This ice cream is light and creamy, not too sweet. I really like how you pick a topping and they mix it in well. Beats those ice creams that already have things mixed in; for some people it may ruin the base. For the amount you get it's probably more expensive than my other favorite, Ben & Jerry's, but this just tastes fresher and not overly sweet.
Went with the Swiss chocolate with fudge brownie bits, delish.
Though the cashier didn't know whether growth hormones are in the milk/cream, it's from a Canadian dairy farm so assuming that's not the case.
Not much seating inside but the beach is across the street. -

Who doesn't like a customized ice-cream on a warm sunny day? I'm always tempted to go in for a cup of icecream when i'm in the area!!! There is typically a line up out the door at this location - especially in the summer! I love getting the Double Chocolate / Chocolate Hazelnut Icecream mixed with Crispy Crunch! YUM!!! But it seems that they have gotten rid of the Crispy Crunch in the last few months .... WHY?!?!?!? Please bring it back!!
oh! quick tip! you can mix 2 icecream flavours together if you order a Medium or Large Cone/Cup! They also have a few different waffle bowls/cones to choose from - from the original, to the chocolate / candy-dipped waffles! They make all their waffle cones and bowls in house! YUM! -
Review from Jessica B.
It looks a little like an overdone corporate Coldstone knock-off upon first glance, but I assure you it's very good. I stopped in several times and the employees were always friendly (the owner works here and is really sweet).
Plus they give you as many samples as you need (there are lots of options!), which is good news given the nearby Gelato place limits you to 3 samples for a 2-scoop cone-- what the heck??? I have to like 2 out of 3 things??? Not possible. Ok, I digress.
Tons of mix-ins! I always get raspberry mix-in (good with the dark chocolate). And the waffle bowls!! How fresh! How crisp and tasty!!! I need to live closer to this place so I can get ice cream all the time!! YUM!
It's happily right next to the beach, so get some ice cream and take a stroll! You wont be disappointed!Listed in: Vancouver, BC- I love you

Review from Siri W.
WHY is this ice-cream so effing incredible? I first had Marble Slab in Victoria, so imagine my delight when I found this sucker in English Bay. I saw the line and was not swayed. No Sir, not one bit. I knew what was in there. There's gold in them thar freezers.
This is probably the best ice cream I've ever had, I'm not gonna lie. I've had a lot of it too. This place really is the best of all possible concoctions - I love cheesecake - bam, presto, cheesecake ice cream! I love candy of all kinds - hell to the yes we can give you cheesecake ice cream WITH score bits and hot fudge. And I love smashing things - while you don't actually get to do it yourself, it is very satisfying to watch.
In short, everything about this place is genius. Genius! And you are a damned fool if you don't give it a try.
Let your inner fat kid out to play - you won't be sorry ;) -

Long lineups be damned, this ice cream is worth it! So. creamy. must. not. walk. in.
Too late, it happened. It always does.
Best, best, BEST ice cream around. Or ever, actually. Yes, best ice cream ever. Sprinkles, Reeces Pieces, Oreo, nuts, chocolate chunks, all real, all delicious and all send happy endorphins to my brain. Catch me soon enough post-consumption and I may even buy you one too!
Happy eating, folks. I'm going back for more. Wait, that counts as exercise, right?Listed in: Good For Kids

