I was excited to check out this Ontario Early Years Center with Kai and I figured it was pretty exclusive since I had to register a week in advance because the coordinator insisted that the spots fill up fast - and of course I believed her, its a free program and new parents are pretty cheap!
When I arrived, I noticed a stack of strollers outside the center, turns out you can't take yours in, so if you're visiting this place make sure you bring a stroller lock. I didn't so I stuffed mine behind strollers that looked distinctly more expensive in hopes that if someone was to come a stealin' that they wouldn't look for mine first! If you happen to have one of those expensively obnoxious strollers make sure to leave it at home.
Inside the area is fairly small but can more than accommodate 10 parents and their kids. Despite the fact that "space was limited" only about 6 parents showed up, so if you call and ask if there is space, just make sure to call about an hour before and chances are you'll be able to drop in. There are snacks in the back if you're willing and lots of baby friendly toys and books.
The coordinator is knowledgeable and friendly, she'll lead you in discussions, encourage networking with the other parents and lead you through singing time. They also often have a Toronto Nurse come in to answer questions about development and they have infant CPR workshops and literacy workshops.
However, unless you're really itching to get out of the house, take the kids somewhere else until they're around crawling age - since there's not too much for kids 6 months and under to do.Listed in: The East End Mom
