I love love love this store. It's just so different from other boutiquey shops and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I love that I can get crickets for my frogs in all different sizes here as well as awesome stuff for my dogs at a good price.
I love it. Menagerie is going to be around for ever. -

I love this store.
I have a corn snake and need to buy frozen mice on a regular basis. While trying to find a pet store that is reasonable close to either home or work, I found Menagerie.
So far I have been there twice and each time I left very happy.
Their prices are fair.
I've bought food and accessories for both my snake and my bunny and from what I have seen the items for other pets won't break the bank either.
What I really like though is the staff.
Everybody I've met was not only super nice, but also gives you the impression that they really like to work at the store.
And they know their stuff!
Last time I went, I had some questions in regards to my snake's feeding habits. The staff member I talked to had all the answers and even showed me one of their snakes to help me understand better.
Thumbs up for that!
This is my go-to pet store now. :) -

I have to say if you buy just food here, I am sure this place is OK. I have however purchased many pieces of equipment over time and will never buy accessories or main items from them.
I bought a aquarium time feeder so I could feed my fish while I was gone. I bought it from them, returned it the next day because I got the wrong one, but somewhere along the way, it got used. They wouldn't take it back because it appeared to be used. They sold it to me used then? How is this ok?
I also bought filters for my aquarium filter, but in my mistake I bought the wrong ones. I went to return those as well. Guess what... again they were used!! They wouldn't take them back. At this point it's getting ridiculous.
I bought 2 angel fish from here too. I asked when I bought them if I could return them once my tank was broken in. Brought them back - for free. Nope, wouldn't take them. So buyer beware when you buy from here. Buy knowing that you never have to return it, because if you try to return it, they will label it was being used. -

This is my favourite pet store in the city. The people who work there are all very friendly and they seem to know a lot about animals that aren't just cats and dogs. I have a pet rabbit and used to have a pet chinchilla, and I find that most pet store employees only know about cats and dogs.
The giant iguana on the roof was the first signal to me that I was going to like this pet store. It is smallish, so they don't have a massive selection, but they do carry good quality products for your pet. -

This is an excellent place to get your exotic fish. My boyfriend could spend hours lost in the back of Menagerie's fish section, picking out which guppies he wants. The fish here are usually healthy, sparing us from a total aquarium disease infestation (which has happened with fish from other places) and their prices for aquarium accessories (filters, etc) are decent. They have also expanded their plant selection, offering a huge variety of underwater plants.
Their reptile and bird sections shouldn't go unvisited, either. Although the birds can get quite noisy at times, they're still cute and still deserve a little 'hello'.
They also have a cat and dog department with tons of toys, treats, accessories, food, etc. No cats or dogs for sale here, but the Humane Society isn't too far away!
The staff here are very friendly and knowledgeable, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask them.
It's on the other end of the city, but we still make the drive out there.Listed in: Pet Friendly

Not at all what i expected. I was worked up to believe that the menagerie was simply amazing, but when i got there it was a totally different story. When it came to the organization of the place I wasn't impressed. The lay out was confusing and the store wasn't in great shape. As for the staff, they seemed less then impressed with their job. The only think I liked was the talking birds :) .
Wasn't worth going out of my way to see, nor the parking money. -

Their inventory is a lot more diverse than most pet shops in the area! The staff is friendly & knowledgeable, & if they don't know the answer they will find it for you.
I would recommend price-shopping a bit, though - some of their stock is a great value, but some is priced higher than other stores. Overall, a happy, well-stocked, VERY useful place! -

I wanted a fish! And after lots of searching, this seemed to be the only pet shop in my area.
The staff knew their stuff, from Ethan the Snake Guy and Harold the Fish Guy. Another Fish Guy, we never learnt his name, was also helpful. It's understandable that he couldn't always stand close by as my friend and I were staring at the wall of fish tanks without a clue, but it would have been nice to receive a little more attention. Or more Fish Guys?
The search for our fishies was all about finding out what we can and cannot provide for. Turns out, not much. We didn't want beta fish because everyone gets them. We couldn't handle the salt water fish, too fussy. We spent at least an hour to decipher which fish, how many, how big would they get, what tank to get, filters, what colour gravel at the bottom, what little playthings to stick in.
Yet, after all that time spent picking out the five different fish I would get and all the above, Fish Guy unloads one. If I want these fish, I have to take home the tank and wait a couple weeks for the thing to build up bacteria.
Why did I want a fish? Something to take care of. Something that is allowed in my building. Cool to watch. Naming it is always fun. Walk out of that place with a smile, a clear plastic bag of water and some living things swimming around in it.
TWO WEEKS??? Fish Guy, you should have said it sooner. I'm a little disappointed.
We wanted a one stop shop. So we turned back to the beta fish, the ones that we wrote off for being cliché. Really, they are the only fish we can/care to support. We can take them right home, set up our beta fish tanks and pop them in. And it's still kind of fun to pick them out because there are various types. So we do.
And we name them Ethan and Harold. Sorry, other Fish Guy.Listed in: The Town of Cabbage

