Mo:le is another of my staple Victoria hotspots. Why go somewhere else when you know Mo:le won't disappoint. Their lunch menu is fantastic with many vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options. They even have raw meals too!

"Jo's Yam wrap" is so yummy with the creaminess of the avocado and sweetness of the yam. The coconut curry is also extremely rich, very delicious with nice bits of cashews, mushrooms and yam. Although it could have more vegetables (I am crazy about greens), it was still very, very good.

Their side salads are also pretty amazing. No, you wont just just iceberg lettuce with flavouress chunks of tomato. You will get a very large salad that is far from bland. It will be loaded with various greens, sprouts, shredded carrot with a nice balsamic dressing on the side.

Love that is it baby friendly. Every time I go, there are always little children around. With high chairs and change tables, it makes it easy for you to bring the little ones.

It's been a few years since I've lived in Victoria, but I always love returning to Mo:le  fro breakfast when I'm in town. I can usually count on good food and service. This wasn't the case on Easter Monday: the food was great, but would have been better if it had arrived earlier! We waited over an hour for food and received spotty service the entire time. We weren't exactly sure who our server was and watched several tables who had arrived before us receive and eat their food before us.

I'll return in the future, but I certainly hope that the service is better next time!

Where meat eaters and vegans agree to disagree

My friend Emi was nervous about taking me to Mo:Lé for the first time, as a) she knew i was a bitch about food and b) she knew vegans annoy me.

However, that being said i met her there for brunch one saturday afternoon - the surroundings reminded me of Caffé Barney in Vancouver - exposed brick walls, art for sale and twenty-something hipsters slinging bennies and mimosas like nobody's business.

The brunch menu is very well thought out, offering bacontastic choices for the meat-eating fat girl folk such as myself, as well as a very comprehensive list of tasty vegan items. tasty vegan items? I KNOW! as if.

I pondered the menu for awhile, honestly unsure what to order - in the end the Huevos Rancheros got me. Admittedly i'm as terrified of ordering Huevos Rancheros in a restaurant as pasta; it's usually fucked up and slopped on a plate with no love.

These Huevos, however, were different. VERY different. beautiful beans, perfectly cooked eggs, salsa, sour cream, sliced avocado, even a grilled apple. but what was the clincher? the in-house made tortillas. i instantly flashed back to my childhood - sitting in the kitchen eating Olivia's huevos. (Olivia is my friend Jeff's mexican mom). Instantly i was in love.

I hate to say it Olivia, but those Huevos at Mo:Lé are even better than yours. not by a lot, but they are. amazing.

I went back to Mo:Lé a second time to try something vegan on the menu - while i enjoy various dead animals as much as the next cold blooded eater, i also enjoy a vegan dish from time to time.

They have a stuffed avocado salad that is literally an entire avocado stuffed with sesame orange mushrooms. a whole avocado. fat girl vegan. PERFECT!

So far Mo:Lé is in my golden books. I did, however, go for dinner and have their cooked tasting menu which needed a bit more thought; an incredibly overcooked bbq brisket all but ruined what was a previously enjoyable meal.

Nontheless i am impressed with Mo:Lé at the end of the day and give it a solid 4 out of 5!

Ahh so this is the Victoria hipster spot. No but really 3.5 stars.

The food was great. Poached eggs, fresh avocado, etc etc. VEGAN, GLUTEN FREE...it's great! Everything was fresh, well presented.

The atmosphere is intimate. I don't mean date-worthy intimate though...I'm talking about the "Let's all cram into a very tiny space and hear every word of the nearby person's opinions and stories." But it was kind of cool that way.

It's super busy and the service was a little inattentive and slow, but I guess that's what happens when a place is extremely popular...

Anyway it's a good find. One of the better food choices in Victoria and not too badly priced. Win.

This is the first breakfast place we checked out when during our stay at Victoria. I liked it but I like Blue Fox Cafe much more. They definitely have many more healthy choices here (organic, free range) but the taste and number of selection is not as good as Blue Fox Cafe. I had a Chinatown Dragon Bun. It was okay...I am not sure if it is worth the price.

