Disclaimer: I'm sort of biased, because kitchen supply stores are sort of my kryptonite.
Anytime I find myself in the area, I'm inevitably drawn to Ming Wo "just to look around". I can browse the aisles for ages without being bored, squealing with delight at the various cookie cutters and cake molds, and only leave reluctantly once I notice that the people I'm with are eying the exit longingly.
Also, I'm admittedly a bargain hunter, and so I've found the prices more than fair. They often have a lot of items on sale, and I've never purchased anything here which I felt I could find at a significant discount elsewhere. Very, very comprehensive selection of kitchen tools and gadgets, and a very knowledgeable staff. I also like how the staff doesn't lurk about constantly asking if you need help with anything. -

Do you need pots? Do you need pans? Do you need cookbooks or baking goods, or even a pair of gloves designed for cleaning and removing potato skins? Well, Ming Wo Cookware has just about anything and everything you could want. They have a very friendly staff what is quite knowledgeable as well. Every time I have been in Ming Wo, I have been there for at least an hour as my very foodie partner browses through each and every item they have in the store. The prices are reasonable for good quality cookware. So, take a little time out of your busy life and check out Ming Wo Cookware.
And as always, Have Fun!!! -

So you're a foodie, chef wannabe or you just love food and you're obsessed with kitchenware. You love window shopping in kitchenware stores like William-Sonoma, Sur La Table and the likes but felt you can never afford anything in the shop? I know that's how I felt all the time.
At Ming Wo, the prices are a lot more approachable to many people. No more fancy spatula or porcelain that costs two arms and two legs. Well, not entirely true. Ming Wo not only carries high end pots and pans like Staub and Le Creuset but many items are great bargains. Plenty of cookbooks are on sale for less than $15, Asian table wares for a couple bucks or so, carbon steel pans for less $10, and larger cake tins (12" or larger) that I could hardly find from the bigger stores for less than $20.
It is certainly not the cheapest place to get cookware because plenty of Chinese shops down on Pender sell cheaper plates, bowls, pans etc. However, I felt that the quality at Ming Wo is much better and it warrants a slightly higher price. You get what you paid for, right? The shop is not big but it's very well stocked and you can get almost anything you need for your kitchen and home. Vancouver is definitely lucky to have a local and historic institution like Ming Wo. -

I could spend hours and hours here, and if money was no object....
As it happens we do have some things we come here to get and always use the visit as a chance to wander and delight and enjoy exploring their kitchen wares.
Our fish dishes? Available here.

I am not a chef...nor a baker...but I do love to cook, bake...and especially eat!!
This was recommended by my sister who is pretty darn knowledgeable when it comes to cookware.
Because of my inexperience, I have no idea if the prices were too high or not but I was impressed with the selection of tools you can purchase for your kitchen.
Be careful while walking down the aisles packed full of pots, knives, bowls, cutlery, pans, utensils, glasses.....and a bunch of things I have never heard of or seen before.....because you will be tempted to buy!
Easily can spend an hour in here browsing around...
found a beautiful set of Riedel tumbler wine glasses at a great price--again, I have no idea if I could've found it cheaper elsewhere.Listed in: House stuff, retail stores

I like this location, but I like the one in the south Granville area much better. Something about customer service I guess.... I always feel a but claustrophobic in this location... They do get sales though!! I like sales.
Who doesn't?! Non stick frying pan, 15 bucks, SOLD! Egg timer 2 bucks, SOLD! Cast Iron WOK, 25 bucks, SOLD!
Come here... but try the Granville location too. they're nice.
2707 Granville St. There's one on 2170 West 4th Avenue too but I haven't been. -

To be truthful (and follow YELP guidelines), I know someone from the family that owns Ming Wo, and another person who works at one of the locations. I don't ask for special treatment, and nobody else who works in the stores knows me other than for the reason that I shop there a lot, even before plans for culinary school popped into my head.
The Chinatown location is more fun to me than the other locations, because other ones have everything neatly stacked and filed away, but this place has stuff spilling out of the wazoo!
Prices are marked up slightly higher than Gourmet Warehouse, but if you show them proof that you're a cook or culinary student, they give you an industry discount on regular-priced merchandise, which often ends up quite close to or sometimes less than GW, which I only go to for something specific if it can't be found here.
Ming Wo has a good selection of knives, which are often on sale, and cook books, in addition to everything that a home cook would ever need and more.
Today I brought my brother (my best friend!), who is going to culinary school in April, and while we were able to find a lot of things that were needed on our own, they took good care of him.
Hooray! He'll be back. And so will I!Listed in: Surefires, House of Flying Daggers

I love this place. I think I have a crush on the owner-lady. So bossy, so opinionated, so knowledgeable -- she makes me just smile and nod in total awe and submission.
Same for all the staff. No question goes unanswered, and every gadget has an explanation. From egg poachers to deviled egg plates (with indentations for perfect presentation), and from mandolins to pastry cutters, if it ain't here, you don't need it.
Go Ming Wo. ;-) -

