Since 1956, Mitchell Animal Hospital has been servicing the Kitchener Waterloo community. Offering services such as medical care, vaccinations, laser surgery, dental care, nutritional counselling, ultrasonography, endoscopy, radiology and now canine physical rehabilitation for patients with musculoskeletal injuries, arthritis, neurological problems and post surgical patients.
History
Established in 1956
Originally located on Highland road near Westmount Ave, the clinic was first operated by Dr. Mitchell. Over the years the clinic has grown and moved to its current location near the intersection of Westmount Ave and Gage Ave where it has operated since 1989.
Meet the Business Owner: Gerald G.
Since the age of 5 or 6, Gerald had always wanted to be a veterinarian. In 1986, he entered the University of Guelph to pursue this carreer path. In 1991, he completed his Bachelor of Science in zoology and in 1995 he completed his degree in veterinary medicine. After graduation, he took a job at Mitchell Animal Hospital. Shortly thereafter he was offered part ownership in the practice and has remained there until this day. In 2012 Gerald became full owner of the practice when his parther of 13 years, Dr. Rachel Dawson retired. Gerald's areas of interest include surgery, endoscopy and recently he has been certified as a canine physical rehabilitation therapist.
Gerald's interests outside of veterinary medicine include his saltwater aquarium and snowboarding. He is actually a certified level one snowboard instructor so if you happen to catch him on the slopes, don't be afraid to ask him for some pointers.
