Mezza is one of my all time favorites. Not only because you get giant plates of some of the best tabbouleh I have ever had but because everything else on there menu also measures up to my ridiculous tabbouleh standards. The kabobs and the cheese rolls are to die for.
The atmosphere is lovely, I love all the large murals on the wall. They lighting is prefect, not too dark so you can actually read your menu.
My only gripe about the place is for what you get for an appetizer I would of hoped to get more on the plate.Listed in: Talkin' Tabboul-eh?

Review from Sandra M.
Two weeks ago, on a gift certificate and recommendation, my husband Ben and I went to Mezza for a nice dinner on a Saturday evening.
As we entered, the music was light and calming. The host was pleasant and took our coats while showing us to our seats. The décor is relatively open, modern and has a nice combination of glass, wood, interesting art and a parquet floor. We enjoyed a booth for two along the side wall. The only negative was that Ben found it too bright in the restaurant for that time of night.
Our appetizers came quite quickly. I am a huge fan of grape leaves. They would make my list of top five favourite foods. I do only like them a bit warm. I know this is strange, but they are so much better. I even convinced Ben to try them warm and he liked them. Cold, neither of us are fans in the least. (A lot like our shared feelings toward cold pizza). Mezza was kind enough to humour me and warm the grape leaves perfectly. The other appi was part of their prix fixe menu. They were fried folded pastries with beef and other ingredients that looked to me like an empanada. Very good.
The Hazelnut Martini was great! Not too sweet, and could easily have disappeared in minutes if you're not careful. My husband has a single malt on the rocks.
For mains, I enjoyed their mushroom basil pasta. it was well made, not too rich and reheated well the next day. Ben had the fatouch salad with chicken kabob and roasted potatoes. I gladly stole his perfectly cooked and seasoned potatoes. The salad was fresh. The chicken was cooked perfectly and well flavoured.
We decided to order wine with dinner. My husband asked to try a Lebanese wine but, unfortunately, they were out. However, the recommended wines to pair with our entrées were good. Despite ordering it to come with our entrées, the wine arrived much earlier, which allowed it to become a bit warm by the time our mains arrived (we both had whites). In fact, the timing of the whole meal was off a bit, as the appetizers arrived a long time before the entrees, which led to a large gap in between courses (and, because our wine was brought so early, the waitress didn't think to come around for another order of drinks). Our waters were kept full which is as it should be.
What was super sweet was the house made Baklava. We split a serving and found it to be plenty and a nice way to end our meal.
Before leaving, a quick visit to the ladies room revealed a very clean, modern facility with fully enclosed stalls, frosted glass and soft lighting.
Overall, we were pleased with our experience here and would recommend.Listed in: Halifax Eats We Would Revisit

Review from Erin P.
I have made it my mission to start trying more of Halifax's many eateries. While I'm sure this will put a sizable dent in my bank account, I'm rather looking forward to the challenge! I'm always looking for new places to try, that aren't just sushi places. As much as I enjoy them, a girl needs some variety!
While on the hunt for a location for a Sunday lunch date with a friend recently I discovered many of Halifax's options aren't open for lunch on Sundays. So, upon discovering Mezza and discovering it was in fact open for lunch on a Sunday this was our destination of choice.
Upon arriving the dining room was quiet. There was only one other table occupied. Do people not go out to eat on Sundays, or is it because they don't know Mezza exists? I suspect its the later. I had no idea it existed until my open-for-lunch-on-sundays hunt began.
The place is tastefully decorated in fitting colors. There appeared to be a second, smaller, dining area adjacent to the main room, perhaps for booking private functions. I also hear their bathrooms are quite lovely as well!
The service was also great. Friendly, efficient, attentive but not overbearing.
And the food was delicious as well. As our lunch date was a few weeks ago I do not recall what my friend ordered, a wrap of some sort, however I got the falafel wrap, and we shared a platter of potatoes and the fatouch salata. Everything was very tasty and well prepared.
Overall, I had a great experience at Mezza. They've certainly got a good thing going. -
Review from Ben B.
It was a sad day when a Mezza server explained that the era of half-off apps on Tuesdays and Thursdays had ended. A very sad day, indeed.
Suddenly, the cheese rolls I've come to know as a $4.25 no-brainer alongside $3.50 hummus and other deliciously affordable snacks have become $8-10 indulgences that really cramp my style if I'm still expected to order a $12-17 main course. Now that I can feast on a vast selection of Mediterranean specialties for under $20, I'm afraid my relationship with dear Mezza may be coming to an end.
I tried to rally behind their dinner and a movie deal that offers you a choice of an appetizer and a main, or a main and a baklava for just under $30, but the appetizers arrived smaller then normal, and both main and appetizer options were from a limited menu that excludes the falafel wrap.
It was a good amount of food for $30 especially considering the $12 movie ticket included, but the vegetable kebab (the only veggie-friendly option) is naturally just grilled vegetables with a lightly spiced sauce. The side of potatoes with garlic sauce was the only thing to get excited about.
This breakup will surely be harder on me than it will be on Mezza.Listed in: Worldly Treats, Vegetarian Bliss, Group-friendly!, Quinpoolin'

