Of the three places we've stayed at in Tofino, this is the warmest and coziest, and the best value.

We stayed in the Headlands Suite mid-january, and it was nice to be just upstairs from the lounge and lobby while the storm battered the area. And the view over the rocks from the suite is amazing!

The staff is genuinely friendly and helpful... very responsive and attentive to our small requests.

The baked goods breakfast and evening cookies, as well as the all-day coffee tea + hot chocolate are a nice touch.

The one downside is slight uncleanliness... our toilet had an orange tinge in the bowl, the bathtub finish had lost its gloss... and my wife caught a silverfish, but perhaps those are unavoidable on the soggy coast...

All in all, a great 4 days in Tofino, in large part due to this wonderful lodge.

NOT living up to our expectation. Misleading Info!

We should had listened to another traveller's review on other website!
The 4 of us stayed 2 nights at the 1 bedroom "Deluxe Sixplex Suite" (#61) at Lodge at the Headland at Middle Beach Lodge in July 2007 at $410 per night (charged us extra because the base rate is based on double occupancy).

From our previous trip, we had learnt having a cabin RIGHT ON the beach is crucial.  With the beach in less than 30 steps away, you can enjoy a romantic night under the Tofino starry sky anytime at night; or, you can have a rejuvenating morning stroll along the beach when u pop right out of bed.

SO before we made the reservation, we specifically asked HOW FAR is the cabin from the beach.  We were told cabin #61 is a Beach House and we can WALK to the beach from cabin #61 in less than 10 SECONDS!!

When we got there, we found the cabin in fact is SITTING ON A HIGH CLIFF (~50m) ABOVE the Mazkenize beach!   Yes, you can get to the beach in a second - unless you jump off the cliff of course.  It is definitely NOT ON THE BEACH as the receptionist mentioned!   There is a path leading down to the beach but it took us 10 MINS for 4 healthy adults in our 20s!  Also the path is quite steep, slippery, creepy and can be dangerous at night.

    The CONS summarized:
    - Definitely NOT "beach front" as advertised.
    - Suite is TOO SMALL.  Terrible futon.  Quite expensive for a group of 3-4 ppl value-wise.
    - The Queen size futon is the worst i have slept on.  I know I cannot expect much from a futon, but it is just terrible.  Absolutely no support for your back. The floor is a better option.
    - The suite has a rustic feel to it - while the picture posted on the MBL website appears to be quite modern.
    - NO BBQ stove provided. Bring your portable one. You are allowed to bbq on your balcony.

    The only PROS:
    - Overall the suite was clean, quiet (couldn't hear anything at nite), surrounded by wilderness. A good place for relaxation.
    - Suite size is good and cozy for COUPLES ONLY.
    - Full kitchen (oven, stove, dishwasher, fridge) with all necessary kitchen tools & appliances.
    - Has TV, mini stereo system - bring our own CD.
    - Fresh towels daily.  Bedsheets and floor were clean.
    - Free Breakfast (fresh muffin, waffles, fruits, milk, juice and coffee) at 8-10am daily
    - Friendly staffs.
    - good reasonable driving distance to DT Tofino and any attractions.

    Conclusion:
As a group, we recommend you to stay away from MBL. For $410/ nite, I highly recommended renting those REAL beachfront cabin.  Many of them not only come with fantastic view, outdoor hot tub, BBQ stove, full kitchen, full laundry.

Note that NONE of the suit / cabin / room at MBL has real "less than a minute" walk to the beach.  IF beachfront is your number one criteria, then stay away from MBL.

My lovely wife took me and our dog here for my 30th birthday as a surprise and it was one of the best places I've been to. Gorgeous location as it's situated between Mackenzie beach and their own private beach. The accomdations are rustic with a nice wood-burning fireplace and a small kitchenette in our suite. Service was responsive, the maids were fast and did a through job, considering we left a bit of a sandy mess on one of our days =P

Complimentary breakfast with assorted baked pastries, fruit, bread, oats and a wide variety healthy fresh juices and coffee to go around. In the afternoon, they'll have freshly baked cookies as well.

Dog friendly, which is a must and Rusty loved the resort. They even put out a little basket with some dog treats, litter bags and some dog towels. Small details go along way to making a client happy, even the furry ones!

