I really need to make a point to go to Metro Cinema more often, because it really is a great place to see a film. They mostly show independent. foreign, or documentary films, or sometimes they will show a cult hit. Often, they focus on themes, like they will show only the best zombie movies for a week.

I've caught some good, bad, and strange films here. I once saw a remake of "Halloween." It was obviously low-budget, but that wasn't the problem. It was just bad. I've also seen "Three Extremes," which is three short Japanese films. One was about eating aborted babies to keep looking young--very disturbingly strange, but maybe a critique on how society obsessively focuses on beauty?

I like the theatre itself. It's smaller, but it's also cozy. It's not flashy or fancy like some big theatres. When I have more time, I plan to come here more often, and I think the yearly membership will totally be worth it.

The snacks here are great, and Kerri is right, the popcorn is really amazing. The bottled water and all the snacks are cheaper than commercial movie theatres too. The Metro also gives discounts to students, so make sure to bring your student ID.

You can pick up a Metro film schedule at the entrance of many shops or cafes, like Remedy.

All screenings are at Zeidler Hall in the Citadel Theatre, 9828 - 101A Ave.

I first went to see A Clockwork Orange here. They have a small concession table as you go in. The popcorn is so fresh and tastes absolutely amazing - WAY better than the standard theatre fare. They carry a selection of candy and canned pop and bottled water.

The Metro Cinema Society specializes in bringing independent art films to the Edmonton public. Check out the Deadmonton Horror Film Festival coming up toward the end of October.

You can purchase tickets per performance or purchase a membership. For $125 you can see all the films you want for an entire year! This is definitely worth it if you see more than a dozen films per year.

All tickets and memberships go on sale half an hour before each screening. There are no advance sales with the exception of some special events.
