I'm from Madison, WI and was in town for business.  When traveling, I like to try local pizza places and found myself one block from Granville St, a place with many late night pizza places.

My goal however was not a late night, after bar meal, but rather dinner I could take back to the hotel.  Megabite didn't originally show up on my search for highly rated pizza places, but both people at the front-desk indicated this was their favorite pizza place.

Given the 3 star avg review that Yelp showed and a number of 2 star reviews, I was a bit hesitant, but decided to go with it.

I ordered the pizza and wings special.  Specifically the Fire Pizza and Hot Wings.  I actually enjoyed both.  Now this is not the kind of place you go to , expecting to have a gourmet wood oven Italian style pizza, but if you're looking for a good tasting pizza, I would definitely recommend this any time.

Also, after eating the pizza and thinking about the existing reviews, I think I might know where some of the problem comes from.  I think many of the reviews are from customers who stop in and order by the slice.  Obviously, those slices are under warmer lamps and are just waiting for the right customer to come along.  Which overall is probably not the best way to get fresh, hot pizza.

One of numerous $1.56 + tax a slice pizza chains open in Vancouver, Megabite had a few pizzas to choose from. The same price applies for cheese, veggie and meat pizza. They put your pizza on a paper plate for you without reheating it.

    * Veggie pizza: crust was medium thickness, uniform height, and soft (not floppy, not crispy) with fresh spinach, fresh tomatoes, red onions, and unmelted cheese on top. The sauce was sweet like a spaghetti sauce. The crust had sesame seeds on the outer crust. Strange pizza....not horrible but not good either. I didn't understand the unmelted cheese on top, sesame seeds on the crust, and how people add hot sauce to the pizza. Guess it's pizza, Vancouver style.

They say their pizza is fresh never frozen...I've had better frozen pizza but for under $2 a slice, it's hard to complain. If they charged more than $3 for the slice, I'd give them 2 stars.

You can also order whole pizzas and appetizers (e.g., poutine). It's open till 4 AM...I think they charge more for late night pizza slices.

$2.50 a slice?  WTF?  That's really expensive.  Is this their late-night rape price?

No one gives a shit about how good the pizza is - everyone is drunk.  If you can stand the douchebaggery in this joint after the clubs close down - the entertainment here is hilarious.

It's full of bros and overly-excited drunk girls that want like to interject into your inane rants and wants a high-five... think about that for a second, "I just overheard what you said and I agree.  I believe you are a fine gentleman of the highest calibre.  Now let's commence with the the slapping of open hands above our heads".  You can initiate this conversation by loudly stating, "_________ sucks/rocks!"

It's a thin line between friendly drunks that want to shoot the shit and bros that think you're hitting on their 'gurrrl' because you're within a 5 feet radius of her.  Any guy with a girl is desperately clinging onto her, lest she be seduced by another suitor with $2.50 in his pocket.  Anyone that struck out at the club is prowling for 'salvage booty'.

It's the zoo on Granville - there's a lineup and concessions are expensive (once again - $2.50 for a slice of ghetto pizza).  The primates might as well be hurling feces.  The only difference: you don't know which side of the cage you're on.

What the hell happened, Megabite?  My memories of delicious, cheesey, hot pizza is no more!

This was my go-to late night pizza joint after stumbling out of a bar or friend's apartment for years.  The last 2 times I have had the opportunity to eat here, I was left unsatisfied.  The slices seem to be thinner, cardboard-like and it's not even hot!  Come on guys...

So sad.. this place definitely went down hill.

I am a fast food pizza junkie and i don't care who knows it anymore!  There used to be some good ones in town, like Pizza Guys and Gigi's, but Pizza Guys shut down and Gigi's just isn't that great anymore and they're expensive for what you're getting.

So we settled for Panago's for awhile, but you really might as well just go to McDonalds and beg them to resurrect the McPizza.

Then we found Megabite Pizza.  Sesame seeds sprinkled on the crust, and REAL bacon offered as a topping where they don't cheap out when you actually order it!

It's cheap and it's fast and it serves it's purpose - getting you disgustingly full after a late night at the bar and filling you up again in the morning while you recover from your worst hangover ever.

Once, when I first moved to Vancouver, I got in a cab with some friends after the bar and when the driver said "where to?", one of us, who had had an impressive amount to drink for her size, said "take us to pizza!"  The driver just nodded and started driving.

Then my friend leaned forward and said "STOP!  Take us to pizza...  WITH DIPPING SAUCE!!"  The cab driver didn't say anything this time, but he immediately spun a quick u-turn, screeching tires and sending pedestrians scrambling, and took us directly to this Megabite.  And they did, in fact, have dipping sauce.

That was 4 years ago.  Now, the slices have gotten noticeably smaller (but the price hasn't risen as fast as elsewhere: a daytime slice will cost you $1.75 incl tax).  At this size, it's barely a deal any more.  Two slices now cost as much as a California roll, which is healthier and tastier and about as much food.  Also, after all the pizza places went through a toppings revolution a couple of years ago, Megabite has lost its creativity.  It's the same varieties on the counter every time I go in there (and sometimes it looks like the same actual pizzas as the previous time).

