Start here.  Consistently good.  Chef also owns Get Go Grocery (God bless her) and always has at least a couple or more vegetarian entrées on the menu.  Staff is comfortable.  On-the-whole, like it better than any place in town.  Steady flow of real locals (ranchers, artists, transplants) speaks to authenticity of the town and the spectrum and depth of its residents.  By comparison, Cochineal -- though with a solid kitchen -- feels self-concious (and, oddly out-of-place).

Excellent.  Best steak we've had almost anywhere and the pasta with vodka sauce was excellent.  Even the bread they serve when you sit down was excellent.  Oh, and the tomato and mozzerella was some of the best we've ever had (the secret is ripe tomatoes).

From what we could tell and what they advertise, everything is locally purchased or made on site, and  you could tell by the taste.  It's just that much better than most places you'll go.

The pricing was a bit steep.  For example, the six (or was it eight?) ounce filet was about $34, the pasta was $23, but there's not much in Marfa and the quality of the food was excellent, but still a little pricey for a town of 2100 people.  Not sure if they make their money off tourists, although I don't see Marfa as a destination, or locals - of which that would be an expensive meal on a regular basis - total bill with one drink (so it was mostly food) was $100.  One appetizer we spilt, two entrees, two desserts and one drink.

The desserts were amazing as well and you should save room for dessert.  One other thing we noticed.  As the night wore on, the restaurant got much busier (we at dinner at 7). and it sems like everyone knew everyone, so maybe it is a locals dinner joint.  Regardless, it was an excellent meal.

When a place has a dozen entrees and three of them are different lasagnas, logic says you should try one.  I had the lasagna bolognese and it was absolutely awesome.  Homemade pasta, wonderful meat sauce, incredible ricotta and perfect balance.  My wife had grilled salmon topped with pistachio butter and it too was perfection.  Service was wonderful, the room is nice, and the service was excellent.  Starters and desserts were wonderful too.  Go.

Cochineal prices without Cochineal food or Cochineal service.  The food was decent, but nothing to write home about.  Atmosphere wise, it could have been warm and inviting, but the very small bar area was filled with your typical Marfa wannabe try-too-hard hipsters.  Service was confusing.  Our waitress initially seemed extremely cold and annoyed--even heaved a sigh when asking whether we were finished with our appetizers.  WTF?  She seemed to warm up over the course of the meal, but that couldn't really make up for our initial negative impression.  A bottle of wine (one of the cheaper on the menu), two apps, two entrees, and a split dessert ran us $150 with tip.  We should have just gone back to Cochineal.

Also:  the website says that reservations are recommended.  I can't help but think that this is designed to make the restaurant appear more attractive, happening, and in demand than it is.  Sig O and I went on a Friday night, and the place was mostly empty.  Don't bother with a res.

This is a great restaurant:  Wonderful food, a lovely atmosphere, drinks that make you happy to be alive, and a wonderful staff.  Would head here direct when in Marfa again.

Maiya's had all of the pretension that Cochineal lacked, without the excellent meal that Cochineal offered. By the third night in Marfa, I was completely bored with the attitude of the transplanted artist's community. Keds with skinny jeans do not make you interesting, and the inability to utter a greeting or make eye contact does not make you mysterious. If you can't be interesting or mysterious, you should at least be able to put out great food.  The fig and goat cheese salad could have been good if the figs had been ripe, and the mashed potatoes served with our rare steak may have been good if they had been hot...warm even would have been fine. One final suggestion would be to consider actually employing a few people who are locals; the racial and class segregation is sigh inducing.

This was just like eating at a small restaurant here in SF.  The service, drinks, food, and atmosphere were awesome.  I liked the polish to the food and service paired with the friendly feel.  I would be here at least once a week if I lived in Marfa.

This place is a trendy little restaurant with really good food, very courteous staff and dandy bar drinks.  The entrée portions were really generous - not something I expected from this kinda place, and the appetizers and salads were well sized too.  It's fairly expensive, but was certainly worth it to us.
