Review from Shizuko N.
This was the single hotel available downtown that was dog friendly (We tried to reserve a hotel 2 weeks in advance.) The pet fee was something reasonable (20-something dollars) also. At first glance, the hotel appears out dated and VERY small (from the outside). It does not have a big fancy lobby either. However, when we got up to our hotel room it seemed like a standard (sized) hotel room in a downtown area. It was very nice! The bathroom was big, there was a separate shower and tub. The best part of the hotel was a very small outdoor patio with a high outdoor balcony. There is a small coffee table, two chairs, and a very small potted area with a few plants. Our dog loved to stay outside and stare at the people in the building next door. We asked the concierge if there were any dog friendly restaurants in the area and he couldn't think of any (not his fault, just note that most of Vancouver is not very dog friendly place and most places won't even let you sit outside with your dog or tie it up outside). Another plus of this hotel is that you don't have to pay extra for wifi (unlike most of the bigger chain hotels) The hotel room is very nice and you definitely pay for it. Keep in mind that parking is an extra $40+/night +taxes.

I stayed at the lovely Metropolitan hotel during my recent business trip to Vancouver. The downtown location was convenient to the office, just a short walk around the block. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff was accommodating. When I checked into my room, I was greeted with a nice note from the manager accompanied by the most delicious chocolate brownie bites. I look forward to staying here on my next trip to Vancouver!

Based on other places I have traveled to I think you get great value for the rooms. They are clean, fresh, and most importantly the beds and pillows are comfortable.

Review from Halide T.
We traveled to Vancouver last October for a conference. Our conference was at a well-known classic style Vancouver hotel but we looked for other downtown locations that would be a bit cheaper. This was my first time in the city (and in Canada)so the downtown location and the price were important factors. So we picked the Metropolitan and had a wonderful experience.
From outside, it might not seem like anything fancy but inside it had a refreshing modern feel to it. My room had a king bed but the room itself wasn't huge. It was decorated in simple clean lines. Despite the smaller bedroom, it came with a huge bathroom with a large mirror and counter space, more than enough for two people to share.
The room had a fridge full of snacks that could be purchased but the best thing was the complimentary TEA (along with coffee)!!!! I'm a tea-drinker so it was refreshing to see my morning treat waiting for me at the hotel. I guess Canadians like tea more than the US Americans do !!
Hotel staff was very welcoming and helpful with suggestions about things to do around town. They even gave suggestions about money exchange, etc.
Centrally located in downtown, we were able to walk from our hotel to all around downtown during the days before the conference started and made the best of our trip.. -
Review from Ken N.
Nice hotel with attentive staff and lots of attention to detail. They do little things like leave water for you each day and a little card with the weather. For me the service was a little much and the staff seemed more like butlers in some cases and not everyday people doing there jobs. I don't like to be waited on and pampered but that's just me.
My biggest complaint was the $40 per night parking. That one snuck io on me.
Anna the bartender is one of the best bartenders I've seen. She really knew her stufff and made great drinks. They don't come cheap though. -

PLEASE NOTE THIS REVIEW IS FROM OVER A YEAR AGO
Got the room on Hot wire and wow is all i can say!
Very friendly staff and the room was very very nice however the 2 single beds were too small so i asked to change rooms. They not only accommodated me but the bellman who brought the new keys assisted me to move up the the 17th floor . The room was slightly smaller but the bed was a queen and that was what i wanted!
The bathroom was HUGE and it had a great lit up make up mirror, excellent toiletries, HUGE comfy towels, and speakers so you can hear the TV. The vanity was huge and lighting was excellent.
The hotel is in a central downtown area close to sky train and across the street from the Art Gallery and Pacific Center shopping center and a block to Robson street for more shopping and dining! ''
The staff is very very good, and i tipped well as they deserved it for the professional and prompt friendly service~
The wireless internet was FREE !! Yeah!!
Best of all they late check out i asked for was not only granted but they gave me until 2 pm!!!
Also they stored my bags at no charge when i went shopping after i checked out.
The only weird thing was that when i went out and put a do not disturb sign on the door i arrived back to find that someone had put a roll away bed in the room