Lots to do around the location, well marked trails and helpful staff.

    Highly recommended!

Really nice place to stay with an amazing beach view. Soaker tub alone was worth the off season rate we paid. The main lodge felt antique even if it wasn't. A simple but satisfying breakfast was included. Tofino is beautiful.

We stayed here at the end of summer 2010, after spending hours on the Internet trying to choose our accommodations. Did we want a cheap, Ikea-esque apartment in Tofino, a private cabin on the inlet, or a room at the luxury lodges down the western coast? Ultimately we chose Middle Beach Lodge for its mixture of rustic charm mixed with luxury details. We spent more to stay there than we've ever spent to stay anywhere else before (and we've stayed at Ashford Castle and several Fairmont properties, so you know this place ain't cheap). Satisfied with our decision, we set out from Oakland to British Columbia on a 9-day tour of the area - Vancouver, Victoria, Tofino. Tofino was by far our favorite stop on that trip, and a lot of that had to do with our stay at the Middle Beach Lodge. We stayed in the upper right hand deluxe sixplex suite room with a view out over the headlands and the canopy of trees out our living room window. I spent hours on the couch curled up in a soft blanket on the leather sofa reading and just taking time to be quiet and relax. We both have fairly fast-paced and stressful jobs back in the real world - that was the thing we took away from MBL the most: a beautiful place to relax. We spent our days out and about hiking or on the water and our evenings back in our room reading, talking or sleeping. When our three nights were up I was sad to go. We vowed to return someday, knowing that someday could be many years away. Well, when it came time to plan this year's end-of-summer trip we considered many locations - Hawaii, Italy, Spain - and ultimately chose to return back to Middle Beach Lodge. It's not cheap by any means, but it's worth every dollar in my book.

Stayed at Middle Beach Lodge (MBL) in the off-season of March 2011. Tofino is generally extremely expensive, and my boyfriend and I found a great deal of $99/night at MBL with a 2-night minimum stay. We ended up having to stay at the "Beach Lodge" the first night and pay the regular off-season price of $120/night and get transferred to the "Headlands Lodge" just a short drive away. I was initially worried, because we were not to arrive on our first night until just after midnight, but our keys and a welcoming letter were waiting for us at the office door. We had no issues settling in the first night. The room at our first "Beach Lodge" was quite tiny. The bathroom was very small with a sink so tiny that I splashed water everywhere trying to wash my face, and it did not have a proper door- it had an accordion style door. There was also no room for storage. However, we were just so happy to be in Tofino that we did not mind.  It's Tofino after all! We could hear the waves crash against the rocks and the rain fall down on the lodge, which was very comforting to hear!

In the morning we had a delicious breakfast of baked goods and granola. Coffee and tea is available anytime during the day, which we took much of to-go, seeing as it was cold and rainy our first day, which was used for exploring the area.

We easily transferred to the Headlands Lodge the second morning and our room was MUCH NICER. It was much bigger, with a small balcony and sun shining through our room. The bathroom was much bigger and there was ample storage space and a television. Right next to our room was a computer we could use anytime we wanted to email our family at home.

The highlight of this lodge is the main room. This room is so cozy and comfy, full of soft couches and a giant fireplace. The view is amazing. You are right on the edge of a cliff (in both the Beach Lodge and Headlands Lodge), and all you can see is the ocean and waves crashing right below the lodge.

The staff was very kind and helpful. We had no issues during our stay.

Overall, I think staying here in the off-season definitely has its perks. Stay for cheaper, but still enjoy the beauty of Tofino. It was a lot emptier than normal I'd assume which was very enjoyable. It is a great weekend getaway to all those Vancouverites looking to relax and get away!

very beautiful setting with beaches on both sides, nicely designed cabins and guest houses-the interior design and furniture is faux craftsmen,
quite well done though it can look like a page out of a Pottery Barn catelogue-we stayed in a deluxe suite which had 2 small rooms with full kitchen and a whirlpool bath in the bathroom that can open to the bedroom-it was very lovely with the back door opening up to a charming little hill and cliff over looking the beach-the breakfast was simple but good with fresh baked goods-my criticism would be on service-it was no where to be found-the girls that worked in the reception radiated extreme attitude-everyone working there(except for the handymen) made you feel that the guest were something they put up with