Good texture to their ice cream - rich but not overly creamy. I like the concept of them mixing two flavors + toppings together for you. But most flavors were too sweet.
The only flavor I really liked was blueberry, which had a nice tart flavor. The vanilla, red velvet, green tea, and black cherry all tasted very artificial and overly sweetened. -
Review from Simon K.
The spot of choice, on the corner of Denman and Davie, facing English Bay, for an ice cream shop, you cannot ask for a better location. There are many other Marble Slab's in the city, but this one just stands out due to location and the excessive line-ups I have been a part of the times I have been here.
The creations made at this place may look 'icky' as they are smushed up on that cold slab with two metal spoons, but that costly dessert that you are paying for is quite delicious once it hits your mouth. For ice cream, and a twist to the norm, this place does it right, they let you try the flavors of the ice cream they have, and you proceed down a line up like you were at 'Subway' making a sandwich, but instead you are getting to a sweet treat.
Not much sitting inside this place, as the 'bar' and the fridges take up most of the area. There are a couple seats at the window facing out, so that you can do your people watching, and some seats outside. Just know that the beach is really a 'stone's throw away' and that most of the day and night are busy. If you are driving down here, good luck on the parking. But if you are strolling around the area, and your looking for a cold fix, come on in, and if you haven't tried it, be prepared, this thing is going to fill you up. -
Review from Evilyn T.
I biked the seawall on the one sunny day we have had so far this YEAR, and I worked myself up an appetite for ice cream. After hearing many good things about Marble Slab, I figured it was high time I checked it out.
The lineup was all the way outside of the store and them some, and I can only imagine it gets even more redinkulous as the weather gets better. I tied up my little pooch to the railing, and took my place in line. I'm not sure the wait was worth it, since a small ice cream costs up to $7, that's if you get a regular waffle cone. However, if you get a fancy cone it's at least a dollar more. So if you are having ice cream for dinner, like I did, you might as well make it worth your while. So not only am I wasting my precious time from the sun (which is important because the sun is a rare commodity in Vancouver) but I am also wasting those hard earned dollars I barely make after the government squeezes most of it out of me.
I had the cookie dough drizzle, which is probably just as fattening and delicious as it sounds. I have discovered the reasoning behind the slow moving line. They are weighing the ice cream before throwing it on a slab to add toppings to it. Seriously? You have to weigh my ice cream? What the hell kind of ice cream nazi runs this place? I understand quality control and all, but this is the FIRST ice cream shop I have EVER been to where they weigh your ice cream before they give it to you. Get fucking serious.
On the plus, they do give out frequent customer cards, which eases the pain of the whole experience a little. I doubt most of the people that get the cards ever fill them up - due to the lack of good weather, thus the lack of need for cold snacks, versus the high visitation of tourists in the area. You better believe I am going to fill up that card this summer just so I can get a free ice cream. The only thing that will need weighing by the end of summer will be my fat ass!
Also, after getting my ice cream cone, and departing for the long walk home, with the cone in one hand and the dog leash in the other, the dog decides to mark some territory on the way home, and there I am stuck trying to pick up one thing without letting the dog lick my cone, or having it fall on the ground. Have you ever tried to poop scoop with one hand? It's harder than you think, this was obviously his way of getting back at me for leaving him tied up for so long. Damn dog. -

DANGER DANGER... location proximity warning to dwelling too close.... pant size increasing....
This ice cream is to die for. Honestly I think I could go in a million times and try EVERYTHING. I love that you can create your own ice cream flavor, and they sell LACTAID! THANK THE LORD. It's a tich pricey but well worth it for a customized ice cream flavor.

The best ice cream ever! After biking the sea wall, this is a real treat! The best is the raspberry cheesecake + gram crackers. There is usually a line up but it's worth it.

Do you like ice cream with a mixture of different flavours and toppings? If you answered, yes, then Marble Slab Creamery is for you. I do find their ice cream to be average quality, like the stuff you find in the frozen area in the supermarket. However, the mixture of different flavours and the added toppings really make Marble Slab an above average taste experience.

Review from Kari C.
Marble Slab Creamery has a wide selection of flavours and even more toppings! If you can think of a type of sprinkle, candy, or chocolate bar, it's very likely that they have some, sitting in a jar and ready for love.
I went here and had chocolate ice cream, smashed up with Oreo cookies and chocolate sprinkles, in a waffle cone. The ice cream was nice, but there was nothing mindblowingly memorable about it (or the service), and the broken-up sprinkles kept scratching at my tongue like a tiny flavour cat with claws, but that's my own damn fault.
I don't remember if they accept debit or credit cards, but I was told that we had to pay in cash, which is always a bummer to find out when you don't have any on you. It could have been that the machines were down, as it would make the most sense to accept cards in a high-traffic tourist area.
It wasn't busy at all during our visit, but I wonder how they juggle things during a busy summer without having everything melt or freezing the store over. I might come back when it's hotter. -
Review from Raza M.
If you are any place nearby, icecream here is a must have. They have tons of flavours. You come up with your own flavour by mixing and matching fruits, chocolates, and jellies. Whats not to love about this place.