Review from Kuishinbo E.
From the outside, the hotel looks dull and dated especially with the towering Four Seasons staring down from across the street. Here's why you don't judge a book by its covers. The Metropolitan is a posh hotel and definitely caters to the upper-class. The room and bathroom are luxurious and they offer all the services and amenities of a four star hotel. The staff treat you with smiles and are extremely friendly.
The location of the hotel is very convenient right across from the Pacific Centre mall, a couple blocks from Robson, Granville, a Skytrain station, as well as a few minutes walking distance from Waterfront Station.
As another perk, the wi-fi is free! -
Review from Tom L.
should really be 4.5
The hotel is very nice and clean if somewhat dated but the greatness here is in the customer service! Every staff member was polite, courteous, helpful, friendly..i could go on and on... -
Review from Miyako L.
Metropolitan Hotel was a great choice for our precious few days in Vancouver. With such little time and so much to do, it is ESSENTIAL that you be near all your vacationing needs and wants. Our hotel was not only a pretty posh little establishment, but it was less than .1 mile from everything!
Robson Street shopping: check. Japadog: check. Pacific Centre: check. Downtown fine dining: check. Venture even a little bit further out and you have Yaletown nightlife: check. Clubbing: check. Gastown shopping and bars: check. Harbor scenery: check.
With all this within arms reach, forget having to rent a car! Everything is walking distance! And with the great staff and concierge at Metropolitan, you will have no issue trying to find somewhere to go or something to do.
The pool was especially awesome as it was an indoor pool with a cool view of downtown and huge greenhouse windows and ceiling. Not to mention that it's open to guests until 11 or 12 at night. Super rare! In fact, the pool stayed open later then their bar did (odd, no?)!
Staying here definitely made our already awesome trip just a little bit more awesome :) Can't wait to come back next year! *fingers crossed*Listed in: VanCOOLver , BC

Location..location..location!
Despite the fact that our hearts will always lie with the ultra-chic Loden Hotel that we stayed at last time, the Metropolitan definitely trumps the Loden with its prime location. Located literally across the street from Pacific Centre and just 1 block from all the awesome shops & restaurants on Robson, this place is smack dab in the heart of downtown Vancouver.
I decided to spend the extra $$ for the room upgrade to their Luxury King room. This was a good decision since the room is larger with a much more updated feel than the standard rooms. Room amenities include big comfy king bed, separate couch area, LG LCD TV, iPhone-compatible clock radio, free WiFi, mini fridge and a big bathroom with separate shower and tub. Bathroom is fully stocked with Molton Brown products...nice touch.
Hotel staff is friendly and efficient. If you have a car, valet is actually complimentary. Pool, hot tub and gym are open from 5:30 a.m. - 11 p.m. After a long day of outdoor fun, the super high-temp hot tub felt amazing for all our sore muscles.
We really love Vancouver in general and we are frequently up here for family activities. To be in the heart of the primo part of downtown just makes our stays all the more enjoyable. Thanks Met!Listed in: Oh Canada :)

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Metropolitan Hotel during his business trip. We are both in our 20s and aren't business people... this hotel is catered towards the tie-wearing, briefcase-carrying crowd.
That said, this hotel is nice. The pool is the perfect temperature, usually empty and clean. The squash courts and fitness room are great. The staff were friendly (except for one ridiculously-snobby valet parking attendant).
I don't think I would stay at the Metropolitan Hotel again, but for a businessy trip in a businessy part of town, I'd recommend it to my businessy friends. -
Review from Janessa P.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights. We booked our trip through Travelocity, and we were both quite happy.
There was a little glitch at first--after we checked in (and 'broke in') our room, we realized it didn't have all the amenities we had paid for. So we had to go down to the front desk, where they sent us to another room. We took a look around before 'breaking in' this room, and realized this room didn't have a balcony.
We really really were looking forward to the balcony.
We went downstairs again, and they switched us, again.
They handled the situation diplomatically, and in fact the whole time we were there, everyone, from the doormen to the concierge to the front desk attendants, were polite and helpful. They mailed my postcard, gave us maps and directions, answered any sort of naive questions we asked, and were generally the epitome of pleasantness.
The room itself was perfect. The balcony overlooked the city--a beautiful view. The bed was huge, the headboard kingsized, we had a chaise lounge, a nice tv and a spacious bathroom.
Located in the heart of downtown, it was the perfect home base for the weekend, and I only wish it wasn't located *quite* so close to the H & M, because I like to tell myself I wouldn't have spent so much money there on unnecessary things like 8 pairs of leggings.Listed in: Le Vancouver, BC

