Men's healthcare and grooming can be a serious business when the guys give it some effort and look beyond their tiny section in Shoppers Drug Mart, or even their token corner of skin products in Sephora. Your horrid Axe sprays and no-name shaving creams, your benzene-smelling colognes and pore-clogging soaps - throw them out and head over to Masc!

I had done some Internet research in the spring to find Canadian retailers of a certain product I was interested in trying out. Let's just say Calgary is nowhere on that list, but Vancouver is. Conveniently, we were heading there in July for a friend's wedding! And double conveniently, when the hotel booking came back and we saw its location (corner of Davie and Howe Streets), it turned out Masc was a three block walk away. And once we actually got settled in the hotel, its central location and within-walking-distance-of-everything usefulness was truly revealed

Located within minutes of most everything in downtown Vancouver, Masc is a deceptively small but charming and neatly organized paean to men's grooming; a quick browse at their online store will alert you to the vast variety of product, and most included a little tutorial video hosted by co-owner Jamie, who was working when I strolled in. Needless to say, I was slightly starstruck; he was friendly and left me to browse.

As a fan of organization, this place is paradise. Perfectly stocked and uncluttered, it exudes a gentle minimalism and soothing aura; if I had time, I could have browsed and tested for hours on end. Alongside familiar products like Jack Black (massively expanded with products I'd never seen in Sephora), there were products by Kyoku (with all sorts of Japanese dirt and minerals inside), Canadian-made Euoko, eShave, MenScience, and Malin + Goetz. Alongside shampoos and body washes and shaving utensils (from the scrubs all the way to the straight razors), there are fragrances, teeth kits, foot lotions, beard care and even fragrant candles. For a guy who loves variety in his products and trying new things, it is a little corner of paradise.

In the end, I went home with:
    - Kyoku For Men lava masque
    - Kyoku For Men shaving kit (I couldn't decide which one product, so I got the travel-sized kit with facial scrub, shaving cream and aftershave. The first and third are among the best I've tried)
    - (Malin + Goetz) eucalyptus deodorant (alcohol free and smells awesome)
    - a complimentary Kyoku For Men lip balm.
It could have been much worse damage, but thanks to Yelp, I got 10% off when I checked in. Until I get my next chance to stop in, I will frequent their website and order my grooming products from them, and perhaps look to opening a store here in Calgary. Business venture?

    What can I say?

First of all Patrick and Jamie are on the ball whether buying gifts for others or others buying gifts for me  :)

They have recommended the best for daily skin care and the ONLY razor in mens grooming that does not cause any grief...  Gentlemen you know what I mean.

Strong supporters of events and the community and for this I recommend Masc to anyone looking for mens total grooming care...

I recently visited Masc for the second time since it opened a few years ago.  Yes, I know it's a shop for men's skin care, but I was in Vancouver with some girlfriends and we "crashed the party" to visit Jamie, who is my cousin (full disclosure!).

We enjoyed looking at the inventory and Jamie of course knows his stuff like no one else.  The first time we wandered in, we hung out for a bit, tried a few of the samples, and then went about our day.

One of my friends had sampled a hand lotion that she RAVED about all day long; so we went back for Round 2 and all of us came away with purchases!  My friend and I bought the hand creme (which I now keep on my desk at work and use every day), and another friend purchased a shaving creme for her husband.

The shop is small but bright and modern.  The location is perfect, central to much of downtown and within walking distance of pretty much everything.  And Jamie and Patrick have made it a point to become experts - NOT just on men's skin care products, but on skin care and health in general.

Masc is DEFINITELY worth a visit if you're ever in the area!  Plus, I have it on good authority that they have an online shop, which is where I'll be buying my hand creme when my current supply runs out.

I luv a good mens shop.  This one delivers for sure.  They have anything and everything to do with mens grooming and I want it all!  I have decided that I am tired of shaving with the usual Mach 3's and want to move back to a more traditional way of shaving with an actual razor  such as the Merkur Heavy Duty Double Edge Razor which .... you guessed it...... can be found here.   Your asking why I would want to do this and it's for a couple of reasons 1) it's greener 2) It's a complete throw back to the ol' days and reminds me of my gramps.
The list of brands is endless and includes companies such as Malin + Goetz, Euoko, Jack Black, Sharps,  and my favorite Marvis.
*their sample happy so don't be afraid to ask and try something out.

I had a fantastic reintroduction to Masc today. Jamie took the time to show me the selection of items they had to offer. I learned about shampoo and face wash, moisturizer and shaving cream - and all the great brands on offer. I went home with a selection which excites me...Malin+Goetz moisturizing shampoo (to keep my scalp clean and shiny), a few samples of Geo. F. Trumper shaving cream (almond and sandalwood flavours), and rum-scented soap (also from Malin+Goetz). I'm looking forward to showering and shaving this weekend!

So, go to Masc. Jamie and Patrick will take good care of you. I will definitely be back as my other cosmetic products start to dwindle - and I can't wait! Thank you both for taking time with me - it is much appreciated!

Masc Skincare is a great shop with excellent service.  They carry a number of product lines that are very difficult to find in Vancouver like Malin+Goetz, and also carry safety razor supplies for those of us who prefer an old-fashioned shave.

Very knowledgeable staff who don't hesitate to load you up on samples.  Check it out if you feel like pampering yourself a bit!

It's about time men's skincare got a bit of attention. Masc for men's owners Jamie and Patrick have been incredibly helpful in helping me find the right products for my skin. I fell in love with the Malin and Goetz product line and fragrances immediately. I definitely recommend Masc to guys and girl if your looking for the best skincare products out there at reasonable prices!

Skin care products for men....how simple is that? Great products and knowledgeable owners. These guys offer good advice and sell only top line products including an organic line from Australia. I used to be a Kiehls guy but now I wouldn't go anywhere but Masc. Haircare products as well. Easy to get to location on the Edge of Yaletown.....check it out!

Masc is a unique skincare shop that carries awesome products.   This shop specializes in men's skincare but there are tons of  great products for  women too.  I would recommed the euoko products.   Jamie and Patrick are very knowledgable about skincare.  If you are a man do yourself a favor and go pick there brains for some great tips on smooth shaving.

Men have skincare needs, too!  And this store caters to all of them.  With their hip, yet manly looking logo, you couldn't possibly mistake this store for anything but a haven of products for real men who know that their skin needs some lovin' too.  So, come here if you are looking for lotions, shaving needs or anything else that might pamper your own, or your guy-friend's cheeks.  The store itself is tastefully done, and the people who work there will be happy to help you navigate the world of masculine beauty products.
