This is one of my favorite sushi places around. The dragon roll is superb. All of the fish is very fresh-tasting. The fish and chips, which only shares a name with its British counterpart, is my favorite appetizer to order here. Miraku serves really great edamame falafel with wasabi sour cream, it's definitely a must-have.

A little on the pricey side, but definitely worth it.

Awesome lunch specials here!  Miraku hooks you up with lots of tasty fish in all your rolls and fresh slices of sashimi for a very decent lunch price.  Miraku is beautiful inside, has a huge full bar and a very friendly/attentive staff, would be GREAT for a big birthday dinner.  They have a great happy hour.  We were very impressed with everything Miraku.  Wish this restaurant was closer to 'home."

    Try the:

    Lunch sashimi
spicy yellowtail, blackened tuna and dynamite rolls!

Dined here today at around 6PM. We were the first few guests at the restaurant. The waiter was nice, she made some suggestions which I appreciated very much but she seemed tired, did not smile at all so that made me uncomfortable for some moments.

The food here was ok. I enjoyed the Italia Roll as well as their Tataki Quartet (they don't really have this on the menu so I asked for the tasting plate so I can try all four Tatakis that they have, costs about $22 for 12 pieces of Tataki). They were pretty good. The other rolls like King Crab (which looked and tasted like normal crab stick to me), Shrimp Tempura were ok, I've had better. Salmon Teriyaki had a great flavor to it. Yaki Udon was good but a little oily. The sushi and sashimi selection was ok, not the best that I've eaten.

Their beverages... I have no idea how they came up with the ice green tea and matcha-something. They tasted no where near Japanese cuisine nor green tea. They tasted like super-sour-lemon drink to me, which I did not enjoyed.

Finally made it out here after wanting to go for months, and a failed attempt 2 weeks ago getting a flat tire on the Throgs Neck Bridge.  Well worth the wait and the drive over.  We had a great meal and a great time.  The staff was super friendly and very attentive.

First, there is a 20% discount if you check in with your Yelp app.  However, it's only good Mon-Thurs.  So if you want to use it, go then.

This is the type of restaurant where the best strategy is probably just to order as many of the small plates as you can eat...there is so much stuff to chose from on the menu, take advantage of the variety.  We started with the edamame and yakitori.  Both were good, nothing super special, but good.  Next up was the "Fish and Chips" and that was awesome.  Very fresh spicy fish on cool little wasabi chip things.  Super tasty.  And it was way more food than I expected too.  After that I went with a special they had, grilled yellowtail neck.  I would have liked a little more flavor from the grilling, but the meat was absolutely delicious.  Lots of little pockets of fatty meat next to the bone...yum..the variety of textures of meat was enjoyable.  Also another dish that was way more food than I expected.

As for sushi we ordered a few different rolls.  The alaska roll, which was really good, the salmon was SUPER fresh tasting.  The evergreen roll, which was a really cool vegetarian style roll and according to my wife, was "like eating a garden."  And the shrimp tempura roll, which I didn't get to try because my wife devoured it before I even noticed...hey it's her favorite and apparently it was awesome.

Will definitely try to come back here...there is a ton of stuff on the menu that I still want to try!

I'm glad there is a place like this on the North Shore!

For whatever reason you get a chance to read all my reviews you'll see that I once reviewed a place called Aji 53.  That place is in Suffolk and on the South shore.  I loved that place, but after my friend dragged me here on Monday evening, I love Miraku even more.

I'll start with the most important part of any review; the FOOD!  We started with a few appetizers.  The first app was a dish called the fish and chips.  I was told I must try this dish.  In my mind I'm thinking I don't want british fried food at a trendy looking Japanese restaurant.  Guess what?  The fish and chips are actually just a play on words.  It's actually 4 wasabi chips with sushi tuna, yellowtail, crab and I forget the last one.  I followed that up with the yellow tail scallion roll, spicy tuny, and "the rising sun roll."  The fish was fresh, the food was fantastic.

Now on top of that, the service was great.  They knew what they were talking about when we asked about dishes.  Everything was prompt and clean.

