seating area with gossip mags and candy bars instead of drinks, for when your colour is setting (so cool!); and friendly service from the whole MUD team.
I'll definitely be back for my hair again soon! -

I love going to new spas! That's why I buy lots of Groupon type coupons (at least that's what I tell my husband hee hee). I went to with coupon in hand for a Mani, pedi and paraffin wax-the latter I have never experienced and had no idea of what it even was. The receptionist was very friendly as was all the staff. After a very short wait, I meet Brenda and was whisked away to sit on the spa throne (mani chair). Brenda did a great job and was very friendly and efficient. The paraffin was treatment was nothing that I could have imagined. You put your hands and feet in a bag of warm wax and let the was cool. Then she slides the bags off and everything feels terrific. Definitely will get that treatment again!

I'm re-reviewing - and I still only have good things to say. A salon is as good as your hairdresser, and Erynn is new at MUD - and, I might add, a brilliant addition to the team.
Her service was friendly and flawless. She listened carefully to what I wanted then went out of her way to make sure I was happy with the results. Her (environmentally friendly foam) foil job was done to perfection and her wash, scalp massage and hair handling was akin to a Gold-Seal chef creating in her own home kitchen.
I knew I was in seasoned, talented hands, and best of all, I trusted Erynn's opinion, so I asked her advice about cut and styling, and she literally taught me step-by-step how to achieve the mop I want in 15 minutes or less. (Now it's my turn!)
Thank you, Erynn, for an amazing job. I will definitely be back for your TLC.Listed in: Born to Shop

Although my initial haircut experience was less than perfect, Dana (the owner) contacted me right away and has been very sympathetic. She is willing to go the extra mile to ensure that every customer is a happy customer.

I used to get my hair cut at M.U.D. and although I do not go there anymore because it is far from where I live, I recommend this place to all the ladies out there.
M.U.D. is owned by Dana who is the force to be reckoned with. She is energetic and full of life. No wonder she has achieved such a success with her business. Dana is a great hairdresser who understands hair, who listens and who assesses the client's needs before reaching for her scissors. I have never had anybody else at M.U.D. cut my hair except Dana, but one of my friends gets her cut and colour from Jen, and raves about this lady. For hair colouring M.U.D. stylists use Wella products. Other services include waxing, mani/pedis and massage.
The interior of M.U.D. studio is definitely modern, sophisticated and toned down. Comfortable chairs, big framed mirrors, good music.
Dana has put a lot of herself into her studio, and it shows - the place is comfortable and chic. -

After looking around on yelp to find a new hair salon... I found M.U.D and thought I would give it a try. I decided only to go for a cut today, as I wasn't 100% sure on the color yet. I was booked in with Holly, when I arrived there was no other customers and seemingly no stylists. But I was greeted very pleasantly, offered a shawl to protect my clothes and a beverage. Holly greeted me shortly after. She took the time to listen to what my hair needs were since this was the first encounter with her. I explained what I wanted and didn't want... then was off for a wash... and I was even offered a neck massage... soooo nice mid-week or really any time! Holly answered all of my questions regarding hair issues with confidence and a lot of detail... and even showed me how to get more volume while blow drying... which other stylists have explained it, but never really showed me how to do it. Holly also explained that she and another stylist are typically the only ones before noon, this explains the empty salon... so if you have time between 10-12 weekdays... you will be able to get extra special attention. I really like the hair cut... my hair is shorter, fresh but still keeps me in my comfort zone. I would definitely recommend M.U.D and Holly if you would like to cheat on your normal stylist or just want a change. There is parking between Steeps and M.U.D on Stony Plain road. As well if you didn't read at the top of this page... if you mention you found M.U.D on yelp you receive 10% off your first visit!
