Buffalo, NY
ok, don't judge me. It's total junk food and strangely delicious!
I can see why it is a cult favorite!
I had a bean beef and cheese taco and the layer dip nachos. The nachos are actually the closest thing I have had to the wonderfully awful Jack in the Box taco! YUM!
Be clear about what you are getting into, this is not authentic anything, but it is tastey junk! -

I'm guilty of going through the Mighty Taco drive-thru in high school around 1am. Everyone always wanted Mighty Taco at this hour so I went with the flow, never recalling it being disgusting, but never recalling it be something I just HAD TO HAVE (like chicken finger subs).
Fast forward about 10 years (God I'm old...), this time back in Buffalo with my So Cal husband, and we stop at Mighty Taco. I thought that maybe we could find something to satisfy his Mexican cravings, forgetting that Mighty Taco wasn't Mexican at all. I mean seriously, their cheese is a slice of American and I've been hearing him talk about it ever since.
People in Buffalo LOVE MIGHTY TACO. You can even have them shipped to you if you don't live in the area anymore. I do understand the nostalgia factor here, but let's be real - it's really not that good, even when you consider the "not really Mexican" factor! I would have given it 3 stars, but I've experienced much better fast food Mexican in the US, like Del Taco.
I'm just saying, if someone from Buffalo tells a visitor to go to Mighty Taco, they're probably going to think our food stinks. And I don't want that to happen!
Ugh, I hate feeling like less of a Buffalonian because of this. Do I need to go give it another shot at 1am? -
Review from Dan K.
For a cheap lunch or late night after the bar food, Mighty Taco gets the job done. For sure way better than any Taco Bell. Truthfully I stopped eating their meat awhile ago, but a Bean and Cheese Burrito w/ lettuce, tomato, medium and sour cream from here is alright by me. Or get a taco hard shell the same way. Why not even both its less than $4.
Plus if you want desert those empanadas are not bad. Apple or Cherry is a toss up for me. Get one with both burrito and taco described as above all for less than $5 and your talking a pretty sweet deal.
Just had some for lunch from this location and it was as good as always. -

I give it 4 stars! Say something?!? I keep reading people say its not real mexican food.. of course its not.. its taco's and burritos out a window in Buffalo, NY. It is
Mexi-Buffa cuisine. They even have buffalo chicken burrito's, which are bomb. I wouldn't go on date nights here (trashy) but I would eat here once a month or so. Say something! -

I live in Rochester and had to stop at Mighty Taco while I was there on business a few years back. I'd been hearing about how great it is for ever. Well I must say, I was not impressed. A slice of American cheese? I had to do a double take at that slice of cheese, and then days later thought it must have been some sort of dream or nightmare I had. I've had some really good food in Buffalo, but Mighty Taco is not on that list. How does the city famed for Buffalo Wings (thank you by the way) and great Polish food come up with a taco this bad? It's almost like a little kid made it.
I understand that every city has their late night dive that they have to haunt after a night of clubbing. We have a concoction in Rochester called the Garbage Plate, which is served up all over the place. I still enjoy the Garbage Plate, which I became addicted to in my late teens / early twenties. Maybe Mighty Taco has the same effect on Buffalonians as the Garbage Plate had on me. You might come to Rochester, eat a Garbage Plate, and be totally disgusted. -

There are lots of Buffalonians that know food, but those that tell you "if you are only in Buffalo one day, try Mighty Taco", or say "WNY has great food, for example, Mighty Taco", are not among them. They are what is affectionately known as delusional, and we would never be caught dead in the vicinity of Mighty Taco.
I once heard someone on Yelp describe fans of Mighty Taco as suffering from the food version of Stockholm Syndrome. That would be hilariously funny if it wasn't so regrettably true. Every location of MT is busier than every local Buffalonian food joint I have ever reviewed, and also busier than most other fast food outlets too. That last point is not a bad thing since I don't like national chains anyway, but the former is a tragedy.
Buffalo DOES have some good Buffalo Tacos, in fact some amazing ones which have nothing to do with Mexican food, usually served by local Pizza/Wing joints or even bars... but Mighty Taco is one step below Taco Bell.
Did you hear me? I said one step below Taco Bell. Yes. I know that seems impossible. Like a contradiction in terms. An oxymoron. But it's true. I thought Taco Bell was the worst food on earth. Until I tried Mighty Taco. It is just...... so..... bad. Please, please, please stop associating this place with Buffalo. Buffalo has the best food of any small city in the USA... but Mighty Taco, along with Anchor Bar and Duff's... is one big local embarrassment. The less famous places will rock your world. Read about some of them in my reviews :)

