Review from Sarah Louise F.

I am going to have to jump in and say that the Meow Foundation is an organization that does what they can, with the resources that they have. I am involved and keep up to date with Calgary's animal rescue non profit community, and things can be tough.
I also want to point out that being a no-kill shelter, the Meow Foundation does not just take in every cat. They take in only stray and abandoned cats and emergency cases. They foster out orphaned kittens/pregnant cats to homes that can accommodate to this. They do not house feral cats since this is very stressful for the cats; instead they run the Trap/Neuter/Release program in order to implement population control. They base their intake on capacity. If they have no room, they cannot take in more cats. Given that they are a registered charity and humane society, I highly doubt they would "unethically" overload themselves.
Also, in Calgary for strays that do not end up somewhere like MEOW, cats often end up at the Calgary Humane. While the Humane Society is an awesome organization with an open door policy, they do unfortunately have to euthanize in the case that an animal is too unhealthy to treat, un-adoptable, or has extreme behavioral issues. So... would you rather see a stray cat in a crowded shelter doing the best they can, or a shelter with an open door policy also doing the best they can, but may unfortunately have to euthanize the kitty if is isn't adoptable? It is a tough choice because obviously neither is ideal in a perfect world, but it is reality for most animal rescues.
I also support the work the MEOW foundation does within the community to reduce the stray cat population. Not only do they have the TNR program, but also SNAP- Spay and neuter assistance program. Scope it out.
I advise that we support organizations like MEOW in order to create the healthiest environment possible for the animals, and realize that in a large way, it is society's fault that these poor kitties are in a shelter in the first place. Spay, neuter, and license your pets! Don't take an animal into your family and then abandon it. Adopt a rescue! -

This organization is CHEAP and UNETHICALLY overloaded with cats
This organization keep 90+ cats all in the same small residential house, which means that disease and illness is ramped. They are a no kill foundation, however the conditions in which these cats live are atrocious. You can personally ask any of the adoption coordinators and they will tell you that it is common for every cat they adopt out to have feline hepatitis, which is not deadly however is a life time disease.
I truly believe that even if this facility had more money they would still accept more cats than they should ethically care for at one time. There is serious ethical issues with the way this organization is run.
The cat I saved from this organization is a wonderful pet and I will love her always. BUT she has been mentally traumatized from being around so many other cats and will have hepatitis for life. Her treatment while with MEOW was poor.
Be careful where your are adopting your animals
Healthy environment = healthy cats
Meow foundations = Unhealthy environment =Unhealthy cats -

I'll have to jump in as well. I'm not a cat owner, and i've never even considered owing one due to allergies. But I do know some of the volunteers and executives of the charity, and they're as honorable and caring as some of the best people I've ever known. They struggle with the funding they have and do what they can within their resources. Most importantly, their spaying project has probably done more to help the cat population (and prevented a lot of carcasses dumped into landfills). I have only but praise and sympathy for their efforts.

We adopted our Shadow (formally Joey) in 2005 and he is the light of our lives and he is very healthy and loving. I would recommend the Meow Foundation for their principles to any one who is interested in getting a kitten, adult or senior to take into their home.

This is an amazing cat rescue organization in that they promise that no cat that enters their facility will be put down. They facilitate the adoption of stray and abandoned cats that they rescue into new loving, permanent homes. MEOW Foundation is also integral in providing cat care info and spay/neuter education to its Calgary residents.
The wonderful thing is when an applicant is approved they can bring the cat home for a trial visit, and Meow workers check in periodically to see if the marriage has been successful. This ensures that both the pet and the adopters are happy.
Meow also provides an online cat-alogue where you can see what cat is available to adopt; they have different categories, short to long, adults to kittens. This is always updated and the descriptions are always witty and informative.
I want to meet the cat namer at Meow; their work is really cut out for them.
