Mamma Teresa Ristorante has a reputation that precedes itself. Featuring classic Italian Cuisine, this Ottawa Landmark has wined and dined everyone from political leaders, NHL hockey players and even Batman. I'm not kidding, Michael Keaton ate there this year! The owners and staff pride themselves on excellent customer service, high quality food and wine and a well rounded, fine dining experience.

I have been several times, and while there is a certain charm to the rustic Italian decor inside, I enjoy sitting on their patio during the summer the most. There is something just so classy about sitting in a nice outfit, drinking a nice wine out in the sun!

As this is an Italian restaurant, I often find myself drawn towards their pasta dishes. I adore their linguine with clams, and their linguine marcella is my favourite pasta dish in Ottawa. I also really enjoy their veal gorgonzola which has the perfect amount of the creamy cheese sauce to satisfy you with out overpowering your dish. To start, I am a huge fan of their antipasto casaligina, a hot and cold appetizer plate with delicious seafood and italian deli style meat.

You get fresh olives and peppers before you order, along with the standard bread. The wine menu is extensive, and the waiters are always ready to offer you recommendations.

While the pricing is on the steep side, it is the price you pay for the fine-dining experience. The occasional night out at Mamma Teresa is well worth the hefty bill.

After attending a wedding ceremony at City Hall, our group of 9 headed over to Mamma Teresa's for dinner. We were seated in the back room at a long table, with a person sitting at each end. Water, bread, olives, and peppers were served while we looked over the menu, and kept being served throughout our meal.

I ordered the Pasta Combination Plate, which came with lasagna, meat cannelloni with tomato sauce, and cheese tortellini with a creamy alfredo and capicollo ham sauce. Everything was fantastic! The pasta was cooked al dente and had just the right proportions of meat/cheese with plenty of sauce. The tortellini was my favorite - it was so good that even as I write this, I'm already craving it. I've hardly ever had Italian food as good as this, and on top of that, I was absolutely stuffed trying to finish their huge portions. I had barely enough room to just squeeze in a little chocolate tartufo for dessert. The prices are much higher, but we had great food and great service, and left completely satisfied. I'll definitely go back!

An Ottawa staple of Italian cuisine for almost forty years, Mamma Teresa's is a unique family restaurant located in a a beautiful two-story old red brick house, in the heart of downtown Ottawa.

However, the food, which is said to be inspired from Northern Italy, leaves much to be desired. Overly salty, and at times bland, you really expect more from a restaurant of this reputation. I believe over the years the quality has decreased, and some the matriach and namesake of the restaurant passed away about 5 years ago, the decline has been intensified.

While the service is pretty good when you go in large groups, they are less attentive when you go in as a couple or in threes, for the most part.

One dish that is still good is the Manicotti Gloria, which is filled with Ricotta cheese, with Tomato Sauce and Bechamel complementing it. .

It's unfortunate that this once great family restaurant has not lived up to its name, because its still a cool experience to eat here, if only because of the beautiful brick house.