Overall, it's a place with many health-concious choices but if you want the best breakfast, go to Blue Fox Cafe.

mo:le is a great little spot. portlandlike in its accessible menu options, casual atmosphere, and use of space. features phillips beers and food for absolutely everyone. the atmosphere is casual and comfortable; the servers are sweet and unpretentious; the clientele is varied. i can't actually think of anything wrong with this place.

one total bonus: i have BRUNCH CHOICES. as a vegan, that is mindblowing - there are two scrambles and a delicious, delicious dulse sandwich. on my last trip to victoria with the special lady we went twice - both days we were in town! that's something!

very kid-friendly, and i've noticed that there are often also seniors there in addition to the young folks. love that.

mo:le doesn't totally blow me away, so it's really a 4 star, but since i can't complain about anything, i'm giving it 5. i have nothing but love for this place. everything about it is really cool. GREAT space too.

Maybe I am just too unhip for a place that's almost tragically hip for Victoria. It was not only mostly young and hipster crowd when I went there, the food was catered to the health/social conscious: organic, free range, vegan.

The price of the food, as a result, was rather steep, considering for the quality. Not that it was not good, just not great and something I'd be dying to come back for.

Disappointingly indistinctive: Long waits, seemingly disorganized service, just okay breakfast.

Having read good things about Mo:Lo, I was quite eager to take my mom out to try it on a Monday morning. Our expectations weren't lofty but we both went away feeling disappointed, wishing we'd just headed to the Blue Fox.

Despite the many things we had to talk about, the waits at each step (to be seated, to order, to receive our food, to pay the bills) were so long. Even though there were empty tables, we waited a good 5min before being invited to sit at one. My water glass sat emptied on a number of occasions. I also noticed the people at the next table waiting patiently for something, asked by one server whether they were being looked after, just to leave. A different server came by a while later and asked again. Not sure if it's a lack of attention or disorganization, but it sure gave me a sense that I wasn't being attended to or valued.

The food was indistinctive as far as breakfasts go. They do a strange thing to their tatters, covering it with some green herb(?), that doesn't enhance it at all. The yam omelette was expectedly satisfying but we were both put off by the cumin taste in the scrambled eggs+tofu. While paying for the meal, I mentioned how much I enjoyed the omelette and the owner (?) gave a short, awkward response that could almost have been interpreted as snide.

I'm not a fan of the bohemian look. Maybe it's because it feels impersonal and uninviting. I perceive the decor as more dingy and lacking TLC, than eccentric and chic. The use of plastic cups and no frills place setting unfortunately doesn't reflect in the prices. Our bill actually came out to be 10% more than at Blue Fox the morning before.

Overall, the seemingly disorganized service gave us an unpleasant impression that wasn't reversed by the indistinctive meal. Although there're other interesting things on the menu to try (which might yield a very different experience), I probably won't opt to try Mo:Lo again.

There are nights I dream about this place, their welcoming atmosphere, the hot coffee, it really does blow me away.

I would say that Mole is my favourite restaurant in Victoria, hands down.  They source their foods with particular attention to sustainable food, which is always a plus.  They are also pretty good with kids, I've been there with babies through to toddlers and they make space, which is nice for somewhere that caters to a "younger" crowd.

I also love that they have a wheat free pancake, although it's not vegan (milk in the batter) they serve it up with fresh seasonal fruit and whip cream (if you want).  Their bennies are fabulous as are their burgers.

You wont spend anything more here than you would anywhere else, meals in the 10-14 range, which is pretty standard for breakfast in Victoria.

My only caution is that if you don't like vegetarians or vegans, don't go.  This ain't no wonderbread shop.

