Review from Beverly W.
Vancouver, BC
I decided to try out Maurya Indian Cuisine as I had not tried a more upscale Indian restaurant before. There is parking available behind the restaurant as Broadway parking can be annoying.
The restaurant is fairly spacious with elegant decor. We were seated promptly. There were quite a few people in the restaurant and they did not have enough menus. We waited a bit before we could get a menu. The papadum came almost right away after we were seated and it was really crispy.
I ordered the lamb rogan josh which is lamb in onion, tomatoes and yogurt flavoured with homemade spices. For the dishes, you need to add $5.95 to have rice, naan and daal to make it a meal. I saw $4.95 on the online menu but it is $5.95 at the restaurant. I really liked the dish which was flavorful. My only complaint is that they offered not enough rice. I could have had double that amount. Rice is cheap so it was disappointing that they did not give a larger portion.
I liked our server as she was actually nice. She had a lot of enthusiasm and I felt comfortable asking her questions about the dishes. She made the dining experience pleasant.
At the end of the meal, you get a hot towel to wipe your hands and it was really hot!
I recommend this place for upscale Indian dining. I think it is more worthwhile to try their specialty dishes and not the regular curry dishes that you can find at regular Indian places. -

I came here for their lunch buffet a few weeks ago. It's not a huge buffet set-up, but it does the job. You get your basics, Butter Chicken, Curry, Paneer, Aloo Gobi, Tandorri Chicken drumsticks. The key is that they stick to a few items and make it all tasty enough and they make it all-you-can-eat.
For $13-$14 (I forget the exact total) it's a decent enough deal if you are really hungry and can eat a lot! The service is very nice too, no one is trying to rush you out the door and no one is giving you dirty looks as you go back for your third plate of Butter Chicken.Listed in: I HEART Food!

Vancouver, BC
Went there today with a meetup group. We had lunch buffet, so it's a good way to sample their cooking. Everything was decent but just mediocre.
The highlight I left with was only the pappadum, it's thin and crispy as how it should be. Butter chicken tasted artificial, lack of flavours, and too sweet. The server couldn't wait to clear our plates, as soon as it's empty, he asked "Are you done?". That was weird. -

The lunch buffet is pretty good as is their mango lassie. The decor is upscale and inviting. A great place for two or for a large group. The service though could use a boost in friendliness and energy. It seemed like the waiting staff were not interested in being there.

Review from Stevie C.
My dad and I were looking for an Indian Buffet so I was searching on Yelp. I was about to go to Saravanaa Bhavan, but because it was Vegetarian I decided I didn't want to! Maurya caught my eye and it's on West Broadway a great place for restaurants to be. We walked in and boom whoa I was very impressed at the design of the place. It looked like a fancy french restaurant in a hotel with high ceilings and very spacious. You will feel like you are a king or a queen of Vancouver.
There were three stations for the buffet,
1. Appetizers(caesar salad, cucumber/tomatoe salad, bean sprouts salad, and melon. Balances out the spicy foods.
2. Hot foods(curries, rice, etc)
3. Dessert(Mango and another pudding)
Food- Tasted great. You are served with Naan and you can keep asking for more which is cool. My favorite food items were the Butter Chicken curry and also the Kadi Paneer(had tofu in it, spicy), Chicken, and seasonal vegetables.
I ate like 4 full plates of food and was quite full. I'm curious, how many plates do most people have before they call it quits? Downed it with some Indian Chai ginger in it had some kick in it. Service is pretty good. With two servers taking care of about 10 tables that was pretty good. I also liked how they kept on refilling the food station, it appeared like the owner was coming out frequently to check on the supply. Very good!
$13.99 I felt was worth it for buffet. Will be back. -
Review from Mark F.
$13.99 lunch buffet is not worth the plate it's served on .
Large, open dining room with a confusing motif. Chinese bamboo sconces, Italian marble floors, a little French chef statue by the buffet plates, gilded lion heads on the wall. Where am I
Can't get over the contemporary piano music piped in. Was a little loud too so distracting to our conversation.
The buffet was average with tikka, and masala, nan, tandoori and aIoo gobhi. Yes it's a buffet but that does not mean you can short me on good food.
If you need a buffet, they have it. Otherwise, go around the corner for amazing Indian. -

Nothing to die for....our experience was a mixed one. We liked the Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka but not the Pilaf rice...it had a weird smell in it!! The Navratan Korma was creamy and rich...enjoyed the garlic naans too. Service was ok.

