Doesn't get better than $10 tickets and no drink minimums! I like having the option of getting drinks without feeling like I have to, so kudos to you guys for doing that. Drink servers were fantastic and always checked our tables without being too pushy and forcing us to order more drinks. Nice venue.
I came here early with the bf after reading other reviews about seating and all that. So we got there around 6, went inside the bar and sat down at the table for some drinks and appetizers. Just note that you have to line up outside Tipsy Crow to get a table number. We made the mistake of going inside for drinks and food and didn't realize that we had to wait outside. Luckily it worked out and we got a table.
The show started relatively on time and ran a little later than 9:30, but no complaints... the show got better and comedians funnier as the time went on. Comedians were pretty cool, down to earth, stayed after to chit chat with patrons.
Jokes were not just about sex, actually I don't think they made too many sexual jokes that night, which is nice. Last time I went to a comedy club, it was just sexual jokes.
Good for date night! -

Bought the $10 tickets(standing only). Don't waste your time or money buying this ticket :/ The room is long and narrow and you end up standing up in the way back next to the noisy bar, and the staff, patrons and other comedians talking away and the music from upstairs..so hearing the show is a hit or miss.
Unfortunately, Mall Hall was a dud that night. When mentioning this to my friends a friend of his chimed up that he is funny but was lazy that night because this was his show he does every week? ( Hmmm a lazy comic= a lousy routine.) We were about to walk out the door when thankfully the other pre-comedians and headliner recovered the night.
No 2 drink minimum but if you really want to go watch a show here the $20 ticket purchase is required so I would rather go to American Comedy Co. and or the La Jolla Comedy Club and pay the $10 ticket and 2 drink minimum. -

I really love this show. I was going to it about six months after it started right when Mal was getting more famous and moving up to L.A. I first saw him doing stand up in La Jolla and I must say it was an awesome show. I'm very grateful he produces this show and brings in such talent every month. The Tipsy Crow is a great venue for the show. Be warned, you have to get there early to get good seats. I typically like sitting near the front row and dont mind (no in fact enjoy) the jabs from the comedians. I haven't been there in awhile, but will start going regularly again.

I've been to 4 Gaslamp Comedy Shows and have had a blast at all of them. Mal never ceases to give a great show. They actually have it in the Underground at The Tipsy Crow so its a nice, cozy little area. Get a few Salty Dogs and everything will be hysterical.

Always a great time! I've seen some really funny people here and Mal is always on point (and has THE best eyebrows ever)! It's a little small and cramped but I absolutely love the basement vibe.
Park in Horton Plaza for 3 hours free with validation. It's a couple of blocks away but worth it to avoid driving around and stressing out about parking! Many of the office buildings have after hours straight fees (I think the NBC building is $8). Also, I noticed a parking structure on 7th just south of Broadway on the west side of 7th and they were charging $5. I saw it on a week night so it's possible they raise the price on weekends but worth checking out if you're in a jam! -

Mal was great. My buddy and I went last night and I almost cried I was laughing so hard. Each person that came up was different and at the same time super funny. The headliner was beyond awesome. This buy could improv his ass off. He really made you a part of the show. I'll totally be back. If you're looking for laughs and a great time then you definitely want to hit this place up. Check it out!

Seriously the best night I have had in FOREVER.
The Tipsy Crow has such a good vibe to start and the comedy show was AMAZING.
Mal Hall is the perfect host!
Get there early so you can get a seat.
Food, Drinks, and Service was all amazing. -

I love me some standup comedy and I've checked out a few local venues but Mal Hall's Gaslamp comedy show is so far my favorite for several reasons:
1. Great location - you really feel like you're in an underground New York club except it's clean and intimate and there is no minimum drink requirement. Good menu of appetizers too!
2. The comedy is quality and raunchy and what standup really should be.
3. Makes me proud to support a local spot which supports comedians from all over the nation.
4. All the comedians hang out and you can meet and talk to them as well as take pics!
This place is perfect for a date night out, or if you're out with your group of friends. Maybe you're a creeper and hang out alone, who cares! Have a laugh. The best part is, you can go more than once b/c the comedians are always changing so it's not like you're going to see the same thing again.
Keep it up Mal Hall! Had a blast! Highly recommended! Can't wait to go again :) -