What a find! My husband and I enjoyed breakfast at this great little
place twice during our recent visit to beautiful Victoria. I am so glad
that I did my homework and Yelped restaurants in downtown
    before we arrived.
Both mornings I had the oatmeal and the banana bread...they were
delicious! My hubby had the spelt banana pancakes and he loved
    every bite!
Very friendly, attentive staff. Our last morning we were in a bit of
a hurry to catch the ferry and our server was very quick to take our
order and get our meal to us quickly. Great service!
We will definetly return to this wonderful cafe next time we visit
    Victoria!

This place is a let-down to me, given they have decent reviews on Yelp. I went there, expecting to have some good brunch, but I was wrong.

First, their orange juice was not fresh, and they put ice in it. It's a pet peeve of mine having icy orange juice for brunch, it really dilutes the orange flavor.

The scramble eggs were average. I think the pesto potato was a good idea, but it was so greasy that it really killed the originality of the pesto potato.

What bothered me the most is that the fruits I ordered turned out to be bad. They were noticeably icy, and the melons had this stale taste that I decided not to touch the rest.

I was totally disappointed at this place provided the poor food quality. I tried other places for brunch in town which were much more satisfying, I would suggest going for other options than this place if you want to have a good brunch.

I had the Curry Tofu Scramble. My boyfriend had the Sausage Omelet. I loved mine. Being healthy we both got ours without potatoes or toast but had fruit instead which they gave us a large assortment of. I expected to be really amazed but it was... lacking.. it was the better breakfast of the two we had in town. I would probably recommend it to people but point them in a few menu directions. Also, the place is small so going as a party of 2 is definitely ideal, though it still takes quite awhile to get your food.

A decent, thoughftul menu that never really fulfills my expectations. Some of the worst breakfast service I've ever experienced. Have taken one bite of a bad meal, had the plate cleared, then charged the full price without a single inquiry into how my food was. Needless to say, I usually leave feeling hungry and disappointed.

To update my previous review: I've been to Mo:Le a number of times for breakfast now, and I have to change them from a four- to a five-star. The service has been great: quick to refill coffee and friendly without smothering (my favorite). And the food is fabulous! The biscuits they use in the benny are to die for, but my go-to breakfast is the yam omelette. Yams, onions, peppers, and just the right amount of goat cheese. Everything is fresh and a great value. I've witnessed the staff interact with regular customers and each other like family. I love you, Mo:le!

We tried to eat at Mo:Le a few times on our holiday, but there was either a wait, or they were closed, so we'd move on as we brought a list of restaurants to try in Victoria. As luck would have it, the day we left, Mo:Le opened early which gave us time to eat and make the first ferry.

I must say we saved the best for last; good atmosphere, friendly employees, hip music, interesting art on historic brick walls (we even got to meet the showing artist), but what you really want to know: Mo:Le serves great food! They use fresh local ingredients and it's a chef/owner operation so you know there's love involved.

I had the Huevos Rancheros vegan style: scrambled tofu and organic spicy red beans set atop two house made corn tortillas, fresh lime, avocado, and cilantro served with house made salsa and roasted apple. The presentation was flawless and the meal so yummy I didn't leave a speck! There were many other vegan options on the menu which is always a treat (for me) to see. Along with our meal, we were offered bottomless fresh brewed coffee, and when we wanted to get a cup to go, our server said, "I'd be happy to take your money, but the coffee shop next door has the best coffee in town." Quite nice of him, and he was right. That review to follow.

I'm not sure what the spelling of the restaurant name means or stands for, but in their logo is a hummingbird, and I do know that hummingbirds stand for "Joy." I felt complete joy with my experience at Mo:Le. In my opinion, Mo:Le is a "Not to Miss" if you find yourself in Victoria B.C.

When one goes on one's first international journey, one finds that they refer oneself as "one" a lot.  One also doesn't know what to expect when they go out for their first truly international breakfast (as IHOP doesn't count).

    All I can say is...

    Holy pesto hash browns, Breakfastman!

Although I was in the mood for pancakes, because the pancakes here had bananas in them, I had to pass (weird banana allergy- no jokes from the peanut gallery).