Review from Irena L.
It is a nice ice cream place with a ridiculous amount of choices... to mix in or not to mix in, plain or mixed flavours, frozen yogurt or ice cream, dipped cone or plain cone or a cup... too many options if you ask me. During summer months there is always a line up, in which while waiting, I change my mind a gazillion times on what will I order. Then I end up not enjoying my ice cream but thinking what to order next time...ahh endless struggles and frustrations of my life unite at this place -.-
I prefer gelato - you enter, try a couple of things, order three scoops and take two spoons pretending you will share it with someone, and that's it. And I will take gelato over ice cream anytime!
oh but btw, this ice cream is actually quite good, so give it a try -

So from what I've heard and read about the wonders of Marble Slab Creamery I will probably make a few enemies when I say this: It was only okay. Yes, they have a slew of flavours. Yes you can have toppings mixed in. But for flavour and texture it was only "okay". The flavour was like any other ice cream and in all honesty I've purchased better ice cream from the grocery store. Perhaps I'll have to try it again but I'm in no rush.

Maybe I just don't get it????!?
I pick an ice cream after a long wait behind confused customers.....it is dropped on a frozen marble slab...they add my desired toppings.... pound them into the ice cream (like they are killing cookies with a hammer!)... they scrape it off the slab and into the cone it goes!! And I have a wonderful ice cream?
The ice cream was fine...but it seems like ALOT of waiting and effort for an average ice cream?
I'm sure I'm in the minority...but give me a pre-made Tiramisu Gelato at Mondo Gelato or Dolce Amore - and I am Way HAPPIER :))) -

I am shocked and appalled by the bad reviews that seem to being coming in...I think people just need to relax and take in the experience and not get overwhelmed with all the choices..RELAX people..it;s ice cream...it;s fun..
Anyway...I had to update my review because I had another great experience..My partner had his birthday recently and all we wanted was an ice cream cake from Marble Slab,..I called to order and ask all the details..the lady on the phone was super helpful and made it a snap...you pick the ice cream base you want and as many fixin's you want..I went with the birthday cake ice cream with oreo and cookie dough....the cake for 8 people only cost $30 and was ready in a day. They wrote a personal message on the top and had it all boxed and ready to go by the time I got there..in and out..painless..and delicious!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Woohoo! this IS as good as it gets.
I get extremely excited when I discover that I might have the possibility of eating some of their delicious ice cream. I know I am a bit of an experience whore and half the fun for me is what is happening in my surroundings. Well this place delivers for sure. I like that I get to pick my own ice cream, pick my own mixings, and then watch them blend it together on their frozen marble slab.
My recipe for success is:
Birthday cake ice cream + cookie dough = DELICIOUS!
hey speaking of birthdays... I think I can't wait to get my cake from here... -

Do you scream for ice cream? If you do, you will love the Marble Slab. They have a great selection of "base flavors" (I highly recommend the cheesecake flavor, it is delicious), and from there you pick your "additives." Then one of the friend staff members mashes it all up, and you pick cup or cone. They have fancy waffle cones as well if you really want to go all out.
This place is great for random, but specific, ice cream cravings. Warning to husbands of expectant mothers - write down orders!Listed in: I Heart Ice Cream

Great pit stop for an ice cream pick me up. Servings are generous and flavor options adequate. Ample seating.
Service is ok. Place is clean and well lite. -

This place can be an absolute clusterfuck when it is busy. They could really do with some streamlining of the process. I think I was served by a total of five people none of whom seemed to realise I had just given my order. With some terrible signage as well I think I saw two or three tourists heads explode trying to figure out how it all worked.
Aside from that though how can you not love ice cream on a sunny day. The banana caramel with fresh banana was pretty damn tasty and I also devoured my raspberry cheesecake with not too much effort.Listed in: Denman Street

I frequent the "Granite Slab" whenever I go for a bike ride, rolerblade or walk along the seawall... and every time I go, there is a massive lineup that goes out the door and winds around to the other business' around the area. They have many flavours to choose from and almost every visit I try something new and sinful. I get so very full but love every minute of it. I always get a cone though, as it creates less waste! (No spoon, no plastic cup!) Whenever I get a concoction with all the fixings I feel that I have gone one step too far and feel sick to my stomach! With the $7+ per cup/cone, the least they could do is give you that special stamp card for a free cone once you have bought 10 ice creams! I am almost at my free cone! I cannot wait!

