ok so... how impressive can breakfast be right? eggs, bacon, sausage, pancake, hash browns... well throw in an AMAZING corned beef hash (the "I"- yes, u get all of the above), a cup of good joe, & a water, which I didn't have to ask for, all for under $10. mad impressive!!! BTW if they ask you if u want onions- you say "yes". considering I threw down the same amount of chips at Fourbucks, I mean Starbucks, just a few days prior for a mediocre breakfast sandwich, latte, and water? Marcy's is absolutely mind blowing for breakfast... don't skip this place if your in Portland! the special for the day... M&M pancakes, Meatball Marinara Omelette... hello?! wish I had the stomach room 2 try those things. the owners/staff are super friendly as well as the patrons. heck if I had the dough I'd transfer Marcy's straight to SoCal. I couldn't finish it all, mainly the
pancake and hash browns, but that was my stomachs fault, not the food I've traveled to my share of places... hands
down one of the best bangs for your buck, period.
ps I love Yelp once again for getting me
here, but I'm a little peeved that I could've come here more than once on my trip because Yelp had the outdated hours/days open. it's open 7 days a week... Yelp u get a mobile app 1 star for wrong information -

Methuen, MA
This was my favorite place when I lived in Portland in the late '80s to early '90s, back when Joely was still a waitress (instead of the now-former owner, it seems), Marcy her bad self owned the place, and I was falling in (unrequited) love with Michaelene with every visit (and the visits were nigh on daily).
Even Hollis, the high-energy busboy from the competing DiFillipo's Ye Olde Pancake Shoppe up Congress Street a piece, used to eat there with some frequency. High-stakes cribbage, cheap tasty eats and (back then) cigarette smoke was the order of the day.
Good to see not much has changed about the quality. Can't wait to get back up there. -

The only downside to this place is how small it is! Limited seating means longer wait times. So the question is... is it worth the wait? YES! Food might be 'standard' like aunt jemima pancake batter and regular toast but the way it is prepared makes it taste so good!
One woman cook who uses a grill that looks packed full of flavored aka hardly cleaned, mmmm! So you know your foods going to taste good.
Oh yeah, cash only so be sure to bring some! -

Portland, ME
We were walking past this place yesterday on the way to my boyfriend's graduation and decided we were going to have celebratory brunch there the next day and im so glad we did! upon walking in we were greeted by the owner and his staff, and the service was excellent. they immediately helped us, talked a little bit of hockey with the owner and it was like we weren't even in portland anymore. this diner had a small town feel to it, so it was super comfortable and felt like home. to be honest, im not a fan of breakfast, but this place is so good that we're going to go back every sunday from now on.. the french toast and homefries were incredible, sausages were huge and the eggs cooked perfectly. the owner was even nice enough to bring out his entire stockpile of hotsauce for my boyfriend (it had to have been about 20 bottles). overall this place is amazing, we both had a huge breakfast and it came to only $15..

Portland, ME
First 5 star rating I have given . Sooooo deservedly so !!! The food is great , prices amazing , wait staff are super efficient !! The place is super small so be prepared to wait on a weekend or Holiday ! Also they only take cash so please stop at the ATM before coming !! Very casual atmosphere with a biker motif ( what I got out of it ) What amazed me most was watching all the employees working in synch behind that tiny counter where ALL the magic happens !!! I mean dish washing , cooking , register, coffee ,and food distribution all happen behind the sit down bar !!! As my friend Kristen B . said please tip well , they work very hard and you will see that !!!

Campbell Hall, NY
This was one of the few places open on New years day for breakfast, while having a lengthy wait it was well worth it. While only having a handful of counter seats and about four booths it had the feel of your grandmothers old house and a waffle house. Waffle house reference because of the visible grill and grandmothers house because of the home cooking. I enjoyed my hot corned beef sandwich on wheat with a spicy mustard spread while friends enjoyed a hearty serving of biscuits and gravy. The crowd seemed top be very diverse as well as the staff from rockabilly, blue collar, tourist, to students at the local dance school. The food was great and filling. Worth the wait if you are in the area.

This place is historic and a landmark even. It's old and hasn't been kept up particularly well, but it does the job. There's always a wait for breakfast. Because it's good, you ask? Perhaps, but also because there are only 4 booths and about 10 counter spots. The grill is directly behind the counter as is everything else, so you're gonna see everything that's going on whether you want to or not. Our breakfast was surprisingly less greasy than I imagined, and rather good. I recommend for a weekend morning breakfast.

My favorite diner. I like the cozy setting and the esprit de corps that I saw both times I've been. Breakfast in Portland ME is my favorite meal. Don't miss it!

