Review from Jessica O.
Vancouver, BC
The most decorative Art Deco Building in Vancouver, this is a pure joy to visit. Most travel guides to Vancouver encourage tourists to visit this beautiful tower and marvel at it inside and out, but few locals know that not only is it open to the public it welcomes looky loos with open arms!
My suggestion is to head inside and take the elevators to the second floor - that is where the best views of the stunning lobby can be found. An interesting note - the intricate ceiling was carved on site.
Spend some time here, delving into its history and fabled connection to the Guinness family (yes, THAT Guinness family) and just soaking up its eerie beauty. You won't be disappointed!Listed in: My Very Favourites

The Marine Building is Vancouver's art deco delight. Built in the Great Depression, the sky scraper ended up going way over budget and then selling for less than half of what it cost to build. But that's doesn't show in the beauty of the building.
The lobby and elevators of the Marine Building are adorned with myriad mystical sea creatures. Sea horses, snails, seaweed, and crabs crawl over the walls next to intricately inlaid wood. The great brass elevators evoke an elegant pre-WWII era.
Although the Marine Building once towered over downtown and the waterfront, it's now dwarfed by the Bentall towers. But the gorgeous design and decor still rises above all other buildings downtown.
For anyone needing a time-escape in Vancouver, I strongly suggest walking on in and taking an elevator up to a randomly picked floor. -

Any fan of architecture or the marine world has to enter the lobby. Just walk in and you are in one of the most ornate surviving art deco buildings in the world and we have it downtown Vancouver. I want an office in the building I don't know what for BUT I WANT IT....... ok tantrum over. When you're in the neighbourhood drop in.
