Miko Sushi is the bomb!! For downtown Vancouver I think the prices are really good, (Everything downtown is pretty expensive.) My wife and I really love this place. It's small and not very fancy at all. We might have passed right by had our hotel not highly recommended the place. Now everytime we are in Vancouver we ALWAYS eat here. One weekend we ate here 3 times!! I haven't found better sushi in North America yet. I would put the quality up with Sushi Ran in Sausalito but for half the price. Almost forgot, the Kobe beef and spicy scallop roll are big favorites for us.
Be careful, there is a place just around the corner named Miku Sushi. Not related at all. We tried Miku Sushi once and I feel we spent way too much for what we got. After over $100 in food and drink we actually ended up walking to Miko Sushi to finish our meal. -

Definition of cool: bald Japanese guy with glasses on his forehead putting out some of the best sushi in VanCity.
This guys dynamite, so cool, while working with absolute precision.
Went in for lunch today on a one day trip to Vancouver and I loved it! Crispy oysters to start, with Bulldog style sauce. Fresh sashimi, ohh so good... Perfectly cooked rice, and couple of cold beers to boot.
Next stop was China Town, where I went to get a hair cut. Word of warning to all that may try this: make sure you know someone who's been there before taking that plunge.
I ended up looking like one of the actors from "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"

I have been to this restaurant a few dozen times and have ALWAYS had an issue with freshness. It is the worst Japanese restaurant in the city. Bear in mind that there are plenty of worse Japanese STYLE Korean and Chinese restaurants. A restaurant does not qualify as Japanese in my books if the chefs, and preferably the servers, are not Japanese.

I'm no Japanese, but this place was pretty darn good to me.
This place won't blow your socks off with amazing decor or a knife chandelier; it's very..... ordinary. Chairs, tables, and a bar.... the only unique thing about this place is the wall full of random autographed
photos, drawings and notes from quite a few recognizable people, like the Canucks!! Too bad they didn't have a screens there to watch the game :(
They were pretty packed when we came here and seemed like reservations are preferred on most nights. Luckily there were a few spots on the bar open and we could watch the masterful chefs do their thang!
The prices here are more expensive than what I'm used to, however the quality of food was much better! The chefs prepared each dish and allowed each item to come up to their optimal temperatures before they served it to you.
The service was excellent! They were all so polite and all wearing Yukatas. I'll definitely be back! -

Was craving some good affordable sushi (not many options living in toronto) and this place hit the spot!
the nori was slightly chewier than I'd like but otherwise great meal. -
Review from Adam B.
We had sashimi. Lots and lots and lots of sashimi. There might have been some udon in there, but honestly I can't remember because God, the sashimi. The fish was all fresh and delicious, with just the hint of natural sweetness that tells you you're eating the Right Stuff. Reasonably priced, authentically complete with a semi-drunken Japanese customer trying to talk the ears off of the sushi chefs. I'd go back in a minute if I didn't live 3200 miles away.

Absolutely amazing! Made reservations which is an absolute must since the place is a bit small, and especially so in my situation as it was Canada Day.
Ordered Miko Combination #1 which includes (1) California roll, (1) BC roll, and (1) Dynamite roll. Also ordered the Spicy tuna roll, chicken karaage, and a small dish of beef sashimi.
The sushi rolls just melts in your mouth! The rice was well prepared - moist and did not make up the whole roll as in most sushi restaurants. They did not skimp on the ingredients and rightfully so as it was been praised by fellow yelpers. The beef sashimi was just a delight and you know its good when you don't even realize its raw beef.
Service was great, staff is knowledgeable and authentic Japanese. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal and would recommend anyone who wants to take their date or someone that may not have ever tried sushi. A great place to convert them into sushi lovers.
Reasonably priced and it came to $40 before tip for two people. -

Miko makes small, perfectly crafted authentic Japanese sushi. Don't expect any "caterpillar" or "rainbow" rolls dripping with mayo, this is not the place to go for Westernized food! Instead you will get incredibly fresh fish, flavourful appies and sauces and great service!
Some of my favourite items are not on the menu - try the spicy agedashi tofu with shitake mushrooms - I end up using the delicious red sauce to dip every following item in! The yam tempura roll with tobiko and asparagus is also not on the menu but is well worth ordering.
Fresh delicious wasabi and proper white gari - no sythentic pink ginger here!
All in all - amazing. Reservations are often required because they leave a few table empty when busy to accomodate the myriad celebrities and sports stars who visit when in town.

