Five stars for the history, one star for the appalling state the building is in - especially when one thinks of the fates of the old Boston Garden and Montreal Forum.  The row of Canadian flags snapping in the cold wind along the roofline is a sad reminder of the old days.

    Lots of ghosts here.

Or Maple Leaf Gardens WAS as good as it got.....

Any of my trips to Toronto are not complete without at least a short trip to this legendary hockey shrine at 60 Carlton Street.  And even today, the nearby TTC Metro stop still directs you here.

The outside of the building (with the Maple Leaf flying proudly on top) still looks good and architecturally unique.  However, this old war horse has seen better days and today deserves more than being turned into a grocery store.  This amazing monument to "Hockey Night in Canada" should be preserved and transformed into a use compatible with its former "Field of Dreams" glory.

If you build it, they will come.....

During Nuit Blanche there was an exhibit in now closed Maple Leaf Gardens, and like most of the people who were in there, I looked more at the old school seats and historic arena's features than the art (which was crap by the way). I heard they almost turned it into a grocery store, but were thwarted last minute by some lobbyists to make it a historical site. I think they should leave it the way it is and just revamp the sound and make it a concert venue. I mean c'mon, that's a legendary hockey arena. We should do something better than turn it into a Loblaws.