Review from Murray W.
Admittedly, despite my love of great food, I'm a little lazy when it comes to go have it unless it's in the south end or downtown. This is my sad little reason for having not patronized Mezza yet, despite its numerous accolades and tales of its Lebanese deliciousness. Last week, I finally rectified this shame, when I took a friend out for a birthday dinner.
The restaurant is a good size and is split into two main areas, with a room with a long banquette along one wall, and tables and booths in the other. The decor is warm and inviting with reds and earth tones, and has a modern Middle Eastern feel without having lots of kitschy items like many places in the city.
It's a little past the supper rush and we have the spacious restaurant mostly to ourselves, other than a few other customers. Our prompt and friendly server offers helpful food and wine suggestions; we both settle on their great dinner and a movie menu. It offers either an appetizer and entree or entree and dessert, with a Empire Theatres movie pass, for a very reasonable $29. I am down for anything that is a great deal and allows me to get a free movie as well!
I order the phyllo cheese rolls and beef kabob plate, while my dinner companion gets the hommus and pitas, with the kafta kebobs for her main. After a short wait, our appetizers arrive; the pitas are wonderfully plentiful, which is a nice contrast to many places that skimp on them. The hommus is rich without being too sharp or garlicky, although many of you garlic fiends out there might prefer it that way. The cheese rolls are delicious, with a nice light crunch from the phyllo and the cheese is slightly salty and perfectly creamy without running everywhere. My only complaint is that there were only three; need...moar!!
My kabob plate comes with a skewer of meat, fatouch salad and basmati rice. The beef is moist and nicely seasoned so that the beef is complimented without being overwhelmed by the herbs. The salad is surprisingly fresh tasting considering the time of year and has lots of crunch and a refreshing acidity to it and the rice, well, it's basmati. 'Nuff said. The birthday girl's lamb is even more moist than my beef and a bit more heavily seasoned, and oddly enough we prefer each other's skewers over what we originally ordered. Trading commences.
With great food, wine, service and atmosphere, Mezza is a winner all around and I look forward to going back and going to a movie. -
Review from Sue A.
Mezza is one of the best places in the Halifax. I always feel like it's under the radar or at least not on my radarin a big way. Every so often it pops up on the radar and my husband and I stopped in last week for dinner.
The food was as good as always. It's authentic middle Eastern food served in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. The dining room was very full with great energy--a sign of a good restaurant. We have friends who are very knowledgeable about mid-eastern food and claim that this is the real deal.
If Middle Eastern intimidates you, try the very non-intimidating, straightforward skewers. Available in beef, lamb, chicken and shrimp, they are super delicious. I had the perfectly cooked lamb skewer accompanied by roasted potato, rice and steamed vegetables.
The best part of the meal was the dessert--rice pudding with a touch of rose water. The rice pudding was one of the best I had ever tasted. Smooth and creamy and super fresh. In a town where rice pudding is widely available, this was the best I've ever had!
Mezza is a great place to go with a group. There's lots of space in their private booths or in around a big table in the bar area. The menu has lots of sharing platter options so you can sample everything.
On our visit we also learned of one of the best deals in town: dinner and a movie menu for $29. You get a movie and two courses from a selected menu. Certainly puts Mezza on my must-visit-more-often list. -

I had been to Mezza before, and I really enjoyed it. So, in the Spring I suggested to my fiance that we go there for one of our date nights. We went on a Friday night, it was cold and rainy that day, but luckily once we got inside Mezza it was warm and inviting.
The decor in this restaurant is simple, understated yet elegant all at the same time. The wall and ceiling mosaics are captivating, it provides a good echo of the food. We started with falafel for an appetizer, and it is delicious. It is clear, that is made in house, as I have tasted falafel mix before and this tastes so fresh and leaves you wanting more. For our main courses, I had the Spicy Lamb Kabob and my fiance had the special that evening which was halibut with basmati rice and vegetables.
Our main courses were delicious! My fiance's halibut was cooked perfectly, well seasoned, and bursting with Mediterranean flavour. My dish, spicy lamb kabob was so good. The lamb was cooked perfectly, not tough.. it melted in your mouth, well seasoned and the flavour was amazing! The service was very good, and the server was attentive and alert. Even though, it was a busy Friday evening we did not wait longer than to be expected. My only wish is that they would open a Mezza in Dartmouth, as we don't always want to drive to Halifax for an extraordinary meal!
I would recommend this to lovers of Lebanese food, and also to people who want to experience something new. This is the place to go! -