Review from Anthony A.
Over the summer I visited Vancouver, BC, Canada and had a really great trip. Seeing as I do enjoy yelp, I decided to give this place a review.
I had the Halibut Curry and it was phenomenal, with the spice that I was seeking and the coalescing flavors expected from Indian fare. The portions are large and well worth the price. As with most places in Vancouver, it is possible to reach this restaurant via public transit and thankfully it stays open comparatively late versus a good number of other restaurants I patronized.
The waitstaff was very courteous and checked on my table many times to assure that everything was to our liking. Also, they were sure to prepare the dishes' spices according to the likes and dislikes of the customer, which is important to me when having Indian because typically the dishes are toned down to suit more Americanized palettes.
With it's high ceilings, romantic lighting (including candles burning at your table), delicious garlic naan, basmati rice, and a shrimp tandoori served up right in a coconut, this place has everything that a GREAT restaurant should have. In terms of Indian food, this place is about as good as it can be without being strictly homemade.
If you find yourself in the Vancouver do definitely take the time to drop into Maurya Indian Cuisine, an establishment where the cuisine is not optional in the least. -
Review from Matthew B.
This place is the bomb! The ambiance is fantastic, and the food is amazing. I had the butter chicken, some of the richest flavors I've had. My group had everything form the lamb kabobs to the Chicken Chettinad. All was great.
To top it off, this is one of the 1,000 point open table restaurants. So if you go, be sure to book your reservation that way.
This was dinner... we cannot vouch for the quality of the lunch buffet. -
Review from Reena M.
2 years later I decided to give Maurya another shot. I was starving and was on my way to school when I decided to stop for the buffet lunch. They raised the price of the buffet to $13.99 and I really should know better by now because I don't eat much, and I definitely didn't eat $14 worth... :( But that's not why I'm dissatisfied..
Unlike last time, the service this time was actually spot on! My water glass was refilled frequently and if I needed something, someone was always there to attend to my needs. Much appreciated!
What I didn't like this time, however, was the food. And maybe this is completely personal preference but I figured it might help the next person that doesn't like cardamom either. That's right... everything (mutter paneer, lamb rogan josh, butter chicken) was overly spiced with cardamom! I get iffy when I taste a little bit of cardamom in sweets that my mom makes (where it belongs)... I'm not a fan. But these curries had 10x the amount, it seemed. So each bite of my food was eaten with dread of having to taste strong cardamom. The funny thing is that the kheer (rice pudding) tasted like it had very little to no cardamom and that's where it's usually found.
The naan was really good... but it's just an accompaniment.
So because of the strong elaichi (cardamom) flavour, I will have to put this on my "I think not" list. :(Listed in: Reena M's Guide to Kitsilano, A Coconut's Guide to Indian…

Vancouver, BC
Good selection of indian/pakistani food. I've only been here for their lunch buffet, which is $13.99 so a little more than what I'm used to paying for an indian buffet, but their collection is always worth it. They have a large number of vegetarian dishes along with the typical meat dishes. Pakoras, papadums, chutneys, and raitas are there almost every day and the rest of the buffet menu keeps changing.
Their chai is strong and hits the spot ! and the mango mousse dessert is also a must try.
Overall, it's a much better deal than Vij's and no wait too. The ambience is nice but the service could use a little wake up call - it's a little on the slow side. It's great for team lunches as the venue can accommodate groups of 10-15 easily.
They have limited parking in back in a small alley -- you can get to it from Fir street. -

mmmmm...let's just say I'm looking forward to my leftovers for dinner tonight.
Came here for Dine Out Vancouver and my fellow diner and I each chose different things so we could share. To start, we shared the potato-and-chickpea flour dumplings and the chicken tikka. Our mains were the Lamb Roganjosh (simmered in onions, tomatoes, yogurt, and homemade spices) and the tomato stuffed with homemade cottage cheese served in a sweet curry sauce. For dessert, we had the strawberry ice cream and the rice pudding. The dine out menu also came with rice, naan and daal (lentil curry) - and I echo other reviewers' comments that the daal was amazing!! Combined, that was a LOT of food for two people and made for a pretty hefty doggie bag. For me, the standouts were the two main dishes and of course the daal. (Although everything was incredibly tasty.)
As for atmosphere, it is definitely more formal and romantic than what you would normally expect at an Indian restaurant, especially with the high ceilings and huge flower arrangement in the center of the dining room. Our server was actually very warm and friendly, and did a great job keeping our water and wine glasses topped up and making sure that we were happy with the food (but without being too overbearing).
I have heard some people rave about the lunch buffet and some people criticize it, but based on my positive experience here, I would come back and give it a try. -

