I'm so glad I discovered this place nearby my house.  I'm a huge meat lover and I can't get enough of the awesomeness that this place delivers.  This family run shop cares about what goes into their meat and into your belly.  They take the time to explain or answer any questions, and their passion is really inspiring.

I come here to get grass fed beef in the summer and anti-biotic free in the winter.  Also, I am a huge fan of their sausages.  They are all hand made with no filler and come in all sorts of unique flavours. The blueberry chilli one is my favourite.

The prices are just average, but the quality makes it a real bargain.  These type of places are what make Leslieville so special.

I'm going to add onto the Meating on Queen love-in here.  Went here for the first time and purchased 4 different types of sausages.  The service was friendly and informative.  I was overwhelmed by choice, but the server was patient and helpful!  He was sure to share some cooking instructions with me, which was much appreciated.  The family-run ethos to their service is clearly noticeable.

The sausages were tasty!  Loved that there was no filler and that they were made fresh and in-house.  Our fave was the pork with rosemary and garlic and the pork with sundried tomato - mild.

I can't wait to come by to try their other meat products too.  I'm also tempted by their sandwiches.  Dang, I need more meals in order to try everything they have to offer!

Butcher? Sayyyy what? They make their own sausages?

    I'm down, like 5 clowns.

No seriously though. We hit up Meating on Queen in Leslieville for a couple of so-sa-ges to bbq with the friends. Not a large spot, but has that typical butcher feel that you seek when you're on your way there.

They have a ginoooooormous amount of sausages. I'm talking a case from one end of the wall to the other, all of which are made in store. From your typical flavor flavs to some exotic and speciality ones such as the Ecuadorian. We went with two of those. I can't even really tell you what was in it. The dude behind the counter told us at the time but all I know is it was fabulous. Two reasons that make it a bomb sausage: it's massive, like to the point you need a custom made bun. Which brings me to my second reason, they have the homemade custom buns there for you to purchase along with your meat. Winna winna sausage dinna.

If you're ever in that neck of the woods, you should definitely check it out. The have fresh cuts of local meat as well as numerous baked goods to boot. Super cheap too!

I've passed by this place so many times since moving to Leslieville, but have only recently gone in. I'm not a huge meat eater, but would love to hear more about their produce and whether or not they sell cage-free eggs.
Since we are going to the park almost daily now, I'd love to start shopping at Meating on Queen regularly.

I agree with all the other 4-5 star reviewers. Friendly staff, their sausages are fantastic, and try grilling up some of the thick butterfly cut pork chops. They are so buttery and tender- certainly the best I have *EVER* had! You can also order many special items that they a) do not always stock b) may run out of but you need to be sure you get it.

Meating is an excellent butcher/grocer.  The sausages are delicious and I really like the interesting combos of ingredients and seasoning in them.  The only issue is you have to grill them carefully because they are prone to exploding.

Everything I've ever tried from this place has been golden.  The prices on other staple such as cheese, milk, and so on are also reasonable.  If you are short an onion or tomatoes for a recipe, rest assured you'll be able to pick them up too.

    Deffo worth a gander.

Meating is a family run, independent butcher (and more) in Leslieville. Whereas I am not a huge meat eater, I can definitely appreciate the quality of the offerings, and the reasonable prices.

All meat at meeting is grass fed and sourced from a Ontario Farm. Free range chicken and Ontario Lamb also available.

A Gigantic filet of Wild Salmon, marinated in garlic and herbs is about $20.00, suitable for at least two generous portions and unbelievably tasty. Sausages are about $4.99 a lb and approximately 1/2lb each. Blueberries, Strawberries, Herbs all make an appearance in the flavor combinations. The most popular choice is Ecuadorian. All Hand made without additives.

Summer fresh salads and cheeses in the prepared foods area, as well as cooked meats and Dufflet pastries. A Wide variety of Latin American food stuffs.

Beautiful produce, all very fresh and well prices (beets $1 a lb, lemons $.50 each)

Yet another reason to love Leslieville.

This is truly one of the better butchers in the city of Toronto. The beef is grass fed, something that the butchers at St. Lawrence Market scoffed at and dismissed (witch still has me pissed off to this day). The meat and pork come from a farm in Guelph that the family owners like to deal with due to the quality of the product.

The sausages here are the star. They have more varieties than I have even seen, and they make them at the store. The star within this is the Ecuadorian sausages from their own recipe, which is addictive.

I want to give them 5 full stars, but I'm taking 1 off because I find the product diversity to be a little light. I don't expect any sole butcher to have everything, but I would expect at the least there would be flank steak and more veal products. The same old same old gets tired after a little while.

That said, it's important that this shop stay open and do well so that consumers have the option for product that is far superior to the chain supermarket 'selection'. It helps both the retail industry, and the food industry in general.

    Update:

I visited Meating today to get some pork for a BBQ I am hosting.  I am having a lot of people over, and pork is expensive so I had previously decided to get a pork tenderloin instead of butterfly chops after checking out Loblaws... Wow am I ever glad I stopped here on my way home.

    Comparison:
Butterfly pork chops at Loblaws: $7.99/lb
Butterfly pork chops at Meating: $4.99/lb

I was able to buy 5 HUGE butterfly chops here for $21.  This would have been nearly $40 at Loblaws, and they are much nicer looking.

Basically, I love this store and even though I live really close to it, I am going to start looking for an apartment on Jones so I can come here everyday.

I honestly want to say to this family:  thank you.

I have no hesitations giving this place 5 stars!  It's a family run business.  I met the owner when I was working as a teller in a bank close by.  This location has been occupied by many failed businesses, but I think Meating will be sticking around for quite awhile.
Their sausages are absolutely amazing!!!  They have a huge variety and my favourite is spicy Equadorian.  Soooo good, and if you don't like spicy, try the regular Equadorian.  They are perfect for the BBQ, but just make sure you cook them fresh, because they don't taste nearly as good if you keep it in the freezer.

    Mmmmm... sausage.

The best place around to get homemade sausage. Super friendly and helpful guys. Nice, clean place with a shelf devoted to hot sauce. I couldn't ask for anything more.

UPDATE: So, via the fruit sticker, I emailed the farmer in Mexico ("Gonzalez") who grows the avocados sold at Meating On Queen and he totally emailed me back within a day! He was so thrilled that I was loving and raving about his Persea gratissima all the way up in Canada. Thanks Gonzalez! You keep on doin' what you're doin' and make sure Meating On Queen gets a whiff of it so I can enjoy the fruits of your labour (literally).

I've been to Meating in Queen several times and have loved every moment of it.  The meat is fantastic and the are so nice there.  Oh, and the cheeses there are fantastic too!

The salmon is awesome.  It's the same price for the marinated vs. non-marinated version.  This is uncommon, but definitely worth it.  They use the freshest herbs.  I just throw it on a well oiled cast iron skillet or en papillote and voila!
    Highly recommend this business!

Great store and wish they were in my neighbourhood. I stopped by for my first time today to get a sausage barbecued for me right in front of the store. Also they had alot of fresh toppings to choose from. I then sat in the park right across the street. Tasty!!!!
