    The Good:
    1. The Tuscany Pizza is awesome.  For some reason, when walnuts and gorgonzola come together on pizza they taste like meat.  Vegetarians rejoice!  The crust is thin but more chewy than crisp.
    2. Great appetizers.  Love the Mozzarella Sticks and Fried Zucchini - usually still crispy when they arrive (much appreciated).  The Spinach Salad is solid - great balsamic dressing.

    The Bad:
    1. Every time we try to build-our-own pizza, it gets messed up.
    2. Every time we order over the phone (rather than online), it gets messed up.
    3. They don't have everything on their menu.

The Truth: This is one of our top delivery choices for pizza.  But, we stick to the system - order online, no straying from their pre-set menu, and no tears if they call and say they're out of X, Y, or Z ...

Awful chicken caesar salad - tiny pieces of painfully dried out chicken, watery lettuce and tons of croutons...when I specifically asked for no croutons.

    Fail.

I ordered four cheese pies for delivery last night. The person I spoke to on the phone was very polite, the driver called to confirm the address and the pizzas came right on time. The driver was very friendly, too. I had asked for plates, forks and napkins, and they sent plenty of everything. On top of the solid service, the pizzas were really delicious! I would definitely go to Mangia again and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

I heard about the Mangia Brookline location because there was a Groupon or something similar earlier this year and it advertised their frozen tofu yogurt. I didn't get the deal but always wanted to check the place out.  I went there Friday night around 8:30pm to get some tofu yogurt.  The place was empty except for 2 guys who worked there.  The guy said he was out of the tofu yogurt so I asked him if he usually has it? And he said no, never.  So then I point to the menu posted on the wall that says tofu yogurt and he says they only have about 90% of items on their menu.  I also reminded him that their ONLINE MENU also says they have the tofu yogurt http://www.eatmangiapi...

It's one thing to be out of stock, but not carry an item EVER and still have it on both your wall and online menu?  That's messed up! I live 20 mins away and went there for nothing.  You broke my vegan heart.  Please update your menu Mangia or restock those 10% of items you are no longer carrying.  That was false advertising - I wasted my time and gas for nothing.

I gave it a shot..  Any time I go to new place I get a large cheese to try it out.  Any good pizza place has good cheese pizza.  Quick delivery. But (and I know some of you are going hate this) but I miss my NY PIZZA.

For thin crust pizza the crust was chewy.  The pizza was poorly seasoned meaning no seasoning at all.  I had to put salt, pepper and garlic on to get some taste.

Pizza is so simple (but very hard to make) so I am demanding.  Alas just not up to standards.

    Forgettable.

Today, my office ordered from Mangia for the first and LAST time.

The woman on the phone didn't understand me very well, the conversation was long and frustrating, but that has happened to me before, no biggie!

We ordered 2 pizza's, and I confirmed with the woman on the phone at least TWICE that we were getting 2 pizza's. THE GUY SHOWS UP WITH ONE FRIGGIN PIZZA!

My supervisor asks them to bring the other pizza back, because we can't feed an office of over 6 people with 1 small pizza.

He comes back with the pizza later, and no receipt this time, even though we asked specifically for a receipt the first time, because this is a business expense on a business card...whatever!

Now I am eating the pizza, and it sucks! Screw this place, I would have been much happier with a Papa Gino's pizza.

Mangia does a great job serving up a thin crust pie that uses quality, fresh ingredients. There are no greasy pools topping the pie because they use the cheese judiciously--it's all about the toppings and the tomato sauce. We had the Parma (whole basil leaves, salty slices of prosciutto, and just a smattering of cheese). The whole wheat crust was surprisingly good and served as a good base for all the toppings.

$16.95 for a large specialty pizza is a good deal considering the quality, but if you choose a plain pie ($11.95 for large) and add your own toppings ($1.50 each), it can be cheaper.

My only complaint is that the "foccacia fries" topped with EVOO, rosemary, and garlic were not worth $6-- despite being tasty, the skimpy portion size was not a great deal.

Overall, I think Mangia is cheaper than Upper Crust and thank goodness, they don't burn their crusts. I like that they offer free delivery too. There are a few tables for dining-in, but I think it's mostly a carry-out spot.

I ate here yesterday for the first time after going all the way to Brookline to find that Olecito next door was closed for the day.  What is a hungry girl to do?  My previous experiences were all takeout but positive so we decided to give it a try.

The place is small and really hot inside - at least to me - so much that if my boyfriend and I didn't live in Allston, I would have taken it to go (I tried convincing him too...that failed).  BUT I can overlook that because despite being small, they have a few cute dining tables and the place is kept really clean!  The staff is super friendly and will bring over your food.  We had the Pesto Bianco, which I've had before - it's a tad on the oily side from the pesto but still very good.  The toasted raviolis were covered in bread crumbs, seemingly fried just without the oiliness of actual fried food. Next time I'd like to try the Ma's Garden or The Tuscany.

I had a craving for pizza all week and Mangia satisfied this.

Often, when people talk about things like kicking back in a hammock between two palm trees on a white-sanded beach or catching a home-run ball at Fenway, they claim they've found what they call "a little slice of heaven".

