Not the place to do a regular grocery shopping.  But certainly the place to buy some incredible prepared foods.  They should be incredible given the fact that the founder is an amazing chef!

It is my local "Whole Foods" but the fact that it is independently owned gives it lots more weight. I love to support local business and Meinhardt Cafe will get my hard earned dollar when I want to be lazy and get something delicious to go.

A nice spot to grab a bite to eat or meet up for a chat. Very modern decor which makes it an impressive hangout location, though the ambiance is not exactly inviting or warm.

The food is always good quality and makes for a good grab-and-heat-up-later lunch if you stop by on your way to work. The wraps are fairly sizable and make for a filling meal.

Coffee is decent but not particularly gourmet. (Kind of like the service and attitude of the girls behind the counter, actually.)

Lookout for whatever their current promotion is. Sometimes it's a cheap latte, or free coffee with purchase of a slice of cake, etc.

A avocado shrimp pita, ginger snap cookie and a coffee, all for under $10. A great bright open space, with a long communal table, with fresh cut flowers.

The avocade shrimp pita was delicious, and a perfect mid day snack. Ginger snap cookie and self serve coffee was a bonus too. I enjoyed my time here alone, flipping through the papers and making the most of this 'me-time.'

They also have many items that Meinhardt's carries, the curries, wraps, sandwiches, and of course, the delicious pastries and cakes. It's tempting not to get just one slice.

Have been to Picnic (now re-named Meinhardt's Cafe) many times and it is great.  Quality food, great decor, good execution and some of my favorite pastries in Vancouver from Meinhardts next door.

The only issue I have is I would like a bit better cappuccino execution.  It was overheated at about 180 degrees and was bitter.  Will have to make sure to tell them specifically next time.

I have had a whole array of food including the curries, sandwiches, salads, lots of desserts and have never had something that I didn't like.  Yesterday we had the Butter Chicken Curry which was amazing and a Vegetarian Lentil Stew over Basamati rice (not quite as amazing but good).  The side salads are tossed, balanced and tasty.  We had the green beans which were cooked right and spiced right.

Prices are mid to mid-high consistent with Meinhardts Fine Foods typical pricing but not over the top.

The decor is dominated by high ceilings and a large marble topped communal table down the middle.  Minimal and really well executed.  Highly recommended for South Granville dining and worth the walk up the street.

Great place to grab a quick lunch for under $10. Their open faced shrimp sandwich - with abundant shrimps is my favorite ! They also have a great variety of salads which they keep rotating on a daily basis. For under $5 the salad is very filling and tasty.

They also have a great selection of desserts and usually have daily deals like free coffee with a slice of cake, or free cookie with a sandiwich+soup. So those are good to look out for.

The seating area is one long communal table with cheery fresh flowers and if you go at around 1 pm its usually not too crowded. So glad I discovered this hidden cafe !

Well a true yelp success! I am working in the area and was looking for a quick sandwich and this place popped up. In all my years i have never ventured into this place even though the pastries in the window tried hard to seduce me several times.
The sandwiches were all reasonably priced and to top it off possibly the best breakfast wrap in town is here! At $4.95 too! The cakes all looked heavenly. I loved the long picnic bench. Staff was friendly, and service was quick.

Walking in the door, I was gobsmacked by the display case. It's not as if I'd never seen a display case before, and I've been ordering and eating food all my life, but Picnic's cheesecakes, cookies, sandwiches, and macaroni and cheese, even, were all so gorgeous, I couldn't even decide. It was like Donna Hay exploded in there or something.

Minutes ticked by while I tried to form something of a coherent order to give the staff standing patiently by. I felt like a kid off the farm who just walked into her first carnival midway. I took a chance on the open-faced shrimp sandwich and a raspberry jelly cookie from the window.

Oh, but it was divine to sit in that big bright room, at the communal table, and eat my treats while reading a paper. The lunch rush hadn't hit yet - loads of room for my elbows. The last time I was here was during the Christmas shopping rush, when my companion and I had to perch on the end and practically eat our sandwiches on top of the newspapers.

The shrimp sandwich was good and generously heaped with shrimp - not just sprinkled with a few token ones like many cafes do. But my cookie was definitely the best part. Don't you worry, Picnic, I shall return for another helping. We've got a lot of display case to go through, you and I.

Picnic is located on the fashionable South Granville strip. Here you'll find a spectacular Willy-Wonker-esqe array of yummy goodies to choose from. Cheesecakes, muffins, cupcakes, cookies (try the almond and chocolate cookie; it is divine), lemon tarts, and various cakes beckon from behind the display glass. My favourite goodie from Picnic is Meinhardt's signature "grind bar". I never leave without one (be sure to get the one with chocolate). There are also salads, wraps, English muffins with Cheddar cheese and egg, and sandwiches if you're after a savoury meal. And when it comes to drinks choose from a diversity of coffee concoctions, juices, or teas.

The interior of Picnic is a little stark, with white tiled walls, high ceiling, and a long marble table that runs the length of the café, but this has never bothered me. It's modern, but never feels "cold". Sit inside at a table and read one of the newspapers that are scattered about, or perch yourself outside at a small table where you can overlook the happenings on Granville.

I really like the German feel to this cafe. The sandwiches are yummy, the  Orzu salad is my favourite though. I mostly go here for lunch and like siting at the long white table and making friends with my neighbours. It is definitely not cheap but then again good quality ingredients never are!

Inconveniently located near Ouisi Bistro and Misch, Picnic's dessert display makes it nearly impossible to continue with your journey for fear of either being too full to eat in the former's case or too stuffed to wear their beautiful wares in the latter's.

Adjacent to gourmet grocery store, Meinhardt, Picnic's food is enough to tempt even the overly full. Cookies decorated with entire layers of macadamia nuts, pink frosted cupcakes that would put Cupcakes on Denman to shame, cakes so beautiful.... I'm tempted to forgo tonight's dinner just so I can have another taste of Picnic's wonderful baked goods.

Three words: Crazy Good Sandwich. It really is crazy good. Grilled cheese on nice crusty bread served with maple syrup. You don't know what you're missing till you've had it.

Does anyone remember when Picnic first hit the scene about 7 years ago?   I do, and I think in my opinion the selection of delicious treats, cakes and don't forget the chocolate mouse was exceptionally better than the selection they have today.  It is however a great place to stop by and get a great American  while shopping your heart out through south Granville.

Nice bistro-esque place in south granville.  Mostly sandwiches which are served with a side salad, they also offer other items like quiche and lasagna.  I also got the mushroom soup which is pretty fabulous.  The dining area sports an almost communal table, reminscent of a picnic table hence the name.  Nice modern decor and feel.  A good place for a quiet simple lunch.

Picnic is the café and eatery attached to the upscale grocery store, Meinhardt.  You'll love the coffee they serve as it is always strong and hot.  They also have a good range of edibles that you choose from a display and they bring to your table.  They make especially nice salads and pastas, and sandwiches, and the desserts look delicious!  The atmosphere can be a bit on the noisy side if it's crowded, and I find the comfy chairs comfy, but they are strangely incompatible with the tables that go with them; you kind of have to lean far over your food.  Still, it's nice to come here on a weekend to read the paper and enjoy a hot drink.  There are a few small tables outside on the sidewalk, too.
