Makes a great homestyle full breakfast.
Greasy sausage, eggs, toast. hash browns and coffee for less that $7.00 tax in.
Service with a smile and cosy.
I look forward to trying other items on their menu -

Mary's Place has been on my "list" of places to try for a while - I love going out for breakfast/brunch, but due to budget constraints, I don't do it that often. So, I finally got to see what this place was all about a couple of weeks ago when they boy and I were looking for a fast, cheap, filling breakfast in the 'hood on a lazy Saturday morning.
Mary's is just your basic mom-and-pop diner - small, nothing fancy, been there forever. It was full when we arrived, but we lucked out and got a booth (we went later in the morning - I think around 11:30 - so I supposed it's a bit less crazy at that time). We noticed a pretty steady stream of people going in and out, so it's obviously popular.
And it's obviously geared toward fast food - the menus are on the table and our food arrived quickly. It was nice that we had our pick of lunch/dinner entrees as well as breakfast (nice to have options!). And the prices are awesome (you can easily get a huge breakfast for under $10 including coffee).
Honestly, I have had better food - my main complaint is that the hash browns were not thoroughly cooked. Many of the larger chunks were hard on the inside. I realize with a small place geared toward speed, you are not going to get a fancy meal, but it was a little disappointing, especially considering my enduring love for hash browns.
However, the spice on the taters was nice. Plus, I realize with a small diner like this geared toward speed, you are not going to get a fancy meal. The service was fast and friendly, we got a lot of food for the price, it was cozy, and everything besides the taters were cooked fine - so, what more can you ask for from such a place?
I will go back to Mary's again if I want a fuss-free breakfast in a hurry. I just won't expect to be blown away. -

While I love the idea of being able to order breakfast all day, the food was just meh. I had the croissant cheese omelet with potatoes on the side.
While the waitress was fairly quick there wasn't much in the way of politeness but to be fair the diner had a steady flow of customers. -

This place used to be my favourite place to eat breakfast. Food was consistent and it was $5 taxes in for everything. Now, since the expansion, the quality of food has gone down, and it is up to $7 for the breakfast and you do not get both coffee and orange juice. It unfortunate that the expansion to two locations hurt their quality and price so much.

I went to Mary's Place for the first time and would not go back again. The coffee was terrible and when I switched to tea, it wasn't hot and very weak. I was not impressed with the food at all and wasted most of what I paid for. There is a lot of competition in this city so for me I'll just go elsewhere.

I have a serious soft spot for local diners that are no frills, no fuss, and provide me with a good 'n hearty helping of my most favourite meal: breakfast.
Mary's Place Cafe is a great little diner on Robie street that reminds me o a very similar diner I remember from childhood in the small town I grew up in. The cook stands in the kitchen and waves a hello as you walk in, the server can hear you across the way and anticipate your need of more ketchup or coffee before you even ask, and the breakfast plate delivers exactly what you expect: Fine "diner" quality eats in a timely fashion.
The location itself has all the charm of a curiosity shop with various artifacts scattered about, but the chalkboards on the wall display a neat and tidy list of delicious recommended fare. Vegetarians are cared for very well here, with lots of veg options.
My only disappointment on this particular visit was that they were out of the Vegan Milkshakes - one of the key decision making factors for me when I opt to dine here! No matter - I'll be back soon. -

There's something just oh-so perfect about a no-frills breakfast joint, isn't there?
This morning I kicked off the week by having the most important meal of the day at this delightful Robie Street diner. At eight in the morning, we had our pick of seats which made for the perfect environment to have a great brekkie without the noise, hustle and bustle of your average Cora's.
The menu is huuuuuge with at least two pages of legitimate breakfast choices. I had good intentions of going healthy but was too entranced by the Croissant Cheese Omelet to retain any discipline. This two-egg omelet was sandwiched in between a light and flaky pastry with tomatoes, lettuce and egg on the side for assembly.
I think the accoutrements may have been a special touch from the server who overheard me mentioning that I probably should have gone with the bagel breakfast sandwich that came fully loaded with vegetables. Either way, it made me feel better about being a fattypants first thing in the morning. The sandwich definitely pulled focus from the hashbrowns which were tasty but not as mind-blowingly good as a crispy potato can be. Seasoned brunchers will feel me here.
Service was prompt, fast, attentive and friendly which really pulled the whole down-home diner feel together for a fabulous breakfast destination. I'll be back to try their renowned vegan milkshake! -