I've been going to this comedy show, as frequently as I can, for about 2yrs. now. All I can say is, I've ALWAYS HAD A GREAT TIME!! Let me explain the details as to why...as this show is One Truly Unique comedy event! Perfectly packed into a few hours out, for only $10 ticket, comedian and producer, Mal Hall, has done such an outstanding job of creating all-around totally fun comedy show experience! Mal Hall is not only smart and super funny, he's truly an artist!!
The venue is intimately nestled downstairs between red bricks at the Tipsy Crow on F&5th street in the Gaslamp district...From the moment you walk into the establishment you are greeted with smiles, and treated with first-class service. Way to Go, Tipsy Crow!! From there you are given a table number, or personally escorted by a hostess or doorman to your seat. The ambiance is comfortable and chic...from white clothed, candle-lit tables and sexy colored back lighting, to a DJ playing great tunes edited to an awesome slide show of hilarious clips and cool pictures!!
The show opens with an acoustic musician to warm up the audience. Dave Booda is often times the guy. Booda is soo talented! ...think Jason Mraz, Adam Levine, Darius Rucker. Dave's vibe is warm and fuzzy, and this guy's skills are definitely going places!! After that, the real comedy begins!! :))) Host, Mal Hall goes up!! LOL!..... Never a dull moment! and then at least 2 more comedians and the headliner. Most of the comedians come down from L.A., and ALL that I've seen are ALWAYS FUNNY! and are definitely up and coming comedians, if not already pro's on TV shows and/or touring the US. The line-up is diverse and constantly fresh. Mal knows ALL the good ones! Then, to add to the experience, Hall has a professional photographer on-site to capture Not Only the Act, but also the audience during the show! Michael Lawrence is usually the photographer, and I'm here to tell you, this man is incapable of taking a bad picture!! I've watched this show go from Great! to Extra Great!! because Mal has listened to his attendees and has made aesthetic refinements over the years... and Not One detail has gone overlooked! Mal has made sure you'll not only laugh, but ALL your senses will be deliciously stimulated!...
Well, I could go On, and On and On! but you need just go experience the fun for yourself. There's a lot to do and see in beautiful San Diego, but I feel this Comedy Show should be High-lighted on the Top Ten List of Things TO-DO in San Diego!!!...You know like next to go to the beach, eat a fish taco, go to the Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Balboa Park and Sea World, Birch Aquarium, visit Old Town, Coronado Island, etc, etc, etc ...YES! YESS! YESSS! Put this one on your TO-DO List ! Annd GO! GO! GO!!
** please note my parking tip too! Don't park at Horton Plaza...Secondly, I suggest Hey! maybe you'll have some parking karma! :D..I have many times--But If not :/
I suggest a big parking lot on F & 11th street..it's usually only $4 (-umm, deal-) and always has Many spots open. It's an easy, straight, brisk 6 block walk to the The Crow. What's also great is it's then super easy to access freeways and get out of the downtown area...BUT SHHH!...Don't tell Anyone! lol ;) -

The best comedy show in San Diego HANDS DOWN! The Gaslamp Comedy Show at The Tipsy Crow has a cool underground New York vibe-
Great comedians, strong drinks, pretty girls and it's not very expensive!
Perfect place to take a date or a group of friends for a one of a kind night out in San Diego. -

We got tickets online in advance and showed up at 7:10 PM. 7:10 PM is 20 minutes before the show was scheduled to start at 7:30pm. We stood in line until 8PM and by a miracle got a seat. The show started just after 8pm.
They need to move the show to a larger location. Tipsy crow is too small to handle the number of tickets sold. Move to a larger venue or sell less tickets. People who buy tickets in advance online should not be forced to stand in line for 50 minutes and then stand for the show.
The comedy is good but standing in line for 50 minutes when you buy tickets in advance isn't good.
We plan to try the new comedy club that opened on the third floor of Horton Plaza.
Checked the ticket system for Dec 16th. Still the same problem. The web site says that the $20 tickets will be held until 8pm which is 30 minutes after the show starts. The $10 tickets won't be let in until 8PM. So if you try the $10 ticket expect to get there before 7PM and try to talk your way in. Or be prepared to wait until 8PM standing in line and then stand for the show.
My suggestion is to eliminate the $10 ticket and sell $20 tickets equal to the number of seats. And tell people who buy the $10 ticket that you will probably not get in until 8PM and will have to stand.
If you want a seat you will probably have to pay the $20. -

