This is a beautiful, and beautifully calm, studio in the centre of downtown in whose classes (Pilates, yoga, and Budokon) the focus lies truly on the quality of the movement. Stepping into this space you feel as though you can let go of your day for an hour or so, taking the time to strengthen and stretch your body under the guidance of friendly, knowledgeable, and encouraging staff. Classes are small (12 people max for group mat classes, 4 for group reformer classes), the prices right, and it helps to have a dedicated chiropractor and acupuncturist on the premises too. Definitely worth a visit.

So, what exactly is Iyengar Yoga?
I had no idea either when I went to an introductory class at this studio.

On the outskirts of Yorkville, this studio is hidden on a quiet street nestled between upscale hair salons.

This studio is small (a yoga studio and pilates studio), but clean and bright.  There is a nice seating area if you are waiting for your class to start... with magazines too!  They have a water dispenser and cubbies and hangers for your stuff... but no change room.

Not only are you improving those yoga skills, what about those changing outfits in a bathroom skills?

The intro to Iyengar yoga class was full of newbies as expected.  Anastassia was a really great instructor.  She took a lot of time explaining the equipment and helping everyone set up.  She made corrections and if a student wasn't able to complete a pose, she assisted.

The class size was small, maybe 9 students.  There was lots of room in the studio.  Everyone required a space by the wall for some of the poses.

There are classical poses that all work on alignment using props.
The first move required lying with a yoga block under your back and under your head.  It was pretty uncomfortable.

60 minutes later we had gone through all the poses.  It wasn't the most relaxing class, but I felt extra bendy after.

Perfect class for beginners and if props float your boat, this is the class for you!
