Solid deli (and a little more) sandwich menu. We tried "The Luna" - a BBQ brisket sandwich (brisket, cheddar, coleslaw, russian dressing) on a toasted hoagie and it was huge, delicious, and so close to perfect.
This was an afternoon shared "snack" and while debating whether to eat there or take the food to go, we noticed that they charge extra $1.50 for split plates (in addition to the obvious tip for eating in) so keep that in mind.
We'll definitely be back to try again. -

I want to start this review with a qualification. It takes a lot for me to write a bad review. I have no desire to mess with someone's ability to make a living by spouting off on yelp. That being said, here goes...
Since I live only 4 blocks from this place and love East Coast deli food, I keep wanting Miller's to deliver and they keep letting me down. Tonight was my 3rd bad experience in 4 attempts. What is worse is that it's not really the food that's the problem. While the food isn't great, I'm not sure that I expect great. I just want to go, get my deli fix, and be on my way. AND THEY WON'T LET ME! The service is so atrocious, and not in an "East Coast" sort of way. It's atrocious in the "owner does not have a clue how to train staff" kind of way. The first time I went in, the owner (it could have been the manager but I think it was the owner) came up and talked to us and he was a great guy. We talked about living in New York, about the food, people, etc. Great experience. Then the next 3 times I came in, the place was manned by staff that couldn't care one bit how well the place is run. Twice I have had a baby with me and informed the staff that I didn't have much time, so could they please tell me how long my order would take. Keep in mind, I was not asking for special service, or to bumped to the front of the queue, I was just asking a question so that I could decide if I would place the order and wait, or maybe find another plan. Both times I was given timeframes that turned out to be so far off the mark that I had to wonder if they truly even heard my question. But what is worse, is the absolute lack of any attempt to fix the situation. The front house staff just sat there talking and doing minimal busy work rather than trying to fix the problem. The other time time we nearly had to stand up and dance on the table to get the waitress to walk away from her very important employee only conversation and refill our coffee.
Bottom line: Food quality doesn't matter if customer experience is this bad. I will not go back again and would never recommend it to anyone. -

Yes, Yes, Yes (kinda like that scene from 'When Harry Met Sally') YEEEESSSSS!!!!!
Grubbin' pastrami, off the chain corned beef benedict (really, off the chain, like whoa, amazing, yumm, yumm, yummness), good chip selection.
Call ahead if you are in a rush, it takes a while. I wish I could get a small green or fruit salad instead of potato salad. Always had a nice staff experience, minus maybe once or twice, and have always been overwhelmed with the awesomeness that is their food!
Highly recommended for breakfast, equally for lunch. Take out lets you eat in the park or at work.... Go, you will be delighted! -

I think this place is over-rated. Lots of butter and grease if you get anything from the grill. Try and customize a breakfast sandwich and it won't happen. You'll get it how you see it on the menu.

I come here for the tongue sandwich, on rye, with mustard and onions, large, to go.
I inhale every succulent morsel of sliced tongue.

Kate (Age 10.5) were hankering for deli since we were supposed to have lunch at Nate 'n Al's in Beverly Hills - and canceled our flight due to thunder and lighting in L.A.
I guess I should have known better than to head for MIller's since the last time the toast on her grilled cheese was burnt and their way of fixing it was to scrape the toast off with a knife. Seriously.
This time place was 3/4 full on a Friday, and once we were escorted to a table we were ignored for about 10 minutes, as we watched various waitstaff busing the tables themselves.
When a young guy with a shock of relatively long black hair came over, I nicely asked if he could break the rule on the menu for my daughter - it said that the "Challah French Toast was unavailable after noon. The first time he said, "No, with explanation." When I said it was for my daughter and could they please make an exception?" He looked at me and said, "I TOLD YOU NO!"
That kind of attitude caused me to look at Kate say "We are out of here." And of course, I told him "My review on Yelp will reflect this."
We went to Max's Opera Cafe where the waiter was polite as could be, did everything he could for us and while I know the food was only okay, at least we had a pleasant experience.
If the waiter in question at Miller's reads this, the one thing I can say is he's lucky I was with my daughter, or I wouldn't have left as politely.
New York Deli staff as supposed to be rude in a Seinfeld sort of way. As for this guy I'd like to pour the ingredients for very-eggy French Toast over his head. -