Great little comedy club located in the lower level of Tipsy Crow. Place was packed and comedians were great. Nice to have something to do besides eat and drink downtown. Not that there is anything wrong with that of course : )

Update from my last review:
- Mal is now doing 2 shows a month. One on Friday and one Thursday.
- You want to show up about 6:45 if you want a decent place to sit. If not, you will be standing in the back.
- The Tipsy Crow serves decent drinks and appetizers, but it may be expensive to have dinner here.

Excellent show. They do clever things, like showing videos prior to the show and some videos show people wearing the signature
Laugh t shirts, and the background tunes are also high energy. A dance
group was the warm up act one night. This really got the crowd
rockin. Mal is a great story teller. His material is usually different
and he brings in a diverse line up of people. Most of them are from
LA and it's great to hear them rave about how much they love SD. -

Mal Hall ALWAYS host's an amazing show here... it's a little 'underground secret' and in one hand I LOVE that I know about it... and on the other hand, I want others to know about it too so they bring more shows per month... SUCH a great show!
Do yourself a favor and try to make it to a Thursday or Friday show... seriously it is so cheap compared to the other comedy clubs in SD and you actually get a better show at these... Mal always picks a great lineup! -

I've been going to the Gaslamp Comedy Show for the last two years! Every thing about this show makes for a perfect storm of comedy! Mal is an amazing host, The Tipsy Crow is a fantastic venue with an east cost feel, Friendly Bar staff and great food. Not to mention the incredible caliber of top comedians that the show attracts.
One of the things that makes this show great is the value for your money that you get. You walk in to a nice club, not some whole in the wall run down place. Big screen TV's, Nice tables, great music. Then the first half hour is a concert by one of the many local San Diego musicians. After that the laughter begins! Best show in San Diego....Hands down! -

Last July, Mal Hall put me up as a guest to do five minutes. The place was packed, the audience was amazing, the joint was classy, the other performers and the staff were top notch, and me and my friends had a great time.
For the audience: get there early as the place fills up fast, be ready to laugh your ass off, behave yourself and don't heckle :)
For performers: you MUST try to perform at this show. It is a great stage, great lighting, great place to get a video, there is a photographer that takes great photos, Mal is a great host, and they bring you up to music of your choice. It is difficult to not destroy, crush, kill, murder, etc.
Thanks to Mal for the time and I'll be back in July so I'll contact you soon about coming out to do some more time. -

We had a great night here! We saw a night of local comics, which kept things very energetic and quick-paced. The MC and headliner, Mal Hall, did a great job and was very fresh with his material. Enjoyed excellent food, drinks, and service, also.

Always a great night out! I've been along to a few of these and have laughed myself stupid. After the headliner at the last show, my face was hurting so much. I love the central location, although the venue is kind of small, so seating (or standing) can be a bit of a squeeze. Having said that, the comedy is first class, and I'll be going back again next time.

This review is for the fellas, no girls allowed.
Listen guys... there is no reason to be spending a lot of money on dates. Me personally, I don't really like going above a 20 spot for a night on the town, and I'm pretty creative. If you want a GREAT time, lots of laughs and a really cheap spot to bring a date, GO TO THE MAL'S SHOW. It's simple. You'll laugh, your date will laugh and everyone that goes to the show is attractive so it will be like being in a cool nightclub. Also as a bonus, if you meet and introduce yourself to Mal, he'll probably remember your name the next time you show up and you can feel cool when he says what's up to you before the show (your date will dig that).
Let's review... your options for taking women out downtown are:
Restaurant in the Gaslamp: $50 a person = $100
Result: Great food and forced conversation (true for waaaay too many couples out there), chances are bad the girl will call you back.
or
Gaslamp Comedy Show: $10 a person = 20 bones
Result: Girl laughs all night, thinks you're cool for finding such a fun place to go and she calls you for a second date.
5 stars. No brain-er.
The choice is yours!!! -

The Tipsy Crow is a great venue for stand up comedy and Mal Hall and the staff take full advantage of all it has to offer. I loved the intimate atmosphere. It put me in the mood I experienced when I first fell in love with performing. The crowd was with you the whole time and they were as smart as you needed them to be. The people were in the mood to have fun and the comics, myself included, provided the jokes. It was a blast of a time.