Because I gave it 5 stars I normally say if you're in the area give this place a shot, but even if you're not in the area give this place a shot you won't regret it.

Ok... So this was my second trip to Miraku and I'm a bit peeved...

The first time I was here everything seemed pretty good, the food was decent, the prices were right and the service was pleasant.  Outside of the fact that parking was a pain in the ass (no lot), all was pretty cool.

This time I decided to bring my wife in with me as I thought the place had some potential.  Now, not so much...  The tuna in my spicy tuna was rancid, totally f*cking rancid...  I was scared of this the first time I was there as the place was a ghost town, with dust balls and everything but it was still decent. I'm wondering if slow business is taking a toll on quality.

Anyway, the manager was very nice and apologized profusely and removed it from the bill which is why I'm not giving them one star. Stinky fish though, let's just say it was an evening killer, totally inexcusable...(discount or no discount).

Really fantastic food and service. A great sit-in japanese option in the Great Neck area -- the atmosphere is so pleasant. Here for a birthday dinner, and everyone shared a bit of their portions with each other.

Appetizers/small plates: I tasted a bit of a guest's tuna dish, which was drenched in a soy sauce marinade. It was so hearty, the texture was perfect -- almost meaty. The edamame falafels are very interesting. Perfect little spheres, puffs of wasabi sour cream on top. The bacon and asparagus, my dish (of COURSE), was all right.

Rolls: The DRAGON ROLL is one of the best I've had. The textures are perfect, they put a lot of thought into its composition and construction, and even the lone asparagus added inside was a nice touch. Wasnt in a fish-craving mood so I ordered the EVERGREEN roll, which was vegetable heavy and wrapped in napa cabbage. Very clean flavor, and it was exactly what I wanted. And raving reviews for the ITALIA ROLL. It's a rectangular presentation layered with mozzarella cheese, and it surprised me with its subtle but powerful introduction. Melted on the tongue. Heavy, but excellent.

Prices were super reasonable for the amount of food you get. Ambience, service, creativity, options, and satisfaction = winz.

Good food is one thing, but good food and excellent service? Sign me up!

I trekked out here from Brooklyn to celebrate a friend's birthday. When I arrived, the guest of honor wasn't there yet, so a couple of us got a drink to get started.

I've never had a bartender break down what was being used in a cocktail before. I felt like I was on a cooking show. I got a dark & stormy, which had dark rum and ginger beer. The bartender puts the bottle of ginger beer on the counter and says "this is the ginger beer we'll be using", and before adding any rum, he also placed that on the bar and spoke about its origin. It was surprising but kind of cool. The drink was good, by the way.

Once everyone arrived, we went to eat, and it was then that the atmosphere of the place really sunk in. Simple color scheme, soothing music. The menu was nice--I ended up getting a couple chicken skewers, some shumai, and a couple rolls. I also took a bite of my friend's edamame falafel, and immediately wished I ordered that instead. That's a must, honestly.

The shumai was really good and fresh. The skewers were tasty, and most importantly, not dry. I don't remember the specifics of my roll, but there was lobster involved, and it was really delicious.

Remember that excellent service? Remember that birthday I mentioned? Well, we needed a cake. How awesome was it that the people here offered to go and get a cake? All we had to do was stall the meal and a little while later, out came a cake. I think that's a huge "above and beyond" gesture.

I'm pretty much never in Great Neck, but if you are, make sure you stop by this place. I'm actually kinda jealous that it's 2 hours away.

A great addition to Great Neck that just opened end of August.

Miraku, a modern Japanese Izakaya, is very impressive with great, knowledgeable staff who attend to all your needs and very friendly.  The atmosphere is very modern and chic, great seating including tatami-esque booths which you must remove your shoes before seating.

Was greeted by Jing, one of the owners, who came over to our table and engaged in conversation.  She told us all about their operations and what sets them apart.  They are constantly getting different high-end exotic fish from Japan and offer new eclectic options to their dishes.  Also they own a wholesaling operation which they distribute fish to other restaurants on the island.

The menu is great, with a wide variety of homemade apps, specialty rolls, and extensive sake and sochu menu.