Thankfully, this allergy led me to what quite possibly be the best hash browns I have ever experienced, courtesy of the Mo:Lé Benny.  While the Benny was nothing to sneeze at, those hash browns were the second coming.  No wonder it's a favorite breakfast spot.

Great service, good latte, amazing food.  What a way to begin my Canadian visit.

So delicious! We were referred to this gem by strangers also on their way to visit Victoria. The food was great, the menu interesting and appetizing, the service friendly, I could go on! I really enjoyed the quirky and bright atmosphere, too.
As it was a busy morning, we had to wait for a table, so we wandered into the coffee shop next door. When our table came up, we just brought our ceramic mugs over; they share!
Also, this is the restaurant that turned my boyfriend into a risotto fiend.

I am going to have to knock Mo:le down one star. We came here yesterday after arriving in Victoria. I had the spelt pancakes (with banana embedded into it) and some cranberry juice.

The cranberry juice had a lot of sugar in it but I have come to expect that with cranberry juice you get at restaurants.

The pancakes themselves were fresh and tasted good. The mixture of fruit was so-so though. Clearly some of that fruit was not in season.

Overall I enjoyed the food but can't say I loved it. I will definitely be back here on my next trip though. Maybe next time I will try the curry tofu scramble that my vegetarian friend raves about.

Alright, when you see "Ostrich Omelet" on the menu, how can you keep from ordering it. Delicious? YES. with wild mushrooms and asparagus, mmmm. My partner had Eggs Benedict with fresh, local Morels. Both served with home fries, tossed with basil pesto (not garlicky pesto)A perfect brunch.

I stumbled across Mole because it just happened to be next to the best coffee in Victoria. (Habit). The vibe of that area just said "this is where you get some serious food" the vibe was right. Do not hesitate to go here. You'll have to wait a bit for a table, so what! it weeds out the lame element.

I'm between 3.5 and 4 stars for Mo:le. Its an uber chill space, w a great vibe and lots of visual appeal but could be AMAZING if a few things were tweaked. So, whilst I enjoyed the experience, the niggly things, if repeat offenders, would turn me off this as a regular brunch place.

Sure, there's a wait in line and hey! we certainly used that time to devour smoothies and juices @ Bliss and coffees @ Habit and indulge our hungover retail therapy in Fan Tan Alley. But once we've waited, and we're seated: I want service!

And it was slow. Slow to get refills on our bar drinks and slow to get our meals. Which I could deal with if the finale was worth the languishing wait. It kindda was but our meals were cool. Not cold but def not as hot as I want my food to be if I've been waiting and waiting and waiting.

So maybe I'd go back but prob not on the next Island visit as there seem to be plenty of places in Vic that offer a similar experience and i'm more likely to check those out first before returning for 2nds here.

Came here with a friend who's a Victoria local and I'm disappointed at what's supposed to be one of the best brunch places there, especially after a 1.5 hr wait!

The menu is very Victoria-ish but with Vancouver prices (about 15 a person pre tax).  Went with the Mo-Le Benny which sounded better than it was.  My pesto potatoes were underdone and the eggs were overcooked.  Food took forever.  Service is average.  Like the cool decor with art for sale on the walls.

    I've definitely had better!

The drooping stars are for being a smidge pricey and for trying to spoil an otherwise really fantastic benny by throwing it on a flippin' buttermilk biscuit. Blech. If my memory serves me correctly they didn't always do this biscuit business, but my god I wish they'd change it. Their bennies could be 5 whole stars themselves if they were slapped on an English muffin or even a bagel.

Otherwise Mole offers an interesting take on breakfast and I love their pesto hashbrowns. It's obvious they are trying to achieve something by the thought that's put into the menu. Plenty of fresh, flavourful and interesting ingredients to be found.

    But that bloody biscuit.....