Pastrami Rueben.
Woah, this was good and huge!
Delicious pastrami with melted cheese, grilled onions and peppers.
My wife and I split the Rueben and decided to split the half when we saw it.
We still have the other half, it will be gone soon.
We ordered a half order of onion rings also.
Also a large portion considering it was a half order.
Delicious perfectly fried.
Tried the egg cream too. Never had one before, so I have nothing to compare it to.
But perhaps it wasn't chocolatey enough?
Millers is now up there in the SF Favorite resto list. -

Sometimes you only need to come to a place once to know that it's the jam. Miller's East Coast Deli is amazing. Scientifically perfect coleslaw, toasted hoagies, special sandy's, and NY hot dogs. If you grew up on the east coast then Miller's is a must.

If I could give you 4.5 stars I would... Wth Yelp!!! lol...
I lived in NY for a couple of years which solidified my love for the Reuben. I've always loved them but when I was there they were always just so omgah good WAY better than anything I've ever had out here in Cali! But then you Miller's, you entered my life...
BEST. REUBEN... actually Rachel... EVER!!!
Omg, I came home with my first sandwich from here and my freakin roommate yapped my ear off and all I kept on thinking was omg my sandwich is going to get cold, it's going to get COLD!! But even in its lukewarm state, it was one of the most amazing sandwiches I've ever had!! The rye was the perfect thickness and the pastrami melted in your mouth, I ate it ALL!! NO SHAME!!
Now why only 4/4.5 stars? I went back and tried the Reuben (corned beef compared to the "Rachel" which is pastrami) and that corned beef was sooo dry! I cried a little bit because I thought, oh no, maybe that amazing sandwich was a one time gig!! But I've had another Rachel since then and I realized that their brand of pastrami is just FAR superior to their corned beef cuz the Rachel the second time was still amaaaazzzzingggg!!!
So boo hoo to the Reuben, you Rachel, are my new best friend! -

