Great place to buy computer parts. Check the store stock for what you want online, then go to the store and you're in and out in minutes.
Their return policy is great - since I've bought so much here, I've had a few times when I've wanted to return something and they've always been decent about it and have made it a fairly painless experience.
Their warranty service is not as good. I had some RAM go bad under the extended warranty from them. I tested it at home to make sure it was bad, then took it in. I told them how I had tested it, they told me that they test RAM the exact same way, but would have to run their test to confirm. I said okay, knowing that it was a 10-minute test and I would likely be able to come get my new RAM the next day. Days went by before I phoned and asked about any progress. A few more days went by before they got to it. When purchasing the extended warranty they say it's much faster than sending it to the manufacturer, but in this case it wasn't faster by much.
I've walked in with wanting to purchase a laptop in the back of my mind, and they rarely have up-to-date demo units running, let alone demo units running at all. As others mentioned, salespeople will rarely ask if you need help or are looking for something in particular (most people come in knowing what they want, so this is perhaps forgivable), which doesn't really work for someone mulling a laptop purchase.
Also, they expanded into selling TVs, which seems like an odd fit for a place that's largely "come in and get the specific part you already know you want". Any time I've browsed their TVs, no salesperson has approached me (not sure if this is good or bad) and I haven't been impressed by their selection or how they display TVs (they do not have the right space/lighting/etc to demo TVs).
If you want a computer part or accessory and you know what you want, this is a great place to go. Beyond that, you're likely to receive more help online or at Best Buy. -

The main reason for my visit to day was to buy a laptop with a US KEYBOARD. Most of the bigger chains only sell laptops with an internationalized keyboard that incredibly annoying for those of us that type 80 wpm.
There were laptops on display but, as has already been mentioned, no one around to demo them. I had to go to the counter and wait in line.
Near the front door was advertising about financing. When I asked the sales guy he told me no financing was available. Had financing been available I would likely have walked out with a brand new laptop. Instead I have now decided on a brand (Asus) and am continuing my search.
I did buy a 750 GB hard drive for another machine. The drive has a 5 year warranty which is exceptional. This is a benefit of Western Digital, not Memory Express. In spite of this, the sales guy still tried to upsell me on the 4 year extended store warranty. Annoying.
Let's think about this for a moment...
I am purchasing an internal hard drive that I have to install myself. Chances are I am a) somewhat technical and b) quite okay dealing with the manufacturer if something fails.
Do you have to lose IQ points to get into sales or what? Extended warranty is usually a waste of money and this guy was promoting it fairly aggressively.
Points lost for advertising financing when none was available and for flogging an extended warranty that is worse than the factory warranty. If it weren't for excellent selection, good pricing, and good experiences on previous visits, this would be two stars.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Anything to do with computers, this is the place to go. Reason being, its very cheap cause you can price match with any competitor even online stores. It's what i do all the time, price matching whats in store to http://ncix.com and i save a lot, plus they have IPR (instant product replacement) plans, which are pretty good, if you know when to get it depending on what you are buying. I remember buying a mouse about a year ago, and the IPR plan was $3 extra, in 2 weeks my mouse button caved in, brought it back and got a brand new one right away!!!

Came here during a new laptop purchasing adventure I went on recently. Not knowing much about computers I walked over to that section of the store and looked around for a few minutes hoping someone would notice me and come over to help. Nope...although the store didn't seem overly busy at the time no one seemed to be around...or they were busy small talking in the back. I had been to a few stores prior to this one so I was just trying to compare prices however, the prices were not displayed. After waiting around for another few minutes I just got bored/annoyed and left. I did notice that the prices seemed a little lower here than at the other places I had been that day (I noticed a 50" TV that was priced over $1000 lower than visions). I guess I would come back if I was looking to compare prices again in the future - never hurts to check, right?!

Over the past few years I've bought more computer products from Memory Express than I have online. Their prices are often (but not always) cheaper than ordering online, and you can get pick it up and bring it home in less than an hour.
The other night I rushed out to Memory Express to pick up a cable I needed, and I arrived there 5 minutes before closing. The salesperson didn't rush me, and was pretty chatty as well. I got to the store, bought the cable, and made it home in less than 30 mins. Awesome! -

I feel so stupid for having not known about this place before. I've overpaid for cables and accessories from such places as Best Buy and Future Shop for so long now.
All I needed was an HDMI cable for my new surround sound and all it cost me was 19.99. I was blown away by their wholesale selection of electronic accessories.
From now on this will be my first stop for anything electronic. -

So I dont know anything about computers so when mine when on the fritz...all computer expereienced individuals told me memory express is your answer. Hell sure enough it was I took it to the shop to get it fixed and well they quoted me a while just to cover their butts in case is my guess because it was ready the next day. Very professional and was busy. If its busy that means somethings right. Check it out.