I LOVE this place. All ingredients are super fresh, it's delicious and watching men at work is simply magical. Seating in front of the sushi bar and watching them preparing the food is great experience. Wasabi is home made strong like hell (not the bland thing you get in take-away places in town), real ginger as someone mention, only high class pieces of fish. Nice selection of beer and sake, super friendly and attentive stuff. Only one thing let me down after first visit, the girl that served the table felt that the tip was no enough and said to us "in Vancouver the tip is 10-15% of the order!". Her service was very good, but this remark was extremely rude. Is up to me to decide how much I tip and she get's her salary for god's sake!
Even this bad experience at the end didn't made me think twice before coming the 2nd time and this time it was all perfect. Still 5 stars, as place doesn't deserve a downgrade because one greedy waitress.
Now for the price: it's not the cheapest, but it's not expensive either. If you go for quantity go to "all you can eat", but don't expect this quality! -

Best sushi in town. The toro melts in your mouth. Fish is always incredibly fresh, and the staff is great too. And there's autographed pictures of the Canucks on the wall. What more could you want?
Afterwards, head down Robson to Mondo Gelato for dessert. -

How lunch time sneaks up on me, I don't know. But I found myself ravished and craving some sushi time. I rocked up to the (sushi) bar and quickly ordered a bento box.
I was pleasantly surprised with the toro for sure! It did melt in my mouth (said Jen G too!). The yakitori chicken was a nice change from the teriyaki that typically accompanies a bento box. And the tempura was very generous on the prawn front - 4 of the 6 pieces in fact were prawn!
You may be wondering why on earth it only got 3 stars with a raving review beginning...suspense for added drama...
I don't mean to judge a sushi restaurant on its rolls alone - but come on - you do sushi! And the rolls were just a meh...
The toro inside one of the rolls was yum of course, but the kappa had a funny taste to it and the california roll was kinda mushy.
Also, just a note for the wasabi impaired - they do smear a bit under their nigiri and on the inside of their rolls. I mention it because I forgot to look -and it burned a little...but that part didn't bother me that much.
And I have to say, while I liked the tempura, I thought the batter could've been less greasy. I know, it's tempura. But there was something less battery, more flaky about the batter that didn't do it for me.
I will totally be back--and will just substitute the rolls for something else - perhaps a sunomono salad! -

2.5 Stars. The sushi here tastes like supermarket sushi. The sushi rice here bears such a resemblance to the sushi rice from supermarket sushi that I think they must have tried to imitate it on purpose. The sushi chefs here probably spend countless sleepless nights agonizing over how to create the perfect example of the cold, hard, flavorless, mushed up 7-hour-stale ricecake-like machine formed rice from supermarket sushi. I personally do not like this particular sub-genre of sushi rice but, as they all say, taste is highly subjective. What seems like 2.5 stars to me may in fact be 1.5 stars to the rest of you...