Great breakfast and excellent, super friendly service. We headed out intending on going to Bayou Kitchen to discover it is under renovation. I was not as excited about Marcy's as the menu was not super dynamic. And, yes, the menu is mostly straightforward, traditional breakfast fare - but everything was great! Not sure what they are doing different, but even the scrambled eggs stood apart from most others I have had before. Husband loved his biscuits and gravy; pancakes (something I'm super picky about) were great. Even my 7 year old ate more then she normally ever does. All around great pick for breakfast in Portland!

mMmmMm.. you will leave here happy, full, and a little greasy! Although I don't frequent diners often, so far, this one is my favorite overall.
The boy and I stopped here Saturday morning around 7am. Heard this small place gets crowded and since we both woke up super early, we decided this would be the time we try Marcy's.
Love the diner, motorbike feel of the place. In addition to coffee ($1.50), we ordered the breakfast plate of 2 eggs over-easy, sausage, toast, and homefries ($4.75), and the corned beef hash, 2 sunny-side eggs, and toast breakfast ($6). It was just what I needed. 3 choices of hot sauce, plenty of ketchup, butter, and jelly/jam.
The staff was incredibly friendly and happy, despite it being so early (I think they open at 6am)! Our coffee and water were always filled. -

Very glad to have found this place (on Yelp, and also down the street from my hotel). Make sure you get a grilled muffin -- carrot cake w/ frosting is probably your best bet.

I love the harley-davidson theme of this place! I also love the betty boop pictures around!
We were hungry and wanted a cheap breakfast place so I yelped a few places. This was close to our hotel so we checked it out. It looks like a place by our apartment in Boston so we knew we found a gem!
The breakfast menu was decently priced as nothing was over $7. I ordered the dish with eggs, sausage, homefries, and french toast (which I ordered with cinnamon and sugar!). It was absolutely delicious!!! Our server was very nice, despite how busy it got. Everyone working there had a good time and I enjoyed listening to the bantering with customers.
The rock songs coming from the radio definitely topped off the experience and kept the atmosphere lively for everyone.
I'd definitely come back for a good cheap breakfast! -

This place rocks.
Literally. Classic rock on the radio. All the decor is Harley-Davidson inspired. The prices are AWESOME as is the food. I had a combo with 2 scrambled eggs, 3 sausage links, home fries, and 3 slices of cinnamon-sugar french toast for like $6. All this with an angry looking Eagle surrounded by glitter staring at me from the table top, reminding me how much I love America.
De-freaking-licious. Honestly the only sliiight let down were the homefries which could have been cooked more and seasoned better, but everything else was so delicious, and the angry glitter eagle makes up for that like 10-fold.
I love it here, I'm so glad I live around the corner. Viva America and Harley Davidson!! -

Portland, ME
One of Portland's oldest diner's! Warm and welcoming super friendly staff, couple-owned (Darla and Doug), classic delicious greasy-spoon diner food for CHEAP prices, comfort food and home-cooked rotating specials (including stews, soups, creamed chipped beef, meatball subs, quiches, pies and muffins), great menu combos, special requests are surprisingly welcome, counter and booth seating, quick and efficient service, open SEVEN DAYS A WEEK until 2pm (new hours)!!! These folks know how to run a small diner right! Treat them right, TIP your well-deserving, hard working waitstaff WELL and then repeat!!!

Small place...good food. Went in for lunch with my wife and because of the small setting and lack of AC, it was quite hot inside. Potions were very reasonable, and the food was very good. I want to go back for breakfast on our next visit.

Very yummy and awesome environment. It is a very small place, so we had to wait quite a while. But it was worth it!
They introduced us to grilled muffins! SO YUMMY! Great breakfast food! -

Great! Very small diner with good food.
We went on a Sunday morning at about 10 and waited for about 15 minutes for a table. I had a toasted blueberry muffin and my dining partners had eggs, sausage, the works. Everyone really liked what they had and the prices were very reasonable. The wait staff was really nice and prompt. I recommend Marcy's! -

This is the quintessential greasy spoon. Cash only, quick service, no BS. Everyone is friendly, the food is good (albeit greasy spoon level), and it pulls you out of a hangover faster than you can blink.

If you're looking for typical diner breakfast food, come here. Huge portions and great prices (cheap!). The atmosphere is pretty funky and the service is great.

Milford, MA
Very good breakfast food for not a lot of money. Friendly staff, and good sized portions makes this an obvious favorite of locals. It is small, so I imagine you might have to wait on some mornings but we didn't have to wait at all. It was a little hot inside as it did not appear to have A/C, but how often do you need that in Maine?

Somerville, MA
The best diner in the city, and I take my diners very seriously.
Extremely reasonable prices (we were three people for $20 last weekend), kind and attentive staff, and tasty diner food with just the right amount of grease.
I usually get the bacon, eggs, toast, homefries combo. (It's around $4). It never disappoints; some of the homefries are crispy, some are soft. It's a match made in heaven. PLUS they don't butter your bread for you, a pet peeve of mine at a lot of diners.
My companions have branched out into muffins (fresh, homemade?) and omelettes, which they rave about as well.
The only downside is that it's fairly small, so a wait is nearly inevitable, but they turn tables quickly. On a weekend morning, this might not be the best place to mull over your Sunday paper, but if you come later in the day it starts to clear out and you can nurse your coffee.
Also, I love sitting at the counter because then I can watch the cooks manage the chaos. -

Great local place food and service will not disappoint. Had the hot sausage and peppers and found room for the grilled blueberry muffin yep I said grilled YUM!

