Seriously... you cant fault an authentic dim sum restaurant for not speaking English !?!
Mirama has been the go to place in Edmonton for many years...the main chef has changed over the years...some favour too much MSG... like the guy now...but it still has the best dim sum hands down !
Yes, the carts might get empty...but only as it is so authentic that many locals run to the carts as they do overseas... to pick the best first
but no worries...you can walk into Mirama and order what you want and it will arrive
So much more fun to wait for the carts but regardless, you wont leave hungry unless you choose to
why rush when in such an authentic place?
No chicken wings here ... no greasy dishes... really good dim sum
my favs...not in order
curried squid
tofu stuffed w shrimp
steamed shrimp rice rolls
fried shrimp cakes (sublime)
hairy shrimp balls (ok... get past the english name lol sweet tender shrimp encased in shredded won ton and fried)
pork & prawn stuffed sweet peppers or eggplant
steamed shrimp dumplings
the bbq chicken feet are so good in that gelatenous way
the best shao mai in Edmonton and FYI it is the same filling in thier won ton and stuffed veg .. the wor won ton is so very good with these dumplings
ok...the list could go on and on...but that is because this place has been a staple for over 10 years
I have tried almost all dim sum plaes in Edm and this is the first one I take guests to or go to for a true fix of great food
pass the fried stuff and wait or ASK for what you want
they will help you out
enjoy :) -

Now, admittedly I've only been to Mirama once, and that was for Dim Sum... so this review is pretty much just about that.
Also, it was my first ever Dim Sum experience at the time. So my review may be tinted with rose-colored glasses, and a lack of wider Dim Sum experience.
Still, the food was good! The variety was excellent, the servers were around frequently with the food carts or fresh tea, and the price was very reasonable. At least, for the number of people at our table... we were seating about 8.
One slight point - language barrier. We were lucky to have someone with us who spoke Cantonese, but if he weren't there it might have been a little tricky to communicate. Still, the waitstaff was patient when he wasn't at the table, and we didn't have too much trouble finding out what was being offered.
Mirama is a nice restaurant, and sizable. The main dining room area is enormous and the tables are quite large, so they can accommodate big groups. That said, when we went the place was packed - wall to wall. So expect a wait unless you show up early.
Overall - a fine Dim Summing, and one I wouldn't necessarily pass up in the future.
Also, is "Dim Summing" a thing, or did I just make that up?Listed in: Dim Sum

This place is my grandma's number one choice to go for dim sum/ lunch/ dinner you name it, she loves it. My family has been going to Mirama for ages. Nothing here is phenomenal mind you, but if you're looking for a little above average food for a low price you've come to the right place. Another great thing is the weddings they have hosted here have been awesome ! Their authentic Chinese meals are actually pretty good for the price ! Unfortunately the language barrier here is a bit hard to get by if you don't know exactly what you want. Regardless, this place is awesome just make sure you bring someone that knows at least a little bit of Chinese !

We have been here a couple of times for Dim sum. The Dim Sum is OK when and if you can get it. The place is exceptionally large for dining and many Chinese customers. Unfortunately I found that the carts are usually empty by the time they get to your table for the better items. Not many of the Chinese waitresses speak English here so the service is poor and they seem to avoid contact with English speaking customers. We left both times disappointed because of not getting some items we wished to try. Will not go here again.

Average Cantonese style dim sum. This was one of my regular stops when I lived here and we all came back for Father's Day this weekend. I'm spoiled now that I live in Vancouver since it's hard to find better Chinese food in Canada, but this one is A-OK.
I love that they still use the little carts! Definitely brings back good memories of hoping the things you're eyeing a few tables away are still around when the car gets to you :)
Service is decent for a Chinese restaurant but the decor is getting a bit tired and run down. Still very popular though - it's a huge restaurant and it was packed. Great selection of items and prices are reasonable - about $65 to feed a group of 7. The food quality could be improved (har gow skin a little thick, sticky rice a bit bland) but it's still a decent dim stop stop in Edmonton. -

My friends and I usually go to Mirama when we're craving dim sum, not because it's the best, but rather because it's reasonably priced and isn't too far for any of us. It's located on the top floor of a Chinese shopping centre, and it's hard to miss as it's got the big yellow and red signage. The restaurant itself is pretty big, and it's always busy when we go.
Like I said, the food isn't fabulous, but it's not bad. I would say average -- not too greasy, not too pricey. Service is pretty efficient and quick for a restaurant this size. The last time I was here, there was a big banner across their special events stage that said Welcome, Ed Stalmach. I guess Mr. Stalmach dined here once upon a time. I don't know why, but I thought that was funny. I'll probably be back here again, although if I had my choice, I would go somewhere else like Century Palace. -

Just moved to Edmonton and had my first Dim Sum this morning. Did some research on area restaurants and was not disappointed at all with the Mirama. The service was great and enjoyed the food very much. Very busy with many chinese/asian diners, always a good sign in my opinion. Very reasonably priced, we will be dining their again for sure.

This is a huge restaurant, it might sit 300 to 400 people. That's the first thing I noticed about Mirama. It's the biggest restaurant I've ever seen. Mirama is famous for their dim sum. It's good, inexpensive food. And it's not American Chinese, it's the real deal. I didn't eat some stuff, like the chicken feet, but I particularly remember the rice balls with a pork stew inside, that were delicious. I also had an amazing Chinese soup, although I don't know exactly what it was. One other thing that stood out for me here is that the service is very non-American, in that their mannerisms and social customs are efficient but lack the niceties - yes please, no thank-you, polite friendliness, etc - I was dining with a Chinese family and when the dim sum ladies came around with their carts, if my eating companions wanted some they waved her over, not even acknowledging her, and if they didn't want what was in her cart, they sent her way with a wave of their hand. I felt kind of embarrassed, but she didn't seem to consider anything out of normal. You can rent this place apparently for weddings, which is probably why it's so big. The day I was there, on a normal Saturday, they were at about 60% capacity. They do some serious business.

We have eaten here many times over the years. Mirama is not in the main Chinatown area - but in the East Jasper Ave Chinatown area. Dim Sum items can be hit or miss here but the price point is good. Many Chinese eat here because of the price point, style of dim sum and it is large and accommodating. There are many better Dim Sum places but all more money. We prefer Century Restaurant Dim Sum but today were are budget minded. Here is what we are eating this Saturday at 11:45 (in the pictures). Spring Rolls: but these contain no vegetables and really ground mushy pork only. The best thing about them as they are hot and deep fired. Shrimp Steamed Dumplings: These were very good, pieces of shrimp, chives, and assorted mystery items. Sticky Rice: Good but have had better at other places. Deep Fried Squid: very good, considering the size and thickness, they could have cut these into thinner prices. Crab Balls: deep fried with coconut, OK but nothing special. There was a small crab claw in each one, from a small snow crab and contained no meat. Total meal for 5 items with tip and tax $22.76. Normally we have eaten 2-3 more items, however we had early dinner plans so stopped at 5 items. We would rate this place: Quality of Dim Sum: 5/10, Variety of Dim Sum: 7/10, Atmosphere: 5/10, Cleanliness: 5/10 (chipped plates all over our table and serving dishes) Service: 7/10 (for its trolley servers etc.) Parking: 4/10. Hit and miss. If you are new to dim sum or looking for a good dim sum: try Century downtown Chinatown, Jumbo in the Westend or Golden Rice Bowl on the Southside - all better in every category.
