Its a good place to eat or snack after work like on Fridays. I like their happy hours menu from 5-7 pm, oysters, mussels and shrimps, etc. Some of the menu can be viewed as overpriced. Anyhow, this restaurant is good and i like to go once and a while.

Brasseries really aren't my thing. Eating French food in France is already tiring enough for me and the last thing I ever want to to do in North America is eat "Authentic French Food."

This pricey restaurant is typical of all the brasseries you'll find in Paris: Expensive, heavy, and tasty.  However, the menu is more colourful then what you would typically find in a Parisien Brasserie. Duck confit poutine and Duck Shepherd's Pie isn't what you would consider traditionally France-French (Maybe Canadian French?). A good thing too, because the Brasseries in France can be very boring.

They serve an incredible amount of seafood in this restaurant, including a large selections of fresh oysters. Unintentionally, I also ordered all seafood too. To start, I had a lobster and oyster chowder (good) and for my entree I had the Crepe of the day, which was a mixture of fish and shellfish, with a sundried tomato sauce to top it off (very good).

Our server was extremely well trained and professional and very attentive. The food, nevertheless, came very slowly. Maybe they're cooking it from scratch in the back? I don't know.

Apparently the bar in the back is made of a giant sink, but decor wise, I found it to be fairly average, though the spinning fans on the top I actually found to be an annoyance.

Was $40 worth what I ordered? Not really. But it's in the heart of Ottawa, next to the Rideau Centre and Westin, and down the street from Byward Market, so I guess you're paying for their location.

My friend and I had a great meal at lunch.  The service was exceptional. A little expensive, but if you want good food...this is the place to go.

I'd go back to Métropolitain for the service alone.  The restaurant has a great atmosphere and fits into a perfect spot on the edge of the Byward Market next to the swanky Chateau Laurier and attached to an equally swanky condo building.

The host greeted myself and two friends with a smile and was able to seat us quickly even on a Friday night.  The server was prompt and had a long list of wines that he recommended (and remembered!).

I opted for Rainbow Trout which was risky considering I believe my father cooks trout better than anyone.  He has some new competition now though.

Prices are a bit high but I consider this a restaurant I probably won't be back to for a few months so it was certainly a treat.  I would, however, consider returning for their happy hour.  It's weeknights from 4pm to 7pm and they have cheap oysters.

It's dubbed "Hill Hour" so I suspect a lot of staffers from nearby Parliament Hill swarm the place.

LOVE the atmosphere. Like I stepped into a French bistro, but I'm cool and French too and can speak the language. I can't wait for the summertime so I can eat outdoors on the gorgeous patio. I went with my family, four of us, so two people ordered the Winterlude table-de-hote, each of the two things offered per course so we could all share and try everything.

Starters: Really atypical green salad with fennel, green beans, red onion and a Dijon-vinegrette dressing. Hit the spot and big enough for all four of us to get good sized tasting.
The roasted red pepper soup was disappointing. It had the look, feel and taste of tomato soup.

Mains: I think the kitchen had a bit of trouble with overcooking that night. I had the bouillabaisse and while I loved the broth and clams, and shrimp, the salmon and scallops were overdone. The salmon didn't flake without a concerted effort.
Everyone liked their meals enough. The coquille St. Jacques was tasty, but yet again the scallops could have been cooked less.
The trout was really nice but the lentils it came with came too buttered.
My sister, the vegetarian, had the butternut squash ravioli. Again, I liked it, but they could have been fluffier and the butternut squash seemed to be missing. Too many buttery issues.

Dessert: Sick, in a good way. Each plate was artfully presented, with a blackberry and half a strawberry and the decorative swipes of chocolate and caramel across the plates.
The lemon tart was velvety and had an amazing shortbread crust, thin.
The chocolate cake was like eating a large, expensive truffle, yet it was a gorgeous slice of cake.
I hope they make these in-house but if they don't, I am tracking down the bakery.

Had lunch with two work colleagues.

The service was good, the food was better.  I had a salade nicoise with a grilled tuna steak on top.  Extra anchovies?  You bet.  It was outstanding.

The atmophere is French Bistro.  The prices seemed high by US standards, average for Ottawa.

I'd give this place five stars just for serving Stiegl beer from Salzburg on tap.  Combine that with great atmosphere, friendly service from often eye-popping servers, this place has the potential to be superb.

But they do fall a bit flat on the food side.  Their raw seafood dishes, and we ordered several, seemed less than fresh.  Top that with the fact that while we arrived just before the happy hour seafood specials ended, we weren't served until a couple after happy hour ended, which meant "the computer" wouldn't let us enjoy the oysters at $1 each.

We ordered about 60 anyway.  About 40 were good.  One plate of 20 were not fresh and not good. Ditto for the mixed seafood dish.

Really I should be writing two reviews for Metropolitain: one for the brunch and seafood, and another for everything else.  Everything else would get only two stars - and that just for the ambience.

However, the brunch is nice as they have an excellent farmer's-style sausage, and the Parisienne bistro ambience is that much more lovely on weekend mornings.  Pancakes, waffles, etc just average.

But where Metropolitain really is excellent is the Parliament Hill hour, where their fresh and delicious seafood menu offerings are reasonably priced.  Jumbo shrimp for $1 each.  Highly recommend!

French 75 champagne cocktail - check

Half dozen raw oysters - check

Baked scallops topped with spinach and mashed potatoes - check.

    Profiteroles for dessert - check

Not to mention the beautiful buildings and statues closeby. And I was able to walk to this restaurant from the Fairmont Chateau Laurier. This entire place feels like the France I've never known...

We went here a few weeks ago - worst restaurant experience I've had in a looong time. (And I'm not a snooty person!)
My husband and I showed up on a Thursday evening and ordered drinks and meals. Our friends were meeting up with us later for drinks.  When our food arrived at the table (after a much-too-long wait) my husband's fish (I think it was Ontario pickerel) was COLD - yes, raw and even a bit frozen inside.... when we told our waiter, there was hardly even a reaction, let alone an apology (though we realize it isn't HIS fault) or offer to get something else for us.
So, my husband never ended up eating and we were headed to a 2.5 hour show afterwards!  When our friends showed up we flagged a server down and ordered drinks which never came. Evenutally we just had to leave because of the upcoming show and just as we had given up and asked for the bill they brought ONE glass of wine (which we'd ordered ages ago).. none of the other drinks. what a mess.
    SO OVERALL :
    Service - TERRIBLE
    Food - Raw / Frozen
Drinks - would have been nice.....
