Review from Marie F.
Sadly there are not many places open for lunch on a Sunday afternoon in Barrie (that isn't fast food). Although Manhattan's doesn't have a patio, they do have a garage door back area with a great view of Kempenfelt Bay.
I ordered the Grilled Chicken Panini and the special of the day: Crab Corn Chowder. The soup was nice and creamy but didn't have much flavour *I should note that I am from the East coast and am kind of a chowder snob*
The Grilled Chicken Panini was essentially a grilled baguette... it didn't look like much but man was it ever tasty. If you like feta like I love feta, you'll LOVE this one! -

Let's drop our top. Go to a restaurant that seems a little bit pretentious. Eat gourmet type food and sit on the deck and watch the sunset.
Sounds romantic, unfortunately I was with a business associate. He picked me up at the hotel in his '69 Buick Skylark, top down. Fun, nice ride, definately NOT romantic.
Now for the restaurant. We went downtown Barrie to check out restaurants. We settled on this one. Front window open, back open to to Simco Lake. This didn't look like much from the outside except an old building converted into a new trendy restaurant. The inside didn't seem to be much better. When we walked in the front door, they asked if we had reservations. Since we didn't they gave us a choice of three tables at the bar. The waiter was also the bartender, Jeremy.
They gave us a menu and a copy of the specials, a choice of three course meal. Here's what I had:
First Course-Salad:
Summer Organic Salad - A confit of tomato, marinated cucumbers, sweet corn shoots, smoked bacon with vinaigtrette - Good, not the best. I don't like to eat a salad that looks like it was something I would rake from my backyard. - 3 Stars
Second Course-Main :
Prime Stripsirloin Steak - Pomme fries, grilled zucchini, and a horseradish demi - Outstanding - The best sirloin I have ever eaten! I asked for it medium well, it was closer to the higher side, but it was without a doubt the juiciest tastiest sirloin I have ever eaten. 5 Stars
Third Course - Dessert:
Brownie Supreme drizzled with chocolate sauce and fresh whipped topping on either side. - Very Warm and excellent taste - 4 Stars
Service:
Jeremy was pretty efficient and fairly fast in that he was also working the bar, this also being a martini bar. - 4.5 Stars
All in all this was an absolutely great meal. This just goes to show you that you can't judge a book by its cover(so cliche').... -