Mezza is great! Have been for lunch and dinner - portions are big and the food is delicious. Last night, we shared the Kabob platter and it was excellent. Nicely decorated, good service, nice washroom - downside is parking but it is worth it.

This is one of my favorite places to go in Halifax, especially if I'm with a large group. The key is to order in pairs or groups and try lots of different things. The phyllo cheese rolls are my favorite, and I enjoy their desserts as well.
On a side note, I'm also a huge fan of their washroom. Nice decor, floss, mouthwash, hand lotion, etc. Nothing turns me off a restaurant more than discovering their washroom is filthy, so kudos to Mezza for providing such appreciated amenities.Listed in: The way to my heart..., Global Goodness, Good for Groups

THIS RESTAURANT IS AWESOME. I would recommend ordering from the hot and cold mezzet menus, even though the main plates look pretty mouth watering, as well, just because it allows you to try more tasty items!
We arrived on a fairly busy Friday night, and they were out of two things we had wanted to try (fatayer b'spagneh & halloumi cheese). We ended up ordering the labneh and baba ghanoush dip (8.50 each), the cheese sampler plate (11.95), taboule salad (7.95), falafel (7.95) and phyllo cheese rolls (8.95). Everything was well portioned, fresh, and delicious! Our server was a sweetheart, and as some have previously mentioned, the bathrooms are extremely unnecessarily well stocked. This is a divine find of a restaurant! I would definitely recommend trying the phyllo cheese rolls and the labneh no questions asked. -

I should start by saying that Mediterranean food makes me eleventy different kinds of weak-in-the-knees. As my much, much better half would say, I like my food "zippy."
Commence gushing.
To say that Mezza changed my life would be kind of an understatement. It is my go-to resto for date nights, girls nights, mid-week cocktails-and-tapas, and birthday dinners. If your birthday happens to fall on a Wednesday - like mine did last year - there's no corkage, so BYOB and save yourself some coin.
My ultimate Mezza faves are on the hot and cold mezzet menus: hommus, labneh, vegetable kebbe, and phyllo chese rolls. I recommend the Mezza Sampler, perfect for sharing, so you can try the works. Mezza's lunch specials are well priced and well portioned, and dinner almost always lasts me two meals. Especially if you get the potatoes. And you really should get the potatoes.
All in all, a great spot with a nice atmosphere and truly excellent food. Don't wait - go there now. (Order the labneh.) -
Review from Hilary G.
I haven't been to many Middle Eastern restaurants but I was quite impressed with the food at Mezza (and the music is good as well). The decor is classy and yet is such that you can dress casual or dressy. My friend and I split the special appetizer which was calamari done in a Mediterranean spicy tomato sauce with tzatziki dip. WOW. Who knew calamari could be so good without batter? I highly recommend that app. We split the lunch combo for two - we each got the chicken pita which came with a huge portion of fatouch salad and lovely roasted potatoes. I ended up taking some food home but definitely left happy. The creamy garlic sauce on the chicken was delish and the accoutrements on the salad were spot on (cucumbers, peppers, great dressing, roasted pita chips). It took awhile to pay the bill but other than that, everything was perfect. And for those who are afraid of pickled things, myself included, the pickled turnips were actually quite good.

Halifax, NS
The food is excellent, but the location could be better. If this place wasn't on one of the most busy streets in Halifax and right across from a gas station, it would most definitely be 5 stars in my book.
As mentioned in other reviews, the hummus here is absolutely delicious. If you wanted a quick, cheap lunch (~$7), you could just order the hummus for one and mow down on a generous portion of soft pita and flavourful hummus complete with scrumptious olive oil.
The prices made me do a bit of a double-take, as I thought $26/$27 for a kebab meal was a bit steep, but when our plates arrived it was clear you're paying for a very generous portion of roasted potatoes, rice, steamed and grilled veg, garlic and/ or chili sauce, and 2 very tasty kebabs. I had the spicy lamb (actually spicy! hooray!) and my partner had the beef; both were very tasty and thoroughly enjoyable. My only small complaint was that as I like my meat fairly rare, I wasn't given the option to choose its doneness and it came well done; in retrospect, however, I should have piped up and asked rather than waiting for the waitress to prompt the choice.
The desserts are quite good, with the NY cheesecake being everything it should be: creamy fatty deliciousness. I would, however, like to see more middle eastern desserts available besides the ubiquitous baclava.. why not throw on 1 or 2 traditional desserts for those that want to try something different?
Overall, my gripes are fairly small, and I had an excellent meal here. I will be returning to Mezza. -