We needed dinner before VFW at the Empire Landmark so we stopped in. Since we were pretty early, we got a table, but it looks like it gets busy later since most of the tables had reserved signs on them.
I had the Miko Combo #1 with a few pieces of sushi, a negitoro cone, and a California cone and ordered some extra spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls. They use wild salmon here and I was pleasantly surprised to see that their California cone used real crab and not imitation!
** Be aware that they pre-wasabi your sushi here! **
The rice consistency was nice and the fish was good. Their spicy rolls are made with the clear sauce style rather than the mayo type so it's less creamy, but still with great flavor.
Hubby had the beef teriyaki - he loved it! They do put mushrooms in it so let them know if you don't eat mushrooms! The sprouts were well done.
Service was good and attentive. Bill came out to about $25 a person which I thought was reasonable for the sushi quality.
I'm surprised the complaints about portion size - this isn't a McDonalds where you get super sized portions! Pieces are fine and I would take quality over quantity any day. -
Review from Josh G.
First time at Miko, decided to try something new. Prices are slightly higher than most other sushi joints, I dont really see why.
Started with misos, edamame....and so happy when I saw oysters, I ordered a half dozen but to my dismay, they never showed up. The sashimi here was great, wild salmon, delicate and fresh. The rolls were good. Flavorful and nicely crafted, but nothing really separating Miko for other places I have been.
First dish took at least 15 minutes to arrive...which for miso and edamame is edging on unacceptable. All and all it was a decent meal, that being said, I dont understand why I have to forgo good service in order to enjoy Japanese food in this city. I don't want to have to eat at Hapa and Tojo's just to get good food AND good service.
A good meal, but it will be a while before I return. -
Review from Nicole F.
I came here for dinner before a concert with friends last night. I'm used to expecting a very limited menu selection at sushi restaurants as I don't eat meat or fish. I didn't see much on the menu as expected, but one of my friends informed me that they make a lot more than what is on the menu and to try asking. Weird, but sure. I usually know what I want anyways.
One thing that caught my eye that WAS on the menu was the deep fried eggplant. I ordered this with no bonito flakes and requested a yam and avocado roll be made. (not on the menu)
The eggplant dish came first. I was expecting some battered tempura dish as usual and was surprised to see long slices of eggplant in sauce brought out. It was SO delicious! It came with some yummy sauce and I added a quick splash of soy sauce. Perfect. The serving was small though and I probably could have eaten a salad bowl's worth of this.
I tried a bite of my friend's spicy agedashi tofu. Delicious! Just enough of a kick without needing to gulp down a giant glass of water.
I'm not sure what happened, but for some reason the rest of our table's orders took half an hour to reach the table. Most of the food was just sushi rolls. We were in kind of a hurry so this part sucked and we had informed them that we did need to get moving.
My yam and avocado roll finally came out and it was pretty good. Not the best, but not the worst. The avocado was perfectly ripe just the way I like it and the yam was nice and crispy.
Aside from this taking unusually long and the rolls being somewhat pricey (about $5.50 per veggie roll) the waitresses were very friendly and seemed to be doing the best they could. Not sure what the problem in the kitchen was... -
Review from Allen W.
Miko fills up quickly so make a reservation if visiting during peak hours. We arrived just before the dinner rush and quickly found a table.
Miko offers a large menu of appetizers/robtoa which I wasn't expecting. I ordered the grilled eggplant topped with bountiful bonito. It was light and succulent.
I also had the spicy tuna roll and dynamite roll, both of which were quite good and full of flavor.
The staff were extremely friendly and attentive, refilling our green tea mugs multiple times during the course of our dinner.
I'm still perplexed by the hockey autographs which paper the walls of this sushi joint. I guess everyone needs to have something unique and this is Miko's. -
Review from Stas N.
A very very nice sushi restaurant. We got to sit at the bar and watch the chefs make various rolls, which was awesome. For pretty much every roll they made, I wanted to interrupt the chef and ask him to just serve the roll to us.
You have to try the toro - it simply melts in your mouth. -

Miko appears to be a very popular spot. When we walked in just before 6pm on Friday, more than half of the tables (including sushi bar) were already reserved.
The menu boasts a respectable selection of robata and yakitori dishes. I had BBQ smelts and their special chirashi for dinner. The smelts could have been charred a little more. Although there was a very good selection of sashimi on my chirashi, the fish somehow was lacking in flavour. -

It's about 10 years since my last visit.... but wow, Miko is back on the list, baby! All of the sashimi was super fresh. The Special Chirashi Don was excellent. Unagi Don was very good - but not the best. We also had the Deep Fried Gingko Nuts and Sauteed Clams as appetizers - both very good. The highlight of the meat was the Fish Karage - ordered upon recommendation by the the server. It was a sole. The whole fish is filleted and deep fried. You get the whole fish - head, tails, and fins - very tasty and crispy... LOVED it!
In addition to the food, the service excellent as well. Read more about my experience here:

Wow! How did I not know about this hidden gem less than 3 blocks from my office? Reasonable prices, great quality, and my favourite maki rolls offered in combination. Excellent!! The sushi was extremely fresh and high quality, especially considering the very reasonable prices. I'm always on the look out for no-fuss decent sushi at decent prices a stone's throw from the workplace (to add to my usual sushi haunts), and this one definitely deserves several return visits from me. Mmmm!

A solid sushi restaurant. I ordered the Special Chirashi Sushi - which is my go-to when I feel like trying everything and anything - and it was quite delicious. Something about the rice was absolutely addicting... I could've just eaten their rice alone and left happy!
The decor is pretty fun too, as the walls are covered by autographs of hockey players, mostly Canucks of present and past. Apparently Miko is a favorite among Canucks...
A few downsides of our visit - the edamame was a little soggy for my taste, our meals came at different times (I was almost done my plate by the time the other person got her dish), and the place filled up FAST. We were able to sneak in without a reservation, but I think it's best to make one to guarantee yourself a seat. -

Came here for sushi with my family and it was fine. Nothing special. Our waitress was kind of rushed but it was lunch hour.
We all love yellow tail and ordered it. Our waitress came back a bit after we'd ordered and said that they were out of yellow tail so we'd have to substitute something else for that. I was disappointed; it's my favorite kind of sushi. Also, what sushi place runs out of yellow tail? We were pleasantly surprised when we got our order though, because all of us had yellow tail on our plate.
Huh?!?
The sushi was just ok. I've had a lot better. I cleaned my plate, but just wasn't too impressed with Miko. I don't think I'll return if I make it back to Vancouver. -