Brooklyn, NY
Mighty Taco is a weird phenomenon. In order to appreciate it, you must let go of all your preconceived notions of what mexican food should be like. No, it's not like what you had in San Diego, forget what you had in Austin, and no, it isn't Taco Bell.
It's one of those strange regional chains that flourishes in a relatively small portion of the US. It's a rare bird, and can only be evaluated on the grounds of what exists near by. When I think of Buffalo, or Western New York for that matter, Mighty Taco is a shining example of what this region has to offer. Watch some of their strange TV advertisements on YouTube. You think Tim & Eric is original? I wouldn't be surprised if they drew inspiration from Mighty Taco. The hand drawn place mats are always a real visual treat and the food is so cheap, what's not to love? They'll even overnight you frozen burritos if you move out of their sphere of influence. I don't know of many places that will straight up mail you a crate full of food if you really need that fix. Chalk another star up there, will ya?
Sure, it may not be the best restaurant on the basis of "authentic mexican food," but you can't argue with their local following and unique culture. For a small regional chain, Mighty Taco packs a whole lot of originality.
Any time I'm in the Buffalo area, I owe it to myself to order a tray full of Mighty Taco with a couple extra burritos for the ride home. I have nothing but love for Mighty... -
Review from Carole H.
Mighty Taco is Buffalo's awesome, local, open-late, cheap and fast answer to Del Taco (as we Michiganders enjoy). I would compare neither joint to Taco Bell, as both MT and DT offer fresher, tastier items that are not the greasy, muddled pile of beef and cheese that TB boasts.
When it comes down to it, it is still mexican fast food open late to cater to the bar crowd. No one is hitting the drive through buzzed at 2 a.m. looking for authenticity. You want something cheap, tasty, and fast. Mighty Taco gets the job done well.
My favorite was the Buffito (why not call it a Buffalito? anyway..) which is a chicken soft taco with the meat dredged in spicy buffalo sauce. Delicious.Listed in: Ballin' in Buffalo

It should be a tradition for anyone traveling to the queen city to check in at one of these fine establishments. For someone whose been away for as long I, the experiance is euphoric.

Buffalo, NY
I would agree that Mighty Taco is a local tradition like Ted's, but the problem is that one place gives you assrot and the other doesn't.
Mighty Taco is gross but revered locally, for no other reason than local legend. If two stars is categorized as 'Meh, I've experienced better" then the star rating fits. It's sloppy, Mexican-spiced American food that happens to be wrapped in a tortilla. Yeah, it's not authentic but neither is "Abuela" Mora's... which is better albeit more expensive.... and is around the corner from the MT Delaware location.
The Roastito. How many screwed up Spanglish names can we come up with that are easy for albinos like myself to pronounce? You have to admit, there's some comedy here.
Cheap, dirt tacos fast food style. See you in the line for the crapper after we eat our Diarrheaitos. -

Buffalo, NY
First of all, if you're looking for authentic mexican go some place else. Mighty taco isn't supposed to be real mexican food, hell they aren't even real tacos! I tell you what they are; delicious! These aren't meant to be high class meals made for the gods! You will spend a grand total of about $5 and still be happy, so don't complain!
What you will get: Delicious food that may make you wonder what it is you're eating, but trust me, it's good, you won't die and take it for what it is, a time honored Buffalonian classic!
So keep an open mind, don't eat the wheat tortilla and remove your tomatoes and you will be fine! -

I recently moved from Los Angeles to Buffalo, and keep in mind how close LA is to Mexico.
I went to Mighty Taco for lunch, and it was quite the bustling place. Why? I guess it's because it's a local chain, because it certainly can't be for the food. I had a mighty taco and layered nachos. It tasted like something I made at home. Unauthentic, plain in flavor. -