We chose the Metropolitan because it's dog-friendly. And I don't mean just the mini- dogs, but the dogs of a size that people step aside for when you walk down the street. Many, many points for that.
First and foremost, the customer service is incredible. Every single person we encountered was pleasant, professional and friendly. Housekeeping - wonderful. Room service - excellent. Front desk - rocks. We had a bunch of requests (had to ask for non-down bed accoutrements, forgot toothpaste, etc.) and each time we were met with genuinely friendly, smiling faces. When we asked whether anything could be done about the Christmas song that the Four Seasons across the street kept playing over, and over, and over on their terrace that was just outside our window, the front desk got right on it.
So why four stars instead of five? The physical building is not in great shape. It's a bit old. And we did notice some cleanliness issues. But we would still go back, happily. -
Review from Paul C.
The Metropolitan is a mid-tier hotel chain located primarily in Toronto and Vancouver. I stayed at the (downtown) Vancouver location and found it a very pleasant experience.
+The room rate was reasonable.
+Rooms were clean and well organized.
+Hotel has a small gym and a pool on the 3rd floor.
-There is WiFi but it is not free.
-My room key card needed to be replaced and I was briefly locked out.
As soon as we pulled up to the hotel, the staff was there to take our bags and assist us with directions on where to park (garage). This well mannered and friendly service really set the tone for my whole stay. I stayed here through the new year during my first visit to Vancouver and I enjoyed the courteous atmosphere at the met.
At one point, some of my friends (that were also staying here) needed some assistance with finding a restaurant and I noticed the concierge did his best to help them. The rooms were clean, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom even had a separate shower and bath.
The Metropolitan usually has a rate that includes parking and if they are able to accommodate you with this, I would definitely suggest considering this hotel during your next stay in Vancouver. -
Review from Natalie S.
Molton Brown toiletries, Frette linens and two blocks from Robson and a block from Pacific Center...The staff here is super friendly. They come greet you at the curb, open the doors for you, take your luggage up the steps. And everyone else seems real friendly and knowledgeable.
It's an older building. There are two elevators which sometimes can take awhile to get to your floor. The room itself was not really large, but adequate. There is internet service as well. My bathroom had a tub and a shower stall. I also had a balcony that looked out to the 4 seasons. I could also see some of the harbor as well as the other buildings in the area.
The gym is small. Two treadmills, free weights, exercise balls and some other weight lifting machines. It connects to the pool which is indoors. Even though it is small, the gym was adequate for my needs.
For the price and location, I'd stay here again. -
Review from Kathy R.
What I liked:
Comfortable rooms with Frette linens and Molton Brown toiletries.
Reasonable sized bathroom with good lighting and separate bath & shower.
Wonderful customer service from the front desk.
Breakfast and valet parking were included in our rate.
Excellent location - within 5-10 mins walking distance to all the main attractions downtown.
What I didn't like:
Slow elevators.
The noise. We were on the 9th floor facing the Four Seasons pool and while I couldn't hear anything from the construction next door, I could hear the noise from the street very clearly. Cars, trucks, sirens.. you name it. I think the hotel should really consider double glazing their windows.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. -

