Decent place for a meal. They have a nice setup to deal with the lunch crowd. Something for everyone.
It wasn't the lunch hour when we went, so we missed the usual crowd. Perhaps this is why the waiter decided not to write down our order. I have a theory: anything more than 3 things and you need a list, or you will forget something. I was right!
Food was tasty and served quickly. -

I'd classify this as near the bottom-end of the middle-of-the-road upscale places in the city.
The lunch paninis are decent but it's not a great place for dinner (the food's forgettable). That being said, it is a little cheaper than other middle-of-the-road spots so if that's a bigger concern, you may enjoy it more than I. -

I avoided this place like the plague because I thought it was too fancy-pancy for me. The cold, grey exterior of the building (formerly an old bank) doesn't particularly look inviting for stragglers like me.
However, my friend invited me along and assured me the meals were affordable and their lunch menu exquisite. I put on extra lipgloss and joined her.
I picked a good time to go -- the restaurant is decked out for the holidays, and it is gorgeous. Maybe I'm easily amused by pretty lights.
There was nothing pretentious or uncomfortable about this place. Sure, there were handfuls of business men seated around tables and others at the bar, but we didn't stand out like sore thumbs.
My friend was right. The lunch menu? Fantastic. I ordered the "Montreal Gazette" panini with a side of spinach and strawberry salad for under $10.00. You can mix things up with French onion soup or other side dishes as well. Paninis are their lunch specialty, and each one is named after a famous newspaper (get it, PRESS and Bean?). For such a low price, the food is fitting for a reputably high-end restaurant, and the service is great.
As far as I know, this place isn't extremely popular yet. It might be one of St. John's little secrets, and here I am announcing it to the world. Shh.
They have a great wine selection as well, but perhaps I'll save that experience for when it's sometime past noon. -

It's all overpriced food from Costco.

Food was okay, service slow. The new venue is quite a downgrade and takes significantly away from the experience.