Perhaps the best brunch in Victoria.  Delicious tofu scrambles.  Love the eggs benny.  Many dishes come with pesto potatoes, which are so tasty and a great twist on the humble homefry.  We also ordered a large pot of tea, which was LARGE and easily enough for four people.

This is a great place to bring vegetarian or vegan visitors as there are lots of options for them (and a good awareness of dietary restrictions).

There is usually a wait, but I find that part of the charm of brunch :)  And you can wait in the cafe next door (Habit) and they will come find you when your table is ready.  So the wait is rather pleasant, in fact!

Owww.. well, I hate to go against the general consensus since it seems to be so popular.  But there are a lot of places to catch a meal in Victoria ... and doing what they do.
I came here for breakfast with some friends, some from Vic and some visiting from Vancouver.  There was a long wait, which I expected for a Saturday morning, so we headed next door to grab a fruit shake and they would come grab us.

We did finally get a table in Mole and still ended up waiting quite a bit to order and get food.  The food is alright, but nothing special.  Nobody was impressed with anything, considering the prices.  The service was below average to normal. She was just so busy.  Not my idea of how to spend a Saturday morning.

I love Mole. I've been there four times or so now, and have never had a bad experience. Two reasons it's a four star and not a five: 1) it's on the higher end of price for its genre; and 2) the service, when it's busy, can be very slow. My companions and I have had to ask "do you know when our food might be out?" more than once.

That said, the food is worth the wait. It's a cool little spot with plenty of great art to look at, really high ceilings, comfortable seating and friendly staff. The menu has tons of vegetarian selections, and some vegan, I believe, or at least easily adaptable. The ingredients are top quality, with plenty of local and organic items on the menu. And the skill-level of the cooking is really noticeable. The kind of thing where you really notice the flavours when you're eating, and how one thing complements another perfectly. Art! I had the huevos rancheros last time, and my eggs, poached medium (which most restaurants take as "please bring my golf balls") were absolutely perfect. They do good coffee drinks, too. A great choice for a weekend brunch if you're not in a hurry, and not dead broke.

Love this place.  The hubs and I discovered this early one morning after we got let off the cruise ship way too early.  The entire area this place was in (Downtown/Chinatown) didn't open till about 9:30am on average.  While wandering through the neighborhood, we saw folks waiting outside this place to open around 7:30a.. we weren't sure what Mo:Le was.  But I loved their art deco decor outside with the hummingbird.  Mental check to remember..

After wandering the area, we decided to hang a U-turn and go back for some eating.. like my favorite saying to signal to the husband to save me... ME SO HUNGRRRYYYY....

We both shared the Mushroom & Back Bacon Scramble.... and a 'The Works" side... SO FAB.   The scramble was done very nicely.. and we love the pesto hash browns.  They are not "hash" by the way.. think giant honking hunks of potatoe scrambled to delicious scrumptousness with pesto and spice.. YUM!  Came with sourdough toast.. The Works was a side of maple sausage, bacon and a thyme roasted tomatoe.  Portions were HUGE (thus the sharing).

    LURVE!

Perfect way to spend a quiet Friday morning in Victoria BC.  I totally recommend this place.. it's out of the way and totally quaint.

I was so close to giving this place 4 stars, until they ran out of avocado and put mushrooms on my boyfriend's benny instead.  The avocado is what makes the benny!!  The biscuit is delicious, the eggs cooked perfectly, and the roasted tomato is a wonderful compliment, however, the avocado is what truly brings it all together.  But in Mole's defense, I guess we did come 15 minutes before closing (they close at 3pm).

I got the BBLT, which wasn't what I was expecting.  I guess I didn't realize that bacon isn't really bacon here: it's ham.  But my body is probably thanking me now for unwittingly choosing a healthy option.  Although everything here seems like a pretty healthy option.  They use a lot of really good ingredients.  There was brie and aioli sauce in my sandwich, wedged between two pieces of toasted sour dough-like wheat bread.  The pesto potatoes, although pretty salty, were very tasty.