There are much better pizza slice places on this strip, and I think I will start checking them out more.

As one of Vancouver's cheap pizza chains, this one brings in the bacon on Friday/Saturday nights with the Granville late-night stumblers. It closes at 3pm. It's your typical $2 by the slice pizza that satisfies a need for some hardy grease - comparable to Numero Uno.

My name's Tim, and I actually kind of like Megabite.

Whew. Got that off my chest.

The name put me off for a long time -- seriously, "megabite"? I bet that was clever in, like, 1996. But the unceasing late-night siren call of the glowing neon "PIZZA" sign and the grumbling of my potentially not unintoxicated belly eventually triumphed over my cynical snobbishness, so I grabbed a slice to walk home with and boy am I glad.

Guys: they have *potato* pizza. This is brilliant. The mushroom veggie pizza is also pretty good. The pesto's not even bad. The sesame seed crust is distinctive and, again, actually completely edible -- downright tasty, even. Who knew!? Quality of the slices is even best during high-volume periods because the pies are fresher.

I've found I like Megabite better than any of the other by-the-slice places I've tried, and this particular outlet seems to have some of the best prices. It ain't no fine dinin', but it'll do ya at 2am -- and it won't even suck!

I didn't even have to be drunk to enjoy this pizza! I'm sure it won't be a late night pit stop for me due to its location in the douchebag district on weekends, but for a quick bite on my lunchbreak it filled the cheesy void that I had.

The sesame-bun crust is pretty much perfect, and the plain cheese pizza is super flavourful. After sprinkling a few chili sprinkles on my two slices for a whopping three bucks I was pretty much in a greasy heaven. Sure, it's your typical fast food place where they herd you through like cattle, but as long as you don't have super high expectations of grandeur customer service, you should be pleasantly satisfied.

Just stear clear of this place late at night, since it seems to get occupied by orange whores and their pimps, unless you want a side of puke and herpies.

I read somewhere recently that only about 23% of Americans own a passport and only about 10% of those actually leave the country.

    Thank god.

Ignorance to the world outside of the US keeps the hordes of fat people in my nation far away from crossing paths with the plate of Poutine I ordered on Saturday night. I couldn't even finish it. Wait, scratch that. I couldn't finish HALF of it. How does anyone finish it? Is it meant for a group? I'd pay to see someone finish it alone. I got halfway through and asked myself why I even ordered it. I felt like I was dying with every additional bite. Chowing on fries, gravy and unmelted cheese curds the size of snickers bar is no way to prolong your life.

You might as well chant, "You know what, Heart? I hate you! I really hate you!" with every forkful.

The pizza, though nothing to write home about, was alright. It does the job for a late night snack.

The plus side to this place? People watching. Park your ass in one of the dirty yellow chairs at any of the dirty yellow tables on a Friday or Saturday night and watch what drifts in. You've never seen more friends holding friends up while they order, ass cleavage, beginnings of a brawl, or animal print thongs riding halfway up a back in your life!

This pizza can only possibly be good when intoxicated.

    I wasn't.

I followed the line of people staggering down the sidewalk to get a slice. I needed something to eat. I needed something to entertain me.

I found both. I'm surprised they didn't charge a cover.

You can see just about anything while waiting around here on a late night. Giggly girls. Drunk bros with popped collars. Friends helping friends stumble to the nearest table. Dudes holding their scantily clad ladies close in case someone gets a bright idea and hits on them. It's truly a magical display that you just don't find unless food is involved on a late night.

The pizza reflects its price. It's definitely cheap. It definitely sits under a heat lamp. It definitely leans toward the cardboard crust side of life.

But for $2.95, I had a slice of pizza and a bottle of water and endless entertainment.

When I first moved to Van, I was amazed at the selection of cheap slice pizza. 7 years later, I'm still an avid purchaser, even if prices have come up from the $1/slice.

Megabite has 3 locations, but the one I hit the most is on Granville and Nelson. It gets busier later on, and can be pretty PACKED on weekends. It's decent, cheap thick crust pizza. I think they've got wings and pasta...but then again, I also think they've got 2 of everything...

Sesame seeds on the crust + high turnover = great pizza. Math!

The grease factor is a 9/10, but seriously, if you're in line for a slice at 3am, I doubt you're counting calories. Bonus points for when the grease actually makes the white paper plate clear.

YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY. Does that answer the question?

The pizza tastes great here and so does the chicken wings. And not to mention the reasonable prices also.
Try the ground beef pizza; it has ground beef, blue cheese, red onion and green peppers. Sounds weird but I promise that it's good!

Good for drunk AND sober days/nights. If you have a craving for pizza, this is the place to go

Oh how i love to hate you Megabite! They have seemed to have gone on a frenzy opening and expanding to every street corner so i can't even get away from there pizza! Help!
Who doesn't like to ooze garlicy ranch sauce and hot sauce all over there pizzas? ME!!!!
Yeah well, it's not the best pizza in town but it's good.. and for a 2 slices and pop for $3.50 it seems to fit my budget right now.. not so much my waist though.
One thing is the loud techno music. I don't know how the people work there with that music all day long. Maybe it get's people in and out of there store fast.. but sometimes i think they could really just turn it down.