Review from Evilyn T.
I was joining some friends for dinner here who had all raved about this place, so I was looking forward to feasting on some yummy sushies. We had a rezzo for 6:30 and the table was ready and waiting for us when I arrived early and awaited my entourage. They arrived shortly after and we grazed the menu and ordered drinks.
We didn't get to place our dinner orders until 7, and my tummy was rumbling at this point. I was a little anxious to get in and out of this place since we had a concert to go to in Stanley Park, so maybe if this was a place where they leisurely serve you, it probably wasn't a good pick on our part, so one person in our party let the staff know that we were in a bit of a hurry. We ended up getting our dinner at 7:30 and wolfing it down so we could get out of there just before 8.
I'm sure this restaurant is great for meat eaters, or pescatarians, but for vegetarians it kinda sucked. There were not a ton of dishes on the menu that were for herbivores, but one of my friends said that they serve a bunch of stuff they have at other sushi restaurants, its just not on the menu.... uh... ok? So I should just risk ordering things and hope they don't cost as much as the $5 veggie roll that I got. $5 for a VEGGIE ROLL?? Are you kidding me?? Ok, fine, maybe it will be a really big veggie roll? I'll risk ordering a yam roll as well, even though its not on the menu. Yea and the yam roll with asparagus was $5.50. Ummm...no. I ended up ordering the deep fried eggplant as well, with no breading since the breading has fish flakes on it, which was almost $5 too, and I ended up paying $16.80 after tax for two average rolls and some eggplant. Sushi restaurants are a dime a dozen in Vancouver and I know that I should not have to pay that much for vegetables, rice and seaweed, that is ridiculous.
I think the icing on the cake for me was when I put my $20 bucks down for my bill and I was not even offered or given change. Sure I am going to tip 15% (which technically is only $19.32) but don't just assume that. Maybe it was just pouring salt on my already wounded wallet, but by the end of the excursion I was pretty unsatisfied, and still hungry. Mental note = next time, check the menu before going out with friends for dinner.Listed in: Drinkin' that Hate-orade

Fantastic sashimi, great service, and great sake!
I'm pretty picky when it comes to Japanese food, but was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of service and food here. If you like fresh sashimi, you'll love it here. -

We were super hungry and tired from shopping/sight-seeing and had ZERO expectations from this place judging from the English menu and clientele but once they break out the "real" menu, this place suddenly became very attractive. Very reminscent of Murasaki in SF (but cleaner).
They had incredible basashi and madai sashimi. Totally made my night! -

This is my favourite sushi restaurant. Their food is excellent and every menu item I've tried is the same great quality. However, like a lot of sushi places, it is quite small inside and always seems to be busy. Your best bet is to call ahead and make a reservation.

Well i've eaten here several times including during the Olympics and it';s only a few blocks from my house, the sushi is always good however the portions and size of the rolls has been steadily shrinking. I went there today as they opened up for dinner and ordered the Dynamite Roll, a BC Roll and a few others and i was shocked to see at their prices that my roll was only 3" long. Each slice was actually 3/8" for a total length of the whole roll of just 2 1/2 ". I measured it with my iphone ruler. When i mentioned this to the waitress of course she barely understood english or what i was saying so i asked the sushi chef and he replied " It's was a problem with the floor matt and had nothing to do with the computer that runs your car" lol Actually he said no thats the size they always were. Not the last time i dined there and not at any other decent sushi place in town. Now i eat at Tojo all the time and i don't expect this place to match the quality of the Master but at the prices they charge you should expect to get at least a full decent length roll. Yes the shrimp stuck out of the end of the roll but the rice portion was 2 1/2 " and i expect at least a roll the length or the bambooo roller or 4-5".
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone anymore, it's a shame the rents on Robson have caused so many places to go broke or leave but you don't rob your customers to pay the rent, i'd rather pay more than leave hungry. -

I came here while on vacation from Portland and thought that everything was AMAZING! The nori was so tender and it just melted in my mouth. We got an order of tuna and salmon maki and sashimi and had to get a second order because our six year old ate most of the first order. If a little girl eats that much, you know its worthy.

miko - definitely one of the better places downtown. i give the food a four, but because of the wait time (very long on weekends) knocked down to a three.
i grew a small beard waiting for my ONE cucumber roll (and i am a woman).
that said, the roll was excellent, and the place has a very true-to-japan feel (servers in kimonos, porcelain cats here and there).
oh ya - and this place is frequented by lots of famous hockey players - the walls are adorned with "thank you for the great meal" letters, including one from the russian rocket.
good place :) -

One of the best Sushi places in Vancouver. We lived for a year on Cardero in English Bay and went to this place regularly.