Obviously, these people have never had a slice of Mangia's ricotta and Italian sausage pie. Or any of their pies, for that matter. Hell, in the interest of full disclosure, I'm cutting up a slice of their spinach and garlic pizza as I write this.

Mangia's got it all: a fantastic selecton of toppings, including more secondary cheeses than you can shake a sharp cheddar brick at; freshly sweet sauce that does justice to pretty much anything you can throw on top of it, and a thin, crispy crust that somehow manages to keep from becoming a soup in the middle of a large 'za. Sure, it's a little expensive, but you truly do get what you pay for.

OH! Just hit a bite of pure garlicky awesomeness. I'm gonna go tend to this, brb.

This was the worst pizza I've had in recent memory. We ordered two specialty pizzas and ate at the restaurant. The crust was burnt and crunchy throughout. The sauce on the margherita pizza was obviously directly out of a can. Perhaps Hunt's brand - that's my best guess. They threw entirely too much garlic barely minced, barely cooked into the sauce. The cheese was not fresh and they cooked the basil right in with the pizza - so it came out a wilted brownish color. We also ordered the shrimp specialty pizza. It had been overcooked so long that the cheese had those little craters that cheese gets after it's been bubbled and re-bubbled so many times. And for $16.95 a pie? Terrible.

I don't understand WHAT the other reviewers are saying. Maybe we came on an off night. Maybe the chef was off and his cousins were filling in for him. Maybe they had just run out of fresh ingredients and had to pull everything from the cupboard. I don't know what it was. But I do know that I'll never be going back.

People: for the same price, head down the street to Upper Crust in Coolidge Corner. Same price, FAR, far better pie.

I hate most pizza in the Boston area.  Let's face it... it generally falls between genuinely awful and inedible.  There are certainly a number of good places, but on the whole, it is that awful "Greek" variety that I just can not stand.  Crust like bread, sauce like ketchup with an assload of oregano and sugar, and the most awful, sad, greasy cheese you can find.  This is not that kind of pizza.  This is good, true, Neapolitan pizza.

The crust is thin and crisp, the sauce is fresh tasting and well seasoned, and the cheese is legit.  The toppings are plentiful, if you order them (I like sausage and ricotta or prosciutto and pineapple personally), and the large is a bit larger than most at 18"... it's also 3 bucks cheaper than Upper Crust ($11.95 vs $15.00, $1.50 vs $1.75 for toppings), and every bit as good, if not better.

Delivery is generally pretty quick, and the staff is friendly enough for a pizza joint.  I've never eaten there, and I've never picked up, so I can't say anything about the place itself.

My go to place, unless we're talking late night (anything after closing @ 10pm), and then it's good old Bravo's (delivering 'til 3am W-S) in Allston.

I am into their pizza. Very tasty stuff, especially for the Boston area, Land of the Subpar Pie. Mangia's version has a good crispy crust, the sauce has a lot of flavor and the perfect amount of cheese. This is, as someone below said, "grown-up pizza." No government cheese glop or "MeatZzzza feast" here. Bring it on.

I have yet to sample anything but their virtuous, if not virtuoso, pizza.

I have also never been sniffed. Maybe the reviewer had especially sweet pheromones. Mine aren't so outgoing. I'm kind of sad about this.

I have been going past Mangia for a few years and have been meaning to try it. So Friday night, when my sister & I saw they had frozen yogurt, I finally got the chance.

We ordered just 1 large pizza whole wheat - half spinach & feta, half plain - and my husband even double-checked with them and that's what they repeated. Definitely did not notice the whole wheat crust, which was tasty, but maybe that's because I was so distracted by the incorrect order!!

What did we get? 1/2 spinach, 1/2 plain with feta. Umm. Yeah, not what we ordered. Did it taste good? Yes, but it would have been better if it had been what we ordered. And there wasn't a ton of flavor - we all doused ours with garlic powder and crushed red pepper.

Also, when my husband went to pick it up, he got there a few minutes after the time they said it would be ready and he waited probably 10-15 minutes. He said he's never seen a more disorganized place

The frozen yogurts were right at least!

But the guy who answered the phone was so abrupt and THIS close to rude, the food was pretty pricey and not amazing. We won't be ordering from here again.

My one visit was good. Service was a bit indifferent, but not bad in any way. I was there in the middle of a slow afternoon.

The sandwich I ordered was gorgeous. I posted a picture on Yelp, because it looked so good on my plate. The bread was a bit crunchier than I would have liked.

Though I enjoyed the sandwich and it was served quickly, nothing about this place was good enough for me to go out of my way to go back. If I do go back, it will be to try the pizza.

This place was totally ghetto, but the pizza was mighty tasty. We got the regular cheese w/ half pineapple & half fried eggplant. We both personally preferred the pineapple. About $20 for the pizza & a 2 litter of diet coke... the pizza was great, thin crust and was even delicious when I had the leftovers today for lunch.
Also got ice cream, which was tasty... but they used this weird giant drill thing to mix up prepackaged ice cream and pulled out a funsize butterfinger bar to stick in it... kind of odd, and a little overpriced for what it was.
The place was a little odd and everyone behind the counter seemed clueless about what was going on... so I'll definitely be coming back, but will probably just get takeout next time.