Wow wow wow. Watch out Vijs, watch out all Indian restaurants. How have I not visited this place in all my years here, Chicken Chethinand, Lamb Korma, Dal Maurya, and Lamb Biryani. Boy oh boy, so delicious, each item in there. The decor is quite nicely done in there, and the service is quick, and the food is delicious. It is pricey, but honestly its worth every dollar, and generous portion sizes.
This is going to be the place I go for really good Indian food. I am Indian, and I certify this post :) -

I love the food at Maurya, but I much prefer ordering takeout to eating in the dining room. I have ordered takeout about 10 times, and have eaten in the restaurant four or five. The service staff are distant, like another reviewer mentioned, and almost prickly in their demeanour. The dining room is beautiful, but I have never felt entirely comfortable or welcome there. The food is easily 4 stars, but the serving staff brings down this rating.
Nevertheless, the food is very good. I've only eaten vegetarian food here, so I can't comment on the meat dishes. Hands down best palak paneer in Vancouver, and they know how to do a mean eggplant bharta. The aloo gobi is always perfectly seasoned. Their malai kofta is by far my favourite dish. It is a wonderful creamy, spicy, slightly sweet cashew sauce with cheese dumplings. Perplexingly only three dumplings are provided for $13.00, which seems a little stingy to me, but the sauce alone is delicious soaked up with naan. The portion of rice they provide is also on the small side, and expensive for what you get. The food is consistently good though. In all the times I have ordered, I have never had an "off" dish, which says something about the kitchen.
Takeout does take about an hour to arrive, but you are informed of that before you order. I always order online via their website, and it has always arrived within the hour. The drivers have never been anything less than polite and courteous.
Despite some of its shortcomings, it is my go-to Indian restaurant in Vancouver for takeout.
Food: 4 stars
Takeout service: 4 stars
In dining experience: 2.5 stars -

Another visit and another great meal. Visited on a quiet and cold Tuesday. Great reception and staff accommodated our pickiness over where we wanted to sit. Chaat starter superb. Chicken vindaloo with pilau rice and buttery nan fantastic. Tiger beer a staple. Still the best Indian restaurant in Vancouver for me. But if you want that fifth star start offering onion bhajis!

Have only gotten take out from this place but the food is superb. You have to check your order to make sure they didn't forget anything but otherwise, it's pretty good. Love the Chicken Chetinnad always get it. Paneer curry is also quite good. Generous portions. A bit pricey - I don't like places where curries don't normally come with rice but if you take out, then you can make your own.
Naan is quite nice and fresh. Very yummy.
I don't go out much for curry - I like it fresh and from mom which is the best :-) but when I do get a craving (and don't feel like cooking myself), I order from here!
I think I actually prefer it over Vijj's which I find pretentious and overpriced - which is a shame since the food is alright. -

this Indian cuisine is actually quite popular among my Indian friends, so I decided to give a shot for it today.
It turns out better than what I expect, is really pretty good. I tried the buffet and most of the foods are fresh and taste Indian according to my Indian friend. However, this is definitely not the best Indian food I have ever had. So ya~
Give it a shot if you want since it is also a few Vancouver dinning winner. -