All I remember is the bluecheese cheesecake,
it was a delicate and decadent slice, it was hella good.
The room was clean and modern. It had a balcony, great city
views and much much better from what we officially booked
on this trip. We made a mistake on booking a room
at Ramada (downtown). That hotel should burn.....burnnnnn!
But the "Met" is a great place, and expect to pay. -
Review from Brad C.
Hmmm. Maybe this a 3-star hotel. Not thrilled though.
Pros: Great location, nice rooms, clean lobby, nice pool/spa area
Cons: spotty staff, construction next door, no free wi-fi, bait and switch packages, men's locker room was not open, pool shower is freezing cold.
Ok, when you walk into your room and there's a letter from the manager apologizing for the construction noise next door, you know there's a problem.
Aside from that and the minor issues above, my main beef is the service. When checking in, I had no CDN dollars with me, and was unable to tip the valet. Then a few hours later, when returning from a night out in a downpour, the same valet stood in the breezeway and didn't even move an inch to help us with the door, and instead just kept talking to his buddy, never skipping a beat. Screw you buddy, I get the door for strangers, let alone make an effort when its my actual job.
Also, they promised a package with champagne, cookies, and a bunch of nice touches. Instead they just gave us a discount at the restaurant. Lame.
Cutting corners is a huge problem here. -

Out here on a business trip and staying here, All in all a nice and friendly hotel. I have enjoyed the stay. It has all the basics I look for and some more. Very nice location, and and every things else, I would however question if I was not staying here on business that I might pick some where else because of the price.

Review from April C.
Great location, just a block and a half off Robson Street. The concierge was very helpful. Helped with directions and suggestions for places to eat. Ask about the breakfast place just a block down from the hotel, it is a small Asian place that serves great omelets.
The rooms were comfortable. Sitting area, super soft bed, flat screen tv. Nice size bathroom with separate shower and tub.
My only issue was the construction noise in the morning. There is a new building being build right next door so you hear the crane, crement truck beeping, pounding etc so don't expect to sleep in. Otherwise a great place to stay. -
Review from Bryan R.
These guys were full of classic Canadian kindness. The room was very nice (though parking was a little pricey at the hotel--$45/day; across the street in the public lot was $12). They were full-up the weekend of our reservation and upgraded us to a luxury room, which would have been great if it hadn't meant going from two beds to one. It took them an hour to correct what they said would take 30 minutes. Aside from that, the stay was very nice, the help was helpful, and we enjoyed a reasonably-priced trip to Vancouver!

Loved this place. Great concierges who gave good advice, excellent room service that will deliver a microwave to your room for no charge, and the bed was ridiculously comfortable. We also enjoyed the pool, it wasn't huge, but it was large enough to do a few laps and loosen up after traveling a bit.

Stayed here on our first visit to Vancouver! We loved it! They treated me and my hubby if we were celebrities! Even one night they helped my husband decorate the hotel with rose petals on the bed and in a bubble bath! They were sooo good! The door man new our names! The concierge helped us out soo much with sightseeing! Ahhh...they were sooo good to us!

came here for a guest lecturer speech on fibromyalgia recently.. food might have been catered by Diva at the Met (their well known hotel restaurant) as napkins with their brand were on our tables
the food night all started with the waiter walking around with a tray of spoons.. the spoons were filled with either a deep fried goat cheese tater on a bed of apple chutney.. and a peking duck spoon which was palate pleasing amazing!
this was one of those fancy dinners where the presentation and quality are really good but the portions weren't that big
they presented with a very nice salad, i had the chicken which was well prepared and twice the size of the other option which was beef tenderloin.. dessert slips my mind but i think it was something standard like a tart
service was great as well
another good venue you to hold your event but expect to payyyy for it -
Review from Desiree A.
This hotel is modern and stylish with great service and modern room features like being able to listen to the television when you're in the bathtub. Beware, the rooms are very small, but they are beautifully designed and decorated which partially makes up for the small footprint. The rooms all have doorbells which is a nice feature. The food at the Diva restaurant was delicious, especially the deserts. This hotel is in a fantastic location and is within walking distance of many museums and restaurants. This place would rate a 5 if the rooms weren't so darn small.

Great location, outstanding service. We were in Vancouver to celebrate a 75th birthday and they pulled together a suite and two adjoining rooms for the family and - surprised the birthday girl with a chocolate soufle late in the day with her name and best wishes spelled in chocolate! Breakfast at Diva's the morning after was good.