I'm totally out of Jewish deli shape. I used to be able to pack it away, but hitting both Wise Sons and Miller's East Coast Deli in one weekend has me feeling the need for detox, and I didn't even eat any schmaltz-laden chopped chicken liver (more's the pity).
Miller's menu is mammoth. Unlike the concise menu at Wise Sons, Miller's is all over the map. Of course, there's corned beef & pastrami. But there's also a full complement of other deli meats and a few pages worth of specialty sandwiches; burgers, dogs & sausages; all sorts of breakfast items; noshes like potato latkes & freshly-baked knishes; hot 'n homey dinner plates like meatloaf, brisket & roasted turkey; and there's even thin-crust pizza, of all things.
One thing that gives Miller's a leg up on being able to garner some NY-style Jewish deli nostalgia points with a guy like me is that they get many of their products (like the pastrami, rye bread...) from a few thousand miles east of SF. They've a bit of east coast flair b/c, well, some of the stuff's from the east coast.
Depending on your point of view, maybe you'll say Miller's is "cheating" by out-sourcing. Or maybe you'll say Miller's is smart for not trying to reinvent the wheel. Either way, Miller's comes closer to those nostalgic taste memories than does Wise Sons. Plus, our choices turned out to have a little more connection to SF; the turkey's roasted in-house and the corned beef is cooked at Roberts Corned Meats over on Bryant Street.
Miller's makes a nice REUBEN ($10.99) with a side of slaw (or potato or mac salad) and a pickle.
http://www.yelp.com/bi... All of the elements were good. Tender, flavorful pile of just-fatty-enough corned beef. Worthy of the price tag. The rye tastes close to the northeast rye I grew up with. The Russian dressing could use a little work, but that's my Dad's fault; he's way demanding about his Russian dressing and it rubbed off on me. Next time? The Rachel (with pastrami).
My wife went for Miller's GRILLED NY SPECIAL SANDWICH ($10.99) with house-roasted turkey, potato salad and a pickle.
http://www.yelp.com/bi... You can pick any one of 5 meats for this sandwich. They mound it up, slap it on rye with Swiss, slaw and Russian dressing and then griddle it. A very good, albeit drippy, sandwich. Think of it as a healthier, but still tasty, alternative to a classic Reuben. The potato salad had that sort of half chunky, half mashed thing happening, and it needed some salt.
The OLD-FASHIONED CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP with MATZO BALL ($3.99/cup, $4.99/bowl) was okay from what I could tell. Really all I could taste was the matzo ball. http://www.yelp.com/bi... If I had known the cup would turn out to be pretty much a moistened matzo ball I would've gotten the bowl instead so that I could really check out the broth. Nice matzo ball, though. Not too light. Not too dense. From what I could tell, the broth was well-seasoned but didn't have much chicken-y depth. For hardcore matzo ball soup fans, note that this one is designated on the menu as "chicken noodle soup with a matzo ball," so you're getting noodles and bits of chicken & veggies, not just a solitary matzo ball in broth.
The only plate that really disappointed us was the WHITEFISH SALAD PLATE ($11.99).
http://www.yelp.com/bi... The accompanying cream cheese, capers, olives, lettuce, tomato, cukes & red onion were fine, and the bagel was better than expected (maybe they are sourced from back east, too) but heading toward stale. The problem was the star of the plate, the whitefish salad. It was like baby food. All I could think about was a friend of ours who, as a child, would only eat tuna salad if her mom chucked it in the blender and hit "puree." I kid you not. Excessive mayo blunted whatever flavor, salt & smoke the fish might have offered. Surprisingly bad.
Our server was knowledgeable, quick, efficient & friendly. Terrific, in other words, which stands in stark contrast to the somewhat rude treatment we received from a runner at Wise Sons two days prior.
It's hard to generalize after only one visit to a place with such a sprawling menu, but I'm enough of a "Save the Deli" kind of guy that I'm willing to give Miller's the benefit of the doubt and go with 4 stars despite that awful whitefish salad. I'm happy to have Miller's in the Bay.
* There's yellow mustard (*shivers*) on the table, but please stick with the deli mustard in the unlabeled squeeze bottle.
* If the dining room line is too long, consider taking out a cold deli sandwich (condiments on the side).
* We lucked out on parking ... this time.
* I hope they aren't spreading themselves too thin ... pizza? Dying to hear about it if you sample it! -

I don't know blintzes, but I know what I like. And I liked those blintzes. Unfortunately, I'm not the one who ordered those blintzes so I didn't get to chow down on them. But I did order a corned beef hash omelet, and on St. Patrick's Day to boot. I was feeling it.
Orderer's remorse aside, the omelet was pretty tasty and came with some rough hash potatoes. There was plenty of meat involved and I tried not to disgrace the plate by keeping a light hand on the ketchup bottle. Had I not sampled the creamy, cheesy blintz I would have left completely happy. But having tasted of that indulgent roll of bouncy deli fame I'm only left wishing I would have ordered them instead. Next time. But that's the point, with a big ol' lunch menu and plenty of breakfast items to choose from you can pack in enough next times to really take the menu for a spin.Listed in: SF March 2012

The best Reuben sandwich ever. Generous warm thin slices of corn beef piled high. Comes on rye, but I requested grilled sourdough bread. Comes dressed with sauerkraut and a special sauce. The sauce reminded me of thousand island dressing. Comes with side of your choice - coleslaw, potato salad, or macaroni. I got the macaroni. Tangy and sweet at the same time.
I was only able to eat half of my sandwich. Took a doggie bag for the other half.
When you first enter, the deli counter is to your right. You can order to go, or walk further back for sit down tables. Once you order, your sandwich comes fairly quickly.
You can order breakfast, hoagie sandwiches, salads, etc., but if it's your first time as it was for me, you must order the Reuben. You won't regret it.
I will definitely come back. -

I'm a native New Yorker (3 years removed), and I've yet to find a place that serves an egg sandwich like Miller's East Coast Deli. It's as chewy as a bagel is going to get in SF, and they even serve Taylor Ham!!!! (east coast peeps know whats up).
The atmosphere is great; bunch of guys behind a long counter cooking up greatness. It feels pretty authentic. Overall, love this place! Though the prices are a bit high. -