I went in to grab a quick slice- because I seriously live right next door.  The guy ended up giving me an extra slice- so kudos to him.  The pizza is classic thin crust- nothing amazing but passing for a quick bite.
This nice man no longer works there (hence the two stars).  I think it is family owned and one of the sons manages this location.

Next time I went there I had a friend visiting and the pizza choices sounded fun and different. We were excited to try it.  We walk into the shop- door wide open and two guys behind the counter.  They started to yell at us saying they were closed- it was 9 pm, the door said they were open until 10.  I was taken back by their rudeness and just cowardly left the shop.

For a pizza shop that is hardly ever busy- (Ive seen 4 people max in there at a time) they should treat their patrons a little better.  I walk by this shop everytime I go to village pizza fare.

save your time and money with this place.

Mangia's pizza is the best in the village -- maybe second to "Brookline Spa".  It is adult pizza (kids prefer one of the other grease houses).

Mangia does not deliver (Spa does).
Mangia is open late (Spa closes early).

    It's a toss up.

No one tries to smell me when I pick up my pizza, at Mangia.

This place was terrible. We ordered online to try something new and they didn't do a single thing right.  First, the wait time when we placed the order said 30 mins.  After a half hour they called to say they didn't have any soups, and we had ordered a soup.  They tried to make us get a drink or something instead so they wouldn't have to refund us but we didn't want anything else.  After waiting for over an hour for the food to be delivered we called to make sure they hadn't forgotten us or gotten lost.  They said they were on the way.  About 15 minutes later they showed up and the food was terrible. We had both ordered sandwiches and they were not even worth eating. Just kind of disgusting and they didn't even look at the special options which they had added into the menu, like what type of bread or vegetables on the sandwiches we had ordered. Don't give this place your money. Not worth it at all.

I ordered a large pizza with chicken from this place with very specific instructions for them to call me when they arrived and not to ring the front door bell (because I live in a basement apartment unconnected to the house and didn't want to bother the owners).

It took an hour for my pizza to get to my address whereupon the driver rings the doorbell anyway annoying the homeowner and when I express my displeasure to the driver he mumbles something, hands me my pizza and walks away.

Unsurprisingly the pizza was pretty lukewarm by the time it got to me and I ordered a 2 liter of Coke and got Pepsi. Not a huge deal, but the cherry on top.

Also, pizza was pretty pricey compared to the quality and I ordered in the middle of the afternoon, one hour for delivery is unacceptable. Will not be ordering with them again. Al

I was pretty disappointed to go back to Lobellos which used to be here, only to find Mangia in its place...though I have since learned that they were actually there before lobellos.  Anyway, I went back for what I am confident was the best eggplant parm in Boston, only to encounter Mangia.  I gave it a shot and ordered the eggplant parm anyway.  I should have known when I saw the frozen cutlet go into the fry-alator, and the store bought sub bun.  Needless to say, it was a disgusting attempt..and I got a parking ticket because the guy was so slow.  Last time there for me.

another instant brookline fave!  small, quick, fresh + delicious - really, no complaints (the only thing that knocks off 1 star is that their menu only offers relatively standard fare).

i had the eggplant rollup, which was a delightful combo of breaded eggplant, small balls of fresh mozzarella, and roasted red peppers.  bf got the italian sub - which usually grosses me out - but their ratio of meat-to-all-other-stuffings is more my speed.  plus, they topped it with big chunks of roasted red pepper and oregano, not that weird peppery mush i've seen at other sub shops.

next will definitely be a pizza - i saw one come out of the oven while i was there and almost felt a tinge of buyer's remorse.  their signature - the tuscan - has gorgonzola and walnuts on it!  that's gotta be worth another visit.

We order from here at least once a week.... for the pasta. So for those of you who are pizza fans, willing to try something new, you have to try the pasta dishes. They also have this amazing frozen yogurt that you can get different mix-ins with. And, delivery is spot on. This past Saturday, we placed an order and received our food within 20 minutes. And the staff is always extraordinarily friendly when I order over the phone, or in person. Just a great all around neighborhood take-out spot.

... Update 7.2011: Unfortunately, that fabulous pasta I mentioned is no longer fabulous. We stick to pizza when we order from here.

Seems like some people really like this place, and some don't.  We're in the camp that uses Pizzeria Regina as the gold standard.  Mangia's basic cheese pizza and pepperoni pizza are quite good and do remind us of Upper Crust.  We've only had one of the specialty pizzas, the margherita  which also was quite good.

Mangia neopolitan pizza was among my better pics for pizza in Brookline so far...have not tried all places.  I stopped in late on a Saturday one hour before closing.  The pizza was fresh, crispy, well cooked, and not that greasy...service was fast but likely a result of the time I stopped in to order.  I would like to try their specialty pizza to see if it also maintains the same crispiness as the basic cheese.  The garlic bread with or without cheese is not for anyone saving on calories but would definitely recommend it!  They also have pasta, roll-ups, and various flavors of yogurt.