Definitely worth the trip to indulge in fine Japanese dining.

I'm a chef / food critic, and have been so for about 12 years.  I was NOT there to write on this place, just out with some friends before going to the city.  I'm not going to crush them on things that they can't control (parking, companies near by).

    The Good
    - It is a very nice environment inside
    - The place is clean
    - It is on the N. Shore? (Best sushi S. Shore Suffolk in NY)
    - Prices, not cheap but decent compared to the area

    The Bad
-You have got to get a handle on your front of house
-Whoever your chef is needs to be checking the freshness of that fish
(wasn't rancid, but it def. wasn't caught that morning)
-You have a Japanese name, people expect you to make authentic Japanese dishes. (The worst Miso Soup I have ever had, clearly a packet  or "just add water").

Tip: Just because you comp me doesn't mean I won't tell my friends and come back
For only being around for 6 mos not bad but there is still a lot that can be done.  .

Tonight was my fourth visit to Miraku and once again I had an incredible meal. I have no photos to show for it, despite trying to take a few. The restaurant is nicely and simply decorated, but pretty dimly lit. Now, I don't mean to imply it's dingy or that they're trying to hide anything, but for such an open space there is not much more you can do aside from dimming the lights to try and give it a sense of intimacy, especially if you are seated in a booth. Which is precisely where we were. Oh yeah, and the music adds to the cozy ambiance. Tonight we heard some tracks from Gotan Project, The Roots, Portishead, and s couple of other similar bands which are all, in my humble opinion, great dining music and I'm so glad they think so, too. The staff is very knowledgeable and very friendly. They know when to come ask if you need anything else and when to leave you to enjoy your meal. Our first visit was during their opening week when my husband and I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and the manager, both of whom were eager to suggest various specialities and to hear our reviews of them (which were stellar, and it wasn't only the copious amounts of sake we consumed talking. I promise!!)

So, so far we have a hip, modern, wide open, yet intimate space with a great staff. Let's talk food, shall we?

They bill themselves as a modern izakaya, although it is more of a restaurant than a bar with food. However it seems that at least lately the bar is well occupied, while the tables are less so. But any steady patronage is good news to me, because I can't bear to lose another good restaurant in this area. And this one is good. Very good. The quality of the fish is outstanding, which is surprisingly a rare find in Great Neck, and the modern menu items are both tasty and inventive. The edamame falafel are to die for, darling, and do not fear the menu items that boast untraditional toppings such as the melted mozzarella on the Italia roll. I know I know, I shuddered, too, at the thought, but we took the manager's recommendation to try it and it really is quite delicious! They make sure they have a fairly steady supply of toro (and more than one kind! Be still my beating heart!). Their miso is fresh and excellent, and the ginger has a nice bite to it, which is how you can tell it hasn't been sitting around too long. Only once have I been even slightly disappointed, and I'm sad to say that was tonight. We ordered the tofu & salmon sliders for an appetizer and the top of the buns were a bit too hard for our tastes. It's not really a big complaint, but it stuck out because everything I've ever had there has always been perfection. I'm not sure if that was just tonight or if that's just how their buns are, but there it is.

Back to the izakaya thing - they know their drinks here and they are rightfully proud of them. They have a nice list of cocktails and mocktails which would compliment any meal or whatever game you might be watching on the mercifully quiet bar TV. (Lists which I plan to make my way down, in case you were wondering.) They have a very nicely curated selection of sakes, including more than one nigori, and a couple of aged dessert sakes which are akin to a tokaji or sherry. And as for dessert itself... well wait a second. We're always too full to have dessert! I guess we're just going to have to go back again, maybe skip an app in favor of a dessert next time, just so I can update my review. Oh darn!

First, this location had gone through many Japanese restaurants, BUT this one is by far the BEST. As a local, I wish that it will stay here forever.

If you are here, I recommend you to sit at the bar. You can order entree while sitting at the bar too. The bartender is really nice and friendly!! They always greet you with genuine smile.