North Vancouver, BC
I have been there many time, every time food is different, but bearable. But this time I took my wife's cousin with us and the food was dreadful. Every single dish was awful.
Lamb chops tasted as they had gone bad. They had a very strong smell. Lamb pieces were like washed in lamb rogan josh, in every spoon lamb came out washed and there was no thickness to the suase. Palak paneer had no taste what so ever. Angoori prawns were so over cooked that they even refused to come off the skewers.
To top it off, they offered their terrible service by far. We three were still munching on our leftovers when every single busser and server came and ask if we were done. There was no communication between them, if we have told one person that we were still working on it, they should have told other servers before they all came and ask with in 2 minutes. Finally we had to tell them to take away everything.
Don't get me wrong, I don't normally slander about a business. I have worked there or three year with the first owner and I know what to expect from that restaurant. -
Review from Katie F.
Nicer ambiance than most Indian restaurants and this popped up on my yelp monocle when I couldn't wait for the 1.5 hr wait at Vij's and needed to satisfy an Indian food craving!
It's A-OK. Service is so-so here and the hostess at the front needed to be more polished and the server was pretty distant, including not asking how spicy we wanted our dishes!
Complimentary papadums to start with mango and mint chutney. Had the chaat tikki as an appy - went with this one since it claims it won the DOV 2009 appy award. It's definitely different - some chick peas, a potato and chick pea patty with sauce and some greens. Interesting flavors - not my style but hubby really liked it.
Liked the kadai lamb - the sauce could have used a bit more flavor but the lamb was beautifully done! Nice and tender! Basmati rice, plain naan and black lentils (daal) came with it as well. We also had some garlic naan as well - I'd pass on the garlic one next time - the way the garlic chunks were put on top of it wasn't very appealing. The regular naan is good.
It's A-OK but I'm hoping that I'll eventually get to Vij's early enough one day so I don't have to wait! -
Review from Jay D.
This is a difficult review to write as my 10-year stint in London where Indians learn about great Indian food has significantly colored my palate and views.
One sauce serving 5 different vegetables and 3 meats was not on offer. Maurya did not commit this sin as all sauces or gravies had their very own and distinctive taste.
The tandoori was a bit wet - as in over marinated - for my taste but the chicken was quite fresh and flavorful.
You could do a lot worse than Maurya when you have to scratch that itch albeit get me a curry before I do something drastic. -
Review from Emma G.
The ambiance here is nice - it's a bit nicer than most Indian restaurants in Vancouver, and the servers are friendly. Maurya has a nice layout in that the tables aren't too close together.
The food....mmm! I love their naan, it's delicious! Perfectly soft and chewy. The butter chicken was tasty (how can you mess up butter chicken?!), and I had some dessert that's name escapes me. A little donut hole type thing in rosewater? Anyways, delicious.
The price is moderate -more expensive than your average take out place, but not too pricy. They've done Dine Out Vancouver in the past, so if they do it again, definitely worth the price! -
Review from Emma L.
I've been here several times with a vegetarian friend who loves Indian food. It's good, solid Indian cuisine, but nothing special, especially when compared with other places in the neighbourhood (coughVijsRangolicough). I really enjoy the kofta naram dil and the palak paneer. And the daal! Can't forget that daal.
While the restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere (although I've only ever seen it about a quarter full, which is a little suspect), I really like their takeout and delivery. For $4.95 you can add rice, naan and daal to make your dish a full meal, and you get a discount if you place your order online. -
Review from Sarpreet G.
The ambiance here is great and probably what gets me to come back. Don't get me wrong, the food is good, but not amazing. If you have a special event and want to go to a nicer restaurant as opposed to your typical hole-in-the-wall Indian joint, this is the place to go. Expect to pay a bit more too.
All that being said, I'd definitely come back, because it is a great place for a larger group. -