The only reason this gets two stars and not one, is for the food. Pretty good! The brisket dinner is amazing.
The waitress however...she is something else. We came in at 1:00 on a Monday. Just two of us. It was packed, so I'm a little understanding. The person that sat us didn't ask us what we wanted to drink. We waited five minutes until a girl (dark hair in a ponytail, I believe her name was Adrian) slammed two cups of water on the table and sped off. She never took out order. We had to wait another ten minutes before we finally flagged her down. All my friend said was, "Excuse me...". She snapped back with, "I'll be right with you...ugh". She finally took our order, after another five minutes. She huffed and puffed at us and walked away. I watched her walk behind the counter, slam our menus down, and proceed to complain about us, cursing and all. "Those f*****g b*****s couldn't wait two f*****g seconds!" Keep in mind we waited almost twenty minutes already. She came up with our food and again, slammed it down. "Enjoy" and speeds off. Needless to say, I'm going to be speaking to a manager, and never coming back. Hire some nicer people, Miller's! You're losing customers left and right! -

Food - average, service - marginal, atmosphere - so-so.
We've been here before as it is near the Studio Gallery where my wife shows her art. The times we went there was not very memorable, but it was a few years ago. At the first time, we ordered sandwiches to go and they were soggy when we got them home. The second time we ate in. I can't remember what we ate, but there is a probably a reason that I hadn't gone back.
Miller's East Coast Deli opened a store in San Rafael and it appears to be the rage. Judging by previous Yelp reviews, it looked favorable. Yesterday afternoon, after dropping off a painting at studio gallery, we decided to venture for lunch. We arrived at 1230 and it was half full. The tables were clean, but a little bunched together.
We ordered a hot pastrami and hot corn beef sandwich ($7.99 each) from our waiter Jacob. It comes with a choice of side dishes and we had one coleslaw and one macaroni salad. It also comes with a half dill pickle. Our sandwiches (at room temperature) came plain with just the meat and the the rye bread. I wonder what the difference was between a cold sandwich and a hot one? There were no special topping provided only the mustard and ketchup on the table. Our silverware consisted of a fork and a thin napkin. We were not provided with a knife to spread our condiments until we got up and asked for one. The knife provided was so blunt, it couldn't really slice the pickle. The pickle was not clean and crisp, but rubbery.
Our waiter never checked on us or refilled our waters. He is probably a good waiter in a place like this, but unlikely to progress to finer restaurants. He also doesn't listen. He brought out two sides of coleslaw instead of macaroni salad. Since the place was filling up, I decided just to eat the coleslaw. Speaking of which, the slaw was mainly the white part of the cabbage and had a rather sweet taste. My wife makes better coleslaw than this.
As we ate our lunch, I observed an older women trying to maneuver through the tables on her way to the restroom. There is probably no need to jam tables together like this as it reduces the dining pleasure of the patrons. Someone sat directly behind me and kept scooting her chair against mine and waving her hair against my back. I guessed it was an overweight woman (20 something) and I was right. The noise level increased considerably where it is difficult to hold a conversation without shouting. This not a place you want to take on a first date or maybe even on a second date.
When we left, the overweight woman gave us a smirk. She reminded me of a person that has an entitlement mentality. But then, there are increasingly more people like that in San Francisco. Would I eat here again? Not likely, I would rather go to a smaller ma and pa deli. So what's the big deal about this place? -

I walk in for lunch on a Tuesday and not too busy at all, a bunch of open tables. I order a pastrami sandwich with side and a drink, $13 is a lot for a sandwich and drink but i think it will be good. The guy at the register asks me if its to go and i tell him I'm just going to sit here, and point to the table, he says OK. this is where the problem comes in.Some man-child/waiter is servicing the tables in this SANDWICH SHOP and starts barking to the cashier in earshot that he let me sit by myself...i get up and tell him i didn't know and he yells at me to JUST SIT DOWN AND EAT YOUR SANDWICH! i asked for a refund and left.

