I Lovee a great sandwich especially when it's paired with friendly service and quality ingredients. MBCo definitely has all these traits!
As I stepped inside, there was no menu board listing of sandwiches available but a glass case displaying a selection of fresh preassembled sandwiches on a variety of breads awaiting an owner to claim them. Luckily I was there!
We settled on two sandwiches
MBCo Classic BLT - made with cherry tomatoes and boston lettuce on rye bread with a scrumptious lemon aioli on the side. Perfectly cooked bacon on perfectly toasted bread!
Croque Monsieur - They called it a Croque Monsieur but to my surprise it had an egg layered in making it a Croque Madam! Never the less it was perfectly toasted on a crunchy baguette with ham and melted cheese again with a side of there delicious lemon aioli it surely did not disappoint!
Beside sandwiches they had a tempting display of desserts conviently placed beside the cashier. I could not help my self from indulging. We ended up getting the:
Chocolate Souffle - Came out piping hot, I appreciated that they observed that we had completed eating our sandwiches, took away our dirty plates and then brought it over and warned us how hot it was. It was fluffy and creamy with a little crunch on the top, chocolatey, almost a dark chocolate flavour.
Chocolate Cake - A a thin layer chocolate sponge cake piled high with a tower creamy delicious chocolate mousse drapped in a thin layer of dark chocolate fondant. It was heavenly the perfect ending to a delicious meal.
We also got a piping hot pot of English Breakfast tea. The waitress also asked if we would like hot or cold milk! Obviously I had to go with hot milk and she brought over a cup of hot steamed milk! Loveee thattt + she also refilled our pot!
Overall great sandwiches with great desserts paired with amazzing service it's a definite sandwich destination! However before you divulge be aware of the cost...for 2 sandwiches, 2 desserts, and 2 pots of tea it cost about 42 bucks! However I enjoyed every last bite so I have no regrets! -

I love Montreal for its atmosphere and the really good food that you can have over there for a regular price.
But this place is really misleading customers. Atmosphere is not friendly at all and waiters are clearly not from Quebec. Food is overpriced and not even particularly good. I had a ham and brie cheese omelette which was overcooked and not as good as what i could do by myself.
Another place in Yorkville which only subsists because it's Yorkville...overpriced and supposedly trendy. -

What a shame!
Weather was great, shopping was fruitful, and the friends I was with... even better. But this place is a disaster. The most unfriendly place I have been to in years. I dealt with 4 different people during my ordering process and not one smile. One attendant failed to give me any information, so I was left standing waiting to find out what to do. The next 2 attendants (one was the manager or owner, dressed like a street thug) argued about what to chage me at the cash regoster. The fourth attendant took my water glass away before I finished it....bottled water I should add.
I ordered the smoked salmon salad and was not expecting a lot of salmon, but did expect more than the 3 see through slices I did get.
Overall, a big dissapointment! -

Too little for too much. For $20 I got a very small chicken village salad, a diet cola and attitude. Dont waste your time or your money. The salad at Whole Foods or Loblaws are just as good for far less !

Very surprise to see a less than 3 star rating for this place. I can't say I am still a fan but used to be a big fan and have lots of sweet memory here.
MBCo has my favorite lamb burger and 3 mushroom burger. Very good coffee too.
One of the best spots to appreciate Toronto's beautiful summer. -

Okay.. the location is convenient and it has a decent patio in the summer. I think this place is overpriced. I'm fine paying for quality but I think I saw $5-$6 for a muffin. It was tiny, the cheapest treat you can buy is $4.
I can see why it didn't survive in the financial district. No one wants to pay upwards of $15 to $20 for a quick meal.
I've been here a couple of times with my boyfriend. He likes the location but I think the food is overrated. I had a coffee and tuna pasta salad. The pasta had too much mayo. The sandwiches looked simple but some costs $14. Next time, I'm going to Whole foods to grab a healthier option and sit by the rocks or patio furniture in Yorkville. -

I don't know why people are giving this place such poor reviews. yes its "pricey" but it's yorkville...if you want cheap wraps go to the nearest food court...Yes the staff may not be friendly, but if you deal wtih rude people all day, what can you expect? (I can' t comment if you're a nice person and they were just flat out rude to you--they're probably fired by now, they always have new employees)
Anyways...I have probably consumed maybe 100 chicken pitas from here..they are amazing, and delicious. Especially with the mayo dressing on the side. They also serve alcohol and mini creme brulees (mm)...oh and try the portuguese tarts they're good too.
I love the decor and how clean it is. The patio outside is always busy...great to come here wtih friends.... -