We also went with a person who ordered the chicken taco something or another, I don't remember.  But he did say it was good.  And he ordered a half-portion, and it was still pretty big.

Street parking is a little hard to find around this area, but overall, this place is worth visiting for breakfast/lunch/brunch if you're in victoria anytime soon.  The service is fast, the portions are perfect, and restaurant is really very cute (artwork on display, not too brightly lit).  I would definitely come here again, and bring my vegan/vegetarian/locavorian friends.

Great innovative take on breakfast. Really enjoyed the unique food. The smoked tuna Benny was amazing and their chili sauce on the side was the perfect touch.

Not sure if they take reservations but we had to wait 30 minutes to get a table around noon on a Saturday. Luckily they take your cell number and call you when a spot is available.

Huge line-up for this place for breakfast. I waited over 30 minutes to go in...Once I was seated, service was fast and friendly. Food was good, good sized portion, but I was a bit miffed about the deep-fried tortilla for the huveous rancheros though, other than that a-ok. Juice was not fresh which I kinda expected for a place like this and the price-point.

We were in Victoria for the weekend, and luckily stumbled upon Mole when we were looking for a place to have breakfast.  We went on the weekend and both ordered the basic breakfast.  For 8 dollars, u got toast, bacon, free range eggs cooked how you like and pesto potatoes.  Personally i thought it was on the expensive side just for breakfast, but they seem to cost more on the west coast, ie Vancouver, Washington, and California.  My potatoes weren't quite hot enough, and there was way to much  pesto.  However this is a fav spot among locals and i really loved the vibe of the restaurant.

This restaurant is located on the outskirts of Chinatown and has a grungey-feel to it with brick walls and electic art. We went for breakfast and got the Chinatown Dragon Bun and the Mo's Biscuit. We should've known that Chinese food and American breakfast don't mix - I think they put black bean sauce or siracha in with the scramble and so it made it overly salty. The Mo's biscuit was pretty standard fare, nothing too special - the menu says it's on a buttermilk biscuit but to me it tasted like French bread. Maybe the Canadian's definition of buttermilk biscuit is different?? They do have pesto hash browns which were unique and quite tasty though!

This place was unreal. The coffee and breakfast was out of this world. The customer base looks like 20-40 somethings that are backpacking the world.

Props on being open on New Year's Day! Pesto hashbrowns....mmmmm, pesto hashbrowns. This place gets an A for service, everyone was attentive, did not feel the lack of coffee or water refill nor checking in to see how everything was. After reading the reviews, I was hesitant because of the concern about price but when you have a great product and great service, they earned their money. Had the creamy sausage omlette and 5 hours later and walking for at least 2 miles, I still feel tummy happy.
So I will be back to try their other concoctions.

Not as good as I'd hoped. Based off my experience, Mo:Le did not live up to the hype. I had hoped for one of the best bennies I've ever had and instead they delivered an above average, but not great benny. It was a very busy time of day on a hot weekend, but there were still some fundamental flaws with my meal. The pesto potatoes were under seasoned and required more salt to have full flavour (I'm not a salt fiend, but it was necessary). My two poached eggs were different, one was cooked perfectly medium and the other was poached hard. Surprisingly, the (roasted?) tomato that was served between the eggs was actually the highlight of the plate. All in all it was fairly good, but not worth the wait in the heat or the high price really. (my guest who ordered the same Mo:Le benny felt the same, except both her eggs came out poached hard when they should have been medium)

If you have an abundance of time for breakfast this is your place. The food is fresh and the potatoes are very good. Never had pesto home fries before. Everything is "very" laid back.

I have spent many a pleasant morning/afternoon brunching here and have to say I never leave disappointed. The clientele I can only describe as a cross-section of Victoria, I think I've seen every Victorian I know here on at least one occasion. The menu is just big enough to satisfy discerning palettes and yet not overwhelming.  I love their potatoes and am happy to say they make a mean soy latte too. They are not open for dinner.