We went to Maurya for a welcome back dinner on a Thursday. The place was kinda of dead, but that meant we got a lot of attention from the servers. Our water glasses were never half empty. The place is also beautiful inside, with lots of soft lighting. Great for a romantic dinner, which a lot of people were there for.
The food was pretty good. There is a good variety of dishes, they are more experimental with their flavours and ingredients than other traditional indian restos. Each dish was very flavourful, however the medium spiciness was more spicy than I've had at other restaurants. So beware! I'm glad we only got one medium spiced dish. The kadai lamb was my favourite of all of them and I would definitely go back for it!
The other special thing....they give you warmed towels at the end of the meal! That made everyone at the tables' day! -
Review from Rachel K.
3.5 stars for a wonderful interior and ambiance, wonderful service, and great to so-so things on the menu for a moderate price (anywhere from $12-25 for an entree).
Our waiter was extremely attentive and helpful, answering our questions and explaining certain dishes while guiding us to choose wisely to our preferences. The dishes we chose were:
Appetizers
Subz Khazana (vegetable fritters) - wasn't really impressed. Basically tiny bits of fried vegetables that you dip in a sauce. Tasted dry to me and the presentation was also not very appealing.
Angoori Jumbo Prawns - these were very tasty. The downside - there were only 6 shrimps total. I wish the ratio of the shrimp and salad that it came on could have been the opposite!
Entrees
Butter Chicken - standard, couldn't go wrong. Creamy, tasty. Very tomato-y.
Mixed Vegetable Makhani - it was fine but nothing special at all. Was your basic mixed vegetables on a hot plate.
Chicken Chettinad - this was tasty and very flavorful. Your standard, flavorful curry.
Tandoori Chicken - wasn't my favorite, although the rest of my table seemed to enjoy it. The chicken seemed very dry to me and didn't have much flavor... I took one bite and decided that was enough for me, since there were other tastier dishes to devour!
Kadai Lamb - this was a winner! I thought it was very well done, with generous, tender pieces of lamb that were extremely yummy. Cooked with peppers and onion... everyone agreed this was a hit.
Prawn Malai Curry - the other winning dish and my favorite of the night. The curry was served in a coconut - how cute is that!?
Plus an order of garlic naan and a side of basmati rice with peas. I was surprised to see just chunks of garlic just sitting on top of the naan... I didn't think that just throwing garlic on a basket of naan made it garlic naan!
Yup, it was too much food... but it was so nice to taste everything and each dish was very unique and different. Besides the great service, I loved just looking around the restaurant. It's a huge space with extremely high ceilings. It almost looks like it could be a really nice, fancy banquet hall. Very nice, low-key but upscale ambiance great for any occasion whether it's with friends, family, or on a date.
A solid place. I would recommend the Kadai Lamb and the Prawn Malai Curry above anything else, although the Butter Chicken and Chicken Chettinad are also good choices. -

This is a very different style of Indian restaurant than the standard ones.
Maurya is decorated with the British influence in mind and makes great efforts to accommodate their customers (table requests, special orders etc.)
It is more pricey than a standard Indian restaurant, but not exhorbitant. You can make any entree a "meal" - adding rice, etc for a small fee, which we always do.
I've been there probably a dozen times and have liked all of the food I've tried so far. Try the cauliflower appetizer and the Halibut entree. The dahl Maurya is great too. For dessert be sure to try the Ras Malai.
Its an excellent choice for a special night out or when you want to dress up a little. -

Maurya is contemporary in design, style and service. The
Menu is somewhat traditional as they have the usual standard fair like
butter chicken , alu gobi , Nan Bread and other favorites. They have
not gone too far in trying to re create traditional dishes. Prices
where acceptable and on the last occasion we went, service was
efficient and attentive, but remarkably quiet for a Thursday night, I
was surprised as its two popular Neighbours, Earls and Bogart's were packed.
I would like to see some more creative dishes with Maurya as
its decor, location, and overall feeling will lend itself to being a
little more daring with the menu, but over all it was good. I will add
a star because it tried not to be too campy in the Indian theme and it
worked. -

If my usual Indian cuisine haunt in Calgary heard what I am about to say...I may never be allowed back in, but for the sake of Yelp and all of you devoted fans (I know you're out there!) I will divulge: this is the BEST Indian I have ever had - and I didn't even eat in at the restaurant. GASP! I know, can you believe it?! I decided to treat my boyfriend and I to some dinner but we were both too lazy to go anywhere, so I ordered in from the ridiculously convenient delivery system on the Maurya website. They even have a checkout! The food arrived on-time and was truly a revelation. I have yet to travel to India but I can only hope the food is this good!

I can see why this restaurant has been struggling in recent years. The food was decent but the service was bad. I had contacted the restaurant ahead of time stating that there was going to be one diner in our group of 4 that had allergies/sensitivities to a number of foods and would like to have some options available (even if very limited). When we arrived they had no clue what I was talking about and had to start from scratch.
They served the main courses to the wrong people. The Fish Tikka Halibut was kind of dry and bland and we had to re-order an extra side of naan bread because they had forgotten it the first time. My Chicken Chettinad was quite tasty and my partner's Prawn Malai curry was delicious as well. Both came with naan, rice and veg, but the other two dishes that were ordered did not. I feel like they need to have a bit more consistency in the main course menu, where they should all have side dishes or none of them, not both.
One of the servers/bussers command of the English language was lacking and her manner a bit abrupt. I hope that is the reason for the next comment that I have to make. We asked to take the coconut that had one of the dishes served in it home, with our left overs, but were told that we could not have the coconut because they REUSE them! That just screams food safety issues, and if it is true, then the health department needs to go in and shut them down.
Overall, had the coconut mishap not happened, I would consider them for take out or delivery, but as it stands, I would not go back! -