Service is about 95% good depending where you are and what hour.
My dream come true was a drive through for Mighty Taco....sped up my time for fast food. Downside....Nothing like biting into something you did not order while your driving. Always check the bag.
If you are one of the 95% - no issue customers: The sauce haunts me, I could not consume enough of it when I was pregnant. Hot but you taste a lovely tomatoe taste within the hot.
Pricing: Anyone can afford to eat here.
Because it is local and I grew up on it....you cannot replicate the taste elsewhere no matter how authentic mexican they are....This is an authentic Buffalo, NY taste friends ask me to bring to them when I visit.
If you want gourmet, find it elsewhere.....if you want Buffalo fast food till way late at night...Come on in!Listed in: My Neighborhood

Five years ago I would have given Mighty Taco 5 stars. But since then, I have traveled the country and tried many fast food mexican and in comparison, Mighty Taco is one of the worst mexican restaurants. But in Mighty's defense, its main competitor is Taco Bell and Mighty blows it away, imagine that?
But my biggest peeve is that Mighty Taco replaced nacho chips with TOSTITOS!!!!!????!!! Are you kidding me? Terrible decision. -

OH HOW I MISS MIGHTY TACO. Will someone please ship me a bean and cheese burrito?
Im in the land of mexicans, in good ole Los Angeles, with a taco stand on every corner but I do miss my late night drives to Mighty Taco... always open to midnight or 2am. THAT yummy goodness that melted in my mouth and burned my ass hours later... i will never forget you. -

Mighty is one of the things I secretly cry for living out in Cali. Yes, we have burrito joints galore and they're crazy delicious, but also totally different. I miss my jalapeno poppers and burrito de-lite with cheese and sour cream.
*weeps*
Edit: Also, if you go to Mighty Taco expecting "authentic" tex-mex food, you're an idiot. Hey, I hear panda express in the food court has real, authentic szechuan too! -

Buffalo, NY
As a Buffalo native I've been eating this stuff since I was allowed solid food. Service is fast, their food is good, and if you're looking for a quick taco (that's what she said), this is the place. I remember when they got rid of their rectangle nacho strips, but thankfully they're back. I recommend the chicken fajita combo. Never fails.

Review from Gareth L.
All I can say about Mighty Taco is, when you want it, NOTHING ELSE will do. These days, I mostly want it because I'm driving by and at the same time hungry. It brings me back to high school when a friend of mine and I would cut half of physics lab and school lunch to get mighties and chicken fajitas (hot with sour cream) at the old Hertel location.
Mighty isn't good because it takes you to Mexico. It reminds you of home if you're from Buffalo. And for many people who are not it comfortingly welcomes them to our city.
Mighty is great b/c of the distinct flavors you can get there. Nowhere else can you get a "Nachito" - chicken in wing sauce and wrapped up with nacho chips, and cheese in a large burrito. I had this for the first time and it was surprisingly good. Also try the Rostito. And when you're hungry, you've gotta have the El Nino -- 1/2 pound of beef (after cooking) -- my standby is hot with sour cream.
I used to say it is better than Taco Bell, but that is a poor comparison, b/c it is not local pride that keeps me out of TB. I'd put Mighty in the same league as McDonalds, Burger King, and Wendy's. We all have our favorite cheap cheap fast food joints, and Mighty is mine.
My 3 star rating is really an objective one. As much as I love the place, it is a good alternative to other fast food chains. It is cheap, and usually really fast. The service is as you would expect, as is the decor and cleanliness. -

MY- TEE--TAA-KO-- ( great radio and B-movie placement TV ads)
Oh Yea! Grew up eating these from 1976 to present ( when I visit from Seattle) The good old days - stoned band members of " Pegasus" serving tacos late at night on Hertle ave (only location back then)-
Garden burritos w/ bean sprouts,Meat, bean and cheese burrito - huge heavy sack of cheap awesome food. Eat before that Gentle Giant concert...uggggg :).
TRUE BUFFALO HERITAGE - If you are not from Buffalo ( like my wife from California) and seek a Carne Asada, ( nice in Seattle) Then you will not get it. Loganberry, Band ads on the cork board. Crazy place mats IE: zippy the pinhead, freak brothers' style. If you don't know the style, then you really get lost on the history of the place mats..lol
I eat here first and always when I go back home...drop the Wife and kids at what ever place they like and CONSUME huge amounts of MT and relive my past in every bite, as a responsible very old, married Dad- I Love it all the more YUM!