So you select your flavour ice cream and then they add your selected topping or few. The only difference I see between this and a DQ Blizzard (besides the better quality at Marble Slab of course) is the toppings are blended less, and there's a longer line up for them to do that. Although it is nice to finally see an ice cream shop on Denman with all the gelato places around, I prefer Mondo Gelato a block down.
I do miss the ice cream shop that was where the Starbucks now is at Davie/Denman. I can't recall the name but that's more my style, old fashioned ice cream and big sundaes. -

At my office we order cakes for every body's birthday and recently we ordered an ice cream cake from here. I have never tried Marble Slab's ice cream so I was looking forward to getting a little taste, just enough to whet my palate.
Ordering was a breeze. I was able to order by phone, pay with the company credit card over the phone and confirm they deliver for a nominal price of $10. In all my arranging of catering services, deliveries of cakes etc., this was the easiest. As well, when I asked for it to be delivered between 11:45am and Noon, they actually delivered between that time.
When it came time to cut into the Caramel Peanut Butter Crisp cake, I was in heaven and the whole office couldn't get enough. Luckily I am on a strict eating regimen so I used all the self control I could muster to stop myself from taking a big chunk and instead took the tiniest sliver but let me tell you, this was fantabulously delish!Listed in: The 5 Spot, Office...

Of course we went at a quarter to 12 midnight, and so we avoided any line-ups whatsoever. I was thrilled with the ice cream and the fresh sliced almonds. It was a cold windy summer night.
Our girlfriend thot pizza would be nice before, not after ice cream, so we did, and timed it perfectly to arrive at a quarter to 12 midnight, which is not an easy time to get any kind of service in Vancouver.
I was impressed with the ice cream and had some crispy crunch or something mixed in with the Chocolate Swiss and for the 2nd scoop, Ameretto ice cream with sliced almonds. Yum! It was definitely something to write home about. $6 + tax. I settle for the free cone included.
The thing I have against the Vancouver gelato cartel is that they make it so easy on themselves, making the ice cream easy to scoop. It starts to run as soon as they hand it to you over the counter. I remember the early days at ice cream parlours when the poor ice cream staff used to labor over scooping it out of the barrels, scratching and scraping, often looking over there shoulders to see if there wasn't a manager there to help make it easier. I would bring back those days. Hard ice cream is really where it's at, and it lasts so much longer. Perhaps someone can invent a super freeze device to harden up the mashed ice cream at the end. Inventors please note: it should freeze the sucker in 30 seconds to a minute.
Comes complete with cute ice cream girls and handsome boys! See, they do hire for youth and looks in Vancouver.
Actually, one scoop is enough, for the penny-pinchers. $5 + tax. This is not the anti-freeze variety of ice cream. That is why it is more.
I had the Chocolate Amaretto next time, with almonds, in a cup, obviously reliving my last experience. It was good too.
Pick your flavours ahead. I think this is the U.S. site, so we have a few extra flavours in the
West End, I think:

For those who get excited when walking into a fully-stocked candy store, well Marble Slab Creamery is the same idea, but different version for ice cream lovers.
Given the price these creamery balls of creativeness (only limited to your imaginations and...of course your wallet), and the fact that it comes in a fresh waffle cone -- simply sensational! They have got all different types of candy and nuts and such to mix in (thus the term "mixin") with your chosen flavours. From chopped walnuts to the classic cookie dough to Ferrero Rocher and Kit Kats, they would help you mix it all together. Ooh the choices! The permutations and combinations that could be made just tickles me! The order comes with one mixin included, but after that the price increases, so don't go too crazy.
The best part is...this is real ice cream, not your usual soft-serve from machines that is mostly just sugar and water. Yum!
Tip: If you can't make up your mind on which flavour to pick, you can ask them if you can have them mix two flavours together. It's worked for me for the large size (aka Big Dipper)...doesn't hurt to ask does it now? -