I love this place. I've probably been there thirty times now and I'm just now writing a review. Shame on me!
This is a great place to find a bargain. They often put many things on sale and I pretty much always find something new that I want. I especially like their Asian cookware selections - bamboo steamers, spiders, woks, Chinese soup bowls and spoons, and the like.
The staff is nice and they get out of your way when you need them to. They don't follow you around the store telling you how to use a peeler. They just greet you and give you space.
This particular Ming Wo location is the original. It's a pretty unassuming storefront. I was shocked when I first stepped inside. It's a treasure trove.
Go here for inexpensive plates and bowls and glasses, cheap cooking tools and great sales. But also go for luxuries like Le Creuset, All Clad, and Wusthof.
Definitely worth taking a look at. -

This place was great about 25 years ago - now it's ho-hum, high-priced and the merchandise is average at best.
Sorry the younger shoppers will never know the great deals and the quality wares we could buy back then.
I do better at Hudson's Bay sales than shopping at Ming Wo. -

I had no idea that Ming Wo originated in China Town..did you?? I didn't even know this location existed until recently and I was so delighted to find it...
I have always liked Ming Wo..I am a bit of a kitchen and home gadget whore so cook work stores like this are a haven for me...like a candy store...but instead of buying candy I'm buying the tools to make my own candy..which I have done at Ming Wo...seriously...
My intention was just to look around and see the space as I am very familiar with the lines they carry and products they sell...ANYTHING you could need for your kitchen..in a nut shell...Le Creuset, Henckels, Philips, Cuisinart...you get the idea...
They still had a bit of a Boxing Week sales going and had some Riedel wines glasses on sale..a tube of 6 stemless glasses for $24.99..well..how convenient..I just broke like 3 of my stemless wine glasses over the holidays..I guess I was meant to go in and discover such a deal! The lady at the cash was pleasant..glasses were placed in the bag with care...and I was ready to go home and bust out my new glasses and great bottle of wine! -

I went to Ming Wo this afternoon to get an Allclad SS Frying Pan ( 10"); its regular price was $135, marked down to $101, a deal, I thought. UNTIL.... I checked the Gourmet Warehouse website ( a store I sometimes slag as being over-priced ). Well, GW had the same pan, and its regular price was $103

Everything you could want for the kitchen in one shop! I was impressed with this shop. The selection is great and the pricing isn't bad either. Ming Wo you have a new customer for life!

Great place, I find their prices reasonable. Yes, I know GW has some great prices, but Ming Wo has a better selection. The staff are great, they know what they're talking about.

For me, Ming Wo is the creme de la creme of kitchen supply stores...and I only just learned about it from my new neighborhood friend, Erin Templeton!
Ming Wo occupies four other stores in and around Vancouver, but the East Pender street location is the original location and has been there since 1917. For over 80 years, Canadian owned Ming Wo has been providing locals and otherwise with quality, variety and affordability in kitchen products.
I often get overwhelmed in kitchen stores as I have mentioned before and although Ming Wo is no exception, I have no trouble getting lost in the wonder that is Ming Wo. My immediate reaction was to head to the cookbook section where I eyed Donna Hay books, at the bargain price of $11.99 (compare that to $40.00)! While resisting the urge to purchase as many of these as I could carry (I'll be back for more!), I perused the shop and was astounded to see the selection and variety of every kind of amateur and professional cookware and bake ware items, from pots and pans and woks, to Breville blenders and juicers (on sale!), Le Creuset cookware (also on sale!), every kind of kitchen gadget, glass, cup, martini sets, fondue pots, baking apparatuses including a magnitude of cookie cutters. Ming Wo carries products from brand names such as Cuisinart, Panasonic, the aforementioned Breville and Le Creuset, Bodum, Donvier, Calaphon, Riedel, All-Clad, Waring Pro, Victorinox, Thermos, Philips, Cuisipro and Cole & Mason, amongst others.
If you can't find what you want here, then it might not exist, and if you are still not convinced, ask the knowledgeable and friendly staff, there isn't much they don't know about kitchen ware! -

Cookware selection here is really good but you got to know your prices some items I see are twice as much elsewhere. Really busy place. I will be back.

Ming Wo is the Sur La Tab of the Asian world. If you needed something for an Asian kitchen, they've got it, plus all the regular stuff SLT and WS carry.

It's hard for me to tell if Ming Wo in Chinatown is better or as good as Ming Wo on Granville Street. There is still an awesome display of cookware in the Chinatown store, but maybe it's a bit bigger. I ended up buying a cordless whistling kettle as well as a glass gravy boat. The prices were great, as always at Ming Wo, and the service was friendly, helpful, and efficient. I love Ming Wo - no matter which location I go to!