While it place isn't a high end doggie boutique, it's the ONLY place in the city that sells crickets, heat lamps, pinkies, and other reptile supplies.
They're open to negotiate bulk buying, too, which helps for those reptilian keepers in Toronto.
They don't sell dogs/cats (thank god), but do have everything you'll need for a healthy pet. -

LOVE the Menagerie. I used to get all my cat food there, and often, I'd go just to look around. It's like going to a mini zoo. Fish galore, exotic reptiles of all shapes and sizes, parrots...and two lovely little cats who live on the premises and always let you pet them.
The manager is a great guy, knows his stuff, and will make you a deal if you're a regular. I also know one of the staff personally.
But I no longer go. Why? Because my little cat Minnie, bless her soul, no longer likes friggin' quality food, and only wants crap. The Menagerie sells only top quality food.
Bad Minnie, bad!Listed in: Businesses

Countercultural. Hip. Expert. Diverse. Comfortable. Approachable.
If Menagerie ever closed, I would fall into a tailspin. I can think of no other place in the city where I'd be able to easily find, much less want to have to look for, supplies for my snake. True, quality cat gear and treats can easily be had from many other pet shops, but when you enjoy more unusual critters in your home, it's important to know that the people you go to for your goods are on the same page as you are and genuinely know what the hell they are talking about.
Besides, how you can not love a store featuring a giant iguana on the roof? Or that gets support from the bondage underground? Or that has its own in-store pets who love to cuddle? -

This weekend I impulsively decided to save some tadpoles from CERTAIN DEATH. Thus today I took myself first to another pet store (which had nothing for me) and then to Menagerie to buy gravel, plants and a net. I'd raised tadpoles back home but wasn't too sure if the requirements of the Canadian variety differed so I was pleased to walk into Menagerie and find it ridiculously well stocked both with products for amphibians and with resident experts. The reptile/amphibian expert was helping another customer (at length) and was unable to help me, though a very nice fish expert came to my aid and helped me choose what I needed. My spermatozoidy friends seem pleased with their new environment and I felt the service was great and the cost very reasonable.
Also, I appreciate going into a pet store and finding that they don't sell dogs or cats. The Humane Society is, after all, full of cats and dogs that originally came from pet stores. -

Nice selection and they carry extra-large bags of premium quality dog food (which is more than I can say for most little pet boutiques). However, the people working there were a little less than friendly and I honestly felt a little uncomfortable in the store -- at least, when I visited this evening. Maybe I'm not hip and cool enough, or maybe I'd get better treatment if I were buying ferret food. Oh, well.

This is my default second choice place if my regular store doesn't have what I need. They have a good selection of dog & cat toys and accessories as well as rodents, birds, and fish. The staff are always friendly and helpful whenever I come in with my pups. There prices are a little steeper than the chain stores though.

I definitely have a love-hate relationship with pet stores. I
love animals and seeing them and interacting with them but since
I am in love with someone who is very allergic to pretty much anything with
fur this means that I have to go to pet stores to get my animal fix.
Menagerie is a very big pet store, although I will admit that it looks
much larger from the outside than the inside. The store has an extensive
bird collection which I was very impressed by and if you go towards the
back you will find a very chatty parrot and let's be honest who doesn't
like having a conversation with a parrot. The one thing the store does
lack is any sort of large mammal. They have rodents but no cats or
dogs. This to me is a loss because puppies and kittens are some of the
best reasons to go into a pet store. The reason I do have a bit of a
hate relationship with pet stores is that I believe that even well cared
for animals (especially birds) are not suited at all for captivity. In
the back with my chatty parrot was another parrot who had pulled off all
of his feathers and I hate to see things like that. I would recommend
this pet store for anyone looking to add a winged member of the family
because their selection really is great and their birds are beautiful.

i really love this pet store. the staff really know what they are talking about, and are really helpful. (plus the boy staff are cute.) they carry alot of products that are hard to find elsewhere. and really the prices aren't that bad, imo, according to the high quality products they sell. they have birds, fish, reptiles, small animals. and everything you would need for them as well as dog and cat food/product/stuff.