First off, Marble Slab Creamery if you're from the U.S. is Cold Stone Creamery. So don't expect anything crazy deviant from that mould. Still, it's newish to Vancouver and especially new to downtown so it's riding high on a lot of hype.
I must say I don't really get the hype. Maybe I haven't fully mastered the 'mixin' idea but so far I have yet to have anything that doesn't just taste like stuff crushed into ice cream. Not that there's anything wrong with that but it just doesn't really fit the 'gourmet' price tag.
Vancouver isn't necessarily known for its ice cream though so... I must admit if you want some along the beach its either this or something from Macs or 7-11.Comment from Stephanie J. of Marble Slab Creamery 3/22/2011

Honestly, who doesn't like ice cream? And at the Marble Slab Ice Creamery you can get your favourite confectionary mixed into your favourite ice cream flavour. It doesn't get much better than that for a sweet tooth like me.
The servers here scoop out your desired ice cream and whack it down on a marble slab (hence the name of the store). You then pick and choose your bits and pieces such as cookies, lollies, Reese's pieces, chocolate, or fruit and this is mashed together with your ice cream right in front of your eyes. Voila! A delicious and refreshing treat perfect for a hot and sunny day downtown by the beach. -

Creamy and flavourful, this ice cream is the best I've ever tasted. With the possible exception of real Cornish ice cream, and the ice cream made in my hometown of Biggar.
The waffle cones really add something to the experience -- they're way more than just a container for your ice cream. I had the "original cone," and was blown away by how good it was. Freshly baked, nice texture, good salty taste. Mmmm.
This place is expensive, but I'll be coming back. -

I swear this is the only place I can find Rocky Road Ice Cream with walnuts instead of almonds. And the ice cream is really good quality! Only problem is that it's about $8 for a cone, which sounds a little ridiculous to me (and what I would subtract a star for). Any one know of any super market rocky road ice cream with walnuts instead of almonds? I want.

Correct me if I am wrong but is Marble Slab the Canadian version of Coldstone? Except I think Marble Slab came first? It's pretty much the same concept of what we have in the States at Coldstone. You select your ice cream flavors and they mix them together with your add-ins on a marble slab. (Or they have creations already made if you can't make up your mind). They have a larger selection of ice cream flavors here than Coldstone...and more interesting. I had blueberry ice cream with cookie dough, oreo and white chocolate mix-ins. I KNOW. You're thinking weird combo but try it! It tastes so great!

If there is one cure for a hot day, it's a Corona. If there are two cures for a hot day, then the second is Marble Slab. Situated on Denman Street in the coveted West End, Marble Slab is the cure for a hot day at the beach, which happens to be across the street. All the ice cream is made on site and is far creamier than any of the local competition. It's all in the preparation. When your cream and candy are chosen, the staff mashes them together on an ice cold slab. This effect crystallizes the ice cream and makes brain freezing perfection. The line gets quite large in the summer months, but the management staffs the place well. One day Corona ice cream may exist, but until then Marble Slab and a cool beer are your best bet to fend off the sun. Why did I write this in November, I miss the summer.

My husband took me to Marble Slab this afternoon as a surprise (can't believe I hadn't heard of it already!). Walking in and looking at all the flavours and additions, I was completely overwhelmed - luckily, they have a list of suggested combinations to help us indecisive types!
I ordered the Willy Wonka - double chocolate icecream, chocolate chips and chocolate fudge sauce. The icecream was really creamy and they are generous with the additions. I ordered the Big Dipper, which ended up being way too much for one person (I somehow managed to almost finish it though!). My husband had strawberries and cream with oreo, which was also fantastic.
Service was friendly and quick, and the prices aren't too bad for the quantity of icecream you get. We also bought a pint of Cookie Dough Drizzle to bring home - I can't face any more icecream today but it looked fantastic and I can't wait to get into it! -

I hate writing a bad review -- but honestly, this is really below the bar for me when it comes to ice cream. I love Cold Stone Creamery, which is the chain started in U.S. But somehow as this one came across the border, it lost that CS touch. The ice cream is the traditional hard serve vanilla or other flavours that you select and then mix with a variety of cookies, chocolate, fruits and sauces. I get so confused every time I have to make a decision to get something. And for me, the bells and whistles just don't work. The flavour of the ice cream is not very good. And with three other Italian gelato places practically next door, I'd rather go there.

I can't really complain about house-made ice cream. The raspberry was delicious and thankfully your scoop came with a free topping (of which I chose fresh raspberries which may sound lame but was quite fabulous). Quite pricey though, spent about $5 on a small scoop.