While it is regarded as a good place in many respects, all of which you'll find in other reviews, I felt compelled to write this review as a warning. I had gone to the place for a little meeting with a couple of friends a couple of weeks ago. A sweet elderly lady who is a friend of the owner recommended it to me. Certainly seemed nice.
When I walked up to the cash to place an order for a simple coffee and danish the staff person seemed not to want to notice me. He ignored me and proceeded away to do other things. When he was finished with the other tasks he came back as though he well knew I was standing there all along. I discussed this with my elderly friend and she said the problem with the place is that a few teenagers are left to their own devices because, for the owner to be there just jams up the work behind the counter. Truly, the boys doing the work look like they are completely misplaced in a place trying to be perceived as posh.
I requested a warmed danish and it came to me microwaved on max for almost a minute and was steaming and completely limp - no longer a pastry. Garbage. That's where it went.
Then, in the middle of my meeting a staff person walked from the washroom with a toilet plunger and proceeded into the food prep area behind the glass screen next to me and starts plunging the kitchen sink with the toilet plunger. I was aghast. My stomach lurched. I had just tried to eat their food. This place is foul. I recommend that the health department do some work on this place before you go in. And the place needs to be staffed with people who want to do their jobs. Do not ever go here. -

I've been to MBCo a couple times. The location is great -- overlooking Cumberland Ave., close to Bloor but quieter. The place is nice and calming and service generally okay. However, as others have previously mentioned, the food items are so overpriced!! I had a bocconcini and tomato pizza on a pita ($15). It was okay but dripping with olive oil and oddly served with a side of mayonaise... This is the first time I have seen mayo + pizza, other than in Japan. The lattes are pretty good though. I would come back for a coffee/tea, but not for food.
Random observation: there is a crucifix on the wall behind the cashier. A little out of place with the rest of the decor?Listed in: Patio Season!, The Sweet Escape

This place was nearly empty the few times I went and it's located in an area where there's lots of foot traffic. They seem to use high-quality, fresh ingredients but the food isn't all that tasty. Maybe they should focus more on the food and less effort on making the interior look pretty?

Too overpriced for what they offer!
A sandwhich will cost you around $15. Don't get me wrong, it is not bad food. However, for the price you're paying you would expect something a lot better.
I ordered a portabello mushroom sandwhich and it came with a small ramekin of fruit. It was loaded with butter, which I'm not really a fan of.
The total was $25. It would have been better to spend that amount at a nicer restaurant. -

I love making sandwiches and take great time in preparing them. I consider sandwich making an art form. Too many toppings and it spills, too little and there's no flavor.
MBCo gets it. Sandwiches are prepared with the most excellent fillings and complimenting toppings. Each sandwich I have ever had here has been an absolute delight. The panini press also gets a huge thumbs up from me. The breads are good and the fillings are prepared very well. Lots of time goes into making these sandwiches and you can taste it.
The decor and location are great. It is located behind that big rock on Cumberland on the south side. Walking in this small shop you see high vaulted ceilings, nice butchers block wooden tables, floor to ceiling windows, a bar along the window side, a big glass case showing off their sandwiches, pizzas and other goodies, and lots of reviews on their walls printed nice and big for your reading enjoyment. The view from the windows are great for people watching and letting in a lot of natural light.
Staff is very fast, friendly and eager to help. The kind to take time and talk to you for a bit, very rare in this part of town.
This place isn't perfect as you can see by my star rating. Unfortunately it is located in a very wealthy neighborhood and the prices reflect it. $14 for a sandwich? It's damn good, I'll give 'em that, but I like my arm and leg where they are. The clientele also reflect the neighborhood. Rich retirees, rich housewives, rich bankers, rich people walking dogs, rich everything. Not that being rich is bad or I hate the company of rich people but it just makes the place lose its quaint heat-and-serve-take-out charm. I also know that this setting may be a turn off for a lot of folks as it can feel slightly pretentious at times.
Overall, they make killer sandwiches and have a great location but the prices are ridiculous and I find it hard to justify it, yet I find myself here time and time again. The only items stale in this joint is the average clientele. Would I say it is worth it? Hard to say as it's the one of best sandwiches I have had outside my kitchen but not the best I've ever had. -

Overpriced is an understatement.
Paid over the odds for the worlds smallest 3 cheese grilled cheese sandwich and a lemonade.
Service was average at best, hardly the friendliest of staff. (it wasn't too busy)
Made the most of the beautiful weather and sat on the patio for some people watching. Listened to the table behind me bemoan the fact that both the service and the food have gone downhill. Won't return. -

Although this is a bakery, I think of it as my favorite coffee shop in Yorkville. It has more character and better food than the nearby Lettieri and Starbucks. The coffee drinks are competent, the salads and sandwiches excellent. Service can be hit and miss, but it's OK on average. The outside patio is really pleasant, facing that lovely mini-park above Bay station.
As always in Yorkville, expect to see some fake boobs on stilettos and affectation by vapid souls trying to make this Manhattan without knowing how. But they won't attack humans unprovoked, so you can still enjoy this little bakery on a lazy weekend afternoon. -

Excellent food but very very over priced! I keep coming back but it's after saving up for a few days. I'll keep coming back because of the great food, clean appearance, and friendly staff. If the price was more reasonable I'd be here every day.
