Review from Chris Y.
Major's Hill Park is a small, picturesque park in prime, downtown Ottawa. It is alongside the Rideau Canal locks, just across from Parliament Hill. Opposite, the American Embassy is across the street, and a block further puts you in popular Byward Market. Along the north side of the park, you'll get some scenic views of the Ottawa River and Quebec. To the south, there's the Fairmont Hotel and the Rideau Centre a block away. Lots of grass makes for some good picnicking, or maybe a little bit of Frisbee!
Also, you'll find a statue of Lieutenant-Colonel John By. Which makes me wonder why this is called "Major's Hill" ... oh well, it's a nice park anyway. Can't complain when it's free, right?Listed in: Canadia! - The Experience

Major Hills park is a very large open space with a walkway around the edge of the green space that is railed off due to an escarpment or hill.
My dog loves walking this park everyday and it's really beautiful during the summer and spring. We usually do a few laps around the path and the we run around on the grass for a bit.
At the rails there is a beautiful view of the river and parliament as well as a view of Gatineau that is top notch in Ottawa.
They use this park as a venue for events they have throughout the year and it's most busy during Canada Day fireworks. -

Location, location, location. Because it's in the heart of downtown Ottawa, near the water and all of the government and historical buildings.
There are numerous trees, pathways, benches, and drinking fountains, as well as public washrooms and even a lookout. A lot of people like to take strolls and have picnics, buy some food from the street vendors nearby, and enjoy the view. It's great for singles, couples, and families, and people of all ages.
The park is often used as a venue for many major events, including Winterlude, the Tulip Festival, and Canada Day celebrations. It's a prime location to watch the fireworks, and there is plenty of live music and entertainment all throughout the year, particularly in the summer. -

This is a gorgeous park in the heart of the city next to Parliament Hill. You have a great view of the Rideau Canal, the locks, Ottawa River, Gatineau, Chateau Laurier, National Art Gallery and the Parliament buildings. There are plenty of benches, trees, monuments and furry creatures running around. The grounds are so beautiful, it's not unusual to see people having their wedding photos taken here. At Christmas time, the NCC decorates the many trees in this area with pretty lights. The area gets a bit more sketchy at night, but I usually feel fine if I have a friend with me.
There are entrances to this park along the Photography Museum as well as the American Embassy. -

This might be my favourite park in Ottawa, and one of my favourite urban parks, period.
The setting is certainly beautiful: Overlooking Parliament Hill, nestled next to the stunning Rideau Canal, situated above the Ottawa River, and hugging historic landmarks such as the National Art Gallery, Photography Museum, Chateau Laurier, and of course, Parliament.
It does get busy here with tourists, particularly during summer and weekends, so it's not the quietest, most tranquil park. However, that is expected, and considering the location, it's really not even close to being overcrowded. If you can swing by during a work-week afternoon, I definitely recommend it. -

This is s spectacular location for a park. The location over looks both the Rideau Canal locks and the Ottawa River with wide views of the Hull sector and a profile view of the Parliament buildings.
The park is often busy but it's large enough that there is plenty of space to have a picnic, lay out and enjoy the sun or even throw a Frisbee or fly a kite.
Major's Hill is a hub for the annual Tulip Festival and you'll find awesome displays of colour long after the festival wraps up. It's the perfect place for amateur and professional photographers to set up camp for an afternoon photo shoot.
A lot of people cram into the park on Canada Day to watch the fireworks and this is one time I'd suggest you avoid the park. It's packed and there are other great places to watch the fireworks such as further down Sussex Drive near the Pearson building.
Also, the park can attract a different crowd in th evening so be cautious in the evening although there's not been any major incidents to my knowledge and there are a lot of people who pass through this park at all hours.
