I love this place for its spiked drinks, specifically its Irish coffee. It has a bunch of spiked cappuccino and hot chocolate-flavoured drinks, both spiked and virgin, as well as a number of spiked and virgin smoothies for the summer.
I'm never in Ottawa during the summer months, but there's a seating area outside with a bunch of chairs and tables -- I'd love to sit there on a hot day with a spiked smoothie!
The inside is pretty cute, but there are a limited number of tables and it's a bit cramped, making it a little awkward when you accidentally make eye contact with a random couple out on a date.
The servers are polite, but not overly friendly, and seem to expect you to order more than just a drink. Don't feel obligated to buy food, but I'm not going to tell you not to order a piece of carrot cake -- wow, they do a good job. I hear their dinner menu is also fabulous, but that's something I have yet to try.
I just realized how awesome Memories would be for a Valentines Day date... -

Having lived in the market for a few years, I have had several lunches at Memories, a quaint little place in the heart of the market. It is hard to decide what type of year I enjoy Memories the most. In the summer, the refreshing iced coffees and garden salad with strawberry dressing can be a highlight of a warm summer day. That being said, a hearty bowl of lentil soup and a bowl (yes..a bowl!) of hot chocolate warm the belly on blistering cold Ottawa winter days.
Regardless of the season, their dessert menu is extremely inciting. I always tell myself that "I am not going to have dessert this time", but succumb to the massive slices of cake, pie and cheesecake.
While the portions are always large, and the food fresh and delicious, the small menu may grow bland to a frequent diner. With only a few items and only two sides (a choice of soup of the day or garden salad) I would not recommend that patrons visit memories too often, in order to avoid losing an appreciation for the good quality food. -

Four words: Milk Chocolate Hazelnut Cheesecake.
I have eaten cheesecake all around the world and have yet to find a milk chocolate cheesecake as awesome as here.
The caramel nut latte is also great, albeit very sweet. And the rest of the menu does have some nice sandwiches, etc. as other reviewers have mentioned. -

This is a quaint and cozy restaurant specializing in delicious desserts, including a wide variety of pies and cheesecakes. They also sell tea, coffee, alcohol, sandwiches, quiche and soup. The food is delicious and moderately priced and you can enjoy it on their patio as you linger in a quiet dreamy corner of the ByWard Market. This is a wonderful place to take another person you've been meaning to catch up with or a new person you want to learn more about.
I highly suggest the chocolate peanut butter cheesecake.
