I've been going here exclusively for about 4-5 years now and I've spent the last 2 years studying in another country. My stylist's name is Sam. She is AWESOME. I've never had a complaint with her. I usually go in with a picture of what I want and Sam is always able to reproduce it or improve upon it. She's great at letting me know what's best for my hair  and is always willing to show me how to style my hair.

The rest of the staff is really nice too! The prices aren't bad. I started going there when San was still apprenticing and she was offering free services. Now I pay about $55+tax and tip and no complaints. She's that good. I've recommended her to family and friends and they have no complaints either!

Bit of history as to why I'd downrate like this:

About three weeks ago I needed a haircut for a job interview, and having stopped by Markus J Hair before and been satisfied with what they do (haircuts for guys usually result in getting everything buzzed), decided to make another visit. Because it was short notice (day of), I wasn't able to get the hairdresser I'd had last time - understandable, and they'd mentioned that the price would be a bit more than usual. However, upon arriving after the half-hour commute, I was informed of the price increase from around $35 to almost $60. Wow, bit much for a guys haircut and quite a jump. But I needed it done, didn't have a ton of time to find somewhere else that was competent, and they managed to convince me by telling me about their trim program: that I could, for the next two to three months, phone in every two-three weeks and ask for a trim so my haircut would be maintained until the next cut. This meant I wouldn't need cuts every month, and was the justification for the price. I would be slotted between other customers, and just had to phone in. So that's what I did today.

When I phoned in and asked to get a trim, mentioning that I wasn't entirely sure how the whole scheduling was arranged but it was one of the "in-betweens" before my next cut with Mona, I was asked how soon I could get to their location. I said that I had a bit of things to take care of, but I could be any time after two hours. They replied saying there was an opening in an hour, so I said that I would make it work since they were scheduling me between other customers.

After arriving, I found out that Mona wasn't working that day. This raised a few questions, but since her husband Yung is also an owner, I figured he was going to do it to cover for her. Then I was directed to the hair wash station, where I raised the question as to why they were doing all this when I was only supposed to be getting an in-between trim. The employee just told me to mention that to Yung when I got in the chair. I waited for a few minutes for him to finish with the lady before me, after which I told him that I'd come from an in-between trim like Mona had mentioned and only wanted a bit off the front and the neck cleaned up. So he started doing that, but then moved everywhere else and was doing a whole lot more than what I would've normally considered a trim. Not knowing what a "trim" entails, I just went with it. Having other plans today, it was a little annoying because I thought I'd be in and out, but it seemed like he was trying really hard to do a good job and I didn't want to complain about quality service.

Then came the bill. $34. When I stated that I only wanted one of the in-between trims that were supposed to be included with my last $60 haircut, I received the answer "But you have to understand that was quite a bit more than a trim". Obviously I wasn't getting through, so I paid and left. Almost a hundred dollars spent on haircuts for a month? Ripoff, and I feel taken advantage of.

    /rant

It's a shame, the owners seemed like a nice couple, but I am not impressed by the way they conduct business and will not be going back.

Let me be the first to tell you how great this place is.  I've been to top hair design studios from San Francisco to Los Angeles, to Hong Kong and Japan, and I'm pretty sure that this place ranks on the top of my list. Personally, I don't live in Vancouver.  But everytime I come back to this city I make it a priority to get a haircut there.  The reason? Mona Leung - the artistic director.  Whether you're looking for a conservative, clean cut, or a total make-over, Mona never cease to disappoint.  Everytime I walk out after getting a cut from Mona I'm a happier person.  The cut she gave me is second-to-none in terms of creativity or fitting the description.  How many times you've walked into a salon and tell your stylist that you wanted one cut but ended up getting something else?  Well, if you let Mona do her job, you won't be disappointed.

Plus, the overall hip decoration and the friendly attitude of the staffs are just icing on the cake.

I'm still in search for a regular salon since I've moved here... this is the 4th place I've been to since moving out and oveall I was pretty happy!  Came here for the first time last week... it looked cute when I had walked by previously and it's next to DB (the new Lumiere/Feenies since Feenie left).

Great location with plenty of free street parking (always a bonus!)  Service was friendly and the salon is clean with a nice selection of products.  I use some Bumble and Bumble and they carry this line, along with some others like Rene Furterer.  They seem to mostly use B&B during your visit.

I had a pretty young stylist, Loretta, who did a nice job on my modified "Pob" (yes, I still love this cut :)

Cons were that she was a bit slow, but otherwise I was happy.  Nice green tea here.  The heated toilet seats in the bathroom were unique!  LOL... nice way to warm up on one of the few snowy days in Vancouver :)
