This place is great. Good sandwiches & bagels, cheap coffee, nice people, quick service. No attitudes/blank stares that you will get at the other, larger delis in the area.
As another reivewer said, it seems like a lot of people are recognized and get 'the usual.' I dream of the day I can get the usual, unfortunately I am only an occasional customer so it may never be. They love you when you bring exact change. -

Ham, egg & cheese on a roll, ftw! Makes an awesome on-the-go snack.
Okay, some may call it a "meal", but I'd rather classify it as a snack. On-the-go snack, as a matter of fact.
I kinda went out of my way to stop by Mapi, and am glad I did! The line got pretty long once I was waiting for my order (and it was way past lunch hour). I got myself a ham, egg & cheese on a roll with iced tea. Should've treated myself to a chocolate chip cookie, but there's always next time.
TIP: take cash! There's an ATM machine outside, but save yourself the trouble (and avoid the long line) and take cash with you! -

Egg & Cheese on a roll with a chocolate chip cookie, nearly everyday. Welcome to my life. Mapi Cafe has all you need in life: cheap, orgasmic chocolate chip cookies which make you see the beauty in life - if they were any more amazing, they would be a hallucinogenic. Seriously though, really cheap, pretty good food, and the employees are great - they will get to know you after a while.
if only they took credit cards! Drives me insane. -

Nicest guys in NYC. Small takeout sandwich joint with good coffee & espresso. Great BLT sandwich. Love these guys.

I pass by Mapi ALL the time as I traverse the New School buildings but never really noticed it until last semester when I was stopped by an elderly woman sitting outside the storefront. "This is the best coffee you'll ever taste!" she hollered at me. I didn't know if she was drunk on caffeine or alcohol. She tried to trap me in a long-winded conversation about the weather, so I hastily said bye and rushed off to class.
Tired of paying $2 and $3 for my lattes and café au laits, I finally stopped in this morning. The little closet-sized shop was packed; I think the maximum capacity is 7 people. I ordered a café au lait--er, cafe ole as it is listed on Mapi's menus, and a croissant with cheese and ham. I wasn't that happy with the sandwich, but I LOVED the coffee. At $1.50, it's the cheapest au lait (or ole) in the area. -

So, I would agree that they probably serve an above average food for the price, but this place is far from deserving a 5 stars. You get what you're paying for: cheap food, ok quality. I had the ham&cheese croissant, which they microwaved, so the croissant was actually horribly soggy. The egg&cheese on a roll is tasteless. Also microwaved, tasted as yesterday's bread. The chocolate chip cookie seems to be the best thing there. It's ok, not the best thing I ever ate...

I get my coffee, salami & provolone sandwich, red bull, bagel with butter...etc. One should also note that bagels are much better here than the unnamed law school on the 12th st....
The same two guys will greet you and will soon remember what you order. -

Stand up dudes delivering cheap eats for those who are hungry and don't want to feel bad after spending money on overpriced sandwiches at other nearby spots. I support the Mapi.

This is a very, very small little place with friendly people that seem like they're the types that get to know you and your "usual" after just a few visits.
I had been going to Murray's Bagels which is around the corner and while they're bagels are good, they don't toast them! How could you open a bagelry and not invest in a toaster, I mean really! Maybe I could handle this in the warmer weather, but it's winter and I wanted a nice warm toasty bagel.
I had passed Mapi one day and noticed the sign outside that said they carried H&H bagels. I had never tasted an H&H bagel before but had heard good things. While it's not the most amazing NY bagel I've had (Ess-a-Bagel may forever hold the crown) it was pretty darn good. For such a teeny little place they even had a decent variety and it came TOASTED! :) -

Mapi gets the gold.
It's a hole in the wall, but so is my apartment. So I can relate.
Mr. Mapi and his lil buddy manuevering in such tight quarters and working in tandem to get me my coffee, empanada and Mapi sandwich is a magical experience. They slide, duck, reach, bend and contort like a pair of gymnasts not seen since the Soviets. But I highly doubt a Russian could do so well on the uneven bars while making such a delicious lunchtime feast. -

Mr. Mapi is the most amazing character ever.
I recently asked him what his name was, and turns out his name is Jimmy :)
And his helper is called Facundo.
I think they make the most amazing coffee (with milk and sugar). Its only 1$ and I can honestly say that they have one of the best choc chip cookie ive ever had!
Also, I'm hooked on the egg on a roll with ham and cheese... :| ~ ~ ~ *drool*
So, Mapi is super cheap, super good... its simply perfect. -

egg, ham and cheese on a croissant with some hot sauce & mayo is so good..
It's great place to grab the food on to go. The food is yummy, and the people who work there are very friendly. They always smile to you and provide great service. A great place to go if you are students in new school/parsons and people who are around union square. :) -

Oh Mapi. Or should I say Jimmy...and Facundo.
I really don't think you're gonna stop here for a food that everyone can't stop talking about unless you go to Parsons and have most of your classes in 2 W13th.
But I can't hate. Awesome BAKED empanadas and the mexican sandwich is deliciousness all in a pork/avocado/cheese bundle of heaven.
Oh Mapi... -

This place isn't bad at all. It is hard to find because it is so small. Finding it makes you feel like you are in on the best kept secret in town. Today I walked into Mapi and ordered a small coffee . The coffee wasn't expensive, reminded me of the kiosk coffee shop my college had. Tasted the same too, similar to Dunkin Donuts, which isn't amazing but gets the job done. There is no room to sit inside, so i walked around outside sipping my bargain coffee. Walked by a few people drinking their Mapi coffee, we exchanged silent nods like we were part of a secret society. Recommended for the on the go coffee drinker on a budget

They make a very good mozzarella sandwich. They're fast and friendly. They routinely remember what you like and make you feel like part of something.

MAPI is better than Disneyland. I'll tell you why. The lines are shorter (usually), service is faster, and the food is cheaper, but still of the same quality and freshness as you remember from mickey mouse & co. Plus, you are 3-times less likely to be touched inappropriately while waiting in line at Mapi. At lunch time get the Mexican Sandwich with Chicken (pork is good too!). Breakfast, any of the croissant and egg combinations. They also make custom drinks like half hot chocolate / half coffee. BRILLIANT. Thanks for making my life at parsons that much more incredible, mapi.

As a Parsons student, I find myself at Mapi an awful lot. Being a regular is nice...once when I was too broke for anything but a bagel, Jimmy threw in a cup of coffee on the house. The coffee and bagels are decent, not quite Murray's but also not as expensive. I love the goat cheese sandwich: goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, regular fresh tomatoes and fresh greens with a balsamic vinaigrette, $4.75 of yummy.

It's across the street from my school Parsons. Mapi has very friendly employees. They offer good coffee, breakfast and lunch with good prices. Quick to grab some grub and drink from that place.

this place is off the chain. The guys that work there are so nice and understanding if you're a little short on payment. Their sandwichs are so good and simple and a great price. i had my first toasted bagel with peanut butter and jelly here and now my life will never be the same

Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn, NY
As a graduate student at Parsons across the street, Mapi is a god-send. As a New Yorker, it's one of those "hole in the wall" places I'm always mentioning to my friends. I try and stop in every morning for my usual - egg and cheese on a croissant with some hot sauce. For such a small place, the variety of food is pretty impressive, and the taste is usually top-notch for the price. Just as important, the employees are friendly and you always feel like you are welcome, which can be evidenced by the people who lounge outside on the chairs in nicer weather, or the lines out the door in the winter. It's the kind of place you feel glad to be a patron of, and I highly recommend stopping in for a quick bite on the go!