Review from Sam N.

This is the perfect place for breakfast if you have had too many local brews the previous night. If you are the person previously described, please order the corned beef hash. It is amazing. it also comes with two eggs and some toast (you have to butter it yourself). It's under $7.
My girlfriend's vegetable quiche wasn't anything too special, but to their credit, or discredit, they were out of the 1st quiche she tried to order. I liked her home fries.
The staff is very friendly and the music is classic. The motorcycle theme previously mentioned is accurate. -
Review from Chris A.
Rochester, MN
Small and crowded, definently might have a wait. The pancakes were HUGE, I ordered a 3 stack of raspberry pancakes. They were AWESOME but it was almost too much food. The beverage options were limited, and unless you wanted coffee a bit expensive, especially relative to the food. We came away with two very filling, very good meals for less than $25.
Lot of locals/regulars, and a great husband/wife team behind the counter. -

Great breakfast joint, with an extremely friendly and welcoming staff. Breakfast was as good as home cooked, and very filling. And reasonably priced. Recommend highly! I want a grilled corn muffin next time!

Portland, ME
I used to frequent this place A LOT when I was in college. If you're a tourist looking for a place where all the locals go... This is it. A cramped little diner with a Harley-Davidson decor and rock music playing (Frank FM). I recommend their grilled muffins and a make-your own-omelet. The atmosphere is one of a kind. Expect to possible wait for a seat and definitely know that you will be leaving the place smelling like grease. Just sayin....

Review from The Daily C.
Austin, TX
This is hands-down the greatest diner in all of Portland. My favorite place to eat when I'm in town. They say that you can't fuck up a grilled cheese sandwich, but believe me, you can. Marcy's doesn't however. They make the best grilled cheese I have ever had in my life! Their breakfast is great too and the price is right. Everyone in Portland is always drooling over Becky's and then when I ask them if they like Marcy's they says "Duh, what's Marcy's?" So it gets me really steamed that everyone knows about Becky's but not Marcy's. The food here is 10 times better. No lie. And the staff is a lot friendlier. And the service is better. And quicker. You get the idea. Also, Marcy is a much prettier name than Becky. I guess I will have to do a Becky's review after this.
The only two things wrong with this place is the hours... they open at 6 am, but close at 2 pm. Also, it must still be the same exact size that it originally was when it first opened 70 or so years ago because it's small. If it's busy and you have to wait for a seat you should just order your food to go and hike up to the top of the parking garage across the street and eat up there looking out of the water.
Hooray for Marcy's!!! -

My new favorite breakfast spot in Portland. On this last trip we tried several highly rated breakfast places in Portland and Marcy's was definitely the winner. Great pancakes, great pot roast hash, and a very tasty pot pie. Warm, friendly service, and generous portions - a great value for the money. We brunched here twice during our 5-day stay. Delicious!! Looking forward to going back next year!

Greenville, SC
My wife and I were looking for a good diner-style place for breakfast while staying in Portland, and Marcy's was the perfect find. It's probably not a diner technically, but it has that feel inside. The interior is decorated with a motorcycle motif, but is very laid back and receptive to people from all walks of life. The waitresses were very friendly in this cozy, little corner restaurant. The menu is pretty "no nonsense" and features most breakfast staples, including eggs, bacon, home fries, corned beef hash, omelets, french toast, and other common items. The corned beef hash and home fries were simply amazing. The "fries" are cut fresh right behind the counter and sauteed on the main grill.
If there is any downside, it's space. There are only about 5 booths and also counter seating. We had a late breakfast (9:45 am), and we did not have to wait, but I'm sure a line forms during peak hours. Overall, this is a place that just knows how to do breakfast very well and doesn't attach a lot of glamor to it. They just do what they do well.
Another bonus is that there is a nearby parking deck with free parking for the first hour. -
Review from EB D.
Boston, MA
Love this place -the servers are awesome, so nice, attentive and keep things moving. Total family place (griddle run by a husband & wife and you might meet some of the other family members on a weekend morning). One word of advice -get their early! The BBQ kielbasa that the bf talked about all weekend was gone by the time we dragged ourselves in the other weekend. I recovered nicely with some of the biggest (and most delicious) chocolate chip pancakes I've ever had. I don't think my coffee cup was ever empty, which is rare in my experience. Marcy's is so on the regular rotation-now we just have to start getting up earlier so I can try this raved about breakfast kielbasa:)
