A staff member at the Hampton Inn in Alpine recommended Mandos to us, and we weren't disappointed. I got fajita nachos, and they were delicious! Back in high school, Trudy's in Austin served their nachos piled high, as opposed to the current trend of placing individual nachos on a plate, and that's always been how I liked them. I was pleased that that's how Mandos served them! I would have appreciated knowing they would come covered in lettuce and tomatoes, but it was easy enough to pick that off. The chips and salsa were good, too, although the salsa was a bit on the sweet side. I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me. Waitstaff was friendly enough (turned out our waitress was from near Houston, too), but not outstanding. This was truly a local place, as everyone else in the restaurant seemed to know each other!

Mandos is nothing to seek out, but since everything else in Marfa appeared closed on Monday night (we were saving the fantastic Cochineal for a special birthday dinner later in the week) we gave it a try.  Friendly people, but very run down bordering on dirty.  One person in the front and one person in the kitchen makes for a very slow meal.  But don't go to Marfa if you want speed anywhere.  We had the super nachos and they were tasty, but mediocre.  Took us more than an hour to seat, order and pay out and the placed wasn't crowded.  The restaurant was populated with locals, including 8 border patrol agents eating dinner.   It wouldn't take much for this to have been a lot more local charm, than dingy local.

Ask a local if it's open and go over for a basic burger.

The red enchiladas on enchilada night are good.

It's a basic, no frills place - as the other reviews imply - but very good, standard bar food menu.  Nachos, enchiladas, burgers, etc.

As soon as we arrived in Marfa, my wife insisted on eating nachos, her favorite food. We asked the desk clerk at the Paisaon Hotel who had the best nachos in town and she instantly replied Mando's!

We headed straight there, and she was absolutely correct. The atmosphere is very similar to many of the small Tex-Mex places we have visited in the Dallas area, such as Herrara's, Ojeda's and Escondido's.

My wife ordered nachos with shredded chicken (not fajita chicken) and they were wonderful. I had a cheese enchilada dinner that included three delicious enchiladas with rather ordinary rice and very good beans. Prices were very reasonable -- the large order of nachos were only about $6 as I recall -- and the portions were large (we both took food home).

For me, though, the best parts were the complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and the salsa was thick and very hot, not watery and mild as we usually get at home in the Dallas area.

There were mostly locals in this restaurant on the western edge of town, all clustered around the big screen TV watching a game.

Service was very good with our drinks kept fresh throughout the meal.

I got to Marfa pretty late and asked the hotel workers' option for the best burger.  He pointed me to Mandos at the edge of town.

At night as with the rest of the town, its pretty hard to find.  Apparently, Mandos has been serving this W Texas area for decades.  There is nothing fancy about this place; no designer chairs or prints on the walls.  The waiters don't work at the foundation.  So, its not attitude; they're all business.  I helped myself to a booth and ordered their, double meat burger.  Those familiar with In n Out; its a double double.
A cold beer and fantastic burger; the chili added a nice boost to the flavors.

Its a family place, many of the locals eat here with friends / family.  The price is very affordable, but quality is still there.

We went after reading the 2 reviews on yelp.  Great atmosphere:  very laid back, with some 90's looking women in beer ads on the walls.  my boyfriend and i both got mexican, and it was not the best that I've had, but it was good. i had the carne asada, which was spicy and flavorful, and my boyfriend had a pulled chicken taco and 2 enchiladas.  i would say that the burgers seem to be the most popular thing here.  the atmosphere is great for people-watching, and their booths are comfortable for sipping a cold coke.

Pretty boring tex-mex.  It's open for lunch on Sundays - the only place we could find.  Tacos del Norte across the street is far more interesting and better prepared.
