Review from Leo Y.
I had the beef tartar dinner and it was great. It's hard to compare to other restaurants since I've only seen the beef tartar as an appetizer, and even then it's very rare to find on a menu. The menu is very vast with protein options ranging from fish to beef to pork to mushrooms, and then some. There were two soups, numerous appetizers, and a pleasant desert menu as well. The choice of wines, beers, and liquor was more than ample.

Eastern European standards here are solid - sausage, schnitzel, goulash, paprikash...
Everything else is questionable. Except the beer.
Fantastic quasi-Celtic chamber music every Wednesday night, at least when I was in town. -

When I was at the Marienbad, the entire restaurant was booked to celebrate a friend's birthday. The decor of the place was decent, more traditional looking and the Ambience was overall relaxing.
The menu we got was a set lunch menu, you can choose from fish and chips or chicken wrap and the dessert was brought in by the family members of the birthday girl.
The food was very average but the portions were decent size. I had the chicken wrap it tasted a bit dry, I had salad in place of fries and it was very boring with balsamic dressing.
I don't know what the menu is like, but based on the food I had here, I would say it was very good.
Overall, group gatherings at the Marienbad is more for the social factor then good food. I don't recommend coming here. -

Friends and I used to drive up from Sarnia to have their BEEFSTEAK TARTAR. We did that in the days of where you had to sign a waiver to order it (it's raw shaved tenderloin with a raw egg, capers, onion and garlic toast.) If you're not that adventurous, don't let the steak tartar scare you away. Their soups of the day are divine (including the house carrot soup); have one with a warm spinach and potato salad or one of their many schnitzels. There is a large selection of imported beers available and if you find your plate empty but plenty in your pint glass, nip over to the other side, a bar called "CHAUCERS" where the same menu is available (food and drink) but if you're lucky it will have turned into an old style piano bar. If that's the case, cozy up to the fireplace and stay the evening for another couple pints,

The longevity of this London restaurant is well deserved; we have been patrons for more than 20 years!
Why is it one of our favourite places to dine?
--the serving staff are polite, fast & friendly, offering a warm, genuine welcome;
--consistently good food, reasonably priced;
--the wine list is not extensive, but sufficiently diverse;
--cocktails are not priced by Toronto standards;
--very comfortable, pleasant decor (ask for a window seat, if available);
--location, within walking distance from our home, on a side street in downtown London.
The Czechoslavakian house specialties are schnitzel (with a number of varieties to choose from) & goulash soup. The daily specials are imaginative & usually offer fish & pasta options.
We're not beer drinkers, but I understand the selection of European beers is broad. -

After traveling the eastern block of Europe, I came back to London & had cravings for Wienerschnitzel and Goulash. This is the only restaurant in town that has anything close to the real deal. Great selections of European beers too.

Great place if you're in the mood for some Euro-style (food, not the apartment).

My work's Christmas party was held here at the Merienbad this year, it was upstairs in the fireplace room so I can't speak much for the actual restaurant itself, but the setting was rather nice, although a little crowded but that explainable because it was a Christmas party event. But anyways for how many people that were there the service was very fast, food all came out at the same time, we had a starter of mixed greens salad with a rather interesting dressing, not too sure exactly what is was but it was good. Main entrée was schnitzel which was amazingly good and chicken breast with garlic potatoes and mixed greens, again the food was really good and cooked to perfection. Dessert was some kind of chocolate vanilla mash up cake, but again it was really good. All in all the food was pretty good and I'll probably have to come back to try some more of their eastern European specialties including the goulash, oh and they have Stella on tap! So that was a bonus in my books.