In regards to the food, I would have to say they present the food in a very modernized elegant way. I personally recommend the "Fish and Chip" and the peppers from the appetizer menu. The tataki quartet is also very excellent as it is 4 kinds of fish prepared in 4 different ways!!!

I also had the Black Cod the other day from the dinner menu. The Cod was so tender and it melts in the mouth!!

Lastly, this place has a great ambiance, and the dining environment is excellent! A+++!!!

My wife and I *love* Japanese food but after the closing of one of our favorite places in Great Neck, we were having a hard time finding a replacement.

It appears we may have found our place.

Miraku has everything we look for in a sushi restaurant. Good classic dishes, inventive and tasty signature rolls, and an excellent selection of sake. (Including a few Nigori sakes, which is my favorite)

The staff was very pleasant. The owner Jing was quite friendly and appreciative of our visit. The manager Rich was also very informative & welcoming. I had not even tried a dessert sake before this visit! All of his suggestions were delicious and we can't wait to come back and try some more.

We enjoyed the atmosphere and especially the music selection! Any place that has Gotan Project / Beats Antique / Clint Mansell in their rotation is the place for us!

We will absolutely be recommending this place to anyone who is looking for good sushi, not just on Long Island, but in general. We wish them nothing but the best of luck!!

You know how when you hear from a family member or friend about a restaurant they've been raving about? How they can't stop talking about it or eating there with their friends? I was introduced to Miraku by my mom who heard about it from one her friends who is close to the owner, so I went with my girlfriend. It's a "modern Japanese Izakaya" restaurant. I looked up 'izakaya' on Wikipedia; it's a casual drinking (and eating) place frequented after work by salarymen in Japan. The Wiki article implies it's more like a pub than a bar.

In any case, I get the atmosphere of the Great Neck-based izakaya - there's a warm ambience, along with the in-character tatami booths, sushi bar, and an alcohol bar. On the other hand, the restaurant does feel very spacious. Authentic Japanese izakayas look to be smaller than what this restaurant has going for it. I must say that this brings up an ambience shortcoming. I went on a day when there was a test-run week going on, and there were 9 or 10 people. When business is that slow, it does make the restaurant feel barren.

In any case, I had the pleasure of a great server and, since it was test-run week, the attention of the manager/owner. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the offerings, while the owner was warm and generous. Both were quick to mention the offerings that week and everything that would be available to order, including complimentary drinks, that evening. I had a "typical of Japanese restaurants" sushi and sashimi platter for 2. I did notice that there was some atypical Japanese fare in the warm food section of the menu; however, I went for the sushi.

One of the interesting complimentary samplers we were given was a modern Japanese izakaya interpretation of 'fish and chips', which apparently is some thing spicy, something tempura'd, and something that looks like spicy tuna. I wasn't sure what made it spiced but it was something different. Another fun thing in Miraku is the mixed drinks, which I didn't have any alcohol added since I was driving. The bartender expertly and deliberately mixed a non-alcoholic drink for me and an alcoholic drink for my girlfriend, taking a while before it was ready.

Overall, I must say that the restaurant, Miraku, will be an interesting experiment and experience. Just so you know, there are numerous typical and humdrum Japanese restaurants/sushi bars along Middle Neck Road and around Great Neck. This is the first time I've tried something a little different from the rest, but we will see how modern Japanese izakaya stacks up in the minds of Great Neckers and other Japanese food fans.

Billed as a 'modern izakaya', the menu here is broader and the space more upscale which makes it more of a full-on restaurant.

That said, the room is modern and attractive and the food was good.  I was impressed with the quality of the fish, which is often a problem on Long Island.   Excellent uni and scallop as well as toro.  The now ubiquitous miso black cod was a crowd pleaser as well.  The skewered and grilled items were solid but unremarkable.

Service was very slow due to the fact there only the hostess in the front of the house who had to great customers, take orders, and fix drinks at the bar.  Perhaps it was a bad night - I would visit the place again.