For all computer and nerd related needs, go to Memory Express.
Their prices are very competitive and I've actually used them (NCIX and Newegg as well) for price matching against Best Buy and Futureshop.
Even if you're one of those newbies when it comes to computers and actually care about where your money goes to when you're looking for anything computer related, the staff there are pretty helpful to point you in the right direction and even give you good recommendations: why I should pay an extra $5 dollars to get twice the harddrive space and I wouldn't need the full benefits of a Caviar Black line of harddrives.
Highly recommended if you need upgrade parts or memory sticks and even recordable media. -

Geek heaven. If you want to know what the afterlife looks like for the guy you get when you call the help desk, drop in here. If you want to build a computer from scratch, these guys have all the parts. Putting together home WiFi, you'll be boggled by the choices. The only way mere humans can navigate here is that the staff are all really knowledgeable and really really helpful in translating techy into English.
Pretty much any component for PC computers are on the shelf. I'm talking cases, fans, motherboards, video and sound cards, optical drives, wiring, power supply and even lighting effects for the bling factor. They also sell digital still and video cameras, universal remotes, and Acer and ASUS laptops. This visit I notice they've gone much more heavily into TVs. Not just any TVs, but the ultra thin LED and 3D models. Prices are good, but electronics are really competitive so it still pays to shop around. -

Memory Express is a pretty awesome for computers and other electronics. The store is pretty big, mostly it's filled computer accessories and some display models of laptops, computers, and TVs. You really need to check out their website to shop their stock, which is extensive.
I've found some really great deals here on laptops, accessories, and LCD monitors. You can pretty much find anything that is related to computers here and some really good brands like Toshiba and LG; however, they do carry some more economical brands as well. Other electronics they are sell cameras, MP3 players, and projectors. Once you find what you're looking for on the website, you can call and have them hold the item for you and pick it up at the store.
The return policy is great here too. I actually bought an LCD monitor here, but I didn't like it and wanted to return it. Even though the box was opened and I had used it for a week, they took it back, no problem! I was really impressed by that.
It's best to keep checking their website, because deals keep changing. Some of the deals are so good that stock sells out really fast though. This place is on the Southside, which has never been convenient for me, but I'm really happy that there's a Northside location opening soon!
The staff here are also very knowledgeable, so if you're not the most savvy when it comes to computers or other electronics, these guys will totally help you out. -
Review from Cherie K.
My husband and I have been researching computers for my son and called both Memory Express locations to inquire. The north location is closer, so we called them first. We had a fairly good idea of what we wanted, we just needed some details. The sales staff at the north location were not very helpful and when asked if they'd price match they said they couldn't, because the models were slightly different. So rather than provide an alternative, they simply stuck their heels in and lost us as customers. We called the south location-completely different experience. The staff were polite, helpful, and willing to price match! We went there and bought exactly what we wanted. Also great warranty prices.

For all of my computer needs, I always check with Memory Express. They are one of the few companies in Edmonton that allow you to build a computer from scratch for your specific needs. Being a gamer I needed something powerful and up to date- something that was not offered at some of the big box electronic stores.
The staff are fantastic here. Their training and knowledge of computer components is very apparent, and they often make recommendations and check compatibility when you're building your own computer. Luckily I had a friend who has experience building computers to help me, but I know Memory Express offers an assembly service as well.
They also have very competitive prices on monitors, televisions, and laptops. Their selection of laptops is not very great, although I found their net-book prices to be quite competitive against those from other electronic stores.
I trust the service offered by Memory Express. Whenever one of my computer components fails, I simply go to Memory Express for a new part, and swap is in right away. Their product list is up to date, and I find myself often browsing their site looking to see the latest components I can upgrade my computer with. -

I haven't come across a store like this in Edmonton before.
They have everything you would need to build your own computer and if you don't know how to build your own computer (like me) they will make it for you. All you have to do is pick out what you want. Most brand name computers are built so poorly these days. I know many people who have just gotten new computers and they experience some kind of errors with them already.
Memory Express allows you to get your own computer built, how you want it and no extra bull. It is probably adored by gamers. -

If you are looking to make your own computer from scratch, Memory Express has all the parts you will need for that. This store differs from Future Shop and Best Buy dramatically. These two electronics giants have an array of products but weak customer service. Memory express is not stocked as nicely but the customer service is definitely on the level. The guys who work there know computers in and out, and are glad to assist you and make great recommendations. Memory Express has a large online catalog from which they can order any product your computer loving heart may desire. There is also a repair service on site, where your computer problems will be attended to in a timely manner. In addition to everything computers, Memory Express carries TVs, car audio and other electronics. Recently, the store opened its second location on the North side of Edmonton.

If you build your own computer this is the only place in town to buy your components, according to my partner, who is a former gaming-geek. (And now just a wee one!) Here they will put together the computers for you if you don't know how to build your own. They have the best prices on components - processor, hard drive, mother board, video/sound cards, RAM, etc. - so, for gamers who demand performance, this is a sure way to make your graphics look awesome and that your game plays at top quality.
At your average component store they expect you to know everything about computers, and if you don't they talk down to you or treat you like a fool. At Memory Express, you need to know a bit about what you're doing, but they're very helpful at answering questions in semi-layman's terms. Another plus: they have everything right there on the shelves. If you ask for it, you'll have it in 30 seconds and won't need to order it in. Great prices, great service. -