For the ages I've found myself in the neighborhood, I've never been here ... until today. Quick service, despite the mobs. Great sandwiches (did those two words really flow from my fingers??). The only challenge is trying to find something interesting without cheese, which we did in their Ruca and a cheeseless Turkey French Dip.
I can't wait until cheese is again part of my diet, and I can try their Rueben! -

I'm not sure you can go wrong here. Everything is good - from breakfast to lunch and later. The place gets pretty busy during the day, but for the most part, I've had no trouble walking right in and sitting down.
The service is friendly and over all, I can't think of a complaint. The prices are just right as well and the portions are plentiful. Try it out! -

Maybe we caught Miller's on a bad day, but my boyfriend and I were expecting a lot more.
We ordered a large hot pastrami expecting a big meat sandwich like you see here on the pictures. NEGATIVE. Our pastrami sandwich was pretty lousy and had about 1/4 of the meat that you see in the photos.
The cuts of pastrami we were given were also pretty bad. I couldn't even enjoy my sandwich because literally every bite I have to stop to spit out a piece of muscle or something. Even worse, the meat was EXTREMELY fatty. I actually think we had more fat on sandwich than meat - so much so that we literally had to open the sandwich and cut large chunks of fat off just to make it edible. Once we were done there were two huge greasy jiggly piles of fat on my plate - enough to make me gag just thinking about it. Why was this on my sandwich?
New York City is my second home, and I had really hoped that Miller's could be my taste of NYC in SF. Sadly, it looks like that won't be the case. The worse part is that Miller's really has the potential to be very good if they served proper cuts of meat and were consistent with how much meat they put on sandwiches.
Oh well, my search for an East Coast deli in SF continues... -

This place rules. Awesome sandwiches and pizza. Yep, killer pizza too!
Only downside and sorta annoys me is that you can't get chips with a sandwich. Potato salad is the side. What about people who hate potato salad? Why make us pay extra for a bag of chips and then waste the potato salad?
Change this and you get 5 stars.
But either way, this place is pretty rad. -

Friend brought me here the other day for a special lunch. She always talks about how great this place is, so off we went.
First we scored parking right across the street and then realized the meter was broken. In a town where a quarter buys you enough time to fish around for another quarter in your pocket, I'd say that was a double score.
We walked in and were seated in a New York minute.
Waitress comes over and quickly takes our order. She is pleasant, has a nice smile and knows her stuff.
Friend orders a cup of matzo ball soup, cheese blintzes and potato latkes.
I order pastrami on Dutch crunch and some onion rings.
Food arrives in record time, as the line of people keeps growing. Oy vey! I taste everything and it's all delicious.
It's always exciting to dine out and eat well and this place most certainly didn't disappoint.
I'm looking forward to my next visit. -
Review from Paul C.
Miller's is my go-to spot for sandwiches. They have real olives--not the canned ones which is already worth a star. I'm a veggie so I usually get a provolone sandwich with peppercinis, lettuce, olives, tomatoes and avocado on a long roll and it's killer. Only a buck and a half more than Subway and tons tons better.
It also comes with a side but be careful--all their sides have mayo. I'm absolutely not a mayo fan. I usually ask for a second pickle.
Speaking of pickles, usually I'm not a fan of pickles that taste like cucumbers, but I've actually grown a fondness for their pickles.
They also have nice black & white cookies--though I'm pretty sure they don't make them there. -

Ordered The Dallas, sans mushrooms. It's a hot sandwich with roasted eggplant, zucchini and onions with the usual lettuce, tomatoes and a veggie shmear.
The hoagie roll was soft and delicious, the vegetables charming, the shmear.. not very noticeable (or at least it didn't stand out very well).
I felt this sandwich would have been better with meat.
I also felt this sandwich was overpriced @ $8.99. The only reason I can think of being the array of unusual vegetables that can't easily be used for their other entrees.
I didn't eat the pickle because I don't like pickles.
I did eat the potato salad. It was delicious with enough crunch and beautiful red potatoes with skins.
We also ordered a half order of fries which looked almost like shoe-string fries and were more than enough for two people to share.
These sandwiches are huge, the salad (potato, coleslaw or macaroni) make this meal too much for the average person to finish. The fries were a nice touch.
I saved half for dinner :)1 Previous Review: Show all »