    Date Visited: Friday 9/10/10 (Dinner)
I walked around and around, trying to find something that looked like a good place to bring a meal back to my hotel room.  After quite a bit of searching, I noticed Megabite Pizza.

I entered and thought it smelled great.  Rather than order slices, I decided on ordering a custom-made pizza.  I ordered a small black olive, artichoke heart, roasted garlic pizza.  I was told it would be 10-15 minutes.  After 15 minutes, I did see what looked like my pizza come out of their little conveyor belt oven.  Unfortunately, there was also someone who had a confused look on her face and was checking it with the receipt.  I am only assuming that someone put the wrong topping(s) on the pizza.  Did they bother to tell me this was the case or that I would have to wait for a whole new pizza to be made?  NO.

I finally walked out of the place about 35 minutes after walking in.  The pizza looked good and I was curious about the white creamy sauce that came with the pizza.  When I got to my room, I quickly opened the box and dipped the pizza in the cream.  It was actually a taste I had never experienced before.  The sesame crust was also a surprise.  I want to say it was better than a 2-star experience, but the fact that no one bothered to explain the issues that seemed to plague my pizza or even apologize for the delay left a bad taste in my mouth.  Thankfully, it wasn't the pizza though.

Not a fan.   I have my fingers crossed that some Italian New Yorkers will move here and make this city fall in love with pizza again.  Love it not what we have right now, it's more like tolerance.  We tolerate Megabite because it looks like pizza, smells like pizza, is served in slices....  It really doesn't take anything close to my favorite pizza.  But it's no worse than any other by the slice pizza place.

This location seems pretty busy.  Sometimes you're forced to eat your food standing up.

Located right in Vancouver's Granville Clubbing district, if the food does make you come back, being drunk will.  With delicious sesame crust pizza, and prices that are cheap enough for you to break all the change burning a whole in your pocket at the end of a night, this place is great.

If Pizza isn't your thing you can also come during the day for chicken wings and lasagna, but honestly I think the last time that place  made anything other than pizza is when they first opened up. Let's be honest here...who the hell goes for lasagna at 4am? Nobody.

Another delicious feature is their garlic white sauce that you can get on the side or from their dispenser.  I hear the secret ingredients are garlic and white.

On a personal note I had a small army of people staying at my place on my birthday, and the Sunday morning after we went out I was pleasantly suprised to see BOXES of Megabite pizza in my kitchen.  That's right...my buddies from out of town were so impressed with the stuff they got into a cab and headed back downtown to grab a couple of FULL pizzas!

Anyways, the location is great and the food (while not winning any awards) will win your heart if you're starving and hungry.

It's not bad pizza, but it doesn't have anything to compete with Numero Uno across the street.

I found Megabite to be small, cramped, and hard to place an order at. In addition, there isn't THAT much selection to choose from. Nonetheless, the pizza will satisfy your taste buds on any given late night. I've never tried Megabite in the day time, but I have a feeling it might feel a lot less sketchier in the day time!

The impending heart attack aside, Megabite is a slice of greasy paradise.

I can't fathom eating this sober, but there are few better caps to a hard night.  There are several locations throughout downtown, conveniently stumbling distance from the club district.

The obvious pies are here.  I recommend branching out, try the pesto chicken, it's a fantastic bite.

Delivery is also prompt within downtown.  Just don't order online.  We did so, waited half an hour, called, and discovered they hadn't even noticed the order.  Evidently they are still working out the kinks of the online ordering process.  Be archaic, make the call.

Wow, I was drunk when this took place.
Wait a minute. I remember now: ok, loud music, lots a sloppy drunk people, a slight ringing sound in my ears that accompanied an unstable wobble when I would stand still for more than 3 seconds. And for the food: lots of colourful pizzas spinning in a see-through carousel. Yea, and the pizza did the trick (as in slightly above average) but the poutine was so sssnasty. Yup, salty-nasty.
Anyone else experience the sssnasty poutine?

I may have mentioned this before, but you know when you're a little tipsy from a few libations on a night out after the bar and you decide to get some nibblies? Inevitably it is pizza and you think it is probably the best pizza you've, like, EVER had? And then when you stop by on a sober day you're shocked that you would consider putting it in your mouth? Well you're in luck, because Megabite ACTUALLY tastes really good!  I have had it sober and otherwise and it is equally tasty either way and there are a million choices. Mmmmm.

Really liked their pizza here...our pizza came sprinkled w/sesame seeds between the crust & the cheese and we really enjoyed the unusual flavoring and texture it added.  We were excited that they had poutine (the reason we came inside in the first place)...but thought the poutine was not that great.  The fries were too well done/crispy, the gravy too salty and the cheese curds a little bit on the stiff side.  My experience w/poutine has always been from the Eastern Canada area so this def did not live up to my expectations.