my friend (almost all moved in! yay!) still doesn't have any pots or pans.. so i make the trek over to her place to pick up some grub for her and i. decided to walk along broadway to get some inspiration..
as i near her place, i still haven't picked anything up...yikes! i pass on earls..cactus club (wanted something different)...eyed a vietnamese place but walked pass before i made up my decision...thought about pasta but remembered pasta doesn't agree with me now...even thought about chinese (but that would be total utter desperation!)
aahh!! indian! i have always wanted to give this place a go..
i was greeted immediately by the hostess who was cleaning menus by the door. i asked for takeout and she said no problem. then she sorta went back to cleaning the menus...after a pause, she asked if i needed a menu..uhm, yah-i think that would be the customary way to order takeout isn't it?
she hands me one over and says i can take a seat by the bar while i decide. i chose the tandoori chicken and kofta naram dil, both made into full dinners (which would include rice, naan and daal.
the hostess was very diligent with whatever she was doing with the menus...because she never came back to me (mind you, i was literally beside her because that is where the bar is..)- so i get up and ask her if i need to see a waiter to order? she says that she could do it... =P
i pay for it..and then she says it'll be about 30 - 35 minutes. oh my god! that seemed so long! it ended up not taking that long though...maybe 20-25 mins.
while i waited, i noted that the dining area is extremely classy looking. there were only about 3-5 groups inside on a holiday night... maybe less, maybe more, i wasn't paying too much attention. the hostess brought me a glass of water while i waited. she was nice...
tandoori chicken- quite nice. i think i read that its actually a cornish hen? or maybe i read wrong....i dont know. they only served the leg and thigh portion, no breast. boo. but the taste was great. not the best ive had though.
kofta naram dil (a dumpling full of cheese and vegetable in a creamy delicious cashew sauce)- oh my god, this was soooo goooood!! when i opened it, i was a little disappointed that there were only 3 dumplings, but they were quite a hefty size...so it worked out perfect. i doused my rice and naam with this sauce, it is SOOO good. finger licking good.
naan was awesome. even as it cooled it was still soft. the daal was great too, not too runny or watery like some places.
i am happy with this place =) if i ever do pick up again, i think i'm going to do it online....i just noticed that they offer 20% OFF online orders!! d'oh!!!! -

Dining room is beautiful, but was never full, not even on a Saturday night. And sort of strangely formal, for the price level. Everyone was in jeans in this very formal diningroom. No tablecloths, but marble floors and soaring ceilings.
Food was so-so, not very interesting. I had the Lamb Rogan Josh, and a Mango Lassi.
But the reason why I won't go back: I was violently ill later that night--so much pain! My intestines were in pain for days afterwards. It's the worst food poisoning I've had in years. No way I would risk that much pain again for such mediocre food. -

like their food, but server not too great. Asked for advice regarding types of curry, not much was given, not that friendly, and i know he has been working there for a long time. Had him few times and same service. Busers were not that nice either. 'finished?" weird look "not yet" walked away.
food 4 start
service 1-2 star
like the music and the restaurant -

This is my favorite Indian restaurant in Vancouver in this price range ($13-$20 for dinner entrees).
The wine list is decent and the food is excellent. It is not too salty or greasy. The Palak Paneer is perfect. The desserts are well done and not too heavy. I liked the Naan, but purists may find it too close to pita.
The only negative thing I could say is that the portions (particularly the appetizers) are a little small.
The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated with high ceilings and large flower displays. The tables aren't too close together making it a comfortable place to sit with friends and talk. It would also work for a more casual business dinner. -

i wasn't too impressed by Maurya... they had a Sunday Brunch buffet there that was okay and i definitely have had better elsewhere. The only thing i liked was the Mango Lassi.

The Maurya I remembered (circa 2005) was a lot better than the one I tasted this weekend ... I was quite disappointed with Maurya circa 2008 ... the food and the service have definitely gone to the same direction as the stock market ... painfully downhill... it took more than twenty minutes to get the waiter to notice us ... and another half an hour get our order out ... (and we were only a party of four) .... the food is just ... not that good... the butter chicken and the bread basket were above average, and worth coming back for ... but the halibut was bland .. there's no traces of that Indian complex flavors .. the malai kofta was salty and the spices didn't blend ok ... the lamb was not that memorable either ... overall... i think Maurya is capable of doing much better .. especially with its price range