A couple of days ago, I moved to San Francisco from Boston. The NFL playoffs were on, and I wasn't in the mood for other options I've had in the week prior- Indian, Chinese, Mexican. I needed some East Coast man food. I needed an East Coast Deli.
I walked over to Miller's, a few blocks down the street from me in Nob Hill. As soon as I walked in, I legit felt as if I was in a New York City deli. Miller's was clean, quick, and the whole staff was very friendly. There is a dine-in section, but I wanted to get in and out so I could get home and catch the rest of the game.
I ordered the Grilled Reuben with sauerkraut subbed out in favor of cole slaw. I've had my fair share of Reubens on the East Coast, but this one, in the middle of San Francisco, may very well be the best I've ever had.
The bread was fresh, the meat piled on with just the right amount of cole slaw and russian dressing. The portions are HUGE- I could only eat half so I wrapped the leftovers up to save it for dinner. It's tough to make a sandwich this big without having it be sloppy, but the presentation was very neat. The sandwich came with three options for sides- more cole slaw, potato salad or macaroni salad. I opted for potato, which was fresh and delicious.
Like I said, the staff was super friendly- "Come again soon, Bill," they said as I left. I definitely will be. -

My bf loves this place, he has always talked about it, and I guess I drank the kool-aid, cause I'm a believer... it's so good! I've been to the sf one and the one in san rafael, both were equally nommy!
good prices, great food, big ass portions, casual set up, the people are always nice, one star off because of the bathroom... if your bathroom isn't clean and well stocked, I judge you. -

East coast delicatessen gem that has somehow made its way over to SF. Not sure how it got here but I am not complaining.
PROS:
- huge menu! tons of sandwich varieties (and you can customize them further to your liking I'm sure), dinners (eg chicken fried steak, thanksgiving meal, hot dogs, pizza, etc) ... if you can't find something you like here, you have a problem.
- reasonably priced
- fast & friendly service...I once came here straight from work & realized when I went to pay that I had left my wallet at my office, and they comped my sandwich!
- accommodating for catering / large takeout orders
- big portions -- almost always it becomes 2 meals worth of food for me
CONS:
- weekend brunch can get a long line sometimes (good hangover fare)
- the food is certainly good, especially for what you pay, but not the best meal I have ever had
- I wish they had other choices for sides (firstworldproblem, I know)
Definitely super casual / unpretentious -- I would not bring a date here if you are looking to impress.Listed in: Polk Street

3.5 Stars overall.
Walked in with an open mind and a hungry stomach, left with mixed feelings. They do some things good, but others could use little improvements to be on par.
Buffalo Chicken Wings (4 stars): Man these are some GOOD wings. It's not your run of the mill vinegar Frank's Red Hot sauce flavor. You can tell they put some thought into the sauce they use. The wings are juicy and not over cooked.
Corn Beef (4 Stars): WOW! Thinly sliced with a clean full flavor taste. Not overly salty. Loved it
Pastrami (3 Stars): I was really looking forward to eating a nice pastrami sandwich from this place, but it was more on the okay side. It was greasy and tasted like that too.
Pickles (4 Stars): This place brines their own pickles, and they are pretty good. They have a light salt flavor, and when you bite into them they leave you feeling refreshed.
I will be back to try other items. They have a HUGE menu. -

I'm excited I live close enough to stop by on a regular basis!
Let me preface this review with the fact that I'm a Bay Area native, so I have no East Coast context at all. I've eaten here twice so far: once for takeout, another with some friends.
My first time, I ordered the chicken noodle soup with matzo ball to-go. It's not traditional matzo ball soup - which is a point of contention among my friends. To be fair, they do list it on the menu as chicken noodle soup WITH matzo balls. If you can get past this caveat I think it's pretty delicious. Also, the 'bowl' option is gigantic.
I also enjoyed dining in-store. Our waitress was very nice, friendly and accommodating. She stopped by our table often to ask us how the food was, refill our waters and provide some extra napkins. I ordered the half-sandwich (hot corned beef on wheat with everything except mayo) and cup of soup option. The 'cup' option is much smaller than the 'bowl' (one matzo ball pretty much fills up the whole The 'cup' is the exception: everything else is huge. The half-sandwich came with a heaping portion of meat.
My hot corned beef sandwich was satisfying. However, I regret not ordering the reuben...or at least asking for mine to be toasted. I will have to come back again and order the reuben.
Only thing is that the back smelled a bit like cigarette smoke for some reason. I'm sensitive to it, but no one else seemed to mind. I'll be back often. -