While visiting from Dallas, I was persuaded to try Mighty Taco. This place should be ashamed for lack of quality they offer. Nothing they serve is even close to Mexican or Tex Mex food.
The inside of the diner is filthy and the the staff consists of uneducated, careless teenagers.
I will never eat at this place again. Absolutely horrible! -

The fond memories I have for Mighty Taco.
I grew up in B Lo and used to go to Mighty all the time to eat and socialize. More socalize than eat, hey it's Buffalo, what is a high school kid to do?
I was back in Buffalo visiting family and starving so I thought I'd relive the old day and have a taco.
it was good. It was nostalgic. It was fun.
If you're not a local and you find yourself in Buffalo, hungry and want a cheap meal, go to Mighty, get a taco and an empanada, and you must get the loganberry. -
Review from Chetan P.
Manhattan, NY
To tell you the truth, it really isn't that bad. The taco meat is average, but the different toppings are what add some distinction to this place. I think I used to get a bean burrito with cheese and the same toppings that come on their roastitos (?). Think of it like this: Wendy's is to McDonalds as Mighty Taco is to Taco Bell. Basically, this fast food joint lets you have it your way when you order - for an additional fee of course
When I first arrived to Buffalo, I loved Taco Bell. A girl I was seeing introduced me to Mighty Taco. Mighty Taco soon won me over because of distance. She didn't like driving all the way out to taco bell and bring it home for me. I got the same low quality taco / burrito within 5 minutes instead of 25.
If you get any thing that involves a nacho shell, eat it there. It get soggy very quickly.
They used to have a burrito called the "El Nino" - named after the storm. The thing was about a pound of diarrhea juice... It hit the spot, but watch out, the next 2 hours of your life may keep you on the pot!
This certainly isn't the best Mexican food anywhere. TRUST ME. Locals however view it differently. Since this is a local chain, a lot of people support it. The food is better than taco bell, but that's like saying this diarrhea sandwich is better than that one because it has nuts and corn in it.
Most of Buffalo offers a drink called Loganberry. It is not made from a real berry, but has a unique taste to it. try it if you never have before. Think of grape Koolaid plus 2 pounds of sugar.
Will I go back to mighty taco? Hell yea - it is some of the better fast food Mexican food in buffalo. Please remember diarrhea sandwich reference -

I transferred from San Diego to Buffalo for military duty. I was told to try Mighty Taco, and to not bother with Taco Bell. Being from San Diego, why would I bother with Taco Bell?
Mighty Taco is the absolute worst excuse for an attempt at Mexican that could possibly exist. What scares me more is that people from Buffalo are giving it 4 and 5 stars.
I will never go back to this place again, and can't help but shake my head when I see the line of cars (much like at McDonald's - very sad) rolling up to this poor establishment. -
Review from Steve W.
Fredonia, NY
We used to enjoy mighty alot, but lately the service has sucked and the food is getting worse.
Last night was the second time we had bad service and food. It was from the hamburg location on south park rd. we went through the drive in. it took them 2 minutes of us siting there before they even greeted us. then the careless teenager who came on the speaker had to follow his corporate rulebook of suggesting some new food to us, but his speech was so hard to understand, and he delivered hislines with such a lack of enthusiasm, that we just said NO. And then we tried to joke with him , but instead of being happy and playing along, he just didn't give a crap about trying to be nice and helpful. Why is that? Is it because the corporate office treats the staff like idiots? I've found a few groups on facebook of employees complaining about it, so it must be if they are treated badly, then they act badly and you the customer gets poor quality food and service.
So our empandas were totally burnt outside and solid pie filling junk inside, we couldn't get past 1 bite of it. Unfortunately we were already on the thruway heading home by the time they cooled down enough so we could eat them, and it was too late to turn back and get new ones.
We also had poor service last week with our order from the west seneca location, they didn't put the chips in the bag, just the salsa, and it was too late to go back after we discovered their mistake. I called to complain about it, and they took my name & address and said they would send coupons, but that was 7 days ago and we haven't recvd anything in the mail,, and it doesn't take that long for the mail to arrive from Amherst to Fredonia.
If we return to mighty taco again, we'll order at the counter, and check our food below we leave the counter, because it is obvious they are lacking in quality control. -

Umm.. What's wrong with some of the people who rated Mighty Taco? It is my favorite establishment in which to have American-Mexican in the WNY area!