Miraku is the place for you If your looking for fresh, Grade A sushi in Great Neck. The owners told me that they get the best cuts and grades of fish since they work closely with their purveyors, and you can definitely taste the quality. They also have fun and modern dishes like edamame falafels and great signature rolls. Ask to sit at their Izakaya seats, it's intimate and it makes you feel warm inside. Bought a groupon for this spot and was pleasantly surprised. The hostess greeted us right away which was very nice. We were presented the drink menu, regular menu, and prix fix groupon menu. Drinks were awesome!! I had the P^2 and my boyfriend had the lightness lychee (or something like that) and they were both amazing. For appetizers we shared the House-made "Crystal" Shrimp Shumai & the Toro Kakuni- braised tuna belly, sweet soy. Both were delicious! For entrees we had the Vegetable Yaki Udon with beef and the Golden Pompano with baby bok choy, roasted cherry tomatoes, sweet garlic sauce. The Udon noodles were delicious and the sauce was just right. The pompano was fried and the sweet garlic sauce complimented it very nicely. Tomatoes were a little bland...but who cares - the rest was amazing. For dessert we shared the poached pear and red bean ice cream - a must try for all dessert fans. The red bean ice cream was incredible and the poached pear was poached to perfection.

Our server, Angie, was very knowledgable and a genuine pleasure to talk to. It seemed as if she, and the rest of the staff, really cared about our meal experience, as they came over a few times - but not too many- to check on us while dining.
Overall service was excellent - the only little. complaint was that the bartender collected our bill and although we payed in cash, we were not offered the change...It didn't matter because all change was going to the tip, but it was still awkward.

Will definitely be returning for the Mon-Thurs happy hour (2 for 1 drinks and appetizers). Hopefully they will extend the time from 530-7 to 530-9 like they said.

We have found our new favorite Japanese restaurant, even though we live in Queens the trip is well worth it and we avoid the headaches that we deal with sometimes driving to the city.

    Enjoy! =]

Best sushi in Great Neck, hands down.  Try it once, you will be hooked. Real sushi, great fresh fish. The owners father is a seafood distributor to sushi restaurants, so you know you get fresh and delicious fish. We even had fresh scallop sushi opened out of the shell in front of us. The baby yellowtail was just awesome. Also had the "edamame falafel" and the shumai, both were fresh and really yummy. I hope people go because it would be a shame if we lost such a great place.....

Love this place.  We had a birthday dinner there where they were nice enough to prepare an omakase menu for us.  They chose the dishes and came out with some really wonderful things we would have never considered. The blackened Tuna tataki, and the albacore was great.  Also corn & shisho tempura was fantastic.  My wife loved this cold spicy noodle soup.  The sushi rolls were also quite good.  Very fresh, and very well made.  There is also a "fish and chip" appetizer you must have.  It's like a spicy tuna or crab on top of lightly fried and battered nori.  Great!

The tskune was just so so.  It's rare to find good chicken meatballs, but I have noticed that they are still tinkering with the recipe.  Maybe I'll try them next time I go.

The owner Jing was so nice, as was the manager Rich.  He was very knowledgeable about sake and all the food they were serving.  All of the staff was very cool.

    Fresh sushi, creative dishes!

I went there the week after it opened, went again for the "grand opening event" (the place was a bit chaotic then, as these events tend to be, but great food nonetheless), and haven't gone to another sushi place since!

My two favorites are the "Fish and Chips" (I was a bit skeptical of the name, but it was love at first bite) and the Bollywood roll. I don't know who came up with these dishes, but they've earned my respect. Delicious.

This place is great. Attentive staff, beautifully decorated interior and delicious food. Came here on a Wednesday with a few friends after procrastinating a while of visiting this newly opened restaurant. A wide selection of sakes and cocktails, creative appetizers, and perhaps the freshest slices of protein I have ever devoured. Just went for the first time.  We've been meaning to try this new place for awhile and are glad we did.  First, I have to say the service was excellent.  The food was interesting and tasty.  Will definitely go back again.. I would've given it 5 stars, except for the overpriced, small serving of ice cream.

Terrific, trendy place. Great, innovative sushi and tapas. Service attentive. Great wine list and by the glass. Interesting beers on tap. Why did we wait so long to go here? My new favorite great neck restaurant. Don't miss this place.