I love Mezza. Let's get this little factoid out of the way before the gush-fest begins. I have a tendency to end up there later in the evening, a spur of the moment decision to indulge but still stay close to home. It's a great place to go if you feel like trying a bunch of different dishes, and perhaps sharing with friends.
Last time I was in, my partner and I went for gold. We're both veggies, so this spot is perfect for us (but also a great choice for the meat connoisseur). Our lovely server, who always seems to be there when we are, was attentive, professional and sweet. Their wine selection is fantastic, so we started out by ordering a couple glasses of the Ksara Prieure, a Lebanese red wine. We then proceeded to order Fatouch, Hommus, Vegetable Kebbe, Fatayer B'Spanegh, Falafel, and my personal favorite, the Phylo Cheese Rolls. All of the dishes were beautifully presented and made with care. The prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is quite chic, yet comfortable. If you choose, you can dress up and make a night of it, or else simply relax and pop by in your casual attire. I recommend swinging by their website, which has all of their menus, as well as great mouth watering pictures, sure to excite!Listed in: Best Places to Eat. Period.

Review from Kent P.
It's the most upscale restaurant on Quinpool other than in Hotel Atlantica. There are a lot of hole-in-the-wall type places that offer better food at far more reasonable prices.
Falafel, kebbe, kabobs, you've had it before...but have you paid $26 for it? Well Mezza is your place!
ps
The wine list is embarrassing.
pps
best part was my trip to the bathroom, which seemed to be sponsered by a dentist. They had oral-b floss in there and a pump bottle of listerine with little paper cups. Excellent after all that garlic.
food = meh.
price = awful
wine list / price = awful
space = OK if it's dark. nice and spacious. look across to a petro-canada.
service= 4/10.
overall, not worth it- unless you're on foot in the area and are willing to waste maybe 60 more bucks than if you went to Athens. -

Halifax, NS
There are quite a few Middle Eastern restaurants in town, but this one is my favorite. I love the atmosphere, the food and even the music. It's where we often bring out-of-towners for dinner. For special occasions they even have belly dancers!
The service is awesome and the there are so many choices on the menu, it's always a plus to go with a crowd. That way you get to sample everything. Every dish is prettily plated and served with freshest of ingredients. I really enjoy their lunch specials and their Mezza platter with Hommus, Baba Ghanouj, Warek Enab, Kebbe, Phylo Cheese Rolls, Taboulé and Fatouch Salata. That's the perfect nibbling lunch to catch up with friends.
During the week, at dinner, the place is quiet, but on the weekends, it's packed and hopping. Regardless, the service is always the same - attentive, relaxed and never rushed. -

This place is awesome! I went here because all the other reviews raved about this place. Well they were right!
I love Hummus! These guys make some of the best! I ordered the Mezza Platter. It was one of the best lunches, lots of garlic. I dare to say, if you are not a big garlic fan , then do not order it. But, if you do, then this is a great lunch.
The salads that were on the tables of the others in the restaurant looked really good. I will have that next visit.
The service here was really nice, smiles and professional. The wine selection is great, although I did not have one, maybe next time.
I can't wait to go back! -

I've been to Mezza twice now. The first time I had the Mezzet Sampler (hummus, baba ghanouj, etc.). They warned me that it was intended for two, but I'm a pretty big eater, so I went ahead. I rolled out of there very, very happy. The food was all excellent, relatively authentic (Lebanese) and perfectly prepared.
We went back recently for lunch with a large group and were very happy. I had the kafta kabob and loved it. Others in the group had the chicken soup or the lentil soup and were really impressed.
Beautifully decorated, with a well-stocked bar and the most complete bathroom in Halifax (toothpicks, floss, mouthwash, you name it). This relatively new restaurant is going into our rotation from now on.Listed in: Top Restaurants

we were the last table on a weekday night here last week. we got great friendly service, i was so impressed that they didn't rush us out the door! the food was delicious, we got a couple of salads, each of which was prepared nicely with fresh vegetables and a delicious dressing. The hot plates we got were also good, the ful madames and some roasted potatoes. will gladly go back: especially since they are open past 9 pm!