Since I'm not only a native East Coaster, but an East Coaster Jew as well as a food snob, I feel totally qualified to write this review. Miller's is a go-to place when I am in the area and need something small and quick, but I wouldn't say it's that good. It's certainly adequate for a knish or a potato pancake, or even a certain type of sandwich, but it's no Famous Fourth Street Deli in Philly or even Max's here in SF (which has its own problems). For one thing, the matzo ball soup is so salty it's barely edible. The potato pancakes are almost invariably burned, and the applesauce that is served with them tastes like pure sugar. The pastrami is good, but probably the fattiest and greasiest pastrami that I've had on either coast.
On a positive, most of the staff members are super nice and the prices are decent. But for real good Jewish deli food, there are many better options in SF. -

The manfriend had his usual, the Philly Cheese Steak. Its his usual because it is delicious! I managed to get one bite before he demolished it. As someone who never eats these I found it to be really good. He said he usually orders this from Miller's because it's one of the best he's had.
I had "The Norman", buffalo chicken with buffalo sauce and ranch. Minus the red onions listed on the menu (I'm not an onion fan). This sandwich had really good simple flavor. Loved the spice from the buffalo sauce.
Potato Salad was good. We should have ordered an extra side order on top of the cups that come with our food because we finished those quickly. Also included is the delicious pickles that I think they make fresh there. So good!
We will definitely be coming back, specially since its within walking distance from our casa (: -

I'd never eaten at a Jewish deli before and only started going here cuz it was next to a bar I love and I always liked the food but then one day, I had the Jackson. I can't even describe how amazing it is. And I'm not going to tell you what it is because it sounds like it might be a taste sensation from the twilight zone but it's my favourite sandwich ever and I try to go there once a week to get one. Eating in is a really nice as it's clean, well lit, and the wait staff are friendly. Take out is just as good as I call ahead and pick it up.
I've been told their burgers are killer but I've only had their sandwiches. I can't recommend this place enough. Just writing about it makes me want to order a Jackson, stick it in the fridge, and wait till I'm hungry again. -

Perhaps the most frustrating restaurant in SF. I want so badly for there to be a high quality deli in the city but as other reviewers have noted the service here is the pits. If I get an order to go, something is always missing (I now check the bag before leaving). If I eat there I can't get the attention of the waitstaff. I've never heard a "I'll be with you in a minute" from the cashier when, for example (as happened yesterday) she was trying to tape up a piece of paper that had been ripped into shreds (obviously a higher priority than serving customers). And yet the food can often be sublime - my bagel with lox yesterday was on par with anything I've had in NY (and I've had them all). Also there are limited options without getting on a plane. 3.5/4 stars for food (with high variance), 0 for service, weighted towards the food.

We bought some brisket, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, rye bread, and swiss cheese so that we could make our own variation of a reuben (ok, greatly modified reuben). It was nothing short of amazing (not my variation, necessarily, but the ingredients bought from Miller's). A few days later, I went back just for coleslaw. mashed potatoes, and gravy. And again, a few days later. Finally, we sat down and had a feast of the pastrami philly, reuben, mashed potatoes & gravy (obviously, a must), potato salad, and coleslaw.
Heaven. Heaven in a deli!!! -

This place is pretty good. I used to eat here when I lived nearby and I've gotten burgers for dinner and benedicts for brunch. The best thing about it was that it was 1.5 blocks away. It's a good neighborhood joint and definitely one of the better cheaper places in the area.
I've never had the sandwiches though, and apparently that's what makes this place popular... so if you come here for other things, you'll pretty feel like it's a solid 3.5 star place too.Listed in: Best Burgers