What a great hidden gem in the gaslamp. It seems like Mal Hall holds these twice a month and they are always great. Great entertainment in a great venue. The Tipsy Crow servers even do a magnificent job working through the crowd to provide food and drink orders. I highly recommend this

One hell of a funny show for just $10. Checked it out for the first time last night, and I'll definitely be back. Musical opener who played about 5 songs followed by four comedians who each did about 20 mins. Cool intimate venue with great sound. Nice servers and extensive beer list. Can't wait for the next one!

I haven't been to that many comedy shows, but been to this Gaslamp comedy show a few times. The show typically opens with musical guest/band (John Hull and his band are very talented and entertaining musicians). They have a couple different stand-up comedians each time... different style of comics and most of time super funny. The show flows very naturally and we always stay the whole time.
Best yet, it's only $10! You get great laughs and awesome music. Happy hour drinks for 5 bucks! -

I have been to several comedy shows in San Diego and after seeing Mal's show for the first time a few months ago I immediately thought it was the best comedy show in San Diego.
It is an intimate setting with great comics from all over. Most shows try too hard, and this show does not...it is a great show from start to finish each time I have gone.
Do yourself a favor and check it out! -

3 out of the 4 comedians were hilarious, and after the show the Tipsy Crow is a cool place to have some drinks. Make sure you buy tix online (only $10!) because this show seems to always sell out. Best comedy show in San Diego.

If you want to see an amazing, laugh till you cry comedy show in San Diego, this is the best place to go!! Mal Hall is my favorite comedian, and he always has the audience in stitches. He's one of those guys who is appealing to everyone, and doesn't really offend certain groups of people! Also, he's great at putting together a good line-up of headliners.
Definitely come early as the other reviews suggest, because this place fills up fast and the back of the room standing area is not so fun.
Another perk, they have shuffle board and other games upstairs to entertain you with before or after the show. Great beer and cocktail selection as well.
Just go already, it's so worth it for only $10! -
Review from Matt M.
San Diego, CA
Great comedy, intimate venue, cool staff + a large selection of reasonably-priced, craft beers on tap & in the bottle for your drinking enjoyment.
What more can you ask for?
Here's the rundown:
For $10/ticket, you get to catch a quick 15-20 minute musical set from a local artist, 2 - 4 comedians, and usually a bigger-name headliner to top the night off (Funny or Die, Last Comic Standing, Comedy Central, etc). There's a collection of appetizers, the beer selection is very good, the Tipsy Crow staff are friendly and always take good care of you, the venue is laid out nicely (all seats are good), and the show is well-produced.
Seriously, this is 2 hours of good comedy....you can't even catch a movie for this price anymore! Throw in dinner somewhere Downtown beforehand, and It makes for a great date night out!
There's 2 shows a month (2nd Friday & Last Thursday), but tickets go fast & shows usually sell out before the day of the show. Join Mal Hall on Facebook and you'll often get insider deals for tickets (2-for-1, half-off, etc..). -

I've been to this show a few times, and it never disappoints. The Tipsy Crow is a fun venue with great drinks, and really good comfort food. Its easy to find, and right in the middle of everything, so there is always something to do after if you're not ready to go home.
The whole show is seriously funny, my cheeks always hurt by the end. Mal puts together a killer line up, and you will not be disappointed!! Make sure to get there early, and buy your tickets online, because IT DOES sell out. Makes for a really fun night! -

Mal Hall had a great goup of 3 comedians that kept everyone laughing and having fun. The Tipsy Crow is a good scene for the comedy show. We even came early to try the special beers. We parked at the mall nearby and got the 3 hour validation. I went last night and I'm recommending it to all my co-workers today at work. Great date night!