This is NOT mexican food. It's some americanized-bastardized version of spicy mexicanish food. They may call those food items "burritos" and "tacos" but it's not mexican. What it is--is fucking delicious.

MIGHT-TEE TA-CO...this is a buffalo institution...i miss it so much! i always stop here for a beef, bean, and cheese burrito and a loganberry...people in nyc seriously think i'm making up loganberry but oh man is it real and ever so delicious (except it does give you a sugar cough if you inhale a little of it by mistake). if you find yourself in the wny area def. opt for mighty over a mcdonalds or other fast food options.

My partner would kill me if he knew that I only gave Mighty Taco 4 stars...shhhhh! He grew up in this place and dreams about their burritos and empanadas. I like it a lot, but it must be a hometown thing. I like the bean and cheese crunchy tacos, cherry empanadas and Loganberry- all at the Lockport location.

No, this is not a taqueria.
Yes, I'm sure you had better Mexican food in Southern California, because everything in Southern California is so much more awesome than the rest of the country according to people from there.
This is TexMex-influenced fast food, and is the best around in that category. After you have had Mighty Taco, you will never ever go back to Taco Bell.
I recommend the Super Mighty, or the Bean and Cheese. -

Nothing enrages more than a Buffalonian that would rather eat at Taco bell over MT. And for everyone out there giving it 2 stars and saying it's not authentic, IT'S FAST FOOD! in Buffalo, based on a style of cooking from thousands of miles away. Of course it's not! I now live in California. I can find authentic Mexican everywhere, but I still miss mighty. Thankfully, they now ship coast-to-coast! I eat here every time I'm visiting.

Buffalo, NY
This is a Buffalo tradition as much as Teds Hot Dogs are. When it first opened on Baily I remember it being a run down joint run by Hippies. I think you could even get beer and it was open mad late... oh and some real real hot..hot sauce.. Anyway over the years the place has become a staple..granted as the prices have gone up and the size of the burritos have gone down, it still is wonderful. The Veggie Burrito is great as is the staple Meat and Cheese...Xtra Cheese of course. Just understand this is not a Cali type Mexican Burrito joint, this strictly has its own Buffalo twist. Consider it the McDonalds of Burritos. Fast and Cheap! A similar up and coming is place is Elmwood Taco and Sub.. Their Mexican food is vert similar to Mighty but has more or a Cali twist on it.. Now if only someone would start having Low Carb Multigrain Burrito shells! -WINNER!

So yeah it might not be Mexican but who doesn't love taco's! It is a local taco chain... and its a fairly quick place to grab something to eat. Their Super Mighty pack is just what I need. A 6pack of spiced meat, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream. You can't eat just one, so eat 6!

I don't care what you call it. Mexican, american, fast, foreign- it's delicious and it's cheap, and it's about 10,000 times better than any of those other taco chains.
I mean as far as I'm concerned, in Buffalo there's two seasons: "chipotle chili is back" season and "BBQ Beef is back" season.
I just wish it was still open til 3 am. -

While my band was in town to play a gig in Buffalo, my friend recommended a restaurant across the street from his record store. It was called Kelly's Corner and it served a fairly decent beef-on-weck sandwich and wings. But since we had two vegetarians with us, after eating we stopped down the street to try out what we figured would be a passable Taco Bell rip-off so that everyone could eat. What we learned was:
1) A vegetarian burrito at Mighty Taco is a slice of white American cheese with lettuce and tomato.
2) A vegetarian taco is the same thing.
3) People in Buffalo have absolutely no idea what Mexicans do/eat.
This was easily the worst fast-food restaurant I've ever had the displeasure of spending no money at. The vibes were harsh in there as well, with a heavy methed-out Juggalo presence which can strike fear into the heart of anyone who's seen a book that wasn't about Ozzy Osbourne in the last three years. The gig that night was great, but Buffalo's food record continues to bum me out every time I visit. Great folks in town, though! -

I don't know why I go to this place... believe me, this is not authentic texmex by a long shot. But there's something about that first bite of a taco in the mighty pack, dipped in nacho cheese, that is burned into your memory. It's a Buffalo standby for sure though, from the roastitos to the nachos, to the filthy locations wherever you can find them.
