Our first Dim sum and it was very good. Very friendly staff, good suggestions, great price and great food.
Came here Saturday slightly after noon and they still had dim sum on. Which was good. Even better it's dim sum the way I like it, where they bring dishes by your table and let you select from the carts or trays. I'm not much of a pro remembering the names so I kind of like to be able to just point 'n' dine versus order up via a menu or tick sheet. My super beautiful blind date (well she was a blind date in a previous review) appears to speak fluent Mandarin and I guess she could do the ordering but she might just end up ordering chicken feet. Which she did.
My super beautiful date tested the waitstaff's knowledge of Mandarin which I think implies they either speak Cantonese or they're mostly English speakers. Which means if you're just a stupid whitey like me, you'll do fine here.
The place appeared quite busy Saturday noon although they have a pretty extensive secondary room in back so don't panic.
The dim sum wasn't the best I ever had (oddly the best I've ever had was a little out of the way place near SeaTac) but for Windsor this place is something of a miracle find.
And prices were pretty good. My beautiful date and I stuffed ourselves for $26.
Solid dim sum, but missing that little something that would put May Wah Inn (MWI) on par with Wah Court (WC.)
For traditional small plate items with the similar price tags as WC, MWI will satisfy your cravings. However, it lacks the creativity in unique dishes that WC seems to flawlessly shell out. Don't get me wrong -- the dim sum items here are still mighty delicious for the most part, with the notables being the shrimp cheong fun and the hargow. The bean curd skin rolls was slightly lacking in flavor and the BBQ pork buns were simply a-okay in my book. No BBQ pork pastries sadly.
Onto the pros of MWI: a private lot! It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that I absolutely dislike street parking (found over at the WC.) However, I'll happily settle for the aforementioned street parking at the less crowded WC than a huge parking lot at a jam-packed MWI. Catch my drift?
All in all, a good second tier dim sum spot in the 519.
Had buffet style dinner here with my buddy's rehearsal dinner. There was deep fried squid, honey walnut prawns, sweet n sour pork, chinese broccoli and beef , baked chicken, vegetables, other vegetables, it was all good.
I also came here for dim sum a long time ago and that was really good.
Anyway, it's a large restaurant with...parking in the back!
Enjoy.
best place for dim sum! i lived in dearborn and it was only about 10-15 minutes away! besides the fact that you have to cross the border to go to canada, this place is a must for dimsum!
Har Gow - shrimp dumplings
Char Siu Bao - BBQ Pork Buns (Get Baked Ones)
Borlaw Bao - Pineapple Buns
Egg Tarts
Potstickers
Century Egg and Pork Congee.............mmmmmmm
If you're the type that refuses to take dim sum recommendations from non-chinese people... then you can keep reading
This place is delicious. I used to go here a lot with my family as a kid and I still stop by for dim sum frequently when I'm in WIndsor. I just was there yesterday and they haven't lost their touch.
The restaurant has a very high asian percentage if that's the sort of thing you look for (i.e., what percent of the actual patrons are asian) and a very low fork percentage. It wasn't that expensive either as yesterday 4 of us ordered everything to our heart's content and the bill only came to ~9 CAD a person which is a steal compared to most china towns
My only complaint is why dim sum places worldwide can't take a hint from Brazilian steakhouses and get a little card to be able to signal when you're full? That would make things so much easier. Also, at May Wah's they walk around with trays of food instead of the normal carts that you find at massive dim sum venues in places like Houston, LA, Toronto and New York.
