Bakery and Pastry doesn't do justice to the variety of products and take-away offered here. They have falafel, baklava, hummus, kibbeh, pickled things and a variety of topped pitas. My favourite is za'atar, having never tried the meat or cheese. One of my first Ottawa experiences was buying a hot pita topped with za'atar on a cool fall day and it was a regular thing for me when I lived near Chinatown.
Being a family operated bakery, their hours are not extensive and can be tricky if you work days. Since the bakery sells wholesale to businesses they offer torn or otherwise damaged pitas for a massive discount, something like $2 for a bag. Cheap and much fresher than the same pita being resold at nearby grocery stores. -

My wife and I lived in the Middle East for many years and one of the local foods we fell in love with is Zaatar - a mixture of olive oil and spices, spread onto fresh baked flat bread. My wife actually missed it more than me (bordering on obsession if you ask me) and so we have stopped in on every Arabic bakery we find to see if they sell it. Finally, we found zaatar bread at Mediterranean Bakery in a little strip plaza on the corner of Alta Vista and Bank (next to Scotia Bank). It is only about $2 for a portion - about the size of a frozen personal pizza. My wife was overjoyed with the authenticity of the taste and we have been back many times to recapture some memories. Thankfully, for me, they sell other Arabic and Lebanese baked goods (like this Arabic flat bread with a soft, mozzerella-like cheese - mmmmm). It is a busy, no-nonsense place but at least you get your food quickly.