I've only ever eaten breakfast here, but that's exactly why I love it. Affordable, no fuss diner breakfast with unlimited coffee refills. I love that the menu tells me it's $5.99, taxes included. I can't do math, so I like it when the restaurant does it for me.
My eggs over easy with crispy bacon was exactly what I wanted. I think it was margarine on my toast, which, when on there heavily, is not the best tasting...but it was not that bad. I had some of my friend's blueberry pancakes. They were really thick and fluffy, but totally tasty (they were really big and he couldn't finish them).
They have a breakfast club card, where your 10th breakfast is free. Free breakfast as a reward for eating a breakfast I already wanted? Yes, please.
Service was great, I didn't have to wait long to place my order or wait long for it to show up. Someone was always popping by to fill up my cup.
So why not five stars? Well, the atmosphere isn't the most amazing. It's clean and comfortable, but it's not going to blow you away with it's decor. The inside door is weird and is never closed properly after a customer comes in (myself included), which can mean a draft. But these are just niggly little criticisms that won't stop me from going back to Mary's. Especially when I have a hangover and need eggs over easy that are stumbling distance from my house. -

Dear Mary's,
I used to love you so, so much. Your breakfast was fantastic. But lately your food and service have gone out the weird double doors that nobody ever closes properly.
toast is not warm bread with butter on it
bacon need not be so thin you can see through it
over easy eggs means sunnyside up. then flipped over. not broken yolk all cooked up.
homefries shouldn't be chewy.1 Previous Review: Show all »

No frills indeed, not even half a frill!
I envy these people who are raving about the unlimited coffee refills. Once the greasy breakfast was dropped in front of me that was the last I've seen or heard from that waitress. My BF even asked for a refill of our coffee as she was blowing past us. We got an eye roll but no refill, before finally giving up and leaving.
greasy food you come to expect from a local diner but it usually comes with curteous service and copious refills of coffee - This place is not one of them. Definitely don't recommend this place. -

Mary's offers an assortment of yummy Middle Eastern and classic Western dishes. Its a casual little venue that offers great prices and a relaxed atmosphere.
Still early on in our relationship, I'm confident Mary and I will have many future times together. I can appreciate its quality veggie offerings amongst the heartiness of burgers, sandwiches, and platters of comfort food. Breakfast/ brunch will appeal to many, as the selection and price prove to be an easy hookup.
Its quick, friendly, and delicious. No-frills, and no fuss; this little diner has old school appeal, with a certain extra flavour. -

Down around the corner of Almon and Robie, just down the way form the ancient Mr. Transmission there is a little place called Mary's Place.
Another great, typically tiny, Halifax gem. At Mary's you can get honest, home-cooked favourites as well as some middle eastern dishes. I have had alomost everything on their menu and now that I have discovered I have Celiac Disease, I am delighted that I can still eat there and have most of what's on the menu. I personally recommend the garlic home fries.
While the decor is a little shabby, the place is a tad run-down. It hardly makes a difference as it's clean, the staff are friendly and cheerful and often laughter comes from the kitchen. I have never seen a frownie face when I been there.
Mary's has been for as long as I can remember. I can't imagine Robie Street without it. It's cozy, right there but out of the way, and there is a HUGE (rubber tree?) plant growing in the window. My mother always says "where green things thrive, hearts are alive and shining"

Mary's serves up hot Serbian eats along with your everyday Canadian fare. You'll find options ranging from simple sandwiches to delightfully flavorful Mediterranean dishes like foul, dips and falafel.
Mary's is a diner - it's quaint and comfy and gets the job done. I always order the combo platter: 3 delicious picks for about $8. Plus, I never miss out on the garlic sauce, which I get on the side so that I can dip and enjoy as I see fit. It's very tasty, but if you're offended by garlic breath you may want to save it for a day you plan on hanging out alone.
Mary's is open hecka-early and serves dinner as well. Be warned, they are not open on Sundays so get your fill of fatouch and other delights the other 6 days of the week.Listed in: Let's Get Greasy

Always driving bye and wondering what this place was like and never took the opportunity to stop in. Often seeing people in there all the time I finally convinced my co worker to walk up and get some lunch with me. First come first serve at this little hot spot
What a little gem this place is small but cozy. Offering a wide range of yummies on the menu from clubs to burgers they as well have some of the "healthy" selection. This day I was in the mood for a cheeseburger and fries and boy was I impressed. For under $10 bucks I had one of the best homemade burgers. This is a definite go back. I think since i started this I gained 10 lbs
