Rent. Love. Return is Marquee's motto. I just like to think of it as the place that made me decide never to go to Blockbuster again. When I moved to the area I was a bit sad about leaving the Black Dog Video area, and Queen Video on college is just a little far (and nothing I want to see is ever in).
I cannot believe I didn't find this place sooner! Just the right amount of new releases, with a perfect ratio of bad but entertaining blockbusters to great documentaries and indie flicks. Setting up an account is painless and quick and I've never had an issue finding something to rent. A lot of the older films are categorized by director which I love - it's like the perfect "If you like this movie, you'll like these too" system.
They have a few snacks, ice cream and espresso (!!) here as well.

I once walked into Marquee Video with a group of my best friends, one dressed as David Bowie in Labyrinth. The plan was to rent Labyrinth and ask the guy behind the counter where we could find Labyrinth (cuz we really didn't know). His reaction was casual, but appreciative, "are you guys having a Labyrinth party?" (not quite so specific, it was Bowie-themed, for the curious).
Appreciation is what I feel for the always cool staff who have generously overlooked- or at least reduced- one or two of my ridiculously drawn-out late fees, and are usually watching something interesting on the TV behind the counter (also projected on a large screen right by the entrance, which I noticed for the first time a couple days ago).
The selection is surprisingly large for its size (with a Criterion section I am slowly and happily working my way through), the interior is welcoming and so comfortable that I have sat here for 2 hours drinking coffee at least once. Did I mention that they have an espresso machine and even an ice-cream freezer? During the freezing, lazy winters I have spent in this neighbourhood, I can find fuel for my hibernation with minimal ease and enough ambiance to feel like I'd been somewhere interesting-- even if it was in my pajamas. What more can a movie-lover ask for? -

Friendly and comfortable atmosphere, serving the best espresso/cappucino/latte/americanos around, free popcorn, kid friendly, dog friendly, pop and chips and other snacks, graphic novels for sale, ice cream AND a fun and diverse movie selection. The owner is personable and knows everything there is to know about the movies.
I wish I lived across the street from Marquee Video.
