Manila Bay is a nice change to the string of chain restaurants on St. Albert Trail. It's tucked beside a Beijing Beijing buffet and Chuck E. Cheese.

The menu is pretty simple, but the prices are pretty expensive (around $12-$15). I guess it was fine because the portions were pretty good and everything was shared family-style.

We had the bistek(beefsteak), Kare-Kare, crispy pata, fried rice, and milkfish. The fried rice contained breakfast sausages and corn, which was pretty different, but I guess that's how they do! The food is pretty good, but a good portion of it was very salty. Especially the sauces for most of the dishes.

I think I'd come back one day. I do recommend to come here and at least try it out for yourself.

This is adjacent to and shares the same address as the Beijing Buffet Restaurant, but Manila Bay itself deserves a separate listing.

The food here is pretty good as far as Filipino food goes. I recently tried their Palabok and Fried Boneless Bangus (milk fish) and both are excellent. However, be forewarned that the prices are too high. Their "Kare-kare" which is what I wanted to order in the first place is too steep at almost $30!! That's more than the price of a decent steak! (hence why I only gave it 3 stars)

Obviously they are targetting Filipinos that miss the cuisine from the motherland, but people get real... You may also want to target people who have never tasted Filipino food before. Despite huge numbers of Filipinos in every corner of the world nowadays, Filipino cuisine is still greatly under-represented, as noted by celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain. These high prices are one of the great barriers to entry for any newbie to Filipino cuisine.

Shame, because Filipino food is really REALLY good!
