Review from Gina I.
I was so excited when my roommate told me there was a vietnamese cafe open around the corner of our place.
The decor is pretty cool and it's very clean. It seems like a small family run business, which is even better. I hope people of Kitsilano will embrace Mintleaf!
We went down & ordered a bunch of salad rolls & spring rolls. They were absolutely delish.. The grilled chicken salad roll was yum. I was delighted that they used peanut sauce and not hoisin for dipping as a lot of other vietnamese places do.
Next time I'll try the soup and a baguette, but so far so good. -

This little gem of a Vietnamese joint is wonderfully convenient if you're in the Kits area around Macdonald. If you need a quick yet cheap bite, the Vietnamese subs are delicious for a great value (~$3.75), and the pho will satisfy your cravings.
There's usually only one person there who has to fulfill the duties of cook, cashier, and waiter/waitress, so descending on the Mintleaf Cafe in a huge group would be very hard to orchestrate. But for one or two, this place is great. -
Review from Thu N.
I was in need of a bowl of pho and was happy to discover that there is a Vietnamese place in Kits. So it's run by a Vietnamese lady (I was scared if it was authentic or not) but the poor lady was doing everything - taking orders, cooking, serving, cash register, etc. It was adequate for me, since I was the only customer in there for 30 min but I can see it not being sustainable when this place is full.
$7.50 for a bowl of beef pho is a bit pricey and there's no options of small or large. One thing that bugged me since I was the only person there - was that after my order, I heard the microwave. I'm not a fan of hearing my food being warmed by a microwave...and it got me wondering what part of my food was being heated up by radiation :) Anyway the bowl came out and the broth was actually really good! I'd never seen beef balls pre-cut for me...and the meats aren't as fresh as they could be but hey, it was a pretty decent bowl of pho 5 min walk away from me.
Other patrons came in half way thru my meal and everyone ordered the sandwiches ($3.75-$4.50) and they looked nice and fresh. So I think I'll come back next time for the sandwiches if I don't feel like trekking over to Kingsway!
I also had the chicken salad roll - and so happy to hear some sauteeing going on in the kitchen instead of a microwave :) It was freshly rolled and delicious! I rather have fish sauce as dip instead of the peanut sauce so that didn't impress me much.
So the good news is it's authentic Vietnamese food in the heart of Kits...I think I'll stick with a 3 star rating for now with a lot of potential and hope for my next visit to try the sandwiches!
