During my short time working in Macau, I became spoiled by the endless food stalls and stores that were selling the dried beef / pork (Mando: rougan Canto: yukgon). It's the closest thing to western style beef jerky, usually available in sweet and salty form, and presented in sheets that are always in great demand. The ones here at Mei Jan Hong are as close to the ones in Asia as I've seen and are simply delicious.

Located inside the beastliest Asian mall of them all, the Aberdeen Centre, Mei Jan Hong is located on the corner of the first level. It's clean, small, and totally reeking of the odors of cured meat that most lovers of this snack can appreciate. Prices aren't absurdly cheap (then again, what is in Vancouver/Richmond?) but at roughly $18 a pound, this makes for a great gift and a pseudo expensive, but addicting snack.

I used to sample the hell out of this place, asking for all sorts of little cuts that were freshly made and cured. While I have a soft spot for the salty beef, I am a bigger fan of the sugary, yet spicy pork. Some people would confuse it for a drier char siu, but I contend it is a far superior porky product.

There is also seafood versions of this dried meat, namely the salmon, which is also available in salty and sweet. Same goes for the chicken and squid. While I am not a huge fan of these choices, they are better than nothing when the place runs out of meat (which happens on occasion).

The ladies who run this place couldn't be any nicer. It is easier to speak to them in Canto, but it seems they're good at helping people choose a pack that works for them. They're generous on the samples, quick at getting back to folks via the phone, and are always upbeat with smiles that can't be beat.

Came here with my eager boyfriend, giddy with excitement. He had this type of fresh jerky when he was in Singapore and wanted to see if it was similar to his experience back in the east.

We tried both the sweet and spicy pork jerky. For 1/4 lbs it costs $4.50. The spicy pork jerky was soft, tender, and you didn't get any stuck between your teeth, which is attractive. The pork tasted sweet with a hint of spice and had a pleasant smokey taste. It didn't leave my fingers sticky either like some asian jerkies, which meant a lot of the flavours were already infused with this meat.

It was interesting because we had two slices of sweet pork jerky but I found they tasted different from each other. Probably because they were dried and marinated differently? I'm not sure, but I liked the spicy one more (even though i can't handle spice, this one was delicious and well-balanced).

One thing I noticed was the smell of the jerky. It had a slightly off-putting smell, but that was due to the fish sauce/oil that was probably used. However, that fish oil made this dried meat addictive and worth the slight smell.

Only downside, it would've tasted better if it were warmed up, like how it's given in Singapore. Regardless, so much better and worth the extra money, than that pre-package jerky in those red boxes.

Decided to try out this beef jerky place since I'd never seen it before. I picked up several packages of beef and pork jerky which I pre-ordered over the phone, and the service was fast and friendly. They had my order ready to go right when I got there, which was perfect! I wish I had remembered that they also had chicken and salmon jerky, I'll have to go back and try those next time.

The meat is delicious here - tender and very well seasoned. I love the spicy flavour as well, it's got a good kick to it. The shop is fairly new, so the store front is clean and modern. If there are people in front, be prepared to wait a bit, since they package everything when ordered and it may take a while.

But they'll tell you right away if they're out of stock on something, and if they need to cook it up, they'll give you a time estimate as to when your order can be ready so you can decide whether to come back later or just make a trip another day.

Another bonus - they have hard and soft jerky for their pork variety, and the owner said I could get a mix of both in each of my 0.5lb packages so that there would be variety. Perfect for gifting to the relatives!

At $18/lb, it's a pretty good deal since other places are usually $20. Cash only, and they open late on weekdays (9pm!)

They have the beef and pork jerky that I have eve had in North America. They even have chicken and salmon Jerky! It tasted very fresh.  I am not a big fan of American beef jerky as it is too dry, hard and salty for me. Their meat is just about right. I just can stop eating them! Love it!

Their jerky is to die for.  Of the flavours offered, my favorite is the soft, spicy pork jerky.  I first tried their jerky in the summer and have not been able to stop eating it since.  As a bonus, there are always pretty girls working there.  Definitely swing by Mei Jan Hong if you're in the neighbourhood.  A++ will buy again

Excellent Singaporean style beef jerky specialist. This stuff is addictive!  It is the crack of the meat world.  They should have some pushers giving out samples to vegetarians to hook them!
