In a perfect world no one should have to bring their beloved pets here.   I will admit I was hesitant to go as I hadn't heard much good about this place.

I am here to report that all of what I heard was not what I experienced.  The staff were super friendly and compassionate when I had to bring my new dog (I'd only had her for 3 days) in for a mystery swelling.  Because she is new to me she is still nervous and unsure.  The crew here were excellent with her.  They got down on the floor with her and made sure she was comfortable with them throughout our visit.  They explained everything and gave me my treatment options and helped me weigh the pros and cons of each.

I am very greatful we have this facility available to us.  Like I said, no one should ever have to bring their furry friends here.  But should an unfortunate situation ever arise,  rest assured your pet will be well taken care of.

    Edited to add:

When I returned home with my dog in the few minutes we were home I thought we were going to have to turn around and go back as things suddenly started to look worse.  I called the clinic back and let them know what was going on.  The vet spoke to me and advised that while it looks nasty it is actually a good thing.  They were great, and very helpful and reassuring.  I couldn't have asked for anything better.  Two big thumbs up from me!

It took this place literally 10 minutes to pull out and flush a rusted nail that Nova Scotia Power left laying around the pole they repaired in the Sandy Lake offleash dog park. No sedation of my dog (they said that would be an additional $126min, and they didn't feel it was necessary.) and the bill ran to $253 for 10 minutes, no joke. The emergency fee was $86+tax, the regular vet fee was $54 +tax, some antibiotics (7 days worth x2 a day so 14 pills) were 65+ tax (I later discovered these exact same generics would have been $16 at Walmart Pharmacy) and $15 + tax for miscellanious supplies? (probably the water for the flush and...hmm?)   Now mind you they can't help the $33 in taxes so $220 for literally 10 minutes of time.

I'm sorry but that's just sad any way you slice it.

No pet owner WANTS to end up here, but as reality has it, most of us do at some point in the course of a pet's life. Or, if your dogs are drama queens like mine who insist on only contracting mystery illnesses and conditions on Sundays when all other vets are close, you'll be quite familiar with this place. As the only after-hours vet clinic in the city, this is your main destination for any night or weekend issues with your pets. The staff are incredibly compassionate (said having ugly-cried from time to time in their lobby) and are dedicated to making sure they get to the bottom of the issue.

During a week-long battle against Hemorrhagic GastroEnteritis (terrible...if you get in this situation, send me a message), I was carting my dog to-and-from this clinic and our regular vet at the start and end of every day. While I hated watching my bill ratchet up to astronomical levels (It's approximately $150 as soon as you walk in the door to see a vet here), they reassured me every day that things would turn out okay and that Calvin (my dog) was being a model patient. It really made my life a lot easier during a really tough time.

When owing a pet you will come to find out that at any cost you will do what you have to when something is wrong. We discovered a large spot growing on our dogs throat which seems to be getting bigger the longer we stared at it. After calls all the Vet's in town we discovered that the Metro Animal Emergency Clinic located in Burnside was open.

Off we go to this location not knowing what was wrong and within minutes of registering we were in the back and this young girl came out and sat right on the floor with him and said oh that is only a hot spot. After she got is shaved, bathed and medicated she gave us some great information on how to prevent these in the future.

WOW $210 for a hot spot. Oh well he has not had one since so knock on wood. So thank you for all your information and patients.

Unfortunately, I'm far too familiar with this place, but I'm very grateful it exists.  Every evening and weekend, when the ordinary veterinarians' offices shut down, the Emergency Clinic opens up - and stays open until your vet's office re-opens.

Right now, my sister has a very sick kitty, and he's been going back and forth between this clinic and his regular vet for several days.  The poor little guy is on IV fluids and antibiotics for a mysterious infection that has yet to be diagnosed.

The Emergency clinic offers peace of mind that he's getting the best possible care (care that wouldn't even be possible outside of a vet's office after hours) while we figure out what's going on.

Of course, this kind of care doesn't come cheap. But what are you gonna do? It beats the alternative.

The doctors and staff are helpful and empathetic. The clinic even offers a "shuttle" to take your pet back and forth if you can't make the trip over at 8am when the switchover happens.
